Do NOT go here!! I have lived in the neighborhood for years and have always gone to Pure In Heart. Gloss Bar just opened a huge and beaut new space, and offers a huge selection of Korean gels that I wanted to try. The nail technician that I had removed the gel that I previously had on with a drill extremely aggressively which left my nails very thin and led to breakage. I take extremely good care of my nails and get my nails done every two weeks or so...so, I had very strong and thick nails previously. I went back to try to give them a second chance. I talked to the owner and let her know what happened. She offered me builder gel at the same price as a regular gel manicure, which was nice... But I left just as disappointed. The technician that I had this time was very nice... but, barely spent any time cleaning up my cuticles, and the paint job isn't great. The brush of the polish I had selected broke mid manicure. There are many areas around the edges of my nails that weren't painted, and I'm sure this will lead to chipping. The salon is beautiful but the services aren't quality. I definitely learned my lesson and will be sticking to Pure In Heart, where I have never had a bad experience and always leave satisfied and we're by all of the technicians offer high-quality services. The first time I went was last year and it was great. However, I came back during Lunar New Years this year and got paired with this woman who was on FaceTime with her family the whole time. I asked for her opinion on gel designs and she was rude and snappy at me. Even though I requested gel, she tried to get me to get dip powder a couple of times instead. I don't think the place is bad but I would avoid getting the same lady if I ever come back. She made me feel like I was a burden to her just by being there as a client, as if I intruded in her FaceTime time with her family or something. She offered no customer service at all (no drinks, no hand massage at the end -- this is from reading some of the replies here). I'm not sure why they paired me with her considering she didn't understand Lunar NY holiday (she was Indian) -- the theme I wanted my design to be for, when most of the staff were Vietnamese. Vi, who I requested, was off on the day I went so I went to Tyson instead. He's a super cool and friendly guy! My mani and pedi are great! I got gel polish, which I never usually get and wasn't too impressed but I'm going back in 2 weeks to get my usual SNS. Their gel selection is huge, this SNS selection isn't that big. Extremely dirty and dilapidated building, the nail technicians were rude, and as I speak the same language as them, I was able to infer what they were saying about me and the other guests in the establishment as the only person of color there they treated me unfairly by making me pay before the service was rendered. When I kindly inquired as to whether this was policy, they acted like they didn't understand what I meant, and I realized none of the other guests were required to do the same thing. I went to Gloss Bar on a Monday night when they were able to fit me in for a an appointment last minute. Two appointments ahead of me ended up canceling and they called and let me know I could come in earlier if I wanted to which I appreciated. There are plexiglass dividers between you and the manicurist for both the pedicure and manicure and it looks like they are only using every other nail station to keep guests 6+ feet apart. It was my first time at Gloss Bar and it's such a beautiful nail salon! When I arrived no one was visible in the salon so I walked in and said hello and a woman appeared and asked me to check in on the iPad and to wash my hands (but there were no other COVID procedures during check-in). I had a manicure/pedicure and ended up being the only person in there with the woman who had checked me in. The pedicure chairs are the nicest I've ever seen with A TON of massage options, which was a nice bonus. I choose the sports pedicure which included a callous treatment and said it came with a hot oil massage. The only reason I took one star off of this review is that there was no hot oil massage...however it really was a great pedicure that included a very nice, very long massage. It was definitely on the pricier end for a manicure/pedicure than I have paid in DC but the pedicure is still going almost a month later and the manicure lasted almost two weeks, so the service is worth it. I was really disappointed after reading otherwise positive reviews. I came in after getting builder gel a few weeks prior at another salon to 1) get that taken off and 2) get just a basic polish while I was there. My appointment was with DD and she took off the builder gel (and then some) with a drill bit and made my natural nails so thin they felt sore. After my appointment, the new polish was fine but my nails were so damaged that they all ripped off over the next few days. They weren't thick enough to break or chip, instead they would often bend backwards (which was extremely painful) until they eventually tore off. I will have to wait for completely new nail growth and have to keep my nails filed as short as possible to minimize the painful bending. Extremely upset about having my otherwise healthy nails ruined and hurting for easily two months. And I had to pay extra to get the builder gel off... read more

I had such a lovely experience. I was able to schedule an appointment over the phone same day (on a Saturday). The space is really nice and has a minimalistic vibe to it. When I arrived my temperature was taken and told to wash my hands. Their display of polish is very organized, and they have matching colors for most gel polishes. I forgot the name of the tech that serviced me, but he was great. He took his time but wasn't slow. He did both my pedicure and gel manicure, which came out nice. She approached the manicure with the same attention to detail. Checking with me on the design, the length desired, the shape of the nail, and looking over each nail for any imperfection. She did such a great job. Another note - Amy not once left my side. From the time I sat in the pedicure chair at 9:05AM she was attentive to my pedicure, checking that I wanted water, waited for me to wash my hands, turned on my massage chair, and did my manicure plus design without pausing. I left just after 11AM so I had her for two full hours. I much prefer that to being passed around to different service techs. I also loved that the salon had a diverse clientele. I could tell it was a place to be and the manicurists weren't gossiping or louding yelling at each other the whole time, just quietly focused on their clients. **UPDATE** The pics of my heels were the next day and I'm so disgusted by them bc I moisturize my feet every single day with very good body cream. I'm not even going to address the soles of my feet, but this is what happens when the person servicing you is consumed with servicing everyone else. I didn't get the fanciest ped, but $50 (including tip) should've more than covered crusty feet. That's literally why I went! I def feel cheated, and now I don't even have time to go before my trip. So I'll have to wear socks the whole time (who gets a pedicure to hide their feet?!), or do the work myself. I paid so I wouldn't have to spend time fixing it. I would've preferred to wait until someone was available to fully service me so I could feel like I was treating myself to a self-care day. I felt like an after thought in that chair. Everyone was working and I didn't have an appt, but it seemed everyone who came after me was in the same boat. I told them I wasn't in a rush. I typically do not leave reviews unless I'm really disappointed in a service and experience. Yesterday was my Birthday and I decided to visit a salon in my neighborhood as I've heard about it from my clients. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment and was told to wash my hands and pick a color. I requested a sports pedicure because I'm super active and felt it would be a great service. The description online for the sports pedicure is 'Classic Pedi plus callus removal treatment, warm oil massage, moisturizing foot cream & hot towels. Buff shine/Color finish.' During the service I asked about the warm oil massage. The young lady doing my pedicure didn't seem to understand what I was saying and went to the manager. The manager came over and told me the oil was mixed in with the foot cream and it gets hot when massaged on my skin. She went on to tell me that warm oil is apart of a different service which isn't true. How can warm oil be put in lotion that's sitting on a shelf. Theres nothing warm about that. I kindly said okay and left it alone. I got classic polish so I knew it would take a while to dry. I was okay waiting and I asked for a mimosa. I was told they did not have any mimosas today and was offered water. I sat and waited for 45 minutes for my toes to dry, I was then told my toes were dry and I was okay to leave. I asked if they were sure and they said yes, so mini zip lock bags were placed on my feet and I put my shoes on and left. When I got home 15 minutes later. My toes were smudged. I immediately called and told them what happened and asked if I could come back the next day to get them fixed. The women who I spoke too was the same woman who told me oil was mixed into the lotion, I recognized her voice. As I proceeded to confirm the time to come in the next day to get them fixed she was short with me, and before I could finish saying thank you and good bye she hung up. It was a very rude experience especially when I was pleasant and understanding. There was no reason for her to be rude to me like that. I came in the next day (today) to get the toenails repolished and they were immediately unpleasant. I asked for a mimosa since they didn't have any yesterday and it appeared to be an issue, I then asked to speak to the manager. I was told the managers name was Vi and she was not in and they weren't sure when she'd be back. Of course the staff know when the manager will be back. I found out the manager is indeed the woman who I spoke to on the phone last night that hung up on me and who also told me warm oil was mixed into the lotion. I would honestly like my money back. The experience I had on my Birthday was less than desirable and honestly unnecessary. I also didn't get my full service as warm oil was not provided and I paid $50 for this pedicure. If polish is messed up or a customer asks for clarification on a service it should not be taken out on the customer. read more

By far the BEST nail salon in DC. I've been going to Gloss Bar for manicures (gel and SNS) and pedicures since last fall (soon after they opened) and they've continued to exceed my expectations. It's truly top quality service, with a wide variety of service options, in an amazing environment, all for a fair price! They opened during COVID and it's clear that keeping things clean and safe for all their customers is their top priority. They go over and above with COVID protocols, from temperature checks, immediate hand washing, plexiglass dividers, and beyond. I've never been disappointed by any nail technician here, but luckily have had the pleasure to have Vivian the last couple visits and she is AMAZING and so genuinely sweet. I've been going here for months now, and refuse to go anywhere else! The SNS dip manicures last 3+ weeks, with a no chip guarantee (they keep track of when you got your manicure and will fix any chips for free within a 2 week timeframe I believe). My natural nails have never been so long and strong, and they do a great job with the pedicures, too. Cute and relaxing salon following very strict Covid guidelines, and the prices are very reasonable (and there's a discount for cash and Venmo payments). I really wanted to love this place. Prior to COIVD I did SNS manicures every 3-4 weeks at another nail salon. Gloss bar is close to my home, has wonderful ambiance, staff is great, and it feels safe. My problem is the quality of the SNS. I got my nails done on 12/31, and today 9 days later all but one nail as completely chipped off. Additionally, the nails prior to chipping off were quite unevenly sanded down and not sanded down enough so they were quite thick even with only two coats. In all my years of doing dip manicures I've never experienced something like this happening. I can't speak to other services but I would not recommend for SNS. read more

The service here is really gone down. I have been there countless times and never had an experience such as this. I was there today for a pedicure and the technician provided subpar service. The water was lukewarm when I put my feet in. She then attempted to use pedicure tools that were not sterilized or packaged. After I said something to her she then found and opened a fresh set. She didn't provide all of the services that were included in the pedicure. She didn't remove the dead skin with a pedicure file. When I asked about one of the included services that she didn't give she replied "we don't do it in the winter months". Other than the fresh polish I couldn't see any visible difference in my feet from the time I arrived. This was the worst pedicure I ever had in my life.
