Now for the important stuff...the FOOD!!! Blanco sangria 9/10: this was delicious. Great flavor and the apples were super crisp. Would order this again. Chicken and waffles 7/10: I didn't realize this came with eggs and it had an over easy egg on top when it came out. I had to send it back because I don't eat over easy eggs. I did ask for them scrambled and I didn't take a picture of those, but they were really good. They were cooked to perfection. I wasn't a fan of the waffle. It didn't have much flavor and was a little soggy to me. The chicken didn't have much flavor, was slightly overcooked and a little dry. The breading easily came off of the chicken which I didn't care for. Truffle tater tots 8/10: I love tater tots and these did not disappoint. Our standard Saturday crew went to Sugar Bacon in downtown McKinney tonight and it was fantastic! Our server, Carson, was kind, attentive, and did a great job walking us through the items we ordered to make sure we were good with everything included. Kudos to him! Now for the food... it was outstanding. Between us we ordered the tacos, chicken fried steak, and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Let's talk about the tacos first. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, topped with a tasty lime crema and delicious grilled veggies. The loaded fries were the side of choice with that dish and they were so good--crispy, flavorful, and the ranch was absolutely on point (which is very important, ha!). The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans was so good that there was literally nothing left on the plate. The steak was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the gravy was perfect. The green beans had just a little kick to them which made them fantastic. And the Nashville hot chicken sandwich... wow. It was HUGE (see pic below) and cooked perfectly. The ambiance of the place was also great. It has a welcoming vibe where you can come dressed up for a night out or keep it casual and still feel comfortable. The queso was good with what tasted like homemade chips. I wish there were more ingredients inside the queso. The BLT was good. The fries were nothing special. There is some parking around the back, but it does not look like there is a ton of it. Anyways, we sat down and ordered some drinks. This place is really chill. Within five minutes the manager came by, introduced himself, and gave us some recommendations. He spoke very highly of the short rib, so that is what we both ended up ordering. They were freaking amazing. The food came out fast, the service was great, and the presentation was excellent. When you have a kitchen putting out good food, a staff that is kind, and service that just flows, everything comes together perfectly. This place is a great example of how a restaurant should be run. They were even kind enough to give us desserts on the house, and of course they were fantastic. We had to pack them up to go, and I was literally rushing back to the hotel to get the ice cream in the freezer haha. If I am in the area again, I will definitely be coming back. read more

I really loved the Christmas decorations and cozy vibes here! The staff was really great in suggesting drinks and also taking the time to take pics of us in front of their tree. The drinks here are delicious. Every drink we had-which were variations of an old fashion were top notch and I highly recommend coming here for the drinks and comfy seats! I had high hopes for the food but wasn't impressed, which is why this is only 4 stars. Both the escargot and bacon fell short on expectations. They were good but not something I'd recommend. The flavors of yummy smoked meat throughout the restaurant got me hyped up so maybe we just need to try one of their main dishes. Nothing to write home about to be completely honest. Very underwhelming. I was very excited to try this restaurant after reading some of their reviews, but I was not at all impressed. I got the short rib... meat was a bit tough, and although the flavor was good, it lacked. My husband's steak was also just OK. Service was good, although I felt like the waitress kept trying to upsell us... maybe she was just trying to offer options, but it felt like upselling. The ambiance was nice, dim lighting, felt clean, warm. Overall, not bad food, can't say it completely sucked, bc it was good food but cooking, flavors, and quality are definitely not impressive. For their price point I expected more. I'm glad we didn't get the more expensive steaks! Definitely will not be back. We visited Sugarbacon on my husband's birthday. He and our daughter had gone a few months prior and had a great experience. This time wasn't as great as they had remembered. The server was nice and polite. The dining room was quiet since it was later in the night and the atmosphere is casual. The entrees weren't as good as we had hoped. The bone in ribeye came out overcooked and the filet came out undercooked. The sugarbacon appetizer was not what I expected. We attended a murder mystery event at Sugarbacon. The issues we had are equally attributed to the event planner and to Sugarbacon. The contact information for the event often shows Sugarbacon's number, but when you contact them, they tell you to contact the event planner, or don't respond at all. One of our calls, mades days before the event, involved changing three entree choices. Sugarbacon informed us it was not a problem as they usually make a few extras entrees in order to accommodate changes. This was not true at the time of the event when our entrees were not available and we were told there was nothing they could do. In addition, and ordered an expensive Old Fashion, which came so strong I could not drink it. When I asked if it could be diluted, I was actually told there was nothing they could do. Wow. There was no offer of taking it off my bill. I didn't touch the drink. The appetizers provided, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, and bacon (I think) were all deep fried and terrible. I couldn't even tell if the bacon appetizer actually was bacon. The salad was good, and the chicken entree was good though the chicken was set atop a large pile of mashed potatoes with no other vegetables. The murder mystery was too chaotic as about 100 attendees were crammed in the restaurant. There was not enough staff to properly deliver an orderly meal service for the attendees. The waitress was unable to hide her frustration once the event began and she was clearly overworked. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant or the murder mystery event. read more

We had a reservation and arrived early and although the restaurant was empty except for two tables it seemed to throw the 2 girls at the front desk. They took us to a small table in the middle of the room-made for 2 people. I didn't make a fuss because I was with other people but I hate sitting in the middle of a room and especially at a table made for 2 instead of 4-plenty of booths on both sides as well as larger tables in the same row. Our server took a long time to come greet us and then again to come back and take our order. The food was excellent and definitely had a small twist to some of them that made them special. We all made small changes to our choices and the server repeated them all and the kitchen made all of the changes for us without any problems. This restaurant is super cute and spacious. It wasn't packed on a Friday night which was surprising since it's located in downtown McKinney. Our server was excellent and very efficient. Our food was kind of a mixed bag. For example, my friend ordered one of the steak options and it came with just mashed potato (which he said wasn't good- and felt like it lacked a vegetable). Second example- my chicken sandwich was quite likely the best chicken sandwich I've ever had but the fries were really basic for being truffle fries. Appetizers: ménage a hog- delish Hushpuppies- delish Chicken sandwich- phenomenal Truffle fries- mid at best Scallops- 10/10 not a fan. It could have been a bad day. I didn't even try the scallop. My friend did and I actually just tried the risotto which was way too watery and lacking in flavor. While this place was good, they didn't really stick to the bacon theme throughout the menu. We had a party of 6 with reservations. Rude waitress, meh food (as in NO seasoning - salt and pepper); what food there was ... ordered 2 entrees that they were "out of" on a Saturday night. Yes, there was a wedding dinner in the big hall, but didn't you account for that when ordering your supplies? You KNOW it's hot in there (as in NO air conditioning ... AGAIN!) and yet you put lukewarm bottles of water with small glasses on the table, then act like it's a major inconvenience to supply the table with iced water. When the food finally came out, half of the entries were ice cold, and one was the totally wrong item. The manager, Matt, saved the day. My daughter ordered steak and eggs (no cheese), and I ordered the veggie omelet with fruits on the side. The steak had zero flavor, and the omelet as well. We tried Sugarbacon in downtown McKinney for a date night. In terms of the service, it was very responsive and patient with our first time there. We started with the Sugar Bacon appetizer which was a great blend of salty with a citrus blend. Very good. I tried the ribeye, which honestly was a seasoned correctly and cooked to temp, however the quality of steak left something to be desired. The marbling was minimal and was tough in the heel portion even when cooked med rare. I would definitely return and try other items on the menu. Location is convenient for walking in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by Sugarbacon for my first visit. (Catered Christmas party) I was impressed with the bar area (strong bourbon selection) , food and overall ambience. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp pasta and short rib. Staff was highly friendly and we had a great time as time flew by. They have dry aged steak which I hope to try on my next visit. Looked great on display btw. My second visit was for apps and drinks and Hank the bartender was very attentive throughout the night. Overall, Suganbacon is a solid restaurant with huge upside. We went here for a birthday celebration. Our son said he wanted a great steak and we knew this place's reputation. Our server, Tony, was truly amazing. He knew everything about everything and made great recommendations. The atmosphere was upscale but relaxed. We each had different main dishes and sides so there was a lot of food on the table. We are foodies of the first order. We have lived traveled and eaten around the world and are great cooks in our own right. Meal 1: salad with scallops. Terrific and the scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. Sweet potato hush puppies with jalapeño maple cream cheese dip were terrific. Meal 2 - regular rib eye with grilled Brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was all he expected and more. And the Brussels sprouts were fantastic. The serving was large and we all enjoyed them! Meal 3 - Confit chicken with risotto. This meal was a total miss. The chicken was tender but tasteless and the "risotto" was just rice. It was undercooked and not at all creamy. Taste was "meh." We brought it home to recook it! Meal 4 - short ribs, roasted carrots, creamed spinach. The short ribs were tender and delicious. They were not over seasoned letting the taste of the meat be the star and it was!! The white roasted carrots were bland and disappointing. They tasted just boiled. The creamed spinach was perfection: the right balance of spinach and Alfredo sauce. Drinks: the smoked Old Fashioned was "to die for." I had two. (I was not the designated driver) and wanted another! The birthday guy had one regular and one smoked. Smoked was the winner. The three tier cheesecake was divine! Portions were huge. We took home a lot of leftovers for another great meal.
