Fried catfish, baked potato and fried okra.

We arrived at lunch time. Greeted at the door. It was very busy, yet we were seated right away. Our server got our drink order moments after being seated. We drove an hour to eat there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was very clean including the restroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our food was piping hot and served quickly. Everything was absolutely delicious.

Fried catfish was bland if consumed without drenching it in lime and tartar sauce and pickled relish. I didn't like their bacon garlic coleslaw but loved the creamed spinach. The staff was very attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very large and spacious and definitely accommodates a lot of customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Black eyed peas, extra crispy catfish, fried okra

Very good catfish! It's been about 20 years since I had catfish and this was like eating my childhood memories. Extra crispy is the way to go! The hush puppies were also so good! I didn't care for the black eyed peas... too soupy. However I could have eaten only fried okra and been happy! So good! If I lived in the area, I would frequent this establishment.

    Our to go box.

Our favorite catfish joint. We love it so much we drive 45 minutes to enjoy the good food and super friendly service. My husband ordered the 2 piece w salad and spinach. I ordered the 2 piece w shrimp w pinto beans and cole slaw. Delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was nice and cool inside since it was hot as fish grease outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Can't wait to visit again.

My favorite place to get catfish! This spot is really worth the drive. The catfish is so fresh and doesn't have that fishy taste whatsoever. I love their fries and other fried veggies (squash, okra) as well! The sweet tea is also on point. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is like stepping back in time lol, it's dated but fits the experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Be prepared to wait a bit if you come on the weekend but it's well worth it!

Came here on the recommendation of another restaurant, for a great burger. Really solid place. First they address food allergies in their menu. The cook shellfish in separate oil, making it easy to order. This time just had to have the catfish. The catfish was light and moist, not a hint of fishy flavor. The sides were good, although the fries were soggy. Service was super fast and friendly. The parking lot was busy, but the interior is larger than it looks Do yourself a favor try bucks

Will drive an hour to eat at Hucks! [[HIGHLIGHT]]No fancy tables or ambiance just the nicest staff delivering the best tasting Mississippi styled catfish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Extensive side options. I order my catfish extra crispy with a hint of Cajun and it's always perfection!

There is ample space between tables so you don't feel cramped. There are TVs on the walls but it does not feel like a typical sports bar. The vibe is upscale and the restaurant was very clean. We started with the homemade biscuits and they were excellent. The proceeds go to charity so placing this order was no-brainer. The biscuits were light and airy, not dense at all. The jam and butter were the perfect accompaniment. Those biscuits are winners! Everyone should order and help the charity. I had the spicy chicken and waffles and it was excellent. The chicken was indeed spicy but the honey helped cool me off. The chicken was tender, the waffle was light but could have been hotter. If you order this dish, you will need a glass or two of cold ice water! The wife had shakshura and loved it. She got some toast on the side for dipping. The grits on the bottom were perfectly cooked. Her only complaint was the egg was supposed to be runny and it was firm. The kid had sweet potato pancakes but ended up filling up on the biscuits. Overall, food was 5 star and really enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that our server, who was pleasant enough, was not very efficient. I am not sure what the problem was but her head was in the clouds. We would ask for something, she would say ok, and then she would disappear and forget to bring what we asked for. This happened more than once, more than twice, and maybe three times. It became a running joke at our table, what would the waitress forget this time? Other than spotty service, we liked this restaurant very much and we definitely would return if we are the Star District again.

From the moment you enter you transport to a feel good 'at home' atmosphere. The service was strong and attentive. And the food... delicious. We started with the fried okra appetizer and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Great flavor and texture. For lunch, I had the spicy chicken and waffles with a side of goat cheese grits and they did not disappoint. Strong showing - not my favorite local chicken and waffles but a strong entry into the conversation. The grits were cooked to perfection and very flavorful. My wife had the baked chicken dish and loved it. I had a bite of it and was very impressed. If you're heading to Frisco, highly recommend this restaurant for a brunch that will not disappoint.

I had been wanting to try this place for a long time, so I finally decided to celebrate my birthday…read morehere and I'm so glad I did! At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I had high hopes for this location because I absolutely love Radici, and everyone has been…read morerecommending Roots to me. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had. I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.
