Owner was taking orders he was very nice and knowledgeable. I asked him what he would order and he was honest and it wasn't the most expensive thing on the menu. Definitely a tucked away restaurant. Nothing fancy, but good food and frozen margarita. There's so many things I want to try so I'll be back.

Decided to try a new spot. Cajun cuisine is close to my heart. This place is nice and clean. Chill atmosphere. Great customer service. I felt welcomed. Good variety of food. A place worth trying for yourself. This is what I tried: Crab boil: 7/10 nice juicy pieces of crab. The corn was sweet but a bit over cooked. The potatoes could have been cooked a bit longer. The sauce was good but needs more of a balance in flavor and some depth from the soul. My personal favorite profile is sweet and spicy with a good hint of lemon.... This could have been better. Fried okra: 7/10 cooked well. Missing some seasoning. Red beans and rice: 7/10 cooked well. Flavor was ok. Seems a bit oniony but creamy. Fried catfish: 10/10 well cooked, flavor on point, added cajun flavor as an option. Fish was fresh and flaky. I would come back for this. Hush puppies: 10/10 sweet, fluffy, actual pieces of corn inside, well cooked, flavorful. Key lime pie: 10/10 well balanced, not too citrusy, creamy, nor too sweet, perfect pie. Tartar sauce: I believe this is made in house.... Not sure but it tastes like it. It has the right flavor, consistency, thickness. I always prefer made in house or close to it. Cocktail sauce: this may be made in house.. not sure but it tastes like it. A bit sweet and savory.

You order at the counter and then find a place to sit. The service was great. We were eating lunch at about 1:30 so not very crowded. I noticed several to go orders for carryout. small place however it does have outdoor seating which we took advantage of a beautiful day today. I had catfish seafood ettefae and my husband had a shrimp catfish fried combination plate. We have eaten a lot of Cajun food so I am pretty picky. It was all good, however not the best I've ever had. The service was attentive, friendly is fully owned. I love supporting local owned businesses!

Grilled Catfish with Veracruz sauce is outstanding. Étouffée, fried catfish, shrimp gumbo, jambalaya, Cajun Seafood Alfredo, every dish we've tried has been delicious. The Chef owned restaurant has brought incredible seafood to McKinney.

This place is still delicious! The grilled veggies were excellent, and I can't wait to try my own burger next time! The crab legs were outstanding!

Just finished dinner here at Cajun Fish Grill and we throughly enjoyed our meals. We had their fried catfish, jambalaya and gumbo. My picky son all 3 pieces of his fish. It wasn't bland like most place where you need to dip it into something. The hush puppies were actually fantastic . It wasnt something random added to fill the basket. Their Jambalya was prob one of the best we've had. There was an abundant amount of shrimp for every bite. We enjoyed the food so much we got their cajun Alfredo to try later at home. Friendly servers also.

My husband and I are usually not fans of counter service restaurants. When we go out to eat, we really enjoy a full service experience where we can take our time, start with appetizers or beverages, and enjoy the entire meal. We have no problem tipping for good service. That said, we kept hearing such great things about Cajun Fish Grill that we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we asked if we could start a tab, order clam chowder and beverages first, and then order our entrées later. They were incredibly accommodating and had no problem with this request, which we truly appreciated. The clam chowder was very hearty, thick, and full of flavor. I especially loved the fresh cracked pepper. My husband ordered the blackened mahi mahi with red beans and rice, and he substituted new potatoes for the zucchini. Everything on his plate was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the Cajun pasta Alfredo with shrimp, andouille sausage, pulled chicken, and zucchini in a Cajun Alfredo sauce. It was absolutely lick your plate delicious. Even though this is a counter service restaurant, the food and flexibility made the experience feel special. We will definitely be back to try more items. This place was truly extraordinary.

In my last review, I was very critical of CFG's red sauce. Based on past experience, I went with garlic butter grilled shrimp to avoid the need for red sauce. Husband had catfish, so I tried a bite with the red sauce. Improvements have been made. Gone is the gelatinous texture, but the flavor is still lacking. More horseradish, lemon, garlic, Worcestershire sauce would benefite their red sauce greatly. Grilled shrimp and zucchini were excellent. Fried catfish and Cajun pasta were also good.

This new spot is amazing!! The customer service and the food is incredible! The first time I had the red snapper w/ the crawfish sauce and I was blown away by the right amount of seasoning! The zucchini is also the best I've ever had. I'll be back soon!

Just had a great meal. Blackened grouper and the shrimp/oyster combo was delicious. Cole slaw and hush puppies were amazing. We will definitely come back.

Food is amazing. The catfish, shrimp and fish tacos are all amazing. This small "hole in the wall" atmosphere is alive with flavor.

I have never experienced anything like it! For starters, the staff was phenomenal! Our waitress was so sweet! And while we were enjoying our feast, they even broke out into dance! LOL! Dinner and a show! I will say, there is no menu...I know, bare with me! But the entire meal is family style, and all you choose is your protein which is then brought out family style as well enough to feed the table! At first I couldn't believe it and then they brought out the salad and then followed all the sides! And I am talking mash potatoes, green beans, biscuits, gravy, corn! It was endless! And sure enough when we finished something, it was quickly picked up and refilled! I ordered the catfish and my partner got fried chicken and let me just say...10/10! They brought out the crispiest fried fish and chicken ever and it was enough to feed us both with leftovers! I would definitely recommend this place for any family celebration or outing with friend! It was a perfect dinner! We cannot wait to return!

When I arrived, I was waiting on two family members who were about 10 minutes away, so I went ahead to put our name in. The hostess told me I could go right in, which made it seem like a table was ready, but she never took my name or wrote anything down. After I explained I was waiting for two others, she said "okay" and then started taking names and numbers from other parties, leaving me off to the side without her saying anything else. It was odd, so I sat down. After sitting for maybe 5-7 minutes, I noticed she was taking names for parties of 2 and 3, which was confusing. When I asked about it, she said she already had my party and name even though she had never taken it. At that point, it felt like the Chinese restaurant episode of Seinfeld, where somehow you're waiting but also not really on the list. She finally took my name for a party of three and quoted a 30-45 minute wait, without accounting for the time already lost. My family members arrived shortly after, and we still waited another 20 minutes or so. Once we were seated, the service didn't improve much. Our server was extremely slow, and everything came out at once. We barely had time to get drinks, salads, or biscuits before the food arrived. Refills and additional requests felt more burdensome than attentive. While the food and drinks themselves were great, the overall service felt very disorganized and subpar.

However, I sometimes have to be in north Dallas for business, and this one on Forest is close enough to justify the side trip. I can still say that Mike's has the best damn chicken in DFW. I agree that the sides can be a little underwhelming, and nowadays I usually just grab a couple spicy breasts (yea baby) and sometimes an order of fries (nothing fancy, still good) and forget the plates. But honestly, this is one of those places that you come for the main attraction and if you're counting anything else, well, that's just not right. Yes, you can wait 15 minutes or more when you order at the counter. I've finally come to the point where when my work is done, I borrow someone's computer and order it online, and it's usually ready by the time I get there. This is the way to do it. I kept wondering who Mike was, so I looked it up--turns out Mike's Chicken is Vietnamese-owned, which somehow made me trust the operation even more. Fair warning: when you go, be ready to wait about 20 minutes--or order ahead like someone who values their time. They cook everything to order. I was like, what? In this fast-food age of heat lamps and broken dreams? But the wait is worth it. The chicken comes out fresh and hot as fuck. Crispy, juicy, and clearly made by people who respect the craft. The Food: I ordered the Spicy Chickenjoy with gravy, and the photos I took tell the whole story. The chicken arrived drenched in an overwhelming amount of brown gravy that had completely destroyed any crispiness the coating might have once had. The meat itself looked pale and gelatinous where the coating had pulled away -- not an appetizing sight. It tasted exactly like what it was -- chicken that had been sitting on a warming tray for well over an hour. Lukewarm, soggy, flavorless, and rubbery. The gravy couldn't mask how tired and stale the chicken tasted. This was nowhere near the fresh, crispy Chickenjoy the brand is known for. The Restaurant: The dining area looked neglected and poorly maintained. The tables were unclean and the overall appearance of the store reflected a lack of attention to basic cleanliness standards you'd expect from any food establishment. Bottom Line: I would not recommend this location and will not be returning. If you're craving Chickenjoy, find a better-maintained location where food quality and hygiene are actually prioritized.
