The spa itself is fine. No frills. Clean. The rooms are quiet enough. The bathrooms are very clean. I booked a couples massage. I booked the appointment online and put down the necessary deposit. They were running a special for the month of January- 10% off during weekdays and it included aromatherapy. The 10% off did not automatically apply and I'm pretty sure I didn't get the discount. Parking- street parking if available. We lucked up and got a spot right in front of the spa. No paying a meter was required. My massage therapist was Mike and my husband's massage therapist was Kimberly. The couple's room was tight so I could feel, see and hear every time my husband's therapist talked to him or when she moved. My husband felt that Kimberly just couldn't get the pressure right even though she asked. He also felt like she took a break after every touch so there was awkwardly long waiting periods. He said her touch was often too soft even though he told her the pressure wasn't enough. She was pleasant; notwithstanding, she just wasn't the right therapist for him. Mike also asked me once about the pressure and at the time, it was okay. As the massage went on, it became uncomfortable. In all fairness, I should've spoken up. The elbow and forearm down the back and around the shoulders was the most painful. We got the massages on Monday morning and I'm still in pain on Wednesday. This is the first time I've asked for a male massage therapist and boy could I tell the difference. The pressure alone was intense. The best part was the scalp rub and the lavender scent (although there was something mid-massage that smelled like mildew). When asked what areas of focus before starting, I mentioned that I wanted my mid-back and arms focused on because I have carpal tunnel. Those areas weren't paid any special attention--they were simply apart of the regularly scheduled program - upper left, then upper right, then lower left, the lower right, then flip and repeat and end with scalp. This was the process for both my husband and I though he was flipped front a lot sooner than I was. Overall, I wouldn't mind returning if I'm in the area and trying another therapist.

We had such a pleasant encounter with the receptionist, Nicole, from the moment we walked in and were placed with 2 masseuses who were top-tier and gifted with the art of touch. Our couples massage was beyond rejuvenating and serene for each of us and we were truly able to decompress (and leave a lot of muscle knots behind on the table)! We both left feeling SO much lighter, connected within our bodies and to each other, and grateful we accepted the offer to give Unwind another chance. I am so impressed with the level of intention and care that the owner, Antonio, has displayed in making sure that we were in the absolute best hands the second time around. He was very apologetic that we had an off day on our first visit and really turned things a total 180. It's evident that he is passionate about his business, is extremely detail-oriented (the decor is GORGEOUS!), and has strived to exceed the 5-star reputation his establishment deserves. In a world where self-care tends to be an afterthought or a treat, I'm feeling inspired to carve out time to visit Unwind Wellness on a regular basis. I'm so glad I found the right match (and might have to gatekeep my masseuse's name because she is THAT good)!

Unfortunately, the quality of service has declined, and it now feels as though anyone regardless of training or skill level is allowed to provide massages. Today, I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment but wasn't seen until 15 minutes after my scheduled time. I ended up leaving the treatment room just 12 minutes into the session. The service was completely unskilled: rushed, inconsistent, lacking rhythm, and missing the foundational techniques that define a competent, professional massage therapist. A skilled therapist uses intentional pressure, consistent/proper flow, and an understanding of muscle anatomy to create a therapeutic and cohesive experience none of which were present. Realizing the session was doing more harm than good, I made the decision to end it and leave. The front desk staff clearly knew something had gone wrong, as my early departure was obviously due to dissatisfaction. Yet I was still charged $139. Not only is that unreasonable, but deeply unprofessional. When I called for clarification, I was met with a scripted cancellation-policy explanation given by the same employee who witnessed me ending the service early and leaving the studio upset. Only after pressing for details was I told I'd need to speak with a manager. The entire interaction was dismissive, confusing, and frankly, insulting. This visit brought frustration instead of the relaxation this business is supposed to offer. And for anyone who believes the service I received, particularly from Pam, is acceptable, I can assure you they have not experienced a true massage from a trained, skilled professional.

Listen, I can make this review absolutely ridiculous; and I intend to. However, I want to get down to the hot points: 1. Why is this the exact salon of my dreams? How yall do that? 2. Is it just me or do you feel love upon entry? 3. I know you ain't just lay a luxurious blanket upon my bodice while also sitting me in a massage chair. Laying special scrub and tea upon my scalp.. this is a sensory overload.. imma let you finish. 4. Why am I floating on cloud 9 after my hair wash? Do you need my money? 5. This salon is hitting on all cylinders and I'm overwhelmed with goodness. Please, don't stop serving me. 6. Now we in this braid down for the install and it's serious. Feels like a geometry class and someone is taking the AP course. Its getting technical. 7. Here we go with the major event.. The hair install and from the conversation, sour sop tea and overall authentic interaction; I'm feeling more cared for by the second. 8. Girl who made this tea and why aren't you selling this? 9. Consulting with me and asking pertinent questions gone make me fall in love... too late.. 10. Baby, you ain't have to cut my sew-in, tussle curl it and send me in my way like that. That was exceptional. Overall: I'm sitting on my couch, in my house, just 1 hr after leaving the salon. Bonnet on just how Ngina (my stylist) told me. There are so many things I can say. I already did above but to add good measure; this is an experience salon. A moment to give great pause and allow a fully staffed beauty team to treat you. The seamless care and consideration I got today made me feel elated to pay my bill. Do you need my money? I shall sleep and bask in these memories. I've already set my appointment for the end of the month. I'm missing you already.. Now, I know I didn't drop photos on you.. just know im serious about protecting my likeness. From the moment I walked in and was greeted by the women at the front desk, onward, every single employee who walked by or guided me from point A to point B was sooo kind. This is big for me: EVERYONE SPOKE. Anyone working here who crossed my line of vision SPOKE TO ME kindly and in a welcoming way. They do nails, hair, massages, all types of things - it's a wholeeee spa and the owner (obviously a Black woman and bosssssss) did her thing here. Now, as for my mani/pedi: also great. Haha. Naturally, like most of us, I put a tremendous amount of stress on my mind and body on a daily basis. I've been doing CrossFit for almost a year and a half (body) and between work and hobbies (mind), I'm one stressed puppy! I definitely need a massage from time to time to relieve the stress "mountain" that builds up inside me. My trip to SomaSpa was top notch, from start to finish. Before my arrival, I received both an e-mail and phone call reminding me of my appointment. With my busy schedule, these are must-haves...Prior to my appointment, I was rushing around doing errands. I got there with only a few minutes to spare. It was my first time at the location and I must have had the 'deer in headlights' look. The front desk person inquired as to the reason for my visit. She guessed that I was there for a massage. She handed me a robe, towel and asked if I wanted slippers to wear. She guided me to the men's locker room so that I didn't get lost and introduced me to my massage therapist, Jay. The locker room is very clean and appears to be constantly maintained. I put my clothes in the locker provided to me and donned the robe to head to a new blissed out state of mind. The massage room was impeccably clean and had indirect lighting (nice touch) and soothing music. I can't say enough about how thorough and amazing Jay is! We had a brief conversation regarding the reason for my visit and any outstanding areas that I'd like to focus on during the massage. He really listened and applied everything I told him to the massage. He worked on muscles that haven't been worked on in my other massages and that definitely were toting some stressballs in them. Apparently, my piriformis (my new word of the day) needed some work too and in addition to relaxing that muscle, he gave me some great stretch work to do on my own to keep it that way!! After leaving my temporary nirvana, Jay provided me with some soothing fruit flavored water to help purge the toxins. I left SomaSpa feeling rejuvenated and very relaxed!!

As soon as you walk in, you're struck by the clean modern interior. They have a very nice looking gym and pilates studio, although I have yet to try it out. Despite its presence at the front of Somafit, there is no sweaty gym like smell when you walk in. And it never feels crowded - key for a relaxing environment, I'd say. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming. They're also very flexible in appointment scheduling. Ruled by procrastination and last minute urges, more often that not, I will call or stop by day of and am able to get appointments same day. Once you've checked in, you're directed to the locker room - it has everything you might want - and upstairs to the spa. The spa is a warmer version of the same modern interior with dimmer lighting, comfortable seating and a variety of reading material. I haven't fully explored the spa's services, but I've been pleased with everything I've done - especially the massages. Here I must sing the praises of Nikia. She's great! I'm a full believer in deep tissue massage, and Nikia has magical hands. As any good masseuse she asked me before hand if there were any spots that she should focus on, and as she worked on me, she definitely spent a good deal of time releasing the tension in my shoulder, but also found a couple of other places that were holding a great deal of stress that were causing strain in my entire back. I left the massage relaxed and in a wonderful mellow mood. It's about enough to convince me to commit to regular massages. The one thing that keeps me from giving Somafit 5 stars is the prices... it's a bit pricey. But for me, the sheer convenience and flexibility balances out.
