I've been coming to Fresh Tofu Food To Go for years and it's still one of my favorites in Austin. My go-to drink is the Nước Tắc (kumquat juice). It tastes just like the ones I get in Vietnam, super refreshing and not too sweet. They also make fresh tofu lol so I always pick up the fresh tofu dessert with syrup. It doesn't come with ginger, but you can buy some from the market next door and add it yourself. It's perfect when I'm craving silken tofu dessert. If I'm too lazy to cook, I'll stock up for the week because everything tastes homemade and comforting. My favorites are the canh chua (sweet and sour tamarind soup) and cá kho (braised fish). The bánh tiêu (fried hollow donut) is also spot on and reminds me of the ones sold on the street in Vietnam. Their bún bò Huế (spicy beef noodle soup) isn't exactly like my family's since we're from Huế, but I appreciate that they include pork hock, which is my favorite part. Most places skip that so I love that they keep it more traditional here. I do wish they included pork blood too, but it still hits the spot when I'm craving it and need a quick fix. It's always quiet, the service is fast, they accept cards, and parking is easy since it's in the MT Supermarket shopping center. Definitely worth checking out.

We were looking for bánh bèo and there were very few restaurants that showed up. We had never been here before, so we decided to try it. Inside is like a typical Vietnamese to-go place and seemed family-owned. The older lady and man were nice and seemed to have built a connection with their patrons. We did question their sanitary standards as the tissue box had enough dust to look like it had just been pulled out of storage, and there were flies inside the store trying to land on our food. I would say the food is good if you eat it fresh or heat it up later, but not if you're eating on the go. We ordered from their "hot" bar and they didn't heat up the food, so it was borderline warm/room temperature. For the bánh bèo and bánh ướt, they made it fresh so it was yummy and warm! You order and pay before you grab a table if you're dining in. Dai Huu Ky ($2): This didn't look like your typical dai huu ky you get with cơm dĩa. It was long like a tube and looked to be filled with vegetables instead of shrimp. It was soggy and just okay since it wasn't heated up. If we could air fry it, I think it would be so much better! Tôm Rang ($10): Not heated up but warm enough. I'm not a fan of shelled shrimp dishes, but this was good, especially the flavors. Since we were dining in, they gave us a huge bowl of rice to eat it with. Chả Chiên Các Loại ($2.25): Looks like a round fish cake. It wasn't bad; just wish it was a bit warmer. Bánh Bèo ($5): This is what we came for, but we didn't see it on the menu so we asked the lady cashier if they still sold it. She said they did but had run out, so we would have to wait 5 minutes for them to make it. That was fine with us, and it was pretty solid. The mung bean had a bit of crunch to it, which is different from the usual soft and mushy version I'm used to. The lady told us that the plate she gave us was actually 2 portions, so now we have a point of reference. Bánh ướt Chả Lụa ($11): Yum--this was probably my favorite dish of the meal. The chả lụa was delicious! The bánh ướt was soft but didn't have as much meat as I would like. Their nước chấm is very good though and brings the flavors together into a cohesive dish. Sugarcane / Nước Mía ($5.50 Small): This was okay. The drink was a bit warm when we got it so it wasn't as refreshing as I was hoping it would be. Salted Coffee / Cà Phê Muối ($5): I read reviews saying this was good here, but I thought it was just okay. The coffee wasn't as strong as I like it to be, so it leaned heavier on the salted cream flavor.
A small hole-in-the wall restaurant that offers a variety of Vietnamese food. I usually enjoy their #12 Buon Cuon. The noodles are thinly made and pairs really well with the meat. Their Viet coffee is also perfect, very strong. One sip is enough to wake you up. It's also reasonably priced if you pay with cash, at least a dollar cheaper compared to other places for Viet coffee. They also offer sesame balls and fried bread. Both are good snacks and would recommend. Service is relatively quick. There's plenty of parking since it's located in a strip plaza.

Flavorful broth and a lot of noodles lol! The ribs are quite tender and the moc tasted nice. Cha lua however, are a little soft. I love that they have rau muong as a side. Most restaurants would just do cabbage. - Bun rieu: it's pretty legit broth. you can tell by looking at it. Tofu is great considering their name :) The rieu, however, tastes like tofu and eggs lol but nonetheless, a plus compared to other restaurants I have tried. - Ca phe muoi: it's good. Very strong, the salt blends well with the drink. - Tac Xi Muoi: Super refreshing! - Yogurt with Black sticky rice: You can find in the fridge. Please try it. It's so good... and tastes like home to me They have 4 small tables for eating inside and a lot of other snacks and dishes that you can take home to have with rice. Pretty low key, perfect to stop by after grocery shopping at MT. Quick and straight forward service, don't expect anything much. If you pay in cash, you will get some discounts so make sure you mention that!
For a small mom-and-pop shop, it was just okay. The place could definitely be a bit cleaner since there were boxes scattered around. Parking was easy to find, which was a plus. The food itself was just average for me--we tried a noodle bowl along with a few other items. The highlight, though, was how friendly the mom was. She really made the experience warmer.
Uncle Phan serves delicious Vietnamese snacks and quick meals!!! Bun rieu flavor is quite solid compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. However the rieu is in a block instead of spreading out thinly and floating on top. The rieu block is not meaty, tastes like mainly eggs and tofu. Bun moc has clear broth, great amount of meat, very comforting. Each bowl of noodle soup is paired with a plate of morning glory, bean sprouts, lettuce, lime wedges, and a small bowl of shrimp paste and fresh ground chili. They also have a great variety of snacks, such as: banh bao (pork bun), banh it, banh gio, banh beo, banh bot loc, banh cam, banh tieu, you name it. One of my favorites is yogurt with purple rice - creamy, refreshing, and chewy rice with a perfect amount of sweetness. They also serve many different drinks, such as kumquat with salted plum, Vietnamese coffee, salted coffee, sugar cane juice (it's just alright), etc. The store is small with 5 tables for dine-in. Pay with cash and you will get some discounts ;) If you want to explore some Vietnamese snacks or noodle soups, visit Uncle Phan and give them a try.
Okay, I've been coming here to get the hot silken tofu dessert once a week. This is the only place in all of Austin you can get this dessert. We add tapioca pearls to replicate the Filipino dessert "taho" and to sweeten our bites. I occasionally get the premade deli items too but finally had a chance to sit down and order an entree. They recently got a new store front sign. It says UNCLE PHAN'S FRESH TOFU. I didn't get her name but the owner is a sweet little lady who cooks, prepares, and rings people up. I watched her prepare some patron's dishes at their table because the way they were eating it wasn't as she intended them to! It was pretty cool to see, she's like an aunt/mother figure. Anyway, I order the bun rieu (tomato and crab/pork noodle soup) because it seems to be very popular amongst the patrons. It is delicious, I'm not a huge fan of the steamed pork and crab mix in solid block form but the broth was immaculate. There are blood cubes which is a plus for me! Other parties ordered some off menu items.. Very intriguing. And bun Bo hue, (lemongrass beef noodle) one of my favorite dishes, seems to be popular as well. I will have to try this on my next dine in opportunity. In total, I ordered one large tofu, one sesame ball, and one bun rieu entree for $17. Over all, uncle phans is a solid staple to the Chinatown plaza. Check them out!
I'm very glad a Vietnamese friend of ours who could speak Vietnamese was able to introduce us to this restaurant. It was very helpful that she could speak to the lady behind the counter to ask questions about the different menu items. The menu is extremely small and it looks like it's mostly a takeout business but they do have several tables in there which we enjoyed a meal at. I had the steamed rice rolls, something I would have never ordered before because I didn't really know how it would look or what was in it until our friend translated for us. Very happy we tried it, we will definitely be back there to try some other items as well. The meal consisted mainly of several steamed rice rolls with a sliver of meat in each of them The dipping sauce was so good it just made it all come together really well. There was a little bit of green condiments on the side, bean sprouts, spearmint possibly, and it was delicious.

The only place I could find banh tieu! They have banh cam, banh day, and a bunch of other fried and pre made foods. Service is fast, they have one register but two people taking your order and payment. $14 for 2 banh tieu, $2 banh cam, 1 banh day and 1 goi cuon read more
A very good to-go food place. You can also dine in. They have an extensive selection of noodle soup. It's not a fancy or nice restaurant, just a hole in the wall. The owner is very nice and the food is great. I'll go back to support this small business again in the future. read more

Small place with 5 or so tables. Banh canh - soup with thick rice noodles, delicious broth, nice little pieces of pork skin. Comes with spicy red chili, which I like. Banh cuon - kind like egg rolls but instead the cover is soft rice noodle. This was very delicious. read more

Grabbing a morning bite here is such a treat and a trip back to nostalgia. All of the food you see is fresh. You especially want to grab their freshly made Banh cuon (minced pork rice rolls with fish sauce) because they do sell out later in the day. The sesame balls and Banh tieu, sesame hollow bread, is so good. Viet donuts/hollow bread are so much healthier and just as addictive. Oddly their tofu is not displayed, but with tofu being in their name, you'll want to try that. I have ordered their ginger silken tofu, which comes out hot and enjoyed as a dessert. I've been wanting to try this place after seeing all the positive reviews for it. I got there only a few minutes after they opened, but there were already a bunch of people inside eating and I waited a few minutes in line to order. I can definitely see why others recommend coming early to make sure they don't sell out. If you struggle to pronounce Vietnamese like me, you can order using the menu above the register which has numbers (and pictures!) next to each dish. They do accept Apple Pay and card if you don't carry cash. There were so many good looking options that I was a little overwhelmed, but I ended up ordering: - Banh cuon (4/5): These are rice rolls with ground pork filling, served with sides of pork sausage, cucumbers, bean sprouts, mint leaves, and nuoc cham (dipping sauce). I am a huge fan of rice rolls, so I really enjoyed these, but I do wish the filling was distributed a little more evenly. Some pieces were plain rice rolls with no meat at all. Overall, the dish was super fresh and way more filling than I expected, I was barely able to finish the whole portion! - Egg rolls (4/5): I got some egg rolls from the display they have next to the register. The filling has a really nice flavor, but the wrappers were a bit soggy. If you're planning on eating these right away, you should know that they're lukewarm when you get them from the shop, but if you pop them in an air fryer for a few minutes they get nice and crispy! I think this is a great option for a quick lunch or a snack! I'll definitely be back to try their soups and the tofu dessert. read more

Looks like your typical Vietnamese tofu shop and we were thirsty for some sugar cane juice? So we stopped by. The sugar cane juice was a bit unripe and had a green flavor, but was still thirst quenching. We ordered some tofu and some sort of roll to snack on as an appetizer, but both were disturbingly cold (with the roll tasting a bit sour and spoiled). It seems that their "heat lamps" above the hot foods aren't really heat lamp bulbs, but normal (and I may have even spotted an LED) light bulbs, which serve no purpose other than lighting up the food. This seems like quite the food safety risk. We also got the banh cuon, which was just ok and the banh canh which wasn't that good and was also missing the fish cakes that's listed to come in the soup. read more

This is my cantine when I need authentic confort vietnamese food. Auntie serves a few dishes only but you won't find there in any other vietnamese places : bánh cuốn, bún riêu, bánh canh, bún đậu mắm tôm Are among my top choices. She also has food to go if you are looking for a quick solution for dinner: egg rolls, bánh giò, cánh gà kho... She makes homemade Tofu, homemade soy milk and even has sugar cane juice. For tết, this is the place to get your must have food items. This place is a gem, I hope they never close! read more
I haven't read through the reviews. I don't care what they say and I don't give a damn about the ignorant 3.5 star overall rating this place has right now. This place has amazing food. They have a menu written out on a whiteboard, but the really good stuff is not on it. I hope they get a full menu posted, but for now, you basically need to know Vietnamese and/or know Vietnamese food in order to access the good stuff. I'm lucky in that I know Vietnamese food, only because my dad is Vietnamese and I have been spoiled by aunts who cook amazing homemade Vietnamese comfort food so I know what to ask for. (Also, I came here with one of those aunts. She makes literally the best Vietnamese food I've ever seen and tasted, and I've had the privilege of eating it all for free on an almost weekly basis for most of my life.) She ordered everything for us in Vietnamese and ofc knowing the native language gets you good service (iykyk). It's got a hole in the wall family asian restaurant vibe. I really will not go out to eat at Vietnamese restaurants in the city bc I can eat it for free with family. If I ever had an extreme craving that family can't fill at that moment, I'll go here. We got bun rieu, banh cuon, and mi vit tiem. All v good!! read more
I went into Fresh Tofu yesterday because I had a craving for fried fish. I admit that I was quite overwhelmed with the selection of items at the counter because I'm not quite familiar with all the items they have to offer because they have alot. I chose a whole fried fish ($7) and a chicken egg roll ($1). I ate the chicken egg roll as I drove away and it was super crispy and delicious. I had wish I purchased a few more. I'm not quite sure what type of fish this was but it was tasty. The meat was nice and flaky and there weren't a whole lot of bones. It paired well with the fish sauce I was provided. read more

Finally found a place in Austin that serves bun rieu and it did not disappoint! Great flavor. The banh cuon and banh beo were also great. Very authentic Vietnamese food. Felt like home! They have so much more food there I haven't tried (canh chia, ca kho tho, etc.). Will be back to try more! read more

One of my favorite Vietnamese spots in town! I come here for the Vietnamese snacks, pork based noodles soups and fresh made tofu. My go to noodle dish here is their Bun Rieu. There is enough balance in the pork and crab flavor, add shrimp paste if you want a little more funk. Love it with extra chili and lime. I also like to get their tapioca dumplings, Vietnamese donut, fish cakes, and tofu. Just really like most of their offerings. Sometimes they have specials like duck noodle soup. read more

Here's the thing about this place. You have to just be in the know. Their menu doesn't list all the things that they're known for. This place is so authentic, so deeply Vietnamese that there are some items that I don't even remember the dishes until one day I'm watching Vietnamese travel videos at 2am Bánh Bt Lc is not an easy name to remember unless you know what it means. Banh loosely means a roll of dough of some sort. Like rice rolls, cake, bread, udon noodles, pancake. "Loosely", I said. Bt means flour or powder (again referring to the dough) and Lc means "clear". The clear part is made of tapioca starch and water so it's gluten free. It's pretty easy to make, and I'll do a recipe on this later but this dish is one of my favorite things to eat amongst all foods. It's not entirely for everyone because out of pure texture it can be unfamiliar but flavor wise, it's caramelized fish sauce sweet and salty. The "banh" is kinda like dimsum Har How but chewier. The best ones are made with a bit of the natural shrimp head mustard inside. Shrimp, ground pork, green onions. The "banh" part is chewy and flavorless. Their special of the moment right now is canh bun and bun rieu and they are both amazing! I wouldn't have known if my friend didn't tell me about it because I don't come by the Chinatown shopping center often. I hope they keep these items permanently on the menu because the bun rieu broth is right on for my taste! I cannot speak for the other items since I haven't tried, but if you're in the mood for bun rieu, best in Austin right now! read more

Fresh tofu is what I would embody as authentic Vietnamese. Have I been to Vietnam? No. Am I Vietnamese? No. But my friends sure are and totally attest to this place. As a foreigner I struggled with the menu because they don't really have one. When you walk in, there's a lot of grab and go items and hot plate items but no actually noodle soup menu. My friend recommended we try either the bo bun or the hu tieu. I got their banh cuon for 9 dollars, one of the grab and go items with cold rice noodles and fish sauce and Vietnamese ham. Thoughts? I did really like the taste of the banh cuon but I kinda wish I knew how long it was sitting out on the counter but it was actually really good. The bo bun was delicious and very flavorful, it was jammed pack with meatballs, beef bones and rice noodles. Fresh tofu is like the typical hole in the wall restaurant. There are only 4 small table in the store and a counter for take out and ready-made food. Bun rieu is vermicelli with tomato broth. Very flavorful. I am not sure if there is river crab in it. But overall both bun rieu and the chicken dish are solid. The ac is not strong in the store, so have bun rieu to go might be a better choice. 4.5/5 read more

Service is so so but the food are delicious. Love everything so far. The owners are super nice. Portion is decent. Sugarcane juice is delicious and refreshing. read more
