I did not have high expectations when coming here, wasn't sure how it would be. When I saw there was Shepherd's Pie, I had to try it, haven't had that in the longest time. I've been here 3 times with my family and the food and service are always top notch! They decorate the place according to the holiday which my daughter loves. Their hot pies are amazing. My wife and mother in law loved the chicken pot pie. I tried the shepards pie and it was delicious! Other dish I tried was the chicken noodle soup which was tasty and had a lot of noodles and chicken chunks which was nice. They also make great house salads, always fresh and the dressing is made in house and we all enjoy it. The prices for beer are good as well. They have game day special and even without the special $6.50 for an IPA pint is a solid price. We had the chocolate cake twice and it is extremely rich and exploding with flavor. If you love chocolate you will love the cake. Last but not least they have so many TVs and they play all types of sports including bowling, golf, cornhole, so it really can be entertaining for anyone. For more years than I can recall, I have enjoyed both dine-in and carry out food from Delaneys. One of my favorites are the Guinness Stew and the Chicken pot pie, both of which are outstanding. This evening I ordered another pot pie for carry out. Within the first few bites it became clear that this pot pie was something special. After I finished my meal I called the recipe and talked to the manager on duty, to let them know this that this pie was indeed EXTRA SPECIAL. The manager was glad to hear my complement and stated that they have recently tweaked a few of their selections and are glad to hear a complement. I told the manager that whatever they are doing- they certainly waived the magic wand on this selection. BRAVO for improving an already excellent dish ! ! ! read more

Overall a great dinner experience. The place was warm and inviting as you would expect an "Irish Pub" to be. Plenty of big screen TVs for the sports fans. Our server was prompt, attentive and friendly. We had the pub nachos, garlic parm wings, shepherds pie, and Addy's Strawberry Shortcake which were all excellent.....except the nachos were a little over cooked. I have been Pet sitting for a nice couple in McKinney and it's my first time in this beautiful neighborhood! I asked the Owners what some of their favorite places to eat are and the first place they mentioned was Delaney's Irish Pub. I looked at their Menus online and there are so many delicious items to choose from but what stuck out to me was my all time fave Shepherds Pie. I decided to order this for Dinner and for dessert I got the Bread Pudding. The Shepherds Pie comes with a side salad so I got mine with Pub Ranch dressing. When the food was delivered it was nice and hot and smelled so good. It didn't take long for me to dive into my food and every bite was even better than the one before!! Fun, casual, Irish pub that looks just like you're probably imagining. Our server, Marcel, was nice and attentive, while still letting us enjoy a quiet meal. They have a lot of different options to choose from but we stuck to more of the "traditional" items. The corned beef and cabbage, and shepherd's pie were so good. Definitely comfort food. The shepherds pie came with a salad as well. They have a dill pickle soup that is a must have. It's not very pickle forward but you can taste it. It's hearty with potatoes and chicken. My husband and I came last year and enjoyed ourselves. We came again with our family of 4 today...so disappointing. Upon first arriving, It took 20 minutes to get my husbands bottled beer...it was the wrong beer. Our waitress took our order and my 5 year old sons wings came out wrong. (I had ordered 10 pieces half lemon pepper/half plain with Buffalo sauce). We were told to remake would take time but we agreed not knowing that 30 + minutes would go by to receive the 5 wings with no time update...Nothing else was offered for him...(no fries or other thing to snack on) so I had to make him eat the lemon wings he didn't like. There also was no discount offered for the mistake on their part. Table was unattended many times, the hostess had to get our waitress and silverware... The service has been consistently very inattentive across all visits, but the food is decent and the cocktails are average and it's a good, casual place to spend an evening with friends, especially if you visit on a Tuesday for trivia night. read more

Why you have someone screaming on a mic for some trivia game let alone playing loud heavy metal music between questions is beyond me. What makes restaurants think people want to hear nonsense when they just want to have dinner will always baffle me. Our neighborhood bar. Took my girl for some happy hour darts on Friday. The place always has a friendly vibe and is bigger than it looks from the outside. At 5 pm the place was slow but by 7 pm it was pretty full. We had the nachos and the lettuce wraps and they were definitely on point. Isabella made sure our drinks were good and she was awesome. My wife and I went here last week as we are trying out new (to us) restaurants in McKinney as new residents. The ambience is very much like a combination of a restaurant and pub with booth and table seating, a large bar, and dart boards and pool tables. My wife started out of the a seasonal mixed drink that was pretty tasty - I can't remember the name of it, but I believe it had vodka, raspberry puree, and sprite. We let the server know we had never been there before, and she gave us a sample of some of their appetizers - the Philly rolls and Texas Taters, with a side of ranch. These appetizers were awesome! For our entrees, I had the Fish and Chips, and my wife had the Shepherd's Pie. The fish and chips were cooked well, not overly greasy, and the tartar sauce was good in flavor. I really enjoyed the fries because they were seasoned well, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. My wife's Shepherd's Pie was great - full of flavor, great presentation in a ceramic dish, and the portion size was good. For dessert, we shared a triple chocolate cake that was rich and flavorful. One of the best Irish pubs in North Dallas. We almost always sit at the bar wherever we go and the people here make this one of our best experiences. Big, awesome food menu, with some real stars - fish and chips are unmatched, both kinds. Actual Irish food, corned beef and cabbage, and bangers and mash are very authentic. The Reuben is my wife's favorite and the whole thing is awesome, all the parts, bread, thousand island, corned beef, cheese, all the right proportions, just super-good. Their fries are good, but you gotta try the SIDEWINDER fries if you are a fry lover. We are also jukebox fans and we always play awesome music whenever we are there. The ambience is lively, upbeat, and we have come to often see people we know, most everyone is friendly and talkative, spurred on by the awesome bartenders. Delaney's is a pretty nice place, a bit bigger and more "American" than a typical Irish pub, but I do love the remote control jukebox so I can play some Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys! Drinks were good and reasonably priced, staff is very friendly, I had the pretzel starter which was delicious, and then the Shepherd's Pie which was also delicious, but small for $15. I expect bigger portions at an Irish pub, and though it was one of the best SPs I've tasted, it was the size of a side. Everything else was excellent! read more

Crazy to say but I ended up going here twice in one week once for late lunch and then a surprise birthday dinner. Definitely a kool place to hang out and maybe play a game of pool or darts or even just chill at the bar. The puzzling part to me is both times I have went the Irish food has been ok to mid but the burgers and cheese sticks are smacking. I ordered the fish and chips and my friend ordered the shepherds pie. The fish was two big although I really appreciate the portion size it needs to be cut in half then battered and cooked. Batter would not stay on the fish and the middle was cold. The chips are potato wedges cut in the middle? Good but not chips. Now the good!! Cheese Sticks and fried pickles are nice sized and tasted great. And if you are craving a good burger the Owners burger is a good choice. It was about 130 that we were having lunch and there was one large table of like tennis ladies that were finishing up and us and maybe two more tables we couldn't get the lady to come to us to get our drink order besides water we waited on tea Then it took her a long time to come back to take our food order and we both got salads. My friend salad was drenched and the salad dressing some kind of raspberry vinaigrette and basically couldn't finish it. Mine was some kind of chicken pasta salad. It was average. In tenth grade I thought I'd met the love of my life in my first real boyfriend- Eric. Now there's a lot of reasons I liked this guy - he had a car (that was a BIG deal even though it backfired and everyone at school would duck when he dropped me off) and he worked as a manager at the local McDonald's so obviously the smell of pickles and ketchup mixed with Gravity cologne were catnip to me. Plus...what girl doesn't want a guy in an authoritarian role and a uniform? So what if it was McD's? It didn't hurt he was older too (21) and had zero ambition other than to be in a band (he wasn't nearly that cool). On our first date he took me and another couple out to Applebee's in Longview and y'all...he paid for everyone. That included a cheese stick app! That must have been $35 back in 1996 and I immediately knew this guy was the real thing. Guys don't just drop that many $5s without super loving you. Fast forward past "I love you" and "I'm never going to college" and six months in this fool dumps me because I was not about to go past ticket check-in, LET ALONE let him go to any base other than his gramp's basement ALONE. In comes some chick named Sabby that worked at the Valero and let's just say in a day I lost my boyfriend and my dignity at PE as I whaled on Sabby's sister. Now jump to 2013. I'm at a McDs in Forney and I see this fool working there and we make eye contact. He hadn't aged well and after years of hard living it showed. He came around to hug me and I backed up, mostly because he smelled of alcohol and while I like a good drink with my #2 meal, DAYUUUUMMMMMMM GINA! Meanwhile I was looking pretty good and as I tell my kids "I just said one thing..."You lost this!" It's probably the only time in life when I've been confident I made good choices. Another moment was stepping into Delaney's (see what I did there?) as unlike Eric NO ONE RUSHES YOU TO DO ANYTHING Service is always on point and when they recommend something they won't turn around and STAB YOU IN THE BACK with that pickle soup spoon. Speaking of the pickle soup...it's a top 3 question I get as to what that really tastes like. I'd say it's as salty as I was in 1996 but to be accurate it tastes like a cream of chicken soup with tons of fresh dill and pickle pieces. It's enough for you to go "okay. I see what you did there" but not enough for you to make that face you make when you mow down a concession stand pickle. Other things it won't do? Pretend it's something it's not (hi Eric). This place knows that if it has shepherds pie and Guinness stew on the menu it had better deliver on every front and boy...does it. Every member of DropKick Murphy's and Peaky Blinders would agree that this place has LEGIT Irish fare. It feels like you are an extra in The Departed but not one who gets taken out like EVERYONE IN THAT MOVIE. Other favorites? Oldest is all about the chicken pot pie here and they must use an entire one in there. Youngest loves the wings and burgers. I'm partial to the stews, soups and sometimes the ahi, which I know is weird but just go with me here. It's FANTASTIC. I thought seeing Eric in 2013 was great but then I had a leprechaun kiss here and it was SO MUCH BETTER. I give this joint three Murphy's, an O'Shea and two Southie street hockey games, which means it's awesome. Service is friendly but the food is awful. I've given it two chances but would recommend only going to drink not eat. The last time I got the halibut and chips (how can fried fish not taste great?). Unfortunately, it was soggy not crispy, super salty, their "pub fries" are terrible wedges that are flabby, mushy, and salty (give me regular crispy fries please!) and veggie side dish had about a tablespoon of dried oregano dumped on top and was inedible. read more

Tried Delaneys last night. It is definitely a hidden gem the locals know about. Lots of TVs to watch any sporting event going. It became completely full very quickly on a Thursday evening. A great feel and vibe overall. I was a little concerned we waited in our booth for at least 15 minutes before getting spoken to. Finally someone came and then it was great service. I got a peach champagne drink which was delicious!! Then I got the sliders which were so so good! They had beer queso on them and a potato bun. Yum! The sweet potato fries were delicious without the cinnamon sugar. Shepherds Pie was so good as well! Will be back very soon! read more
