I had a love affair with Thai massage when I lived in Boston, so I was excited to give it a try here. 5 stars for accommodating a last minute appt and for being accessible by metro. 2 stars for the ambiance (I didn't love the windowless basement vibe, but the mattress on the floor for the massage was unexpected). 2.5 stars for the massage itself. I actually wanted it to end and was glad I didn't do a 90 minute. I have a sensitive back that requires a particular type of masseuse so I think this one just didn't work for me. read more

I had a reservation for a 90-minute Thai massage and it was excellent!! This is my second experience with a Thai massage and I am starting to like it better than the traditional massages. In addition to the kneading, there is also a lot of stretching involved, which is what I need! Thaitastik is located in the basement of what appears to be an apartment building. The spaces appeared clean and the employees were very friendly. Just beware that, because of their location, parking might be a little difficult. This place is a hidden gem. I was dealing with temporary lower back pain. My chiropractor did an excellent job on my joints, but my muscles were still stiff. I stumbled upon this place, feeling skeptical, but decided to give it a try. Amp did an amazing job, working out the tight muscles in my lower back and targeting exactly what needed attention. After 90 minutes, I felt incredible. For those unfamiliar with Thai massages, they're more intense than typical massages. You'll feel a good kind of soreness afterward, and the long-term benefits will be noticeable the next day. I'm now a fan and will definitely be back. read more

Don't let the location fool you! It is in, or at least what appears to be, in an apartment complex, and is located in the basement. But when you walk in, it feels very inviting and relaxing! I went with my mom for Mother's Day and were greated by Gigi and another lovely woman who took some infomation prior to the massage. This was my first Thai massage and - WOW! They really focused on areas of your body that you specify and cater the experiece to you. My mom was a bit nervous but left relaxed, and Gigi was gentle with her massage! It is different than your "traditional" massages, but it's because a Thai massage stretches you out! So you're on a flat bed on the floor. My only complaint is that I was cold halfway through since the fan was turned on, but nothing off-putting. Now that it is a day later, I feel the post-massage soreness, but it makes me believe that they really focused on my problem areas. Definetly would recommend it! read more

If there was a way to downvote some of the rude previous reviews, I would. I'm sure spaces are limited in D.C. and the two massage therapists who are working are trying not to charge clients and arm and a leg for their sessions to pay the rent. The location is not that weird. Please get a grip. There's a door man in the main building. I originally booked 4 sessions while still in Texas. I received a response immediately and booking was easy. Directions, parking and their cancelation policy were all given at time of booking. A week later I arrived with a friend at the building. A doorman let us know what floor and told us to enjoy our massage because he always hears people say how fantastic the therapists are! We walk in and there's a man and woman waiting to take us back. The room was clean and set up for a Thai session on the floor. I wish I had thought to take a picture before the room got messy but I was just ready to be stretched. Bottom line. Book with confidence. I found a hidden gem in Thaitastick and Jenny. The setup is classic and straightforward, with a home-away-from-home vibe. The staff that I met were warm and welcoming. This massage with Jenny was my first massage in several months. I lift 5 to 6 days a week and typically need extensive deep work. I tweaked my back earlier that day doing bent-over rows. During my 90-minute session, Jenny gave a comprehensive where she conveyed her knowledge and expertise. The massage was profound and graceful. Today was my first time there and boy was it a real treat! My husband and I went for the combo massage in the same room (you can request this). This was our first Thai massages, so being open to all possibilities of the experience, there were no pre-judgements made. By this, I mean they are located on the basement level of a shared building. It was very cold in the hallway doing the short walk to Thaitastik. Once we got in, the ladies were very nice and welcoming...offering us water or tea and the temp and inviting scent was just right. Now on to the good part...everything is done on the floor and ladies you can leave your undies on (men too). I had Ice and my husband Jin. They were the bomb.com! They had our bodies doing all sorts of movements never done before. Legs bending everywhere, back cracking and muscles stretching. It was like a "good" pain. I'm not sure if you know what I mean, but this was OH SO GOOD! All I can suggest is to try them out and if you have never had one...you're in for great surprise. I have never traveled to Thailand to have an "authentic" Thai Massage, but if I had to imagine one...this was it! Ice used her body to stretch me out and to get deeper inside those muscles. This is an update for I've been twice since my original visit. Once with practitioner Apple, who was great! The last time was with Ice...whew! Ice was a bit rough... that kind of pain was not my pleasurable pain....it was just PAIN. I asked her to lighten up twice and it still ended up being rough probably because she was trying to get a tough knot out in my back... she would not let that little knot alone man! Like she had a personal vendetta against it! lol But even some of the stretching she did was a bit too far...again painful...I don't think she knew how to gage my body's reactions like the other ladies. And the draping...I was basically naked and exposed (top half) for the stretching, which I was not comfortable with. So why the 5-star rating? .... well, even this wasn't enough to sour my feelings for the place. I will still return again and again and again, but ideally schedule with Jin. read more

I live in Dupont Circle and have been craving a moderately priced massage parlor for those times when weeks of weight lifting and exercise have caught up to me and my back feels like it is in a million knots. Randomly, I stumbled upon this place online and was elated to find out it was located in the building next to mine. Reviews seemed great and perfect for what I needed so I went. The appointment process is kind of awkward (email or text) but they were able to squeeze me in for a same evening appointment. I reserved a 90 minute massage for $115 with Jenny. I have gotten a ton of standard sweedish and deep tissue massages in nice spas, but never a thai massage. The ladies who worked there were very friendly and the room was nice. I walked into the room expecting a table, but was surprised when I saw the floor set-up. They use their knees and bodies (to help stretch) as part of the process - so it makes sense. The ambiance and light music were great. Not a 5 star spa, but more than I expected from the basement of a condo building. The massage itself was fantastic. She seemed to be able to tell where I was tight and hurting rather than me have to constantly point, which made for a more relaxing experience. Overall - I would call the experience more theraputic than pampering - but that was exactly what I needed. There was use of some light lotions and oils and hot towels to wipe them off. I didn't walk away feeling greasy. At the end - she offered me some powdered ginger tea which I have never had before but thought was great. I will 100% be back on a regular basis. read more

I was in desperate need for a massage today and texted the Thaitastik number this morning. To my surprise, they immediately replied and were able to promptly schedule me for a massage in the afternoon (I know, can you believe that?!). The place is a bit hard to find - it's tucked in the basement of the Apolline building and it looks pretty inconspicuous. It is a pretty small facility and I wouldn't say it's the most upscale place I've been to but it serves its purpose. The room I was in was quite, clean, and they played relaxing Thai instrumental music. I had Amp as my masseuse and she was great. In two hours, she did a combination of Thai and Swedish massage (with plenty of stretching and oils). My body had been pretty sore from going to intense fitness classes every day for about two weeks. Amp was able to massage out all of my knots and stretch out my muscles. While the massage was slightly painful for me because of how bad my knots were (I have a low pain tolerance), I felt amazing afterwards. I will definitely be coming back. read more

This was the best massage I have had. It is definitely an experience. I booked sessions for myself and my girlfriend. We both feel like new people. Each muscle group was focused on in detail with kneading first and then stretching. Every place that had knots was given specific focus. I definitely feel sore, but in a good way. I will be returning for sure. Scheduling was pretty easy as well. I was a little confused by the online schedule, but I asked for available times by email and was able to get one that worked perfectly. Paying online for a gift certificate was also easy. The only minor issue was the person at the desk hadn't realized I had already included tip online, but she was fine once I explained I had. Great sports massage, excellent, isolated environment where you can chill out. Note that they do not do same-room couples massages (which, if you think about it, makes sense because you'd need a lot of room). My only critique is that the online scheduling system just isn't great--the therapists' availability is confusing and unclear. But they're responsive by text, and so I was able to schedule something on a Friday morning for 6:30pm the same day. My therapist was very attentive to my feedback, such as when I needed her to go deeper and push harder. Would go back. read more

At the risk of being hyperbolic: my massage with Amp today is the best I've ever had. I'm in town for work, and having tried other places in the area, saw the great reviews here and decided to give it a shot. Admittedly, I didn't even know what differentiated "Thai massage." I'm still not entirely sure, but my session with Amp was basically a combination of an incredible massage and a personal trainer stretch. I'm not sure how the soft-spoken, petite Amp was able to work the knots out of my back/shoulders - and wrap my 220 pound body into shapes I didn't know were possible - but whoa. She's incredible. And was literally on top of me using her knees (which I would have thought would be weird, but it totally wasn't). Easy to schedule (just text them), and no-frills, professional, amazing massage work. I can't wait to go back. read more

Screwed up our reservations! This place is a legit therapeutic massage place and not a place for happy endings, unless happiness to you involves feeling relaxed and de-stressed! I called to make reservations for 3 of us. Since there were only 2 Massage Therapists working, I understood one of us would have to wait. They were offering a special for a 90 minute massage, which discounted the price substantially. I reserved 2 spots for this discounted 90 minute massage, both at the same time. Then the 3rd massage (mine) would be 60 minutes. After confirming with the lady on the phone the appointment times and number of reservations, we waited in anticipation of being rejuvenated! Located in the Dupont Circle area of town, as we walked to this location, we noticed it was in what appeared to be an older looking apartment/business office building. After being buzzed into the main lobby, we were directed downstairs to the basement by an employee of the building. Once we got downstairs, it looked kind of seedy; long, dark hallway with a wash room near the elevators. The sound and heat of the dryer could be heard and felt and the 3 of us looked at each other wondering if we were in for a "surprise!" Once we reached the door to this business, it is marked with their business name. We entered and were greeted by one of the workers there in their teeny-tiny waiting room. I think they had 4 chairs stuffed in there, which was next to a water machine. After waiting for several minutes and a couple of people leaving, my 2 friends were greeted and taken in for their massages. Both MT were smaller in stature and Asian. Hmmmm, is this place legit? As I waited, I was bored. There was cell phone signal in there, so I was able to re-review this place on Yelp while I waited. After what seemed like hours, I see my friends come out, looking relieved. They both tell me it was everything they wanted and more! Hmmm, legit?! After being taken into the room for my own massage, I notice the place is actually an apartment, where the bedrooms were being used for massages. The mattress (or should I say futon) was on the floor and there were no massage tables like I anticipated. The room was cool and dark, with mood music playing in the background. Okay, good ambiance so far. When I made the reservation, the female on the line made it a point to stress that my shorts or pants will remain on the entire time, and my masseuse reiterated the same thing. I asked her if I can strip down to my speedo, which she agreed to, but "that has to stay on!" Okay! Not a bad massage, but I've had better. Maybe the anticipation of it all made it not as good as I thought? With their special deal that day, 60 minutes cost me $85, plus gratuity, so $100 total. Kind of pricey, but I guess for this area, that's the norm? All in all, not a bad deal and a great place for stress relief if you're ever in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. All the amazing reviews are true! Thaitastik is an unbelievable find and I had a great experience from start to finish. The booking system is easy, the business is clean, warm, and serene (don't be put off when you realize that it is in the bottom of an apartment building), the employees are sincere and remarkable, and the massage was unbelievable. My body is knotted and worn out from lots of exercise and Ana did an excellent job sorting me out. Plus the homemade ginger/honey tea after was a treat in this 8 degree weather. I hardly ever write yelp reviews, but this place has compelled me to. I've been getting Thai massages for over 8yrs now, and I've been to a wide range of places around the world (including in Thailand), thus I feel confident when I say that this place is The Truth. The uniqueness of their massages is that they incorporate more stretching of the body than most Thai places. Also, not once did I ever have to think about the pressure of the massage while it was going on- it was the right amount of pressure ('good hurt') that my muscles needed (some places will be too much or too little- or will be inconsistent throughout the massage, and you become fixated on that instead of relaxing into the massage itself). I definitely know how great a massage is when I don't want to get up afterwards, but want to continue lying on my back in a comatose state- basking in the serenity of my loosened up body (and mind). And this is what happened here. I loved this place so much that I bought the 5 1hr package deal immediately. 5/$385 is an amazing deal for DC. Even their ordinary price of $85/hr is also great. This first time I had Riya and she is amazing. I'm already excited about returning in a few weeks. Like a few reviewers have said, the physical place/setting is nothing to be desired, but this becomes a non issue once you have your massage. And the private rooms equate to any of the upscale places I've been to before- clean, soothing instrumental Thai music, etc. Also, just like others have said, the hot towels add an amazing touch to soothe the muscles at the beginning and end of the massage (I've not had this before). Lastly, you are not wearing the traditional draw string pants and oversized matching top like most Thai massage places. Here you are down to your underwear with the covering of a thin blanket- so just something to note- one cannot be shy. read more

Full disclosure: I am a sports massage therapist who owns a Sports Massage Clinic. I say that because I am more than likely more critical of most. I found the building easily and also lucked out getting a parking space very close. It is down a level in the basement but that is common in DC. I came in and filled out the intake form and clearly identified my problem areas. Mainly my right shoulder because I had previously torn my rotator cuff on a client and was still noticing trouble turning the steering wheel. I was asked if I wanted the blend or straight Thai and I chose the blend. This woman WORKED! She put a great deal of effort in my massage. At times the pressure was really strong but I knew if I could breathe through it, it would pay off. The blend was something that I liked. She definitely focused on my problem areas. The work she did on my forearms was great too. They ache pretty regular because of how much I work. Bottom line, when I left, I did not have the pain when I turned my steering wheel. That was quite impressive. The pain has also not returned! I do not get out to DC much but I will do this again! read more

Best Thai Massage outside of Thailand! I used to live in Honolulu, where there were quite a few Thai Massage Therapists, but none as good as this young lady! Amazing strength from such a small girl. I had the 90 minute Thai massage, but she also offers a combo massage that includes other modalities. I left completely relaxed and ready for a nap. This place is amazing!! The massages are top notch. Don't go here for spa frills - go here for a good, strong massage. I discovered this place (via yelp, of course) about a year ago. Since then, my mom, sister, and I have frequented this awesome place. It's in a little bit of an odd spot, the basement of an apartment building near dupont circle. You go into this suite in the basement, you fill out a quick form, and they take you back to a small room with a futon-like thing on the floor. They ask you to get changed into really big pants and a huge t shirt. And then they go to work! I initially started with the Swedish/Thai combo and worked my way up to the Thai, which is truly the best! The combo is just what it sounds like - some stretching, mostly a Swedish full body massage. The various massage therapists I've had are all very talented and well trained. So the combo is good, but the Thai is out of this world. They stretch you, lift up your limbs in funny ways, and give a crazy good massage. You may be sore later that day and the next day, but it is so worth it. They always go to town on those knots in my upper back!! And as a bonus, they give you deliciously sweet ginger tea after the massage. Also, the price is decent - $80 for an hour. You are paying for a high quality massage, not a fancy spa. Check it out! read more

Fantastic Thai /Swedish combo massage = Thaitastik! I travel the world, and can only get this amazing combo in DC. I may have to move here so that I can become a regular. That could happen. Owner is an incredible woman who came up with a unique idea, worked hard to make the business happen, and gives the most amazing massages. Everything to admire! As a regular massage client, I know that the work here is the best anywhere. My body knows it, too. I made an appointment by phone approximately one hour beforehand and they were very accommodating. My entire body was sore especially my neck and she did an amazing job on the shoulders neck and lower back. I've only had a Thai massage once before and now that I've tried this place I will definitely be back again. The massage therapists at Thaitastik are great. Pinn, in particular, is great. I don't live in DC, but every time i come to DC, I get a massage (or three) at Thaitastik. I was annoyed by the review of "Jane L" (who seems to be a fraud, given that she only has one review, a mean-spirited one-star review of Thaitastik). I don't understand why the wonderful masseuses at Thaitastik should be criticized for eating rice and drinking coffee (if that is true; I have never noticed any rice cookers or coffee makers anywhere in Thaitastik). I almost didn't want to write a review, because I wanted to keep this hidden gem to myself, but Thaitastik and their staff are so excellent I simply have to share. I started going to Thaitastik as a result of some serious vertigo issues. I saw Jin, who asked me questions about it and developed an approach that focused on my neck (under the theory that tension in this area was leading to dizziness). She is nothing short of amazing - she applies quite a lot of pressure, but not too much, and is very meticulous in her work. She takes the concerns and ailments of her clients very seriously, and does what she can to accommodate. I am sure this is the same of the other staff, but I have not received a massage from anyone else. The price tag on these services is completely worth it - much cheaper than those "luxury" places like Tulsi, but far more restorative and focused on your unique body problems! read more
