I was out and about and didn't get a chance to eat today so decided to treat myself to lunch! I was in the area and seafood sounded amazing so super shack sounded pretty awesome. It is right off of 75 and a pretty unassuming restaurant. Plenty of options, seafood and not. You order at the bar, get a number and they bring to the table. Decor is rustic seafood shack vibe, complete with painted palm trees. The servers were friendly, and the food came out piping hot and quickly. I opted to do the seafood bowl which had crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn and went with the Cajun seasoning for the recommendation of the server. It was served in a large stainless steel bowl, and a plastic bag, full of awesomeness, served with a side of drawn butter for dipping. I've been meaning to try this place ever since they closed Joe's Crab Shack in Plano. We went late on a Friday afternoon.... after lunch but before dinner. The place was clean and had nice decor. As others have mentioned, the first thing you do is place your order at the bar/counter. They give you a number and bring it to your table. We ordered fried calamari, the chicken and sausage gumbo (I asked to add shrimp), the clam chowder, the 4 chicken/2 catfish fillet basket, and the boiled "Supershack Platter for Two". (1/2 lb snow crab legs, 1/2 lb shrimp. Served with corn, sausage and potatoes) The good news: the food arrived promptly and everything looked pretty good. My wife and I thought both our soups were very tasty. The bad news: My wife thought her fillet basket was ok, but nothing special. As for my boiled "Platter for Two"... it wasn't really a platter for two, unless neither person was very hungry. The shrimp was pretty good, but the snow crab legs were small, scrawny, and a little overcooked. No better than the scrawny crab legs you find on any number of Chinese buffets in the area. So disappointing. Oh, and they didn't put any shrimp in my gumbo even though I paid for it. Summary: Meh. Not really "Super Shack"...more like "Ok Shack". Uber roomy, lots of TV's, specials when the Cowboys are playing, and super delish Cajun food! Holla! Think of the last time you went to a popular sports bar. There's no drink specials, duh... The word gumbo means okra so it is in my opinion the one essential ingredient, I took the order to go and discovered... not one bit of okra. 3.5/5 stars - food is decent and prices are pretty fair especially since seafood tends to be on the pricey side. On Mondays, the alfredo pasta (your choice of chicken or shrimp) is only $9.99. The alfredo sauce is pretty tasty even though it's not as thick as I am used to. Although the sauce is on the runny side, it's still got flavor. The fettuccine was cooked to perfection. I opted for shrimp over chicken and thought the six pieces of shrimp I got were pretty solid. Overall a decent dish - great price and good portion. The hushpuppies are better than average. My friend normally doesn't care for hushpuppies but was pretty pleased with Super Shack's hushpuppies. They give you 6 pieces for $1.99. My friend opted for the 2 filet and 3 shrimp combo platters and substituted the fries with onion rings. The fried fish and shrimp were pretty average and nothing to write home about. I don't recommend the onion rings - I was not feeling the batter. Maybe it was underwhelming because we got it to-go? All in all, I'm not a huge fan but I am open to trying them again. read more

Edit- I've since learned the lingo here by trial and error. The shrimp CAN BE EDIBLE and downright tasty if you order it correctly. Tell them to "calm" the spice on your order and not only does this make them palatable with a Cajun kick of heat but for some reason it makes them NOT OVERCOOK IT. Upgrading it to four, rounding up from 3.5. Whatever you do...call it in! So much easier! I came in to get some of the spicy shrimp like I got last time. Holy crap! I LOVE spicy food, but this was inedible. Not only were they spicy, it was salty as all get out. The shrimp were completely overcooked. It's like someone took an entire salt shaker and dumped it on the basket. As far as the spice goes, I can handle tons of spice, but this was just heaps of Cajun seasoning on one shrimp. I wouldn't compare this place to Razoos or Bonefish. It reminded me of a Catfish King with some grilled and boiled options. Now, I love Catfish King so to me that's a good thing. When I walked into the glossy brown concrete floor with royal blue accents eatery I was a little confused. There were signs of the specials by the door, so I thought a hostess would be seating us. I stood there and read the specials. Then I finally saw a large sign that said order here. Then it dawned on me, this is a counter service restaurant. You place your order, then they give you a number. After that you pick your seat. There's ample seating with a large outdoor patio. It was immaculate inside. My son had the shrimp Alfredo. It was fantastic. The sauce was spot on and the shrimp were well seasoned and tender. I had the salmon salad. The picture showed iceberg lettuce. I was pleasantly surprised it was served with romain. My only complaint is the salmon was dry and had a freezer burn taste to it. I would like to try the po boy or clam chowder on my next visit. Glad to see another fish place in McKinney. read more

And the seasonings that other reviewers said was so tasty...did not lie about that either I ordered the Super Shack Platter Boil and under the Special Instructions section, I asked if their shrimp came deveined. And if not, to please make sure that they are. I grew up on the east coast and that's how it was always done. Prior to trying Super Shack, I tried Half Shell at the Shops of Legacy. And I only got half of what I ordered from Super Shack. The major differences? Taste, portion, and price. I received way more food from Super Shack, that was fresh not fishy, boiled perfectly, seasonings on the side were absolutely delicious, and the portion was AMAZING. To top it off, cleaned, deveined, butterflied shrimp that I could actually eat I just realized that I dug into to it so quickly, I forgot to take a picture. Sorry Super Shack. Yes I'm going to do another review of Super Shack. I just wanted to do an update as to let people know that if you don't want those flat overcooked fries, you can simply ask for regular fries. We didn't know that we had that option, but thankfully we know now. LOL. Their catfish baskets are so good and the service is excellent. We like their chill atmosphere and seafood. Their hush puppies are decent as well. The one thing that was NOT good was their tartar sauce.It was super salty. Like Dead Sea salty. Staff was friendly and when we order margaritas he seemed more laid back and wanted to give ideas of flavors and rim trims. Found a clean table almost immediately. Lots of televisions everywhere. Good, upbeat music. Women's restroom wasn't very clean, but everything was functional. Men's was fairly clean. Mango margarita was yummy but strawberry tasted better in my opinion. I got birria tacos and found a piece of an egg shell on my taco. No one in my family got a dish with eggs. Spoke to the manager she was very nice. Workers are clueless. I personally don't like when workers broom around my area because I am eating and there possible dust being moved around when brooming. Also the servers bring a gray container to put all the dirty dishes...Ive worked in restaurants before & those gray container are filthy, I would prefer the servers to take plates by hand.
