Came with the family to this giant Asian shopping center that has a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese related businesses and restaurants. I read the Yelp reviews before coming (more on this later). I only had the traditional bahn mi with three kinds of pork, including sliced and pate. The bahn mi was as it should be, a thinner sandwich bread, similar to a baguette but skinnier, with lightly pickled daikon and carrot, a cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeno. It was delicious. Which brings me to the Yelp reviews. A number of them are complaining that the bread isn't as large as a traditional French baguette. This is because a bahn mi doesn't traditionally have a larger sized baguette. A traditional bahn mi bread is inspired by a French baguette, because the sandwich is a fusion of French and Vietnamese cuisines, since the French colonized Vietnam and influenced some of their food and architecture. But it isn't traditionally as thick as a baguette, and is made of a mix of wheat and rice flour. The owner happened to be typing on his laptop and I talked to him about the bread. It is made in house, by him. It is made thin, but doesn't have rice flour. I was frankly grateful that it wasn't a normal sized baguette, because that would have scraped up my mouth and required having a lot more toppings to balance the ingredients with the bread, making a much larger sandwich than I would want to eat. In the US, a restaurant owner making a bahn mi often faces a choice between making their own bread in house, having a local bakery make it for them, or buying from a bakery that already makes French baguettes. So what people are used to eating isn't authentic, but is a cost-saving tradeoff made by using a regular French baguette, usually the cheapest of the options. So before you complain about the shape and size of the bread, please understand that this is closer to the real deal than you are used to and not a defect of the bahn mi bread served in this restaurant, despite being named "Baguette House". The rest of the sandwich is open to criticism and I agree with some that the pickled veg could have used more vinegar, but the bread was well-made, crunchy crispy outside, with a soft interior. 01/2026 My wife and I came to Baguette House for the first time on a Sunday Afternoon, around 3 PM. The restaurant is found in a large plaza, plenty of parking. There are a handful of tables inside, probably about 5 or so, not very spacious for a larger party. When we arrived it wasn't busy, but it was great to see a lot of traffic picking up to-go orders throughout our time there. The staff member who took our order at their counter was nice and took care of us quickly. I ordered the "Grilled Beef Baguette"--which included daikon, carrot, jalapeño, cilantro and house mayo. It's served on a 10 inch baguette. We were very impressed and it was very good!! True to its size as well--good for sharing if you're splitting it in half, or good for 1 if you're hungry!! My friends and I came here on a Sunday morning so it was pretty busy but we were able to find a table in the back corner. My friends ordered beef bahn mi's with sugar cane juice and I got the house special combination bahn mi with cafe sua da (vietnamese coffee). The sugar cane juice was refreshing and the cafe sua da had that nice roasted flavor and was strong- it helped me through the drive back to HTX. Speaking of HTX, I'm pretty spoiled with the Vietnamese food there but the bahn mi here is decent! A Vietnamese sandwich shop in the MT Market Plaza. One thing I want to point out is that their prices are very similar to Houston, which makes it more appealing to me in the first place. It is a small bakery/restaurant so sitting can be hard to get at times. I can see that they make their own bread as I was waiting for my order. The bread is slightly smaller than what I am used to from Houston, but the texture was also on point. I got the #6, which is the grilled pork and a sugarcane juice. The wait can be a bit long as most things are made or put together after you order. Ugh. There is no coming back from this ick. Many years ago, Baguette House was my favorite spot for banh mi. Life happened and they fell out of my rotation, but we were in the area yesterday and I was so excited to introduce my young daughter to their sandwiches. Since she is ill-equipped for the complexities of banh mi, I ordered her the ham and cheese croissant. She took a bite, then immediately spit it out and complained about it tasting "like dirt." I thought she was just being a picky kid so I didn't investigate further. Instead, I packaged it up and took it home to eat later. Less than 24 hours later, I just tried to eat the sandwich and the ham tasted absolutely putrid. I, too, instantly spit it out. The ham was a gray color and smelled beyond sour. I am so glad my daughter also spit it out or she almost certainly would have gotten food poisoning. I wish I'd considered the possibility of spoiled meat while we were dining in so I could have escalated this issue to the staff. It's beyond concerning that anyone would put such obviously unsafe meat on a sandwich. For anyone thinking that the ham could have gone bad after I left, the sandwich went straight into a refrigerator within 30 minutes of preparation and was consumed within 24 hours. I cannot in good conscience ever eat here again, nor can I recommend it for anyone else. Very sad decline from what was once a favorite. read more

Came here with a coworker to pick up some food for lunch and got the grilled pork bahn mi sandwich. The bread was good and the meat was tender but I wish the veggies were pickled more. They didn't have much flavor to them and I'm used to bahn mi sandwiches having some really good crunchy pickled veggies in it. The service was great, very fast and the staff was nice. It's not the best baguette I've had- their vietnamese mayo doesn't stand out as this other place Ba Le in Philly, and the bread could be fluffier and meat less dry. I went out of my way to try to get a house because let's face it I love bread and I love baguettes. I was really excited because I haven't had bahn mi in a long time. I heard that they make their big expression house hence the name of the restaurant but unfortunately I don't think this was the case as the sandwich I ordered was mids at best. My favorite banh mi shop in Austin. Not only is it affordable, but it is delicious as well. You're not going to find a place that will sell you a banh mi under $7 anymore. I've been coming here the past few months and the food is always consistent and I never really have any complaints. Since I know from personal experience with deliveries from various restaurants how deliveries can go, I was very explicit about my order. The grilled pork spring rolls were delicious and incredibly large .. HUGE! I mean, OMG! I could not finish the order. That alone earns 5 stars!!! No peanut or duck sauce, but I'm still pleased with what they did include, which was hoison sauce and chili. As for the (no ice) Iced Vietnamese Coffee ... two reasons I said no ice: I like a strong flavor, so I did not want it diluted with melting ice, and, more importantly, I wanted more coffee since I was not paying for ice cubes. Coffee flavor earned 3 stars. I was ripped off on the coffee! I paid too much for a few sips. Customer service: Failure to provide me with what I ordered and paid for: 1.5 stars. From its perfect ratio of meat to fresh veggies, to the rich Vietnamese mayo and liver pâté spread inside, I find myself craving it almost weekly. Food was good the handrolls or spring rolls have good quality meat in them with lots of vegetables. One downgrade would be the ban mi itself was a little pricey on the sandwich with what you go and the meat you don't really get the best amount of meat for the price you pay. A close to perfect day for me involves a Vietnamese sandwich and coffee. Baguette House has a good bit of both, along with a number of other awesome baked items. Situated on the corner of a strip mall, I was ready to dive right in with all that this place had to offer. Like many cafes, Baguette House has just enough seating for a small groups to convene. Since the front door opens to a narrow space, the bottlenecking hazard can get nutty during their busy hours. Thankfully there is a large enough parking lot to accommodate the demand, as well as a robust staff. Their ca phe sua da is nice and sweet, if not a tad potent with the coffee. I am always hoping a little more liquid and less ice, but they fill it to the brim here. Their banh mi is really solid as the bread is baked in house. Every Viet sandwich is under $5, with the exception of the cajun shrimp. ($6.50) The paté chaud ($2) is really good and the bánh bao is a tad on the dry side. They have a few miscellaneous things here, such as croissants and Americanized sandwiches that feature deli meats like smoked turkey and pastrami. They have Vietnamese beef stew (bo kho) here and even started serving Hainanese chicken (com ga hai nam). I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to want to the latter, especially in a place that is more cafe oriented than a food stall setup. Service seems amiable, but they are a tad on the slow side. Some cafes are pretty automatic with coffee drinks, but I know they're rocking the drip and thus everything is made to order. While it might not be my go-to spot in Austin, I'm comforted in knowing this place has most of everything I could want in a Vietnamese coffee shop. read more
