Had dinner at Catfish Haven this evening and it did not disappoint at all. Took my son and my husband. I had a chicken fried steak. It tasted great. Good old fashioned chicken fried steak. The kind that is hard to find anymore. My husband and son had the fish. And they both enjoyed it. I think the thing I enjoyed the most was the broccoli, rice and cheese casserole. It was out of this world. The service was fantastic with everyone that worked there. They were all just a friendly and wonderful bunch of people. The restaurant had that nostalgic feeling. And everybody in there seemed to be enjoying themselves. Great place to eat! read more

Recently moved to the area, and had only found one sit down until we took a drive and about 6 minutes north of Whitesboro we found this gem. From the moment we walked in I knew it was going to be good. Our server chelsea was a great guide through the menu. One of us is allergic to shell fish and Catfish Haven cooks its fried veggies in separate oil and they cooked our dinner in that oil. Ate there tonight trying again. Disappointed again. The food does not appear to be homemade but institutional bought and just prepared. Jalapeño poppers are just like the ones I buy frozen from the store. Ranch dressing had no flavor. It was either a very bad brand or extra May added to it. They were served on top of a few French fries that were soggy. We ordered an extra side of hush puppies and they were almost black As were the ones that came with our meal. When we cut one open it was still gooey inside. The comment made to us is "we cook them like that to get the inside done." Shrimp was battered strangely -hard to tell what was the head or tail and had no flavor. Catfish was barely cooked on the verge of being raw. Fries were cold and soggy. Before tip this was $47 and so not worth it. Not trying again. We are done. read more

i'm not a big fan of this place at all, i'm really about the flavor of food but all it is is fried food with no seasoning or flavor at all, pretty good prices though, i personally wouldn't ever choose to eat here but if you like dry fried food this is your spot, very limited choice on the menu and not worth it at all, you'd be better off cooking at home, service is excellent only thing i will say about the inside is they fry everything in the lobby so the whole place smells like grease and fried cow shit, again the only thing that sets me off is the lack of flavor read more

Great service today, everything was clean in the restaurant and our food came out fresh and hot. The catfish is not the best I have ever had, but it was good for a quick lunch and was cooked just right. I come for the chicken spaghetti which is something that's hard to find anymore. So good! The majority of their food is fried...would love to see less fried options on the menu, like blackened or grilled catfish options. My husband got the seafood platter and the fried shrimp was tiny and looked like it was from a freezer bag. Not much flavor. The salad is very generic and could stand a good washing before storing in a nice cold fridge so it wouldn't be 'dry' limpy looking lettuce. They were out of blue cheese dressing as well. I don't even know where to begin! The owner is the most precious lady you will ever meet! She has owned and operated this restaurant for 43 years!! Let that sink in! Family favorite - every time we visit family up in Whitesboro, we have to go to Catfish Haven. Honestly, they should change their name to Catfish Heaven!! It's that good! We usually get the Catfish, Chicken Fried Steak and we always try to save room for their homemade pies. Love their Fried Green Tomatoes and Jalapeno Hush Puppies. Amazing atmosphere, prompt service and amazing food. I am not a catfish fan at all but i will eat this catfish again the tater sauce is the best i have ever had. But the best thing is the french fries I had cold ones on my plate but i asked for fresh hot ones and thats what i got they are home cut fries and none better but i am a french fries snob. Add salt and pepper is all they needed. The hush puppies were very good as well. The popcorn shrimp was not special but everything else was great. Super friendly waitress but unfortunately the food blows. I got the whole catfish with onions and cucumbers as my side and broccoli cheese casserole. The fish was completely over fried and the oil needs to be changed. Absolutely no flavor other than old grease. The onions and cucumbers which I thought would come as like a small salad were just onions and cucumbers. Bizarre. The broccoli casserole was fine, but the drink machine needs to have the CO2 changed out. The one place this place never misses is for cleanliness. This is has consistently been a spotless restaurant for many years. The outside stays maintained also. And once upon a time this was a pretty good catfish place. If the owner with the tall behive hairdo is in the place (she will be cooking), your food will likely be better. But this place is completely hit and miss. I went on Saturday 8/29 and most of the food was hot, except the hushpuppies were completely cold. This is pretty much a normal experience on a good day - one item off. A really bad day (the behive hair lady has never been onsite when this happens), you'll have cold catfish. A really bad experience, the grease will be old - though I didn't experience this on Saturday. I don't go here much because there is MUCH better available if you know the Grayson county area. They used to server whole fillets, but their 3 piece meal isn't even a full fillet. They are dicing a full fillet diagonally to make fish strips - you'll get about 75% of a full fillet. You'll pay 12.95 for this plate which has 2 hushpuppies & 2 sides (or 1 baked potato). You decide the value. An appetizer -like a stack of onion rings run 6.95. They serve battered onion rings and they are laden with grease. I order these way too often because I forget how greasy these are. The hushpuppies here are a bit greasy too but not nearly as noticeable when hot. They aren't fluffy and light, but they have pepper in them or something - they have a bit of a bite. What they do well is fries. They serve enough fries for 3 people on the plate. They generally serve these fresh - any thing else might be cold - but this year (in past years there were issues), I think the fish has always been hot too. They also server in super large glasses. I think they are 30 oz or more. You will not want for a refill because of a tiny glass. But this glass will cost well over $1 unless it has water in it. On my last visit, I noticed they have added some sort of service charge onto the bill. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it was $3 - it may have been $2. I can overlook a bit of stuff but right now this restaurant has as many people in it as it did before Covid - I don't understand this service charge. I'm not paying $20 for less than a single fillet of fish. The only reason I can recommend this is if it's convenient and you want a super clean restaurant. read more

Ordered the chicken dinner thought I was getting a half chicken dinner and was served mostly wings. If you are out of chicken pieces then you should inform the customer. If I wanted chicken wings I'd go to Buffalo Wild Wings. also after being charged for my meal and I paid with my credit card and they ran it. They inform me that there is a 3% fee for using credit card. They should inform you that there is a fee prior to running your card and for that reason I will not ever return here.
