This place is truly something special, from the gracious hospitality to the incredible menu. Every time I take someone new there, I tell them that there hasn't been one dish that I've ever thought "meh" about. Every dish is so flavorful and outstanding. The cornbread is almost like a melt in your mouth dessert, that I happily start every visit with. Every time we eat here, we leave thinking that we need to come here more often. We probably would if we lived closer. Definitely need to make a reservation. Each time we've visited, it has been packed. The menu at Roots has a variety of offerings, all with a twist/elevation on Southern soul food cuisine. There are some items that are constant on their menu and usually items that are created seasonally. Our waiter was helpful, pleasant and professional and the overall service was excellent. I ordered †he scallops with ravioli w/mushrooms and hubby order the redfish over rice. Both were delicious. The scallops and redfish were perfectly cooked. For dessert we ordered the Orange Juice Cake and the Berries and Lemonade sorbet. The OJ cake had a really good taste, but it is served floating in liquid...which makes the cake too wet. I think if there was less juice, it might keep some of it's flavor without making the cake so soggy. With that being said...there was no cake left. I made a reservation and was seated when I arrived. It was a Sunday evening and they had live music which was really good. It was a trumpet player playing r&b/soul music. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. My waiter was not as attentive when I first arrived but made it up by taking off a food item. Roots Southern Table was honestly amazing. I've been a huge fan of Top Chef, and Tiffany Derry has always been one of my favorites. So when I found out we were getting a chance to try one of her restaurants, I was all in. Didn't get to meet her this time (lol), but I've met a few top chefs while living in Vegas, so I'll take the win on the food alone. Keenan, our server, absolutely made the experience. Super knowledgeable, great energy, and honestly just told us what we should order and he nailed it. Every recommendation hit. We started with the cornbread, which is easily in my personal top 5. Then the duck fat fried chicken... I'm not even going to try to describe it properly, just order it. Trust me. The deviled eggs were another standout, and then the greens... I've lived in the South, and I can confidently say these were the best greens I've ever had. No contest. There were about 10 of us, so we got to try a bunch of different mains, and I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone. I had the short rib, and the depth of flavor was insane, simple dish, but it hit hard in all the right ways. Finished it off with the German chocolate cake, and that first bite straight up gave me a Ratatouille moment, took me right back to being a kid in 1984 eating my grandma's birthday cake. Just unreal. Tiffany Derry always has the best menu around! The food tonight was to die for. I got the scallops and my partner got the short ribs. Both were extremely flavorful! Additionally we had the carpaccio as well as the gumbo- well worth the decision to get it! We split a bottle of wine and polished the meal off with the best German chocolate cake. I love Tiffany on tv and was so excited at the chance to visit her restaurant and try her food, and it did not disappoint. We all enjoyed our dishes thoroughly. I had the char-grilled chicken and wow oh wow, it was so amazingly flavorful, and the harissa gave it the perfect touch of heat. I had never had fonio and it was moist and delicious. We didn't drink them the NA champagne flute smelled like soap and tasted like it too. The NA drinks also tasted like soap. Only downside to the experience was the drinks. A few things I noticed not on par with top chef. Paper menus-understandably since their menu was explained as seasonal. No placenta or change of utensils between appetizers and main course- out utensils placed dirty back on the table when our plates were taken. Fried rice was flavorful and my husbands favorite. I was looking at the mango pistachio salad but we went with the recommended persimmon "top chef moment" so good! Cornbread was delicious melted on my tongue and worth returning. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and offered to triple check for gluten free. She constantly checked back with us despite being very busy managing other tables. And the best part: two of our diners have Down syndrome. She treated them like everyone else, talking to them, clarifying information, and making sure they were enjoying themselves. All the staff were friendly, warm smiles, and genuine. Every single thing we ordered was a delight. The peas pod salad (sorry, it was inhaled before I remembered to take a picture). The cornbread and biscuits tasted as if they were from my Grandmother Mildred's Southern Georgia kitchen. The Texas Redfish and fried rice had so much flavor. This restaurant is very close to where my daughter plays volleyball so for me the location is amazing! It's also right next to a dart station if you'd rather not drive. Since it's so close to somewhere I go to twice a week, every week for 6 months out of the year I have been here twice so far. Once with a volleyball mom friend and once for an anniversary dinner with my husband. On both trips we ordered the fried chicken and corn bread, that's how good it is! On the anniversary visit the server was incredibly sweet and brought us complimentary Champaign and really was so attentive. Anytime I visit, I'm looking for dinner and a show. Not in a flashy way, but in the rhythm of the room. It feels like a ballet. Plates hit the pass and are immediately in motion. Servers move with purpose. The kitchen stays locked in. There's urgency without chaos. Watching the line work with that level of focus reminds me why I was drawn here in the first place. If you've never been, the duck fat fried chicken is a must. The crust is deeply crisp with seasoning that runs all the way through the meat. Rich, but not heavy. It comes with biscuits, and before I could even reach for one, both of my boys had already claimed theirs and were halfway through. That alone tells you something. The cornbread is non-negotiable. Sweet and savory at the same time. My son took a bite and said, "This is different than how you make it, but I still love it." That's exactly it. Familiar at its core, just elevated. Roots Southern Table has been on my list for years after enjoying the duck fat fried chicken in Austin. This location is advertised as a more high-end fare, with a more diverse menu and a selection of alcoholic beverages to enhance the experience. My partner decided book an experience through Capital One Venture X for our anniversary. We started with the fuyu persimmon carpaccio and it was very tasty! The pool of vinegar makes it quite tart, which might be too much for those who are not immense pickle fiends, but it was perfect for us. The cheese and candied nuts paired really nicely with the sweet persimmon. If I go back it'll be for this. The biscuits with butter and apple sauce are absolutely delightful. I am not a big biscuit person but I dreamt of them that night. Unfortunately, the namesake fried chicken was a huge let down. The crispy skin was a little too crunchy? It wasn't the delightful, decadent crunch I remembered. The best pieces were a bit too crunchy but some of the worse off pieces felt maybe 30 seconds from becoming a carbon coat. The meat, which I remembered to be succulent, was dry and quite flavorless. I found my salvation by putting generous heaps of that lovely apple sauce on my chicken. My partner asked for hot sauce but it wasn't spicy. And the spicier one was also not spicy. But the flavors were tart and peppery, and definitely balance out the richness of the chicken well for people who don't have the salt tolerance of a slug like me. The service was a little confusing. The staff seemed hospitable but also distracted, despite a slow evening, and we were forgotten a few times by the first few people who stopped by our table . But we were also regarded with warmth by one of the staff members and given extra apple sauce to take home upon request. When we got our check, we were surprised to see that whoever put the tip in had selected a high percentage without consulting us, which felt like insult to injury after being so let down by the chicken. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual. It can certainly be interpreted as a take on the cozy neighborhood diner. The music was pleasant but too loud - I think this was due to the lack of noise dampening and a lot of hard tile floor, counters and tables to bounce noise off of. We were lucky it wasn't too crowded. Overall, I think 3 stars for the food and 2 stars when accounting for rate of return for price. At Mike's Chicken or Hattie B's casual energy doesn't matter much. But when it's $56 for a chicken I do hope that more effort is put into ambiance, service, and food quality, three key parts of a dining experience. Also, just in case other cardholders were wondering - we didn't have any special perks for booking the experience - this is just to be transparent but I don't know whether it's Roots at fault for dropping the ball or Capital One for not conveying their promotion of the restaurant experience to Roots. read more

I enjoyed the food there was someone there playing live music, the service was good. They were pretty busy for a Sunday. The scallops had to be the best I've had in a long time. The lamb chops were pretty good overall I've definitely had a little better but overall, I love the place and I'll definitely be back . read more

Came back for dinner at Roots and it was just as delicious as the last time I was there! Had the Texas Two step and lamb chops. My husband got the Smooth Operator and it was so good. Service was friendly and very helpful! read more

First of all Tiffanie Darry from Masterchef owns the restaurant and she also has a Italian restaurant right around the corner. Shelby was our server and she was wonderful. She went over the menu and shared her personal favorites. Ambiance grown, urban and classy. Food was southern favorites with a twist. Just one heads up when you pay with a credit card there is a 3.5% fee but the food is so good who cares just bring cash to avoid the fee. Let me start with I'm missing our signature cocktails and King Red Fish with crab fried rice and the skillet cornbread, and deviled eggs. I' must say this place is truly amazing. From the time we entered the restaurant the hostess was very welcoming. Our waitress was phenomenal, very informative and attentive throughout our dinner experience. Now the ambiance, definitely a vibe, low lights smooth conversation setting . Food.....HANDS DOWN ' anything you pick you will not be disappointed. The chicken and dumplings were just on the menu for the night , special dish prepared by the chef. I'm so glad I ordered it .. not your regular chicken and dumplings the taste like no other just simply , MAGNIFICENT ! I love this place you will too, 15 out of 10 stars everything BUSSIN' you will not be disappointed ole my the fried chicken ... chef's Don't be like me and pray over your meal and start devouring and realize you didn't get photos ... that's when you know it was ' Excellent In taste.
