Ordered the grilled trout. It looked good. But, in my opinion it was greasy and dry without any real flavor. Onion rings were great. Ranch was watery and too tiny for an order of rings and pups.

6 Fried Shrimp Basket with Okra

Bf and I stopped in on a weekday night. While not completely packed, it was lively and there were lots of families around. My partner ordered a catfish po boy and I ordered a basket of 6 fried jumbo shrimp with fried okra. We both pretty much came to the conclusion that everything was alright. Nothing bad, but nothing crazy good. Okra can be equated to Chicken Express taste, which I'm still alright with. I really enjoyed their tartar sauce here, it was bright and flavorful. Bf is already talking about which dishes he should try next, so while I don't think it was our favorite food, it seems like a great place to get variety seafood if you don't want to haul out to fish shack in Richardson.

Excellent! The recently opened branch of the ever expanding " seafood" chain known affectionately as Flying Fish is a winner. What started as a humble, kitchy bait house vibe, single restaurant a couple of decades ago is now a legit chain. As I've said about other establishments before,it's difficult to take an original concept lovingly birthed by a hands on owner and replicate it. Shannon Wynne has successfully accomplished not only the spirit of the original but the food just continues to improve. Best of all, prices are held to a very reasonable level considering the quality, atmosphere and service. Catfish,Redfish, flounder, shrimp, ettouffee, gumbo,on and on....it's all delicious Go!

Get the Snappy Catfish! It's delicious. With corn on the cob and hush puppies Although my portion was a bit lite, i'd get more from here.

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I had high hopes for this location because I absolutely love Radici, and everyone has been…read morerecommending Roots to me. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had. I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

There is ample space between tables so you don't feel cramped. There are TVs on the walls but it does not feel like a typical sports bar. The vibe is upscale and the restaurant was very clean. We started with the homemade biscuits and they were excellent. The proceeds go to charity so placing this order was no-brainer. The biscuits were light and airy, not dense at all. The jam and butter were the perfect accompaniment. Those biscuits are winners! Everyone should order and help the charity. I had the spicy chicken and waffles and it was excellent. The chicken was indeed spicy but the honey helped cool me off. The chicken was tender, the waffle was light but could have been hotter. If you order this dish, you will need a glass or two of cold ice water! The wife had shakshura and loved it. She got some toast on the side for dipping. The grits on the bottom were perfectly cooked. Her only complaint was the egg was supposed to be runny and it was firm. The kid had sweet potato pancakes but ended up filling up on the biscuits. Overall, food was 5 star and really enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that our server, who was pleasant enough, was not very efficient. I am not sure what the problem was but her head was in the clouds. We would ask for something, she would say ok, and then she would disappear and forget to bring what we asked for. This happened more than once, more than twice, and maybe three times. It became a running joke at our table, what would the waitress forget this time? Other than spotty service, we liked this restaurant very much and we definitely would return if we are the Star District again.

From the moment you enter you transport to a feel good 'at home' atmosphere. The service was strong and attentive. And the food... delicious. We started with the fried okra appetizer and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Great flavor and texture. For lunch, I had the spicy chicken and waffles with a side of goat cheese grits and they did not disappoint. Strong showing - not my favorite local chicken and waffles but a strong entry into the conversation. The grits were cooked to perfection and very flavorful. My wife had the baked chicken dish and loved it. I had a bite of it and was very impressed. If you're heading to Frisco, highly recommend this restaurant for a brunch that will not disappoint.
