We had the pork rib rice box which comes with so much food!! The pork ribs were tender and seasoned perfectly, the rice was done and had a garlicy flavor to it, a really nice surprise. I'm giving this place a 5 star review because I think people need to try this place. I thought it was really good. The good: I got the steamed buns (BAO) the pork belly was really good. At the same price point as most tacos in Austin I'd say these little guys are a steal. Tasty and balanced and surprisingly filling. The vibe inside is good (certainly not perfect but definitely solid. ) I thought the guy taking my order was direct on his recommendations which I always appreciate. Can't stand when I ask "what's good" and I get "it's all good" The Bad-ish: The cottage Fries where underwhelming.... They were basically basic AF tatotots with a special mayo. The location is generally good but in reality it's in a really bizarre spot on N. Lamar next to a title max. I'm over it..... but it took me a lot more times driving by before I went in. This vibe is good but literally could be SO MUCH BETTER if they took the silly boxes off the walls and the sconces on the ceiling. Just go with white walls some better greenery. yes...Yes....YESSS!!!! You know the food is good when you get your plate and look at each other, then nod your head in approval. Continue to eat your meal and look at each other, nodding. Then finish your plate, nod some more and ask if you should get a plate to go! We ordered the chicken bao, lemongrass beef bahn mi, tumeric fish plate, and a side of roasted veggies. First I'm impressed that they actually include the 'good' veggies as opposed to the sad onion, bell, pepper and broccoli you find at other restaurants. This included brussel sprouts, zucchini, cauliflower, beets and carrots roasted to carmel perfection. The chicken bao is a good child's portion. The bahn mi is your standard baguette and comes with their version of fries. The fish plate was excellent and huge! The lemongrass rice was perfectly seasoned. It came with veggies and a side salad. To top of the meal they gave us a delicious slightly tart frozen yogurt. All for under $30 bucks--impressive for the amount and quality. Well done! I'm so happy you guys are in Austin. Before I came here, I had already heard so much about it, and I was set on going in order to try their turmeric fish! Funny enough, the night I came to eat here, my friend and I were actually on our way to another place for dinner and happened to need gas, so we stopped at the gas station across the street and spontaneously decided to eat here instead. MAN. I'm glad we did. I got the turmeric fish rice dish that I had wanted so badly to try, and it was delicious, lemme tell you. At first glance, the portion doesn't look that big, but I was pretty stuffed after I was done eating. The fish was moist and so packed with flavor, and the roasted veggies on the side completely won me over. My friend got the lemongrass beef rice dish, and he said it was really good as well. I also opted for getting a pandan tea, pandan being one of my favorite flavors (it's a tropical plant), and it was so light and refreshing, I should have gotten two! Food aside, the atmosphere is great here. It's nicely decorated, and there are outlets for you to charge whatever devices you have. This place is wonderful in every way you can imagine. After all the reviews the food probably goes without saying but I will say it again WOW! The pho is wonderfully flavorful, even before the fixin's, The chicken rice box is my next favorite; the grilled vegetables by themselves I could make a meal out of but add the chicken and the fragrant rice and oh my! For drinks the ginger lemongrass tea is my go to, it has healing powers. The price for all these wonderful treats and more is VERY resonable, what you pay and what you get will not dissapoint you. I REALLY wanted to like this place more because Bahn Mi is one of my favorite foods and the people working here were so kind! This little eatery is very clean and has a modern vibe much like most recent restaurants in Austin My boyfriend and I ordered the Lemongrass Beef and Pork Belly Bahn Mi. For $8 you get a sizable sandwich and a side of seasoned hashbrowns (? not quite sure what they call them). The hasbrowns were flavorful and greasy like any delicious potato should be. My main problem was the bread was very soggy and soft. In my mind, a good crusty, chewy bread is the key to a good Bahn Mi. The Lemongrass Beef was very flavorful- it sort of was like eating the flavors of pho in a sandwich. The Pork Belly Bahn Mi was very tasty, except the last 1/3rd of the sandwich was bites of pure fat that I couldn't bring myself to finish. I found Heo Eatery to be a nice little gem of a restaurant. Small space, simple menu, but delicious. I ordered the Tumeric Fish and a Pork Bun Bao. The Bao came with a large chunk of pork belly, larger and fattier than I normally get (definitely a plus)! The Tumeric Fish was very good, flavorful and juicy, as it should be. The rice that acme with it was lightly fried and flavorful as well, but not too overpowering, making for a nice combination with the entree. The friends I went with had more mixed reactions, as two of them had the ribs, one's was delicious, the other's was a bit dry. Might just be luck of the draw with ribs if you happen to get the dry end of the rib. Other: the space is small, so the parking is limited. The A/C can be a bit weak as it blows in one direction so half of the restaurant can feel pretty toasty in the summertime. read more

I saw reviews on here and l went to it. I had to base my order off of yelp thru the picture.l order the fish and rice. It came with vegetables of squash and beets. This is Americanize Vietnamese food. It was pretty good, flavorful and l enjoyed it. Got the ice coffee and it was strong like the way it should be, l had to water it down. UPDATE to 4 stars from 5 stars: They don't seem to give the free frozen yogurt at the end of the meal anymore...but they do sell it sometimes as a special! 3 bags for $2. Also, after visiting several times, I've noticed portion size is not very consistent. One time you'll get like a BUNCH of cottage fries and another time way less. Sometimes, you'll get a lot of roasted vegetables and other times not so much. Oh, and the last time I got the Pho, the lime was really dry and the Thai basil was not super fresh. ----------------------------------------------------------------- When I saw the title, I thought they would only serve pork here so I made a mental note never to invite a certain friend here. But nope! Heo Eatery serves more than just pork. They have tumeric fish, duck confit, lemongrass beef, [insert fancy word] chicken, and of course pork belly. Your options for food: baos, banh mi, and rice. They also had a special today which was coconut curry. The employee even let us sample the broth before committing! The broth was very rich, tasted just like how Vietnamese curry should taste. It comes with Thai basil and lemon wedges on the side (though I don't know why there would be lemon..). You get a large bowl with a good amount of pho noodles (not vermicelli) and HUGE piece of chicken. My boyfriend was pretty satisfied with the meal and best part is it was under $10. I ordered the tumeric fish banh mi as recommended to me. It comes with "cottage fries" which are really flattened circular tator tots with a spicy mayo (?) dip on the side. I like how the baguette was not super grilled to harden. It was still soft enough to bite into and much how I prefer it. The fish was cooked super well, tender and with a nice char. Includes all the expected ingredients for banh mi like the pickled veggies and cilantro. I wasn't digging the cottage fries too much--seemed a bit heavy to me to go with the banh mi (also I ate a large bag of waffles fries recently, whoops). Might have preferred a nice salad. :) Service (specifically Richard) was very very nice. Everyone was upbeat and answered all of our questions such as "what's confit?" They even gave us complimentary Vietnamese yogurt which is like my CHILDHOOD. It comes in a tiny rubber-band-wrapped bag, you bite a corner off, and just nibble from the corner to eat the frozen yogurt. Vietnamese yogurt is a bit more tart than regular yogurt, but I loved it. Tasted just like home. (Update: They don't do this anymore.) Atmosphere was very casual but cool. I like their crate decorations and their illustrations on the wall! The owners of Bun Belly also own Heo Eatery. Bun Belly is more upscale and romantic, and they wanted to have a more casual, "street-style" restaurant and thus Heo Eatery is born. This place is magnificent! My wife and I made our inaugural visit last night for dinner. I'm a sucker for a place with a limited menu executed to perfection. This place is that, precisely. We started with one of their house-brewed teas. We opted for the ginger-lemongrass. Holy hell was this a pleasant surprise. It tasted as though it was sweetened with honey. Both the ginger and the lemongrass were subtle but perfectly offset the heavy sweetness. It was probably my biggest surprise of the visit. This tea was great. I can't wait to try the rest of their lineup. We got the braised beef bao. These little fluffy dudes are stuffed with beef. The bao itself was perfectly fluffy and had a nice structural integrity. Also, the house pickled veggies on top were fantastic. My wife opted for the lemongrass beef banh mi with home-fries (tater tots), while I got the turmeric fish rice box with roasted and pickled veggies (one serving of each). Her lemongrass beef bahn mi was my favorite that I've had in town. Super flavorful, bread was the perfect consistency and, again, the house pickled veggies shined. The home-fries were tasty salty, bare-bones accompaniment that fit nicely with the bold flavors of the bahn mi. My turmeric fish was AMAZING. seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I really loved the garlic and leek rice that it was served on. Tonight the roasted veggies were zucchini, squash and brussels. It seems like the veggies change based on what is fresh at the market that day. Loved the banh mi here and their pounded tater tots. The tater tots remind me of the hash brown discs at Chikfila (though different). BF got a rice dish that had the best rice ever and steak and yummy veggies, my friend got a different monster banh mi, and friend's BF got their monster pho, which looked pretty yummers. Flavors were all very good and complementary and interesting and delicious. I'm pretty sure I can consume their fragrant rice in large doses and would definitely return to do so. This place is super quaint and unassuming, but the food really is spectacular! It's a "pay at the register and grab a seat" kind of place, which I love since I have nightmares about servers talking to me while my mouth is full and choking to death on it. (I'm in therapy, don't worry.) The menu is small, but still varied enough to be interesting. The portion sizes were great - we shared a banh mi and a bun, and were plenty full. The bun was soft and fluffy, the bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the meats were perfectly spiced and cooked. The service was quick and friendly, but not overbearing. They also make lots of condiments available. Came here on Friday with a small group of friends; plenty of seating and most of the food came out relatively quickly. I got the Pho special and it was pretty good, though I wouldn't get it again as there's other places where I enjoy the pho more. My fiancé got the rib special and it was quite delicious! A couple of other people got Banh Mi (I think one got duck confit and perhaps a lemongrass pork?) and they looked really good. Owned by the same family as Pho Thaison (my favorite pho spot in atx) and bun belly, Heo Eatery is a great addition to Brentwood. When I spied that this restaurant was open I ate here not once, but TWICE in the span of 36 hours. First time around I had the chicken confit over rice & a vietnamese iced coffee. The rice was standout, really incredible. The value at $10 was incredible considering that my meal had nearly 1/2 of a chicken, 2 cups of leek and garlic rice, roasted veg, and pickled veggies! The coffee was the only disappointment. It paled in comparison to the one they serve at Pho Thaison. At $4 I expect better, and hope that they sort out the chalky aftertaste soon so I can enjoy one with my meal here. Second time around I started with the pork belly bao, and nearly cried. Order this, just order this and thank me later. The braised beef bao is also good, but the pork belly was standout. I then had the bahn mi with duck, very tasty! My boyfriend's pho was also delicious, in line with that offered at Pho Thaison. Overall, this place is great. I am so happy to have this joint in my neighborhood. I came here for lunch with a friend and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. Then came the lemongrass beef rice box, which wasn't as good as the baos. Still good! I thought the beef was a tad dry and the fried rice concoction was a lacking in flavor a tad. The pickled veggies and roasted veggies were spot on though. Next time, I'm totally getting the tumeric fish. That thing looked really good. Maybe I'll also get a banh mi too--can't pass up on that. I also had the Thai tea, which was pretty lackluster. I got to try some ginger lemongrass tea (on the house), which packed a punch. I wouldn't say I disliked it but it was interesting. I'm always on the search for a great banh mi, found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try tonight. Boa Buns- Brisket&Pork Belly we're both delish. Roasted Veggies- RIDICULOUSLY good! Banh Mi- Beef lemon grass.... fell short what I expected. The beef was slightly dried out despite the roll being a tad soggy(not a lot...just a tad) veggies were fresh and crisp. It came with "cottage fries", they were hash browns to me...All and all it was an okay sandwich. Vietnamese Ice Coffee- I love some Vietnamese ice coffee but this one wasn't for me. I would've like for the pork and duck to have been prepared differently. They both tasted the same other than the fact they were different meats. The pickled veggies needed to be pickled longer. The store front sign caught my eye as I drove by, Heo Eatery and an image of a pig. Heo means "pig" in Vietnamese (pronounced like "hell" soft L). Always down for Vietnamese food, so I dropped by later in the afternoon to try it out. The interior is clean, modern, outlets and USB ports everywhere. I was warmly greeted at the counter and ordered tumeric fish over rice with an ice coffee. Food came out in about 10-15 mins, nice presentation, unfortunately the only utensils available were these flimsy plastic knife, fork, and spoons. The rice was cooked with leek and garlic, that's a new one for me, I wasn't able to taste much of a difference compared to white rice. May have been from the overpowering flavor from the tumeric fish. Fish was good, roasted veggies were fantastic albeit a bit oily, and the pickled veggies were excellent. Vietnamese ice coffee was pre mixed, very strong, you might want to let dilute itself in ice. Had the lemongrass beef banh mi on another day and it was disappointing. For an $8 sandwich it was pretty small. There wasn't enough pickled carrots and daikon to balance the meat out. Nothing remarkable about the lemongrass beef, the bread was standard and oven toasted, the sandwich came with a side of tater tots which was a bit strange. Parking is limited in the front, you might have to back out into traffic, there's a lot in the back that might be the better choice. Clean unisex bathroom, plenty of tables, good Vietnamese food. Just finished a lunch there. My co-worker and I got the Pork Belly Banh Mi with vietnamese ice coffee and the Beef Lemongrass rice box. Setting of the place: This is a order at the front and your food will be served to your table type of setting. There aren't any descriptions of the dishes they offer so READ UP ON YELP REVIEWS ~! Pork Belly Banh Mi, In my opinion was way to sweet. They use the same kind of sauce that's found in the usual Peking Duck dishes (the brown sweet sauce). The meat is smothered in the sauce and it came with cucumbers and jalapenos and I believe carrots. I had to use a napkin to wipe off some of the sauce in order to eat the sandwich. I would rate this a 2 simply because the flavor was too overwhelming that it took away from the flavor of the pork belly. One star is added because the bread was fresh and crispy, that was the best part. Beef Lemongrass rice box, in my opinion the best part was truly the veggies on the side. A good combo of seasonal veggies consisting of cauliflower, zucchini, squash, and carrots(I think). The lemongrass flavor is predominant. The overall rice, beef and lemongrass part of the dish I would rate a 3. It's not AMAZING but it's not bad for the combo deal and it's quite filling. Iced Vietnamese coffee, I wouldn't recommend. This isn't the traditional style that I'm use to where it's drip coffee with condensed milk. This however had more of a mocha flavor, as if dark chocolate was used. I couldn't really taste the coffee flavor instead it's a creamy dark chocolate with either condensed/ 2% milk. This drink would be great for mocha lovers, not really for the people who like strong dark coffee. read more

The reviews on yelp were great so I had to give it a try! So glad I did. Cute, clean, modern, trendy decor. About 15 tables When I first walked in I believe the owner was ringing people up and I asked him if there was an appetizer I could try while I wait for my friend to arrive. He suggested a bao, I chose the braised beef and also got the Vietnamese iced coffee! Both were outstanding! Owner left and a very friendly African American man took over the register. He suggested the lemongrass beef bento box. It was also outstanding, I did like the braised beef in the bao better than the lemon grass beef mostly just the texture and next time I go I think all ask for the banh mi but with the braided beef and a side of the roasted veggies and a side of the rice, cause both were amazing! Hope they will accommodate! The spice and flavor or everything was on point! I was absolutely blown away by this place. I went to the DPS to update my license and it said I had a 1.5 hour wait, so I figured I'd grab lunch while I wait. We really we're just looking for a quick close bite, but didn't expect it to be this awesome. The rice plate is $10. At first I thought that was a little steep.
