Great hamburger, excellent place to watch the game! If you find yourself in historic downtown McKinney, it's definitely worth stopping by.

I have to admit, at first the restaurant had a nice, quiet vibe, but the staff seemed fairly young and not very friendly. The food wasn't as good as I expected -- the fried pickles were overly salty -- and I wasn't impressed with the bartenders. They came across as judgmental and selective about who they wanted in their bar. It felt like a cliquey, fraternity/sorority-type atmosphere with a very young crowd that didn't seem to welcome older guests or anyone who played music outside their taste. My husband came in with several friends, got the same vibe, and walked right back out. We ended up going to Loyo Burger instead, which was a much better experience -- friendly bartenders, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would ever return to. I've also spoken with several others who felt the same way. The staff tends to treat people poorly if they don't "fit in," offering terrible service and attitude, and sometimes even refusing to serve certain guests as a way of getting them to leave. Came here with a friend to chill and get dinner and drinks. Lively atmosphere with pretty good customer service depending who you get. We started with a girl waitress who I didn't care for, then ended up with a guy later who had much more energy and cust service skills. Food was just alright. Tried their "famous" stew and the flavor was good, but it came out in a toddler-sized portion. I've been a loyal regular at this pub for over 3 years, coming in no less than 4 times a week and easily spending $80 or more each visit. You'd think that kind of consistency and support would mean something to a business but clearly, it doesn't here. Tonight, I was refused service because I forgot my ID. Fair enough, I understand the policy. But when another long-time server (who knows me well) stepped in and confirmed I was of age, the possible manager (taller old man) still doubled down and denied service. I am not necessarily disappointed that I was denied the service however I am appalled with his poor customer service. He was unnecessarily rude to not only us but his coworker. We came to celebrate my friends wedding and had a friend with us who is blind. He told the bar tender that he would tip her well if she took care of him. The reason he said that was because he is blind and the bar tenders weren't paying attention to him. He closed his tab and did tip her very well. Atmosphere - 4/5 - Located in downtown McKinney, it feels divey, and I like divey bars. Just feels a part of McKinney. Pretty good sized bar. Staff - 5/5 - My bartender was funny, friendly and very accommodating. What I ordered: Food: Pork Rinds - $6 - 4/5 - Went for the buffalo flavor, and did not disappoint. Pretzel - $6 - 4/5 - Nothing special, but goes great with beer. Beverage: Dos Equis. 5/5 - It's Dos Equis. Liquor - Ordered a couple of Jack Daniels on the rocks. Simple, and did it's job. I walked into the Pub McKinney to grab a sandwich and ended up ordering a Waygu burger. Wow! The absolute best burger I have ever had including my own at home. This small local place is right. Ext door to a burger joint and the burger, fried pickles, and calamari are devine. If you're in the area you have to grab a burger here. read more

Stopped in here for a quick dinner and would 100% come back again based on the burgers and the staff. Ordered "The Texas" which is wagyu beef with white cheddar, jalapeño, carmelized onion, bacon and a very flavorful BBQ sauce. Big thumbs up. The service was great as well. It's a dark pub with a fun atmosphere, would like to go again and try out some of the beers...but will show up hungry again next time so I don't miss out on another great burger. read more

The bartender gave me a hard time as he did the last time so I left because I am a bartender as well, and I understand there's no arguing with a bartender's rules.(even though I had done nothing wrong.) When I went in tonight he immediately recognized me at the jukebox after about five minutes. He checked my id and I asked why had not checked anyone else's. He then threw my id at me and hit me in the face with it... I let it go and went to the bar and the bartender threw my money back at my face, hitting me in the eye and ending up making my eye bleed. The Pub is pretty chill and has a good vibe. The server was super cool and offered great suggestions for food and drinks. The fried pickles were awesome and most of the drinks tasted pretty good, too. There was 1 drink called The Pride (or something to that effect) that was godawful. I don't recommend that at all. Everyone at the table hated the taste and were gravely disappointed. Speaking of drinks, be prepared to spend a hefty amount. My Goodness. Took an 8 year break from this place due to poor service. We went twice this month and man is service still bad here. Multiple times had to wave the bartender over since all the floor workers seem to congregate at one end of the bar and talk in a group. Asked for more of a condiment that never got delivered. I can't exactly speak to the food or drinks here but rather an experience. I came with my friends and we went straight from the bathroom to a booth, and I was considering ordering some food. My friend went up to the bar and was denied service (she was only trying to order a Mac and cheese). The reason for the denial was that the server was under the impression that someone in our group called her a derogatory term. None of us in the group (all young women ourselves) ever said anything along those terms and the server admitted that she heard this from someone else. We never interacted with anyone except this server when she asked for our IDs - which we all readily showed. We were incredibly confused - none of us were even trying to order alcohol and would never ever say something like that- many of us have had serving experience and know what it's like. We are really hurt and confused as to why we would be accused of this behavior when the server was not 100% sure of who even said the term in the first place. And denied service on top of that. We never said anything, and are just utterly confused as we never even interacted with other employees. My friend tipped regardless to the server that ultimately let her order a Mac and cheese, and I'm really sorry that someone said that term to the one server, but it genuinely wasn't us and it's ridiculous that we were accused without them being sure who even said that. I wish I could speak to the food or drink, but I have to say that this experience has not made me eager to return to this establishment. read more

This was a good place for lunch, the food was good. I had a great grilled cheese and tomatoes basil soup. The fish and chips were good and the shredded Brussels sprout salad looked amazing. This is a good place to hang out with friends and have a drink and a bite. I've had the mac & cheese and it was pretty good. I've also tried some of the other appetizers and they were good, also. The people working have always been very nice. It can get busy and crowded, but just be patient. They pour a good drink here, that's for sure. The bar can be a little tight, but there is actually a lot of seating on the main floor. There is a raised seating area toward the back, and there are a couple of pool tables in the back. It looks like there may be a small outdoor area past the pool tables but I'm not sure. If you have a group of people, there shouldn't be much of a problem getting a table unless it's just really busy. Overall, a good place to hang out, relax and have a bite and a drink. read more

We had a wonderful evening here. I'd say "what you see is what you get". It's a pub. They have pub food. They have billiards and darts. And they have a lively atmosphere. If you like those things, you'll like this place. The "outdoor" eating area (just large windows open to the outside) is on the smaller side. It looks like maybe they can enlarge the open-air space, but we couldn't tell when we went. We'll definitely go back when we're went another casual, Friday evening. read more

This is an interesting venue. Pool tables, live music, and a patio. The Irish stew is fantastic, robust. This stew appears to have simmered in a dark gravy infused with hints of red wine. I've been coming here since it opened... So quite some time. At some points in time, The Pub has been a 5 star rating. At some points in time, it has been a 3 star rating. We just went there recently (I hadn't been there in quite some time), and I was pretty happy with how it was. The bartenders were friendly. One of them has been around forever, and she's great. Our server was also pretty helpful. I know a lot of people who say service at The Pub is hit or miss, and that had been the case for me in the past. At this time, service was really good though. It was earlier in the evening, and it wasn't extremely crowded or anything... But it was still nice to have an attentive waitress help us out. They have a really nice Happy Hour that I think is relatively new. Really made me enjoy our time there because it's hard to find a good happy hour in Downtown McKinney. Bars think a good happy hour is $1 off all drinks, and that's just not the case. The Pub must have gotten the memo. 1/2 off most appetizers, $4 house wines, $3.50 select drafts, $5 Tito's vodka or Waterloo gin martinis... Monday through Friday from 4 to 7. Plus, they have daily specials and a decent brunch menu. I'm really looking forward to going there to check out their Artisan Cheese Board (which is $8.50 on Wednesday). Anyway, I am glad to have found out about that Happy Hour... And I am super glad this place exists. Will continue to frequent it. read more

Absolutely terrible service on multiple visits. This was our third time with really bad service so after three, we disclose via reviews. We sat down at the table, server greeted us, disappeared and we waited 8 to 10 minutes. Then we asked another server to help us and she said she'd get our server. Another couple minutes past and we finally got our order taken. Another 8 to 10 minutes to get drinks, then nearly a half hour to get our appetizers which were not good at all. It was like they set under a heat lamp too long. We cancelled our next drink order and meals. We went somewhere else and had a great experience. Personally, as a local resident, we are done with giving the Pub chances, so we will not return as there are many other options around the square to get the service you're paying for, expect and deserve. We spoke to the manager during this visit and now we fully understand why the poor service is accepted. The young lady just lacks professional business sense and basic management skills.
