Everyone was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere is laid-back and fun, with plenty of space to hang out, enjoy your meal, and even play some games. They have arcade-style games, a claw machine, and other fun touches that make it a great spot for families and groups. The crawfish was definitely the highlight! At only $8.95 a pound, it's an amazing deal and one of the best values around. It was flavorful, fresh, and exactly what we were hoping for. You know that fish shack at "The Lake" or "Down the Shore" (for New Jersey alumni), this is that place. Only thing missing is the view. Come in your flip flops. It's all good. There is a big menu, including gumbo and oysters. Bring a group. Just push tables together and you are all set. Only thing missing would be some music. Conversation is no problem. A solid place to get southern, fried fish. I ordered the catfish poboy and found it very competent, the taste was good and the cocktail sauce on the Poboy was new to me, but a welcome addition. The side of hush puppies and fries were pretty good too. The atmosphere was exactly what I wanted to see and the service was fast and courteous. Bf and I stopped in on a weekday night. While not completely packed, it was lively and there were lots of families around. My partner ordered a catfish po boy and I ordered a basket of 6 fried jumbo shrimp with fried okra. We both pretty much came to the conclusion that everything was alright. Nothing bad, but nothing crazy good. Okra can be equated to Chicken Express taste, which I'm still alright with. I really enjoyed their tartar sauce here, it was bright and flavorful. Bf is already talking about which dishes he should try next, so while I don't think it was our favorite food, it seems like a great place to get variety seafood if you don't want to haul out to fish shack in Richardson. read more

With it being late July and all, people should already know that most seafood options won't taste as good. But me and my buddy were very disappointed in the food at this place. I got the Cajun platter, and speaking as a Cajun, I was almost offended by the food and the atmosphere (needs music) at this restaurant. As for the snappy trout that my buddy got, it was very rubbery and tough. Given all of these good reviews, maybe I'm missing something... but you won't see me eating here anytime soon. read more

We used to eat at the Garland location a lot. We loved it. It's been awhile though so I can no longer rate that one either way. We had never been to this Preston location. Mixed thoughts. Ceviche was nasty, skip this one. Fried cat fish was good. Hush puppies were good. Fries were lower quality, frozen out of a bag and needed to cook longer, skip these. Plenty of other side options to choose from. Tea was freshly made and very good. The service was good. Employees were friendly and accommodating. Food came out pretty fast and was hot and fresh. I would actually give it about 2.5 stars. I had the crawfish here and it is possible that I got a bad batch. I ordered 3 lbs and about 2 of those pounds were overcooked because they were rubbery. When you pinch the tail, the shell is supposed to have some pop. Most of time it crumbled in my hand. When you overcook shellfish you drain all the flavor out of them. The sign out front says it all; NOW OPEN. After quite a bit of renovation (formerly Dickie's BBQ) we have our 2d FF in Plano. Yummy. We got two entrees' split one and took over home as leftovers. Great bargain with our loyalty club points. Decor much the same as the older location in Plano think lots of fish. Food and service is done the same way placing order, pickup etc. Wish at both locations they would bring back the fried pies. So delicious. read more

They do not understand or care about people with food allergies. Emailed for an allergy menu. They said they didn't have one but could work with me once I told them my allergies. They told me to order one dish. Did not give me options, basically told me "this is what you're going to eat". Ate here with wife on a Saturday night about 6:00 PM. Pretty busy. Waited in line at the counter to order about 5 minutes. All service is self-serve: order at counter, get your own drinks, paper towels at tables for napkins, condiments on the table, including horseradish in a plastic cup (who knows who or what was digging in it before we got there). They call you up to the counter (with a handheld vibrating buzzer) when your food is ready, and hand you silverware when you pickup your order. The only service you do not have to provide yourself is bussing your table - they have busboys. I had fried catfish jambalaya, wife had shrimp salad, and chilled shrimp appetizer. Appetizer shrimp were pretty big, salad shrimp pretty small. The salad was a big one, filling a big metal bowl. My catfish jambalaya was hot, tasty. Despite the fried catfish filet laying on the wet jambalaya, it stayed crispy. They must have had a bargain on okra - LOTS of okra in the jambalaya. All food was pretty good. Not gaga great, nothing to write home about, but pretty good. Interior ambience nice, with lots of fish ornaments and pictures and things to look at. Kinda cool. Despite being almost full, it wasn't too loud. For some reason the clientele was of the senior citizen type mostly. Don't know why. Overall a pretty good place, real big menu, wide variety of selections, all looked pretty good. We'll likely return. 2nd visit yesterday the lobster rolls & ceviche. Then order desserts to go. I've had better ceviche. The surprise was how small the bread pudding was for the price but tasty. My 1st visit was the red fish basket which was great! I watched a teen eat a whole catfish. May be trying that on my next visit. The new Flying Fish on Preston in Plano is DISAPPOINTING! Our food for 3 people came out in stages. We had to go back to the counter for items that were not with our order. The shrimp salad should have been called "salad with miniature, minimal shrimp." The green bean side was horrible. The texture was rubber with no flavor. Even worse was the fried okra. Absolutely no flavor. If you crave mediocrity, you will love Flying Fish. read more
