Great Dogs, service and a great place to eat. The outside setting was great and having my dog with me made his day!

Hot dogs and cocktails?! These are a few of my favorite things so I knew we had to check it out. From the first time we came here, the experience was great. We sat at the bar for cocktails, we chose the Texas pecan old fashioned and a whiskey sour. I had a regular hotdog which was good. Since going the first time we have been back at least 4 times! We have tried so many different things and have never been disappointed. The chili dog is good, the Philly cheesesteak and burgers are great as well. They have a seasoning on their fries which is nice as well. Jordan behind the bar is great! She is always sweet and easy to talk too. She makes sitting at the bar a wonderful experience. I really love that their house white wine on tap is a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, that was a really nice surprise! read more

Tried this place last weekend and was very impressed. Decor is warm, retro and brings you right in like you've been going there for years. Wife and I shared a double smash burger and the wife had a Philly cheese steak, both delicious. We shared an order of fries and that was plenty for both of us. We will return to try some other items. read more

I highly recommend this place, the name implies more hot dogs but it's more burger focused. Ambience is very unique, serves was exceptional! Coney dog and fish sandwich was excellent, also the seasoning on the fry's was excellent. We will be back for the burgers, they looked amazing! read more

Tried Shorty's for the first time today. The smash burger was fantastic. I got the double with everything and it hit the spot so well. My wife got the single. She loved it. Her only regret was not getting it double , which she will next time. We got the poutine as a shared side. The gravy was very salty, so not sure I will get it again. Maybe try the fried pickles next time. I will try this place again for sure. read more

Mr. Bryan McVay owner and restaurateur has done it again! Created a slice of Americana on the historic downtown McKinney Square. Hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, and cocktails served inside an old building renovated to perfection. The atmosphere is inviting with kitchen up front and visible. The long bar and seating is reminiscent of days gone by. Outside dining underneath umbrellas on the spacious walkway directly across from the courthouse is great for people watching. Every plate of food was eye catching and mouth watering. I'm a huge hot dog fan and ordered the original coney with fries and a drink. It was everything I had hoped for. Bun , dog, and chili was delicious. The chili was smooth and seasoned right. The onions on top made it memorable. This restaurant has its own vibe and stands alone in the ever growing hot dog sector. The staff was attentive and caring. I'll be back for more and to try everything on this menu. I predict this one location will expand soon. I highly recommend this restaurant. I am giving Shorty's the benefit of the doubt because this was their opening week and they were clearly still ironing out the wrinkles, but they had some really really great food and I know they will figure it We stopped in here on a whim while walking around downtown and needed a quick bite. There is limited seating inside, mostly 2 person tables or bar seating, but the vibes are perfect -- wow! We loved the decorations and view of the grill. While waiting for a table there are plenty of shops to check out around the downtown square. Unfortunately, once we were seated we waited a significant amount of time before anyone stopped by our table & also waited a while for our food. The staff was apologetic and explained that they are still learning the ropes and getting staff online - I don't expect this to be a universal experience. Prices are very reasonable, but they do align with the portion sizes. The menu is small, but has unique flavors for hot dogs, burgers, and fries a long with the classics. We opted for burger, fries, and a hot dog and were blown away! With the first bite of the burger, it flew to the top of my "best burger" list! The gravy on the poutine had a robust flavor profile and was perfectly salty, I would love if there was a bit more cheese. The cony style chili paired perfectly with the crispy french fries! We did not get a drink during this visit, but I would love to come back for one because their cocktail menu was well crafted and pours around the restaurant looked amazing. read more

Ate here with a friend recently. Got a burger and fries. Burger had good flavor, fries could have been more crisp. (normally i would send back but had a time crunch this visit) Service was good, our drinks stayed filled and we were checked on from time to time. Fun atmosphere-retro feeling. As a native New Yorker, a great hot dog is important in my life. Been to Coney Island more times than I can count, this place here in McKinney doesn't disappoint, it impresses me. The hot dogs here are really, really good. I spend a lot of time on my music hobby, and took a break one day and came here, I left feeling like I need to come back. Fries were also good. We slept on this place and what a mistake. Bomb smash burgers and Philly. The sesame seed bun on the burger was great. I loved the creeaminess of the American cheese on the King smash burger. The Hoagie roll on the Philly held up to the juices to the last bite. Recommend the shorty sauce with the burger, the Philly and the fries. We will make it a point to go back for the whitefish sandwich and conies. Ordered an Irish coffee, so good. Came with a little cookie dessert, yum! The dining room is small but the decor is retro and very cool. Must try in downtown McKinney. read more

Nice addition to the square! I've dined in once and it was really good, but my take out order not so much. For that reason, I recommend eating in!! The interior is really cool and I like all the added decor, like the TV's near the back of the restaurant and the sign that shows what song is currently playing. It's a really retro kind of vibe. I like that Shorty's is open late and you can come here to get a quick bite. We got a standard hotdog and tasty smash burger, along with the truffle fries the first go around and everything tasted good. Food price is super reasonable as well! read more

Food was ok. We ordered two hot dogs, one plain and one with chilli and a chicken bacon spicy ranch sandwich. Sandwich I recommend. Bacon was crispy and chicken was well cooked wasn't dry at all. I opted for it because it was the only thing with greens on it. The ambiance was great and loved the vibe. The venue looked beautiful, restored the charm and intrinsic feel of historic McKinney. Did wish for more green items like a salad. Maybe they'll add it later. Overall, a good spot for greasy food and drinks. A great addition to the square. What a throwback when you walk into Shorty's. The stuff is so fun and friendly you feel like a member of a family before you're even seated. The menu is a fun trip down memory lane with things like fish sandwiches and coneys. There is a sweet libation menu and you're going to want to try every drink so be aware you're going to want to make this a repeat visit for some time!! What a gem this restaurant is. The staff is very engaging and personable. The atmosphere is awesome with a retro feel making the classic american menu even better. The food and sauces are all scratch made to order and full of flavor. We can't wait to go back and try some other of the menu items. Alright, I'm not one to boast restaurant burgers, especially because I cook a mean smashburger after years of practice-- but holy sh*t. Best smash-burgers you can get in the area. Great service, and the old school vibes are a really nice touch that I appreciate. If you don't go here you are quite literally doing yourself a disservice. The patio was small but nice. The food was amazing and brought out fresh. I had the bacon bbq burger and I loved it. We did the fried cheese as an app and we will definitely be trying the fried pickles next time. The staff is super friendly. The place is cute and welcoming;, liked the outdoor seating. The hot dogs are average, similar to what I can quickly make at home; they are good but nothing special. I ordered two Original Coneys, they were short on Coney Sauce; probably less than half of what is on the current Yelp photos. I would return but would try a different sandwich and I'm a long term Hot Dog lover. The couple I dined with had Smash burgers, they liked them but made the mistake of ordering them without sauce, the one item that is the glue for a good Smash burger; without the sauce they said the burgers were dry. With all that said, you should try it, the food is good and the service was great. read more
