The sauce was good but needs more of a balance in flavor and some depth from the soul. My personal favorite profile is sweet and spicy with a good hint of lemon.... This could have been better. Fried okra: 7/10 cooked well. Missing some seasoning. Red beans and rice: 7/10 cooked well. Flavor was ok. Seems a bit oniony but creamy. Fried catfish: 10/10 well cooked, flavor on point, added cajun flavor as an option. Fish was fresh and flaky. I would come back for this. Hush puppies: 10/10 sweet, fluffy, actual pieces of corn inside, well cooked, flavorful. Key lime pie: 10/10 well balanced, not too citrusy, creamy, nor too sweet, perfect pie. My husband and I are usually not fans of counter service restaurants. When we go out to eat, we really enjoy a full service experience where we can take our time, start with appetizers or beverages, and enjoy the entire meal. We have no problem tipping for good service. That said, we kept hearing such great things about Cajun Fish Grill that we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we asked if we could start a tab, order clam chowder and beverages first, and then order our entrées later. They were incredibly accommodating and had no problem with this request, which we truly appreciated. The clam chowder was very hearty, thick, and full of flavor. I especially loved the fresh cracked pepper. My husband ordered the blackened mahi mahi with red beans and rice, and he substituted new potatoes for the zucchini. Everything on his plate was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the Cajun pasta Alfredo with shrimp, andouille sausage, pulled chicken, and zucchini in a Cajun Alfredo sauce. It was absolutely lick your plate delicious. Even though this is a counter service restaurant, the food and flexibility made the experience feel special. We will definitely be back to try more items. I had a whole internal conversation with myself before walking in. But listen -- don't judge a seafood spot by its parking lot. Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised. The environment was clean, the restroom was clean (yes, that matters), and the customer service was genuinely welcoming. That Southern-style hospitality? Present. Now let's talk menu. They offer a full Cajun-style lineup with hints of New Orleans flair -- gumbo, red beans and rice, hush puppies, jambalaya -- plus grilled seafood options, which is always a plus. But I ordered the fried catfish... BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I CAME FOR. With a side of red beans and rice. The catfish was fried hard (the way some of us like it), slightly under-seasoned, but still good. And most importantly -- I could tell the fish was fresh. Fresh fish will always earn points with me. The hush puppies? Not quite like my Aunt Billie makes (and if you know, you know), but they'll make do. The red beans and rice were a little underwhelming for my taste. I'll say this with love: add a smoked turkey leg to that pot. It would deepen the flavor and bring that Creole authenticity all the way home. I did ask for a piece of white bread -- because everybody knows a plain slice of white bread goes with fresh fried fish. They only had a sourdough roll, which I politely passed on. No shade... just tradition. Overall, I enjoyed the service and the fish. They're one of the only local spots offering this kind of Cajun menu, so if you're in TX and missing the flavors of New Orleans and the hospitality of a good old-fashioned family fish fry, give them a try. Would I go back if I'm in the area? Sure. Next time I'll choose a different side... and bring my own white bread. Oh -- and Crystal's hot sauce. I came here on a whim after looking for a cajun spot nearby where I live. It's located in a little shopping strip so there's plenty of parking available. I noticed they have patio seating, seems like a great spot to grab a bite on a sunny day. Inside it is quite spacious with multiple tables available. I missed his name but the older gentleman working the register was very nice. I browsed the menu and decided on the garlic butter mahi mahi, this plate came with rice & beans and grilled zucchini. I cannot believe how flavorful every bite was. The food tasted fresh and it was presented beautifully with the grill markings. Just finished dinner here at Cajun Fish Grill and we throughly enjoyed our meals. We had their fried catfish, jambalaya and gumbo. My picky son all 3 pieces of his fish. It wasn't bland like most place where you need to dip it into something. The hush puppies were actually fantastic . It wasnt something random added to fill the basket. In my last review, I was very critical of CFG's red sauce. Based on past experience, I went with garlic butter grilled shrimp to avoid the need for red sauce. Husband had catfish, so I tried a bite with the red sauce. Improvements have been made. Gone is the gelatinous texture, but the flavor is still lacking. Food came out in minutes, was beautifully presented and piping hot. The catfish was absolutely delicious, moist and flavorful with a nice bit of heat. The zucchini was prepared beautifully, as were the rice and beans. Everything was extremely flavorful, perfectly seasoned and felt like a healthy option after my BBQ binge the night before. Great huge slice of fresh tasting key lime pie too. Some of the best Cajun food I have had outside of NO and the prices are quite reasonable (about $16 for my entree) for the quality and service.
