I celebrated my birthday at Bob's Steak & Chop House for the second time this past Friday. The food was incredible, and our server provided excellent service throughout the evening. My disappointment came from being asked to remove a designer ball cap while other patrons were wearing cowboy hats, cargo shorts, flip-flops, and what appeared to be gym attire. I completely understand and respect a dress code if that is the restaurant's policy, but standards should be applied consistently across all guests. In my opinion, Bob's overall atmosphere feels more casual than many of the other upscale dining restaurants in DFW, which made the situation feel inconsistent and somewhat selective. I also noticed several staff members who appeared unprofessional, and the manager did not seem to uphold the same standards being enforced on guests or his own personal appearance. Pretentious looking ambiance with comforting food at its core. This was my first time at Bob's and I was beyond impressed. The time to get into the restaurant took a tad longer than I would like but was made up during sit down service. This can be helped out by person taking tables to tell other waiting patrons that she will be right with them. Once seated, bread comes to the table and there is a jar of pickles and peppers. The game is playing in the back and we are near the rectangular bar area. Our server, Brian will be the reason I visit again and request to be served at his table. He made helpful suggestions was genuine and hilarious. The portions are HUGE. The salad I ordered had banana peppers, tomatoes, onions and bacon bites. I added pecans and ranch dressing. I couldn't stop. For entree, my dinner guest and I devoured the succulent ribeye and this scalloped potato looking side with gravy and onions. Bob's just feels down home, they haven't gotten away from their roots down home. Carrots, pickles are part of that association that people talk about. The carrot cake was a site to see. Towering from tables away, I had to lay it on the side to cut into it and just admired the layers. The walnut crunch, creme cheese icing was amazing with the moist cake. We all have had carrot cake that has been dry. Not this! This dinner was to celebrate a belated bday and that I did. I ran into a colleague and sent her a drink. You want a cigar? They have a lounge. Consider Bob's for all those functions or 1:1 with a friend at the bar to watch the game. I came here for a pharmaceutical dinner through work, and overall, the food was quite good. We were in a nice private room. The restaurant itself is dark so get ready . We had private servers so they were on top of it! One small suggestion--consider serving the cocktail sauce on the side with the shrimp, since not everyone enjoys it. I wasn't a fan of the champagne vinaigrette, but that's just personal taste. The steak, however, was outstanding--perfectly cooked with a flavorful crust. The bread and corn were also delicious and definitely stood out. I took the dessert bites to go, and the carrot cake was hands down the best I've ever had. The building is very small & tables are cramped together. It's so loud in the restaurant that you can barely make conversation without really raising your voice. The service & food made up for it though. We always get a tomahawk for his birthday & they did not disappoint. The chef cooked it perfectly medium rare. All of the steaks are paired with glazed carrot & a variation of potatoes. The presentation of the carrot is underwhelming. The spinach & mushrooms was salty but when we mixed it with the smashed potatoes. I highly recommend the calamari as appetizer. Have given this location numerous chances to be good, but it just doesn't come close to the Bob's in Plano. Food has not been up to par with what we expect and have always had at the Plano location. We've been frequent patrons of the Plano location for 10+ years and will just stick to that location. The McKinney location is about 2 miles from our home so we were excited when they opened, but have had one disappointment after another so we gave up. Actually had a bartender one night that was "dressing" my baked potato for me ( that's how they do it there) and he dropped cheese on the bar in the process then picked it up with his hand and put it on my potato!!! That's just one of the strikes against them. Unfortunately, I've heard a lot of the same complaints from friends and clients that have tried this location. Bob's steakhouse was the sweetest surprise. My husband and I had never been here before, but we will now be customers for life. I have to give our waiter, Jay, the biggest shout-out. He was so knowledgeable, impressionable, and charismatic. When we go back, I'll probably request him specifically to be our waiter. He had so many suggestions and never led us astray. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp, the bacon slice, French onion soup, lobster bisque, ribeye, filet mignon, and the peanut butter chocolate sundae for dessert. We also had the old fashioned, dirty martini, and the espresso martini. Everything was impeccable. We're newlyweds and this was the best meal we've had since our honeymoon! Bob's is always a pleasure. We made reservations for a Saturday night and waited a few minutes to be seated. Their steak is delicious and none of their food disappoints. We started off with a crab cake and ordered the filet mignon and sea bass. Both of which I would highly recommend. We got their cheesecake to go for dessert. I had a glass of the Le Fete Rose and it was delicious. Our waitress, Teresa, was a sweetheart. Went here last night for a client dinner. Service was exceptional! Never had my water and wine refilled with such panache and regularity. Food was amazing and well done. They did an excellent job of picking out our wine. Meat as soft as butter. I was going to get lobster instead but the Yelp reviews suggested sticking with the meat. I wish I got a lobster bisque, I was jealous of theirs. My one suggestion for improvement would be packing up my ice cream in a plastic container of some sort. They boxed it up and it was a muddy puddle by the time I got home. I went to bed in a food coma. My husband had to take the kids to school the next day. It was thick and very good. Enough meat to pull away the fat. The Cesar salad was also very good, light dressing so it's not drenched which I like. Again, the steak was amazing. The sweet potato was served with a cinnamon brown butter which was so good. The carrot...honestly it killed me. It's huge. I think it has to be genetically modified haha, but still good! They do offer the pickles here, which was an interesting story I did not know. We started with the meatballs, which were really good, and then the bacon wrapped shrimp. Had a great date night at Bobs. Food was fantastic as was the service. We started with Lobster Bisque and a wedge salad. The wedge was very fresh and the blue cheese dressing was spot on. The lobster bisque was very good (almost too salty but I like salty and was good with it, my wife felt it was too salty for her) and it came with one of the largest lobster claws I've ever seen! We split the 16oz Filet Oscar and WOW! We usually are ribeye people, but felt like doing something a little different and what a great choice! Not only was it bigger than any filet I've had before, but it was one of the best steaks I've had and I eat a lot of steak! Béarnaise was also excellent (I had to get an extra side of béarnaise it was so good) and the crab meat was large, fresh and there was a lot! They do a great tableside service for baked potatoes that we really enjoyed and the cream spinach was good even though we ended up taking most of it home. Finished with a crème brûlée that was also outstanding. Service was on point and we were very impressed with our hostess Skylar who was very engaging and took a few mins to talk with us as we were getting settled in. It was a great start to a wonderful meal and experience and we are looking forward to go back again soon! I will mention that this location is very open compared to most other bobs I have been to and I can see how this could lead to a very loud environment on busy nights. The decor and ambience make it feel cheap and inauthentic with zero vibe whatsoever. The bar is full of sketchy, trashy characters at night. For starters the food was delicious! The mac-n-cheese and my ribeye were so amazing! Now the reason for my 3 star review....I was absolutely not impressed with the ambiance at all. I have been to many fine dining steakhouses over the years and have always enjoyed the quiet, dimly lit romantic feel of the dining room. Starting with finding the front door to this place, to being greeted in a tiny dungeon of a hostess stand and then being escorted to our table near a BAR in the middle of the restaurant, I was absolutely not impressed. When asked if we could have a more quiet secluded table, we were seated near the kitchen in a booth. Again the food was tasty but for the price we paid for our meal, I would expect a lot more from the ambiance in a fine dining steak house...especially one that was recently built! They could have done a lot better with their design/lay out! Seeing two large tv's showing sports shows as we are trying to have an enjoyable romantic dinner isn't necessarily the vibe we were going for...we could have done that at home! Yay! We have a brand new Bob's in McKinney!!! My friends and I went for dinner last night. The location is awesome. Right off 121 and Alma. Lots of new restaurant's coming in there. The bar here is larger than the other Bob's that we go to. I like this one the best. Seriously though, it should be twice the size as it seems like many people love dining at the bar, as we did. My date and I shared the NY Strip with a baked potato. It came with their huge yummy carrot as well. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare as we requested. The other couple with us had the salmon. They enjoyed it, but it looked really pathetic to me. I asked for a taste and it was super bland. Gray on the bottom (scrape that off Chef...it tastes fishy and is slimey) there didn't seem to be any seasoning on it or sear or any kind. Our meal was great and I would recommend ordering a steak here. A couple next to us ordered the largest filet (appeared to be what is known as the baseball cut). It looked fabulous and I asked them to confirm. It was a resounding YES! Oh. We also had wedge salads which were delicious! They didn't offer us any bread but I saw other diners got it. Maybe they forgot? The bartenders need help. Very busy bar and restaurant with just 3 bartenders. The one waiting on us initially wouldn't make any eye contact or turn towards us as I would ask for another drink, trying to get his attention but being polite. We finally made eye contact with another and he continued to wait on us the rest of the night. He was great. Wish I knew his name. He was older than the other 2 and "seasoned". . We will be coming back soon in hopes that the service gets better. I would suggest that the manager gets to know his customers. Greet people, check on them and be friendly. Just an observation that I didn't notice that. Sometimes it's the staff that will bring me back to a restaurant over and over it's not always about the food.
