Great, small town joint with an eclectic decor and friendly staff! The catfish portions are LARGE so a 1/2 pound order (two filets) with two sides was a lot!! The fish was delicious - recommend ordering it "burnt" (per menu) to get it crisper and slather on the homemade tartar sauce (made daily)!! We got the green beans (delicious), bacon Cole slaw (also made daily), sliced tomatoes (if you country, you country), and pickled jalapeño (which will put a pep in your step, fo' sho'). This restaurant has the best catfish that is so fresh and flaky, cooked perfectly. We had coleslaw and pinto beans with green tomato relish as our side. I could eat just a bowl of the pinto beans with the green tomato relish. They are delicious but then I would miss out on the fish. So maybe the best case scenario is one person order the beans and the other person order an extra slice of fish to share with me and my beans. We got a pecan cobbler to share, and it was delicious. Very similar to pecan pie. It was loaded with pecans and cobbler crust and gooey deliciousness. We took home an apricot and peach cobbler. How many people have apricot cobbler? The peach cobbler went to my house, and it was delicious with a lot of cinnamon. Our waitress was very attentive. We noticed that there were many waitresses, and that people were being well taken care of by all the staff. I can't wait to go again. The only problem is that it's an hour drive from my house. The restaurant has a concrete floor so it can get a little loud in there. But everyone is friendly because you're in a small town. I love small town charm! read more

I'd heard about this place from some Oklahoma family members of mine, so when we decided to meet here for lunch, I made sure to give everything a try! This place was jam packed right from the minute they opened, and by the time we left, the entire lobby was full of people waiting for a table. You definitely want to avoid peak lunch hour here if you don't want to wait! Inside was very casual and the waitresses were all very friendly. This is the kind of place you come to with family for the good home cooked food. This isn't the place you go to for the gram...it's definitely a hole in the wall, you go to eat some delicious catfish. Even the sides were all excellent. Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong here. I'm guessing the ownership/management has changed. The fillets are thinner than they've always been. They still taste good but they are definitely thinner. The sides are very inconsistent now. The fries are often overcooked, dry and hollow. The garlic bacon slaw doesn't even taste of garlic and now it's got huge chunks of bacon instead of smaller pieces. Would you drive 68 miles, one way, for the best catfish and fixin's in North Texas? I would and did! Damn was that a great Southern meal! Huck's has been around for pert near a quarter of a century. They can fix up a mess of catfish like none other! It isn't just the catfish is hot, tender, flakey, crispy battered crust with that delightfully sweet catfish distinctive flavor, but the rest of what they offer is kinda somewhat better than my grandmas could do it! And those two Texas raised ladies could sling a mean cast iron skillet! I ordered the blackeyed peas and fried okra to go along with the filets plus a fresh side salad up front to make a bed for those 2 fried filets. I think I heard the lettuce cry out when I stuck my fork in as it was so fresh! The blackeyed peas were really good! For dessert, I had sweet, slightly tart, peach cobbler with a crust that put a tear in my eye 'cause it was so good! That's a must for me if on a menu. I do miss both grandmas' peach cobbler and this was a close 3rd place with the ice cream scooped on top. It's nice to hear a good ol' Texas accent from the staff and miss that livin' in Dallas. These folks even had the manners and friendliness to go along with the accents. And to add to it, that tremendous service made for a perfect meal! My kin folk would have approved of them! The price was good and well worth the taste and quality! Yes, and all was worth the drive! It is kinda off the road a bit and you might miss it due to the trees. DID YOU EVER EAT SOMETHING AND WISH YOU HADN'T?... well that's the way we felt after eating at Huck's. Huck's is one of those restaurants that is off the beaten path and you can't see it from the road. We were hoping it was one of those hidden gems that every town has. The service was attentive and friendly. The catfish was tender with a wonderful crispy batter. And, they served a unique tomato relish that I enjoyed but it just didn't seem to go with the meal. We shared the onion chips to start, and wished we hadn't. They were just the fried onions that you could buy from any food service company. These were served with two large containers of full fat ranch dressing. We were so hungry we ate the whole plate... but very shortly after regretted eating such a fat bomb and putting all those useless carbs in our bodies. The house salad was bland and tasteless. The hush puppies were again the hush puppies that you get from any food service company. Overall just average mediocre food. Anyone can get food service food, fry it up and serve it. read more

Went to hucks catfish on the third Of July. I either go on the first or third when I get my unemployment check. I went late and was suppose to wait but another couple let me set with them. I had the fried shrimp, salad, cole slaw. Also took home a 3 piece fish meal. Food was good as always. Crispy but not too much. The waitress was quick and friendly though they were busy. Love the mix of pictures on the wall, the stuffed animals and fish they've caught. I go there at least once each month. read more

We stopped by based on Yelp reviews and the did not disappoint. We were greeted promptly and everyone was friendly. The place was busy at 12:30 on a Tuesday but we were taken to our table, no wait. Food was so good we didn't have time for pics. Hubby and I split a full (4 filets) order with creamed spinach and black eyed peas. The fish was perfect to our liking, but they offer to cook it harder if you want it extra crispy. Hubby said the spinach was good and the peas tasted like my grandma made them. They give you extra hush puppies for free as well as tomato pickle relish. Tartar sauce was also homemade and really good. We took one filet home. Hubby could have eaten it and stuffed himself, but we wanted dessert. Pecan cobbler was sweet and nutty with a buttery bottom crust. Hubby said the tea tasted like his mom's. She's been gone for 17 years and that's the first time he's said that. We bought a gallon. Wish this place was in Austin bc we would visit once a week. read more

I used to love going to local, hole-in-the-wall Catfish joints when I lived in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma when I was a kid. Moving to the Sherman/Denison area has brought me back to those days as they are about 15 years behind the progression of Dallas suburbs. The good part of that is that options like Huck's exist here, whereas Dallas suburbia doesn't usually. Huck's is a great family place with a large menu, enthusiastic service and delicious food.
