The night of the rehearsal dinner the staff helped unload the car. The food was absolutely delicious. All of our guests loved it and service was incredible from Andrea, Mondo and Joelle. Great experience at Union Bear Brewing Co. Customer service was on point. Our waitress checked on us just enough without smothering us. I'm not a fan of constant interruptions while eating, so that balance was appreciated. The place itself is awesome. Plenty of TVs, a great layout, outdoor patio, and a great bar area. Perfect hangout spot whether you're with family, friends, or just grabbing lunch solo. Prices are reasonable and competitive with similar spots. The downtown McKinney location is ideal and easy walking distance to other shops and restaurants, so no need to keep driving around. Food was great. The burger was juicy and flavorful even well done. The salmon was also well done with crispy edges and a slab of butter that melted right over it great flavor. Hoping that butter option is available for the steak because that's next on my list. Sides were solid too. Only thing I wasn't big on was the fries. They're super thin, so they were crispy but had a slightly hard, borderline stale texture. Just my opinion though. overall still a great experience. Definitely coming back. Burger and salmon were outstanding, customer service was great, and the atmosphere makes it a spot worth checking out with family or friends. read more

We made a reservation for our family of five and I am so glad we did - this place is busy! We waited in a short line to check in and were immediately seated once we checked in. Our booth was very comfortable and easily fit our family of five. The noise level is above average, but not for a sports bar/brewery. It was just right for us. We could talk, but didn't to worry about anyone being disturbed by our kids being a little louder than normal. The menu isn't big, so I suggest perusing before arriving, especially if you have dietary restrictions or are picky. Our family settled on + Korean Shrimp Tacos (no dairy). The kitchen was super careful not to include any dairy in my tacos. They were tasty, but I didn't realize the shrimp would be fried and the slaw would be removed to accomodate my no dairy request. I would pick something else next time. + Big Tavern Burger for my husband and he loved it! Even the fries were a hit. + Big Tavern Burger with cheese and grilled onions only for one of the kids. + Plain hamburger and a single meat patty for our other two kiddos. + Hubby and I both got unsweet iced teas and the tea was brewed just right. Our waitress was wonderful, I hate that I forgot her name. She was friendly and kept our waters and iced tea full the whole time. We have absolutely no complaints! We came on a whim on a Saturday and I forgot to take pictures because we were enjoying it so much. First of all, sit on the heated patio. It's Texas in the winter, you will be fine. But in all seriousness it is enclosed and the heaters keep you comfy. Second, the chicken fingers are the most juicy chicken fingers that you'll ever have. Also what place these days gives you the superior dipping sauces that you have to have and need when enjoying a dish of this caliber! Also, the Brussels sprouts slaw was so good our 10 month old devoured it with the chicken fingers. The Caesar salad was needy level. Again, if a place gives you fresh cracked pepper on your Caesar, you must return. It is law. This salad was amazing, and the Parmesan was even flavorful. Who says that? We also got the strawberry paper plan, don't get if you want something sweet. But if you're a real one who likes a Savory drink, DO IT!! We will be back! read more

I met up with a friend for some green beer and shenanigans on St. Patrick's day, Grace and Emma were our servers both were "amazing like Grace!" To start of course Green Beer, it was refreshing nothing to over the top like an IPA. Starter we shared the sweet and spicy shrimp-Tempura battered, Thai sweet chili and napa slaw...yes please! Stopped by for the first time to eat lunch today and we loved it. Quick seating, great atmosphere, and our waitress, Kennedy, took amazing care of us. We had the pretzel bites to start, then for entrees: fish & chips (great batter) and the grilled pork chop. Everything came out hot and was so delicious! We had some friends visiting and we needed a place for an afternoon weekend outing. We decided on Union Bear Brewing and I'm glad we did. First and foremost the cocktails were great! We ordered from both the seasonal drink menu and regular and all around we were happy. I was a little skeptical about the pizza with it being deep dish, we were just looking for a small bite but after seeing it (our friend's ordered one) I will definitely be trying the white pie next time! The wings were quite salty and the fries were really nothing special, but at least they were crispy! None of the other appetizers really stood out to me though. The interior is really pretty and has a great patio. Great place to catch some sports with a friendly staff as well. They do have their own parking lot with maybe 10 spots otherwise there are other parking options like street parking and parking garages in the area. read more

First time trying this place and for the most part, enjoyed what we ordered. The decor is a modern lounge/bar and looked really nice. We sat on the patio as it was a nice day out. We started with a beer, a glass of wine, and a "caddy", which is similar to a frozen margarita. The caddy was quite sour and ok. This place didn't have any cider, but I think they may be looking into potentially offering one at some point. Food wise, we split a big tavern burger, which was cooked well and was quite tasty. The fires were probably my favorite. They were the size of McD fries, but really crispy! The crisp dry-sliced wings lived up to their name. They were incredibly crispy and jam packed with seasoning. IMO, they were heavily seasoned, but some might enjoy that. The service was great and I could see us going back at some point. read more

We came to this restaurant to grab a quick dinner in the area on a hot summer evening. Even though we showed up without reservations, seating was not too hard and the wait was not too long. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside and the outside area was also very nice with a beautiful covered porch and well scattered tables. It might be the New York in me, and the fact that I am not as acclimatized to Texas Summers anymore, but when we got to our outside table and sat down, it felt like I was going to die. I really do think that the misters and whatever situation they have for climate control on the outside Porch are simply not enough and they definitely need to add more fans. To start off, I ordered the dry rubbed chicken wings that were absolutely phenomenal, they were cooked perfectly, and I loved the dusting on them. Beer were served cold, but lacked foam on top, which makes it go warm quicker. For my entrée, I went with the trout and was slightly disappointed. The flavors sounded delicious on paper, but did not work too well for me. The slaw was on the dry side and could've used a lot more of that lemony sauce. Arugula was largely missing from the plate and the texture of those dried chickpeas was way off, I would rather prefer them to be crunchy, than dehydrated and soft. They literally added nothing to the dish. The filet of trout itself was cooked very well. I loved the cornmeal dusting and the crunchiness that it added to the exterior of the fish. For dessert, we went with the brownie and I absolutely loved the textures on it. The ice cream paired well, and I loved the little bits of toffee. This was definitely a texture girlie's dream. Overall, I would say this restaurant was a hit or miss, and I hope that they can make some improvement based on my feedback. read more

The chicken tender was delicious; I definitely love the Brussel sprout slaw that came with it. The crunchy almonds in the slaw added the wonderful taste to it . My son got the pretzel bites, and it tasted okay , almost reminding me of baguette. I didn't care much for the beer cheese dip though. Place was full so we ended up sitting outdoors which was a little hot. They had shades and fans so it wasn't so bad despite the triple digit temp. The service was fast and our server was attentive. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back and trying other things. I saw some interesting and nicely plate food serve to other guests. read more

I had ex excellent experience at Union Bear yesterday evening. I had never been to this or any other location, but was in historic McKinney and decided to give it a try. I was assisted by two hostesses, and both were very friendly and welcoming. My waiter was also very friendly and helpful. I sat in the patio, which is slightly covered with fans, misters, and TVs. I ordered a sure house salad, and at the suggestions of my waiter, the reuben and the Whiskey Business cocktail. The food was great and came out quickly. My drink not so much.... At one point, a staff member came to my table with a bourbon flight. I told her I didn't order it. She looked confused but returned to the bar. I was almost halfway through my meal when my waiter approached me, apologizing about the drink. He said that he accidentally hit the wrong drink button for my order and that they were working on the drink I ordered. I appreciated him for apologizing and for taking accountability for the mistake. You have no idea how rare that has become at restaurants. I wasn't upset at all because he acknowledged this error. Two minutes later, my drink arrived and it was very good. It was a nice, flavorful, sweet bourbon drink that's great for the summer. I will absolutely be back to Union Bear! My first time in and I was impressed. They just opened so I expected everything to be on point, and they still exceeded expectations. I was sad they didn't have their stout on tap, but it is getting warmer outside and stout is a cold weather beer ( in my opinion ). Their No Coast IPA was very good. Came here on a crowded afternoon, so get a reservation if possible because we were able to be seated immediately at our reservation time. There are a ton of drink options, and the Union Bear sour beer is delicious! For appetizers we got the Mediterranean platter and it was great. The burger and Brussel sprouts were also fantastic. The best part about the restaurant though had to be how quick the service was. It was full and it must have taken 5 minutes to get our food after ordering. We were in town visiting friends and wanted to keep things easy...no fancy steakhouse. Just good food & drinks and good vibes. This place checked all the boxes. Friend made a reservation for 5pm. We were fashionably late (because we had already gotten into some fun) and our table was held. Seating is communal so aside from the creepy judgey older man that was seated at the other end, we had an excellent time. We ordered a couple plates to share which included the pork rinds, queso and stacked chips...all the dishes were quickly devoured. All Amazing. We also took home a cake slice and chicken fried rib eye just in case we got hungry later....which we did. Wouldn't recommend to take the chicken fried steak home (seems like a no brainer), but it wasn't too terrible reheated in the air fryer. Will have to return to this establishment just to eat the chicken fried steak fresh out of the kitchen the way that it was intended. Lol. Simply put. A perfect new addition to McKinney! Came on opening day, not expecting to get a seat right away, but was surprised and got a booth immediately. I ordered the fish and chips and was a little underwhelmed. The first bite of Cod was perfectly crusted but was a bit fishy, the fries tasted flat, and the brussel sprouts cole slaw was way too tangy and tough. We ordered the UB light draft beer, which was delicious. The interior was warm and inviting with lots of windows overlooking Mitchell Park and the bar area was excellent which opened onto the beautiful patio area. I have visited three times since they opened. Even on opening night they were well trained and personable. Alicia was our server night one and we had a party of six that she handled flawlessly. The appetizers that I have tried are the spicy shrimp, pretzel bites, queso/chips, and the green chili pork rinds. The first three listed here were outstanding and will definitely order again (and have). The pork rinds were too dry in my opinion. Drinks have been the honey bear on repeat and the skinny bear (nicely spiced). The vanilla sky was uber sweet, so it was a one and done. Cheeseburgers, chicken sandwich, and the white pizza have been the dinner orders here. All were excellent and will hit the rotation. Atmosphere here is exactly what downtown McKinney needed. Really nice restaurant, but casual. They slot nicely between a Lockwood/Spoons and Harvest/Ricks. read more

Frequent but not too frequent visits to make I was satisfied and specifically asked if anything additional was needed which is appreciated. Drinks 5/5: I'm an old fashion stickler. They nailed it here. Perfect amount of aromatics, whiskey, sweetness, and a generous portion. Food 4/5: Started with a side Ceasar salad. Croutons were crunchy and not soggy which is a common under viewed appreciation. Only suggestion would be slightly less dressing, dressing is delicious however, could've taken about 20% off to be perfect. Main 4/5 on food was the redfish dish. Couscous, loved it, flavorful, perfect consistency. Arugula salad, refreshing snack in between bites, great quality and not wilted, it's a great touch to the overall meal. The fish is the real 4/5, if you're cooking fish with skin on, I expect the skin to have a nice crisp to it. The redfish would be better prepared without skin. Broiled, steamed, or pan seared in butter is a better option. Or crisp the skin separately in the broiler and add it as a crunchy delicious accessory to the fish. read more
