Watched my server wipe her nostrils with her fingertips, then itch her ear and INSPECT her fingernail for ear wax and NEVER WASHED HER HANDS!! During a pandemic make sure that you stop in by to get your dose of nasal drippings served along side your plate of food!!! While checking out, the person asked me how everything was so I calmly explained my concerns. She would not answer me or speak. I asked her if she would be offended if her physician wiped snot in their fingers and then examined her. She STILL WOULD NOT SPEAK TO ME! I finally asked her if she had anything to say and she repeated how much I owed and that I needed to pay my bill. She let me know that she was the owner and I can pay and leave. She finally said, "I will take care of it." But was extremely rude when I was calmly explaining my concerns. We stopped at this "restaurant" (if you want to call it that) to support local businesses. The last time I ate here (8 years ago) I was disappointed by the food but wanted to give them another chance. Well, we are done with this place!!! More info, Incase you care...the place is FILTHY. You are greeted with a lovely grease smell as you enter the little entrance area. There are petrified food splatters on the wall next to you in the booth. The tables have a lovely ceramic tile pattern with brownish black, food remnants in the "grout" between the tiles. Unfortunately, the restroom is just as revolting. The filthy walls, brown crusty door handle on the stall, and rusty hardware in the stall let's you know how they value hygiene. I looked up at the ceiling to notice the crust covered, fuzzy, disgusting vent blowing God-knows-what into the air. As I tried to wash my hands, I noticed the copper sink with the automatic water faucet...the only improvement in a few decades. I noticed the filthy areas around the soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser. Does anybody clean this place??! The dusty flower thing on the wall that has some twirly sticks glued to it....needs to be BURNED. The food sucks. My "garden salad" was fresh out of the bag with brown pieces of lettuce and little square croutons out of a bag. Lovely. The catfish is NOT a filet but half of a filet. Each piece of catfish is literally the size of your finger. Greasy, glistening popcorn shrimp, stringy chewy clam strips, and hand-cut mushy French fries accompanied my fish fingers. Save your money. (The catfish platter in Willis is a THOUSAND times better. )And the owner should learn a little manners. If my mentioning her employee's disgusting hygiene habits is THAT OFFENSIVE then maybe she should not be serving the public during a DEADLY PANDEMIC. Also, although I was wearing my mask, she was not wearing a mask the ENTIRE time that we were there. Even when I was 3 feet in front of her to pay. You know you're in Texas when a restaurant has to post a sign on its pie display table that the pies "aren't an all you eat buffet - please order from a server." Catfish Haven is known for their catfish (duh) and their pie. While I'm not a huge catfish fan I must say their cornmeal dredged version is pretty good. They really excel at all manner of fried food. My family polished off an ungodly amount of it, including: chicken (strangely they offer it two ways, deep fried and pan fried, the latter being far superior), pickles (oh so good), Texas toothpicks, okra, corn (yes, fried corn on the cob), steak, potatoes, pork loin, gizzards, liver...they would probably fry your iced tea if they could. I had "Memaw's Famous Fried Chicken" - half of a pan fried chicken with mashed potatoes and pickled beets as my sides. Texas toast, which is one of my very favorite guilty pleasures, comes with all entrees. At $8.95 it's quite a steal, definitely enough for two people. The chicken was right up there with some of the best I've had, anywhere. My only complaint was the cream gravy was a bit thick and bland. I much prefer a brown, giblet-y gravy. Most of the party ordered up the catfish. There's an all you can eat option for $9.95 but the menu cautions "all you can eat means per person, so please don't be polite and share it, God is watching." All the sides were great, I ate a lot of SSBB's green tomato relish and super long cooked green beans with hunks of ham. It would've been nice to wash down this feast with a Lone Star or Shiner Bock, unfortunately the Haven is in a dry county. Instead we washed all the salt and grease down with iced tea, sweet or plain, your choice. Their pie has received press in everything from the late, dearly missed Gourmet mag to NPR. I gotta say, though, mine was pretty awful. I had decided before leaving Oregon that for this four day weekend all bets were off as far as healthy eating went. That being said I ate chocolate meringue or chocolate cream pie EVERY day. Catfish Haven's was the worst by far. The "cream" on the pie wasn't cream at all, rather it was Cool Whip. And Cool Whip that had taken on a stale refrigerator taste at that. The crust was good, but woman cannot live on crust alone. The owner is a woman of a certain age who has the most fabulous beehive you've ever seen. You just know she's rocked that style since the '50s. I mean, that's before the Bumpit was invented! All in all, it's a great place to stop and pig out if you're in the Lake Texoma area. read more

I don't know why it's only 3 stars. Went into town but all the restaurants were closed. We past Catfish Haven on the way in and decided to go back to it. Yes it was a Monday and we got the three piece fried catfish with sides. The food was very good. The fish was fried perfectly and didn't have a old oil taste. Waitress was friendly and attentive even though the place started filling up after we were served. Yes the desserts are homemade and very tasty. read more

We go to Catfish Haven periodically and tonight was not good! We were a party of six. The fish tonight was RAW and the chicken fried steak was BURNT! The cook was off his game tonight. The dining room wasn't full and we didn't order anything too complicated. We were extremely disappointed with tonight's food. Sweet, new waitress and great tea! read more

Expected a catfish place to have good catfish. That expectation was wrong. Over cooked, chewy, tasteless and small catfish filets. The hush puppies had an odd vinegary taste. Good tea. We will definitely skip this place next trip out. Can get good tea anywhere. read more

Went there today for lunch. The food was absolute wonderful. There were seven in our party and each received something a little different with the exception of catfish. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The catfish was prepared perfectly, crispness on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The waitress was very efficient and friendly. We will definitely return. read more

Decor 4 stars Food 3 and a half stars Service 5 stars I may be biased on this place because I was starving when we went and didn't have any expectations. This place was such a wonderful surprise. It is literally surrounded by cow fields, out in the middle of nowhere. We went on a Saturday, late afternoon. There were several folks there even though there is no telling where they came from. The place is really cute, very nicely decorated. We both ordered catfish fillets, fried. What we got were actually catfish strips. My husband could tell that they had been frozen because they weren't as flaky as they would have been if they had never been frozen but they were cooked perfectly. They were really good and the service was exceptional. The green beans side dish was really good but the broccoli-cheese-rice side dish needed a little more seasoning. There is a pie bar in the middle of the room as soon as you walk in. There are so many great looking flavors but we didn't get to try one on our trip because the entree was huge and we didn't save room. Next time, I am ordering the pie first. We absolutely love this place. The catfish both fried and Cajun grilled are hits with our family. Hush puppies without a doubt are great. Fried okra, fried corn on the cob delicious! Green beans are just like eating my memaws. To top it off the pies are greatness, we buy them in whole. White fudge pecan can't be beat! I don't understand the other reviews, but this is one of the best little "hole in the wall" ever found. We are regulars at their down home family place. read more

Was just so-so. Nothing to write home about. Was a bit disappointed in the fried catfish filets. They were really just strips with too much breading. The hush puppies however were outstanding. What a disappointment - my 1st visit to catfish haven was in 2005 and between then and tonite I have made several visits there...all great until tonight. When we walked into restaurant at 8:20pm, stood at front door waiting to find out if we needed to seat ourselves or not, and not being greeted I knew it had changed. We finally asked "do we seat ourselves?" And they said "yes". We sat down, waited 5 minutes without being waited on and finally went up to counter and asked for menus. We ordered the catfish, which is what we always order, and it was horrible. So bland...tartar sauce tasted like straight sugar. Corn on cob was cold....will never be back. What a let down. read more

The portion size for mine was smaller then expected. I got the Cajun grilled catch with the cucumber and onion side. There was a little too much vinegar in that side as well, made it difficult to eat. The service was not as great as I would have liked. They seemed very under staffed, not the best for memorial weekend in my opinion. I may or may not try it again. read more

Hands down the best chocolate cake I ever had and I'm 48. My first experience with this cake was in Grande Prairie TX at this burger place called Chapps Burgers rt off 360 and Greene Oaks went their to get lunch for my crew that works across the street at Prime Diagnostic they had a slice sitting amongst the slices of pie so I said let me try it. I tried it after lunch, it went down so fast, I was like was that cake really that good? So the next week we went again and I said I'm going to get 2 slices this time and take it home so my wife can try it, and boom she did the same thing I did, was that cake really that good , so we talked about it and decided to see if I could get a whole chocolate cake, so I made a few calls talked to a lovely lady by the name D'anne which is the owner and she gave me the number to the guy that handles the cake and pie section which is Mark. Talked to Mark nice man very pleasant and set up a time I could go by Chapps and pick one up, he said he only delivers on Fridays, so I asked if this was the only cake they make, everything else is pies and he said yes the only cake, so I left my money with the manager of Chapps on Thursday and picked up my cake on Friday, got the cake home Friday night to my family, needless to say the cake was gone by Monday night, yes I know rt no more to say about that. I have never been to there restaurant or eaten any of there food but if its like that cake its got to be good. read more

We have been coming here for over 20 years. We usually come once a year while in this area. The catfish is really good and so is the tartar sauce, however the pies were terrible on this visit. The crusts were as hard as a rock. They are overworking their dough. Someone needs to exercise some quality control on those crusts. We had four different pies and every one of them had a crust that tastes like cardboard. We have had them in the past and they were never that tough. The fish chicken all fried stuff really good. Salad is fresh cold but all dressing is gross bring your own. Coleslaw is not traditional they make it really gross couple of weird items in it. This place is great -- we've been stopping here and coming here for years and years when coming up to our boat a Cedar Mills and now our lake house near Cedar Mills! No one mentioned the chicken -- my wife and kids love the fried chicken and the fries are great also. They now have an all you can eat fired and boiled shrimp feast on Saturdays that is excellent! i had cf steak - it was chewy & stringy - good flavor - liked the gravy - fried okra a be too greasy & not very warm - mash potatoes were on the cool side, but had a real butter taste - tea seemed some-what of a strange taste, could be the water - the food was a bit over priced; but that is way it is when you have no other business around - the restaurant was clean & neat - staff was very nice - yes, i would go back...but, will try the catfish or chicken next time...! read more
