I was really excited to try this salon because I had heard a lot of great things. However, I was very disappointed with my gel manicure. Not only were they out of 3 different colors I had selected (they had my fourth choice in stock), but the quality of the manicure was definitely not what I had expected. I've come here twice for an SNS manicure and both times left with something even better than I planned. Vivian is extremely talented and detail-oriented - today she fixed a small spot on my nail before I even noticed, something other places may let slide by. I've also had a pedicure and gotten my eyebrows waxed here - both experiences were great. They have fair prices for DC, and it's definitely worth it for the quality. My new go-to. read more

Absolutely love this nail salon. I followed Vi here from Enchanted in Adams Morgan, and this salon is even better! Quality service, full covid precautions, plenty of colors to choose from, and a wonderful atmosphere. The neighborhood is up-and-coming, so it might not look the nicest, but the block they are in is completely safe. I will only let Vi do my nails for now on! She is very talented and a pleasure to chat with. Highly recommend her. About the covid precautions - when you come to the door, they open it for you. You must wash your hands upon entry, cannot touch the nail polish bottles, there is a plexiglass screen between you and the technician, they do cashless payments and tips (including Venmo!), and on your way out they'll open the door and give you hand sanitizer. I don't know any other business that is this cautious and I feel completely safe there. read more

Wow! Best pedicure of my life. I got the Gloss Signature Pedi and it was SO luxurious. The massage felt like it went on for forever! They had serious safety precautions in place as well for COVID - limited capacity, plexi glass shields between you and your tech, temp checks and hand washing upon entering. I started going here when the salon first opened and the owner used to be more present and was super welcoming. Pros: clean; fast service (they do a dip polish faster than anywhere else I've been) Cons: other staff not the friendliest; not flexible with time. I probably won't return anymore because scheduling is not flexible. They've double booked me twice now, with no real flexibility in return if there was an error on their end. It sounds like it's an issue with their system, but you would think they could arrange something. If you're running 10 minutes late, it's an issue. They've called me a minute before my appointment time asking where I was-- I was pulling up to park and was really confused since I wasn't late. They've done that to me three times. The biggest reason I can't return here is because they insist on soaking your polish off in a bowl of pure acetone. I've never been anywhere that didn't wrap your fingers in foil. They ask you to rub the polish off yourself on paper towels. The smell is disgusting to breathe in and your skin is left dry and peeling after doing this for 20 minutes. Even after they put oil on you, your hands will remain dry and smelling throughout the day. I've requested for them to wrap my hands (they did this when they first opened), and they wouldn't. It just seems like a lazy way of removing polish, in my opinion. read more

Did not have the best experience here. Staff is very friendly which was nice. Some issues I had with my nail tech was that when she was filing my nails she filed my actual hand not the nail. I got a regular manicure and the polish turned out very clumpy and not smooth. As well the edges of my nails were rough from the filing. I found myself looking for an afternoon activity to do on Saturday and as I was running errands I stumbled upon Gloss Bar! Having moved to DC during the pandemic I haven't had much of a chance to find a new nail salon to frequent but I think I've found my new spot and I will never considering going anywhere else. The precautions the staff is taking during COVID-19 to ensure the health and safety of not only themselves but of their clients throughout your visit is impeccable. I did a walk-in and was seen within 15mins. I requested a SNS manicure and this is by far thee best SNS mani I have ever had. Vi was my nail tech and her attention to detail was great. Vi was sure to mention the two week guarantee they provide on their work and I was SOLD after that. Called around 6:45pm on a Saturday night to see about a pedicure for my friend and I, they said yes! Come to find out, they were already closed but had one customer they were finishing up and agreed to stay even later for us! Both ladies were so nice, didn't rush the pedicure to get us out of there asap. Pedicure was done really well, the massage chairs are best I've ever sat in, and the whole vibe was calm and peaceful. Super disappointed in my most recent experience with gloss bar. I went there maybe a week and a half ago and got French tip sns, not even a full day later 3 of my nails chipped. I go back the following day and they fix it, ok great. By the end of the week I had 4 more cracked/ chipped nails. At this point my real nails which I have been growing out for the last 6months, are a wreck. The sns which is supposed to be indestructible-- has torn several of my nails. I call this afternoon to get my nails fixed again for the second time in a week and I'm told to come at 6:15.... I arrive and they are packed, all the nail techs are helping customers and there were still 4 people in the salon waiting to get serviced.... I didn't have the patience and left. I wanted to love this place, in fact, I did love the experience while I was there but my manicure not even a week later is absolutely ruined. I got my nails done last Friday to go on a family vacation and then a wedding all within 2 weeks (plenty of time for a dip manicure to last) and within a few days I noticed the separation between the base coats of dip and then the aura layer of dip on top. I think there were too many layers on my nails and when they separated dirt got underneath the top layer (gross) and then the full color layer came off 2 of nails in one piece. It almost looked like I had fake press on nails on. If that wasn't enough, a few days into having my nails done the color completely changed from a vibrant orange/pink aura mix to a washed out color where the pink bled to the edges of my nails. Needless to say I probably won't be back. (FWIW, I saw the same nail design on a friend and asked what she got and she said builder gel and when I told the nail tech that she told me no and did dip instead. I have been coming to Gloss Bar since they opened in September and it is the only place I go to get my nails done. They are taking all the COVID precautions by taking your temperature when you walk in, contact tracing, making you wash your hands, staff and customers wearing mask, partitions between the customer and the nail technicians. I really appreciate all the measures they take to keep themselves and the customers safe. Now for the services.....Vivian is amazing. She is thorough and pays a lot of attention to detail. A brisk walk by and quick look down made me drop in to Gloss Bar. I tend to keep to my regular shop, however occasionally convenience is key. I was greeted quickly, the space is clean and inviting. I wasn't going to post- but inconsistent service and attitude of some of the staff merits this review. 1st two times- attentive and good powder dip manicure.3rd time- really rude and condescending when was inquiring about nail painting, & tech missed some cuticles, while one of the managers asked me to "hurry up" while other customers were taking their time. 4th and 5th time- pedicure was ok- but not so attentive. I won't be returning- while the dip was good, pedicures are ok and nothing special- my nails are so brittle now from the dip- in general. BEWARE this is a sketchy area!!!! There was a group of men yelling super vulgar things amongst themselves outside when I pulled up, I should have taken that red flag and drive off. I was having a a nice experience with my nail tech and was almost done. A walked past the window, stopped when he saw me, turned around, came into the salon, walked DIRECTLY TO ME within 4 feet of me and started to sexually harass me, saying how sexy my feet were??? It got to the point where I had to start screaming at him to leave me alone. There was a MALE nail tech in there who stood by and watched the whole time, what an entire disgrace. This psycho then began threatening to kill me and called me multiple slurs. I was yelling at him to back away from me and begging the workers in the salon to call the police. No one did. I actually had to call them myself and was crying and nearly unintelligible on the phone. NONE of the employees helped me as I waited, they actually returned to having conversations with other patrons and were laughing while I sat in there bawling my eyes out!! I was sexually harassed, berated, screamed at and threatened in this salon in front of all the employees and no one did anything to help me. I'm disgusted. I was so afraid and embarrassed, and no one protected me or offered to assist. But this is typical for a gentrifying business trying to profit within a community they're ignorant to and truly afraid of when it comes down to it. Stay far away from here. Tyson has taken care of me from the beginning, upon recommendation from a friend. My gel manicures last more than 2 weeks (I get them re-done because my nails outgrow the manicure!) and my pedicures last over a month. Everything is done professionally, efficiently and well. The SNS manicures truly last at least 3 weeks, and the gel manicures here also last longer than any other gel mani I've gotten. Great pedis and massage chairs. This salon is so beautiful! Tyson does my SNS and it's always impeccable, lasts at least 2-3 weeks, even grows out beautifully. They are extremely COVID safe, and the neighborhood is great for parking. The salon itself has beautiful big windows and a really lovely decor, they even have new holiday SNS dips! They are so professional and always deliver the best service at fair prices. I was able to head to Gloss Bar over the weekend and the space is immaculate - so clean and welcoming. V has been doing my nails for over 10 years! They are the cleanest, nicest, most professional salon I've ever been too. I followed her from Enchanted Nails. My friends started coming here and are still thanking me. They are TONS of colors....TONS! Cleanliness is above and beyond! 6ft distancing, temp checks, partitions for mani and pedi.
