From the moment you walk in, this establishment screams genuine hospitality and you feel welcome. Then you dine. From the RED BEETS SKORDALIA to the fresh made lemonade to the gyros and more complex entrees like the fresh broiled porgie or Shrimp, Spinach and Orzo, satisfaction is guaranteed. The best problem to have at a restaurant is too many good choices and I have been known to order more than one entree so that I could enjoy Hellenic for a couple days after I've been there. Only one word of warning before eating at Hellenic: it may ruin other Greek establishments for you because none other comes close. And we drive almost an hour to enjoy. read more

Came here for the rave reviews with 2 little girls. The food was HORRENDOUS. The worst Greek food I have ever tasted, The Greek Salad was just lettuce with feta and a few huge pieces of feta. The dressing was OILY and gross. The kids ordered chicken fingers that you have to spend another 3.50 (came to 13.50 per child) to get French fries with it. The chicken fingers were like overdone rawhide. The fries were the only edible thing of the night.(excellent steak fries) The Souvlaki had wet plum tomatoes all over it with no lettuce and the chicken was huge chunks with grizzle on it. We literally ate again when we got back to the hotel b/c we were still hungry. We left that gross food there and had to give them 60.00 for it. What a travesty. I felt robbed. I don't know what the fuss is all about but this place is somewhere I would NEVER go to again. And it's too expensive one adult and 2 kids 60.00? read more

So. Damn. Good. Been going here all my life, will never stop. One of my favorite restaurants i've ever been to.

This place used to be a good. We had an embarrassingly terrible lunch the other day. The waitress was very nice, but they must have been missing part of their kitchen staff, like their chef. The octopus was tough, worst we have ever had. The greek salad--any diner in NJ can make a great greek salad. It was basically some soggy iceberg lettuce that looks like it was cut the night before with a few tomatoes slices and olives thrown in. read more

I guess having good Greek food at my fingertips growing up in Astoria, NY makes this place a sad expensive excuse for a restaurant. 2 things we tried to order they were out of. They br8ng you a plate of tzatziki with 1 pita but enough tzatziki for 5 pitas, but when you ask for more they charge you $2.00 each pita! Settled om a souvlaki sandwich $11.00 that was cold and again had so much tsatziki on it you cpuld not eat it as a sandwich and the meat was cold and tough. In Astoria you get a whole platter with feta a small salad etc for $8.50. More than double what the rip off artists here charge. I used to come here as a kid and its sad what it has become. The flies and mosquitoes add to the ambiance. Never again! Horrible! read more

My boyfriend's family loves this place, and I have always wondered why. I have been there several times over the past few years, always on a weekend, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is average, at best, and the service is slow and sloppy. It is a nice clean place, though. read more

I love this place. order the beets and get the fried calamari then eat some asparagus all wonderful

I have been going there for 2 years but the last 3,times were horrible the good was good but the service was awful the waiters and waitress were horrible they were summer help and not trained right read more

They kept us waiting to sit, not one person greeted us or offered to sit us. After I asked a young lady sat us and two minutes later another one told us we had to wait 20 minutes to sit, the kitchen was backed up. Meanwhile there were empty tables everywhere. Felt like I smelled bad! Been eating here for over twenty years, but never again!!!! read more

the absolute best skordalia ever!!!!!! have it with zucchini, beets and pita. superb!!!! also their chicken souvlaki wrapped in pita is great.( i usually don't get the tzadiki but for those who love it, it is fine. we travel from east hampton, taking two ferries. the trip is always worth it. read more

My 2 stars is only for the gyro I ordered to go. I wasn't crazy about it. Large portion, didn't like the sliced onions, very chunky tomato, the meat didn't have much flavor. All I can say is that the gyros in Bayville taste so much better, but if you don't have anything to compare, it's just fine. In a side note, they didn't give me napkins to go so I had a real mess on my hands. read more

I really love this place for years and it always has had great food. Something seemed off during our last visit for dinner though. Service was poor, portions like the fried calimari app were smaller, taste was off. The feta and olive appetizer included exactly 3 kalamata olives for two people to share. I have never paid for a cheese and olive plate that included only 3 olives. We and the table next to us felt abandoned outside waiting for the check while our waiter cleaned windows. A cup of coffee would have been nice but waiting for the waiter to come around again would be too painful. I am hoping this was an off night and not a trend. We will be back for sure hoping for a return to past greatness. read more

The food was ok small portions for a Greek place. The prices are insane. Never seen such expensive prices at a mom and pop shop like this.

Stopped by on the way to the ferry to pick up food. Very expensive for what we got. 6 stuffed grape leaves for 10 dollars. A greek salad that was swimming in dressing with wilted lettuce and tomatoes that were on the verge. I feel that we got old salad because we were on our way to the ferry. Spinach pie was good but small but the baklava was great. My husband eats here frequently when visiting the island so we were disappointed read more

Nice location with an outdoor seating area. Good service. However, sadly, that was one of the most unsatisfying meals I've had in a long time. We ordered a "small plate" of 3 cold appetizers. We got the halumi cheese, the eggplant salad and the hummus. The eggplant and halumi were ok but the hummus was tasteless. For $15.95, I got 2 triangles of pita with grilled halumi on top, 2 triangles of pita with eggplant on top and a tiny portion of hummus. You have to pay extra for pita bread other than the 4 triangles mentioned when you order the cold apps. For the entree, I ordered a lamb sandwich. When the plate arrived, it had tons of juice on it which made the sandwich soggy. That made me suspect that the lamb was frozen. Upon tasting it, I suspect I'm correct since it was not tasty at all. Overall, pricey for what I got and not good. My bill was $40 plus tip for lunch. Definitely not planning on going back again. read more

The food is pretty solid, but the outdoor dining and experience is so lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lemonade is as good as everyone says. The cauliflower croquettes were fabulous, especially with the garlicky sauce. I had the greek salad with falafel and it was fine, but really nothing extraordinary. Nice baklava. This a great pick for a summer night. read more

We came in here for a quick bite and ordered the Gyro sandwich which was fantastic but I really thought that asking 12$ for just a sandwich was ridiculously expensive. That's about 5$ more than my favorite place in Hoboken would charge. As much as I enjoyed my sandwich, I would not be back. read more

My daughter and I go out to Greenport and East Marion a few times a year and this is the first time we stopped to eat here. We loved the food and the service. We had the hummus appetizer w/pita, which was delicious. We both had salads, mine with chicken and hers with falafel. We also shared the roasted lemon potatoes. Everything was very good and the service was excellent. We'll be back :) read more

Well it was ok. Nothing as great as the reviews. Maybe it was an off day for the cooks and service? The waitress I had seemed to be in a very bad mood. It's not my fault you dont want to be at work..oh and not to mention she was on her phone while not only myself by other tables in the restaurant needed assistance. Me and my father started with the Spinach Pie, it tasted ok, it had a weird after taste about it, we left it half eaten. I ordered a classic gyro. Everything about it was good, except the tomatos were so soggy. My dad had a swordfish burger, which he said was alright. We also shared a large greek salad, which was drenched in dressing. Forgot to ask for it on the side. It's on the pricey side. I hate complaining about food, and eat what I get, but I'm willing to give this place another try if I head back out to the East End. Again, maybe it was an off day? read more

Very good Greek restaurant and the best food we had during our weeklong stay in the area. Gyros were very good and all the meals were large portions. Outdoor seating is available. Service was great. A bit on the pricey side, especially for a lunch, but overall a good experience. read more

One word: Terrible. The food was lousy and service was painfully slow (& surly). There are flies everywhere, so we were constantly (& uselessly) swatting them away. I ordered a greek salad and it took more than 45 minutes to arrive at our table. Keep in mind, this is a greek restaurant and the greek salad is lettuce, tomato, feta and olives -- all of which are presumably on the kitchen counter! I've been visiting the north fork for years and never visited Hellenic as we'd been told it was awful. It lived up to that reputation. I'm very sorry we went there for lunch and we will not go back. read more

Food is consistently good. The whole broiled fluke is amazing. Worth the dining experience.

Well, a nice surprise! I used to come here 10-15 years ago, and only now and then because I felt their prices were a little high and their service was glacier-slow. However, I came back with my daughter yesterday for lunch, and the service was really quite peppy. I was a little disappointed in the lemonade -- one of their former draws -- because it was light on the froth and seemed rather run-of-the-mill. However, the skordalia, served with fried zucchini and eggplant slices, and pita, was as yummy as I remembered it, and their Greek salad with chicken (on mine) and falafel (hers) was wonderfully fresh with beautiful, ripe red tomato slices. Very nice server. We'll be back. read more

Great hidden gem in wine country! Stopped after the ferry from Boston. Very good! Service could have been a little quicker since we were the only ones there but it is off season! read more

Food was terrible. The worst Greek food, I've ever had. The avgolemono soup was not authentic. No vegetables and no chicken. More importantly, it was thickened with flour, instead of the authentic way with egg and lemon. Not a place I would order from again. We also ordered some other dishes and they were terrible. Disappointing. read more

The best restaurant on the North Fork. We've been coming here since it opened. The Lemonade is world famous and rightfully so. The whole bronzino had flavor, not just broiled like other places. The calamari was cooked perfectly starting with high quality squid, super tender but with a crisp crust. Octopus is also done just right. You can't go wrong with the Greek Salad- from the local farmstand down the road to your table ingredients. Oysterponds tomatoes are out of this world. We ended with the homemade Baklava Ice Cream, tasted like "Christmas" in August! George did a fantastic design with the expansion out onto the deck, modern yet inviting. If it's chilly the inside Dining Room is beautiful and cozy. Always clean and fresh. A don't miss spot on the Wine Trail after a tasting at Sparkling Pointe or just a family friendly breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

Girls night out at Hellenics, was greeted by Robin who brought us speciality drinks that were exactly what we had hoped for. Our dishes were served promptly and the Greek flair was exactly what we had hoped for. Skordilla, haloumi, saganoki and Greek salads did not dissapoint. Enjoy the atmosphere and watching the cooks at work. Do not pass this by! read more

My husband and I have been going to the Hellenic Snack Bar since our children were small. My son is now 42 and my husband and I still go because it is our favorite restaurant. The food is so delicious starting with the salad, calamari, skordalia, dolmades and everything else on the starter menu. Main courses are delish. The fish and vegetables are always fresh and tasty. Side orders are very generous portions. (So are ALL the portions.) When the weather is nice there is an outdoor patio that is a lovely place to eat. Desserts are homemade and FABULOUS! Service is friendly but professional. Lemonade is the best you will ever taste. Also, don't forget to try a gyro. read more

Hi, We live in West Palm Beach, Fl., my son took me and his family for my 80th Birthday. Everything was outstanding. Our waitress Alexsandra, was wonderful, very professional and friendly. We had a greek salad to start, without lettuce. I could have made a meal off the salad, superb. Sponakopita was one of the best I have ever had, even in Greece. My meal was mousaka and it was light and delicious. Everyone loved their food.I had a greek dessert that was light like a pudding and a cake at the same time. don't remember the name. Everyone had to taste and loved it. My little granddaughter had cheese cake, I did not taste, but everyone said it was awesome. We left happy, full, content and determined to go back next year when we visit Shelter Island again. Thank you again for your great food excuse my spelling of the greek dishes. Ann L. read more

For 40 years, the legendary North Fork Hellenic has been consistently serving the most delicious Greek food on the planet.

I've been coming to Hellenic since I was a kid and it has become a staple of my summers in Mattituck. Their food is pretty good and they have a large selection on their menu. Though we often go with 5-10 people, they are very accommodating and we have never had an issue with the waitstaff or food. Their avgolemono soup is really fabulous. read more

I'm not a huge fan of Greek food, but this place is amazing. Not just the food is great, but the entire experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and it has that certain bit of charm that can only be found on Long Island's North Fork. Make sure you order the fresh lemonade! Well worth a drive! read more

Skodalia is amazing! Soups, salads & everything is terrific! Near the LI wineries on the north fork of the island.

Great restaurant and food. Excellent lemonade. Order the tzatziki and pita bread. Ask for Mary!! Great authentic Greek food and non-Greek food for the non-adventurous. read more

Love this place! Great stop before or after the ferry. If you like Greek food, this is the place for you. Pitas come with everything and they are a dream come true. Last chance to taste your favorite Long Island wine. Spanakopita, yummy beets skordalia, and Moussaaka. One dish was better than the next. Love it! read more

i am not in any way related to the owners or staff of this restaurant. i will say that they serve the freshest and tastiest greek food i have ever come across, this side of the atlantic. their seafood is by far the best prepared dishes that you can eat. i am definitely a fan of their porgie, served with an authentic greek salad with anchovies, it is a delight. their duck chili is from heaven with absolutely the right ingredients in their optimum proportion. what can i say, we stop by hellenic whenever we need a meal to savor. you can not go wrong if you order their fresh lemonade, with or without sugar, a true delight. if you are ever on the east end of long island, make it a point to stop in and see if i am not telling you the absolute truth. read more

Having eaten these past few weekends at Scrimshaw's and Noah's, my wife and I thought we'd come in to our one true favorite eatery out here before heading back to the city. We shared the octopus, my wife had the red snapper and I had the lamb chops. Ok, the octopus wasn't as well prepared as Kyclades, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it. I did; it was just a little too tender for my Chiotisa wife, but I know something about octopus, (and I don't like everything burnt dry). I don't recall if our salads had celery, but Cypriots have a Greek cuisine and I believe they do grow celery in Cyprus. Our entrees were right on the mark, prepared just as we requested from our waitress when she asked. Something the wait staff at Scrimshaw's need to learn, asking the patron how they'd like their meat prepared. We didn't have time for desert as it was getting late. Our one regret was not ordering the lemonade. Next time. read more

Consistently delicious Greek food. Get the saganaki (non-battered fried cheese) with or without tomatoes, or add shrimp for a meal. Everything is served with fluffy toasty pita bread. You will realize the difference quality ingredients make when you dine here. Lamb is fork tender and flavorful. Never had a sub-par dish here. If you are early enough to make breakfast you MUST try the babka french toast. read more

Yum, doesn't get better than this. Lemonade, gyros, Spanikopitka , the best. Everything is great. Kids like the orzo / rice instead of the french fries . Longtime favorite have been going since it was a tiny snack bar, and the quality of the food and authentic taste is still there. A legend, 3 generations of our family go now :). read more

Had a terrific brunch here at the Hellenic, with a fantastic waitress Robin! Highly recommend, ask for the ciabatta bread for the BLT!
