But by the time I walked over to Adams Morgan, I had discovered that the nail salon I used to go to from time to time had closed. While I was walking down the street to see if there were any other nail spots on the block still open, I stumbled upon Prada, opting for a foot massage instead. I walked down the stairs into a dark space and was quickly greeted. I opted for a 30 minute foot massage for $40. They ask that you pay first before taking you to a big comfy chair in the next room. The foot massage itself was pretty good but they smell in the space reminded me a bit of basement mildew and remained consistently top of mind while getting the massage. But the woman that did the massage was so nice! If you're looking for a quick and easy foot massage it will do the trick, but just don't expect spa-like esthetics.

In the next 15 mins while we made our way over on foot, I received a phone call and a couple of text messages asking if "we're here" and "how long will it take us". When we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly welcome. We asked for a 1-hr massage but were told no, only 45 mins. Then we realised they only had 45 mins to spare, which was fine. I wanted a Swedish massage, but was told no - only deep tissue. Massage itself was decent, until my masseuse had to leave the room abruptly in the middle of it, left half of my butt cheek in the open with the door unclosed. The treatment felt rushed, my arms and hands were not touched at all. This was probably a 3.5 rating but couldn't bring myself to round up.

I requested a 30-minute deep tissue massage, and it was absolutely divine. The space was spotless, and Tina worked through every pressure point with the perfect amount of pressure, checking in just enough to make sure I was comfortable. One thing I especially appreciated was that she didn't talk throughout the massage. That's one of my biggest pet peeves because it makes it hard to truly relax, and she struck the perfect balance of being attentive while also giving me the quiet and space to enjoy the experience. I left feeling completely relaxed and refreshed. I'll definitely be coming back and plan to become a regular! Thank you, Tina!

I rarely give bad reviews and am not picky. This is one of my worst experiences. We had a booking for massage for a couple for 7:00 pm on a Tuesday night. We arrived on time. No one was at the reception. The entire dimly lit unwelcome place was empty. All the doors to all the rooms were open. We were confused. After a while, a middle aged lady came out of a door by the entrance (we didn't see that door when we came in). She confirmed she knew about our booking. She asked us to wait for a little bit. Her English was poor but we tried to look at the bright side. There was no welcome. No water or tea. No music. Just a very dimly lit, sad, unwelcome, Soviet "living room". The lady disappeared into the room again without a word or any detail about why we had to wait. No news. We waited for 30 minutes. This was already a bad start to what was supposed to be a Valentine's Day gift (for me). It turned out there were two clients (or friends?) in that room. That room was set up for couple massage (with two tables). The two middle-aged ladies, both from mainland China, finished up and came out. They were chit chatting amongst themselves and talking about us. I felt very uncomfortable already but did not say anything. One lady then came to ask us what kind of room we preferred: singles or a double. Our booking was clearly for a couple massage. We reconfirmed we wanted a couple massage upon arriving. Clearly they do not speak English here. Meanwhile, the two female clients (a couple? friends? friends of the massage place?) took their sweet time packing up and dressing up. Finally they were out. After we indicated again we wanted to be together, the two ladies (apparently they only had 2 people working there) reluctantly went back to the room to clean up and get it ready for us. I am not sure they changed the sheets and towels. Finally it was our turn. After a long long wait. Were it not for the pre-paid groupon I would have left already. The two unpleasant, rough ladies once again talked amongst themselves just before the start of our massage: "Which one of us shall work on the girl and who works on the guy?" "Any difference?" Giggles. I understand Mandarin Chinese, but I did not hear or understand everything they said. From their accent I could tell they are from mainland China and uneducated. The massage was much too hard for me. Too much pressure. Painful. Not relaxing. I communicated in Mandarin and in English to no avail. She improved for a few minutes and then it was back to her old habit. She was probably a farmer? She pulled on my hair (when massaging my scalp). She messed up my hair big time. My hair was up in a horse tail. She pulled down half way my hair tie without even apologizing or showing any tenderness (she could have gently pulled down my hair tie and laid it by the side for example). It was me who had to discover the mess and let down my hair myself and put the hair tie on my wrist (all in the middle of the massage). Toward the end of the massage, she asked me to flip over to lie on my back. I reacted slowly because I didn't hear clearly what she said (broken English; followed by some kind of Mandarin Chinese). She laughed at me (to my face) talking to the other lady in the room, how I looked Chinese but did not speak Mandarin. I am NOT Chinese, but that's beside the point. How could they make rude comments either in clients' face or behind their back? We gave them each a 10% tip out of politeness. They snickered at us. What did they expect for the non-service? Such terrible terrible attitude. Come here at your own peril. Think twice.

This is a no muss no fuss type of place…read more I had an early morning weekday appointment so street parking was a non issue, but if you're coming at a peak time then you'll probably have to do side streets or something. When I checked in, there weren't any other patrons as far as I could tell. They sort of ushered me right into a room, which was kind of odd (usually there's some paperwork and you meet w the massage therapist to talk about what you want. They also didn't even ask for my name (I suppose if I was the only early morning appointment it doesn't really matter), but still kind of odd. The massage itself was great! When you look through the reviews, they are either overwhelming positive "omg there was so much pressure it was awesome" or negative "omg there was so much pressure it was awful." Spoiler alert: they use a ton of pressure. If you like that, you will like your massage. Jenny beat the crap out of my neck and shoulders. It hurt. A lot. But I'm used to it. And could probably stand an inch taller after the fact. Will definitely be back. Down a star for the oddness/the fact that I'm pretty sure my room was open an inch the whole time... and at some point my massage therapist had to leave to answer the phone. Weird.

However, my daughter is very picky (as am I) and I must say I have been very pleasantly surprised. Sit back/relax and enjoy the book I'm about to write. After spending 4 hrs at this place I do not understand the bad reviews. Like everything, there is some room for improvement, but honestly, at this point I'm just being extra picky so they could be truly flawless. Let's start with the drive/parking- in the DMV area this is the first question. I used my GPS and entered "the watergate hotel- had zero issues. They have valet service and the guys are super polite. Everyone keeps reminding you to get that validation for the discounted rate. $12 . Worth it. Old school doorman that actually opened doors and did the thing Sleek/modern interior design at hotel lobby- Concierge that gave clear directions and didn't seem like I was bothering him (you need to go to elevators and press B3 on the keypad BEFORE you get in the elevator). Polite/attentive/prompt receptionists at the Spa Minimalist but immaculate reception area The relaxing room chairs are so comfy I fell sleep! If they had issued me a blanket I would've been knocked out for the count! There is a cart w different types of tea/ infused water and snacks (they are nut based so if you have an allergy bring your own or ask) My services both included a glass of champagne at the end. I saw others with cold water bottles given to them. Either way, The entire area was immaculate clean. I was one of the first clients of the day but by the time my second service was coming it was almost standing room (that lasted a couple of mins only hence no stars were deducted). The relaxation room is unisex so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to that. I am not. I had two services with time to relax in between/before/after. My first was a facial with Anna. She came in on time- and explained ahead of time what was included and my options for additional services "if she thought I needed based on her evaluation" wow... I've had facials in many places/countries. She is THE BEST. I will be coming back and sending my husband. She is merciless tho. If you have never had a deep extraction, take an ibuprofen 20mins before and BREATHE... the pain is worth it. It's a mechanical extraction not manual. I may or may not have teared up. But my skin. Glass. FYI- I will be 50 in a couple of months and have never had procedures or Botox or any kind of fillers. Not against it. Just not my journey right now. After relaxing while sipping champagne I walked around and grabbed an apple at the gym. Went to the sauna/jacuzzi and pool. Then it was time for my massage. I had a signature massage and Yemi took great care of me. She explained what my service included (low to medium pressure) and what other services I could upgrade to (deep tissue/scalp treatment/foot scrub/hot stone/cbd oil) yup, I got them all. The thing to note: she used the stones all over my body and not just my back. The scalp treatment she recommends leaving it on for 24hrs before washing out so keep that in mind. Overall is a 10/10. Idk what experiences others had, but it certainly was not mine. Specially as I sit here sipping on champagne while writing this review because I couldn't wait for you guys to know! Insider tip: bring a bathing suit and your workout gear. Schedule your services in between using all the other amenities. Make a day of it. You won't regret it. Edited to add: if the spa had more ways to hang your stuff in your locker or a little shelf, that would be great. They also need trashcans INSIDE the toilet areas bc no female wants to walk out of the toilet with personal hygiene items in your hand. The trashcans outside the bathroom do need to be bigger too. If you're a curly hair girly. Bring your own diffuser as I didn't see any and I only saw one hairdryer so it might get complicated if it's busier. Small and easily fixable items for continued flawless service.

The pool area has a pool, hot tub, and sauna. Children are not allowed in the hot tub, but yet there were still many of them in there. There was a glass left next to the hot tub and everyone knows you never have glass on a pool deck. The locker rooms were hot and humid with absolutely no climate control. At least they had a swimsuit spinner for drying. The relaxation lounge is fine but the temperature makes it uncomfortable. There were no spa snacks. There are full curtain tracks for privacy, but the curtains between each lounger only go halfway down the track. The treatment room is nice. Linyi gave me an excellent massage but that doesn't make up for the whole experience, which is overall lacking.
