    Rice platter lamb
    Kendra C.

Cute lunch spot after a ferry ride. They have an indoor and outdoor area. I got the lamb over rice dish. Large dish super delish with tomatoes and onions. Rice was aromatic and flavorful. The calamari appetizer was a huge let down. We asked the waiter to compare the half size and full size amount. He portrayed the size with his hands and when it comes out he was comparing the plate not the amount of calamari. Super overpriced for the amount we got. The photo is what we got minus 2 rings. Shrimp orzo was also small dish for the price. Service was a little slow but it was a busy lunch hour and on a weekend. Response to owner: this was around mid-August.

Great food ! Wonderful Greek dishes and plenty of food other than Greek to choose from. Comfortable seating indoors and outdoors. Casual atmosphere. Quick and polite service! We got here off of the main road after leaving orient Point state park beach. Very convenient!

    Broiled octopus

I stopped in with a friend during March for a light lunch. We were seated in the warm kitchen area upon entry and our server brought menus and a friendly greeting. We split an appetizer and a cheese please plate and were very happy with our selections. We ordered the tender broiled octopus which came with olives, sliced cucumber and pita. It was tender and tasteful. We also shared the Saganaki with tomatoes which is baked Kefalograviera cheese over bubbling marinated tomatoes also delicious. Overall a great experience.

After having visited and thoroughly enjoyed the Stony Brook location multiple times, this was a…read morehighly disappointing experience. Popped in for a quick weekend lunch since they had visibly open tables and we were seated right away. The person who showed us to our table led the way, and then dropped menus and utensils in a booth and kept walking. As soon as we made our way through the small restaurant, the absolute filth of the place was the only thing I could focus on. There were food scraps and garbage littering almost every surface of the floor. Our own table had dirty napkins, crumbs and half spilled sugar packets underneath, and the bench needed a wipe down before I could sit. Condiments on the table were dirty and if you moved them, the table was covered with crumbs underneath so no one is moving the condiments to clean. The bathroom was equally disgusting and unkempt. Despite all signs pointing to that we should've left immediately, we were hungry and had been driving for awhile. The food/drink was nothing like the other locations we've visited. In my 20 years of ordering Mimosas, I have never before been asked if I wanted a single or a double. It's prosecco, not shots. I went for the single because my expectations were low, and was presented with a weird little lowball glass of pineapple juice and a jigger of prosecco. That is completely ridiculous to cut a serving in half and call it a "single". For $12 you can buy an entire decent bottle of prosecco, and probably at least three bottles of whatever cheap they're serving. It feels like a cheat not to get a full serving. I ordered the Bootlegger for my meal which is fried chicken, melted cheese, bacon and Russian dressing on a roll. It arrived on a tiny hamburger bun with no dressing. Our server came once to ask how everything was the moment the plates were set down, and left when I told her I hadn't tried it yet. It then took about 10 minutes to obtain a side of dressing once I noticed my sandwich was dry. It was edible, but definitely not worth ever having again. My husband ordered corned beef hash and eggs, which was a plate filled with boxed potato sprinkled with pieces of corned beef. Eggs were fine. We did not use any of the condiments since it was clear they hadn't been swapped out or cleaned, and really tried to get out of this dirty environment as fast as possible. Servers were all concentrated in the bar area, some on phones clearly not busy...so it makes one wonder why no one thought to sweep the floor or wipe down a table. The state of the dining room was truly disgusting and honestly surprising. Our server barely attended to us so we opted not to bring this complaint to her directly and judging by the demeanor of the other staff, there wasn't a manger on duty. The bigger problem here is that if the public-facing front of house can look that way, I can only imagine how the kitchen is kept. We will never return to this location and sincerely hope it can be brought up to the same standards as the others.

They pack in a lot of diners, so there's not much space, not even for strollers (which they also request you leave outside). We went to crazy beans after it came highly rec'd by our Southold friends. Lattes, fresh juices, lobster quesadillas, and a "morning meltdown" omelette (egg white/turkey/avo/spinach) rounded out our order. The star of the meal was the buttered and toasted SOURDOUGH. I asked our server if it's baked in-house or precured from elsewhere (and where?!), but they didn't know. Nor did they care to find out. I can't find it on their website either. But just make sure you try any of their breads. From the looks of their Yelp photos, all the breads look fresh and worth the carbs.

Twenty five years ago it was still Bruce's Café, aka Cheese Emporium, and I remember many a happy visit there with my mom and brother, for muffins, for scones, for cheeses, for brunches, and for the wonderful people who worked there. The bakery-style counter of muffins and scones is gone, and it's quite a different look these days, but the meals served by a new xrew of wonderful people lives up to the legacy granted in my memories. Ok, after that extended intro, let me tell you what we all ordered. I got the carrot "lox" sandwich, and I was truly surprised by how convincing the vegan lox was - before becoming a vegetarian I loved lox, and though the texture was a bit different (more tender than chewy) the taste was startling close. The fried egg was perfectly done and all the fixings - the whipped cream cheese, capers, dill - were excellent. DEVOURED. My dad is very old school and kind of didn't know what to do when he saw the menu, so knowing his tastes, I recommended the Savory Oats, and he was astonished with the dish he received. He all but licked the plate clean. My dad's girlfriend ordered the cheeseburger with the addition of bacon, and not only did they perfectly cook the burger to her preferences, the whole thing was as beautiful as it looked (if I wasn't a vegetarian). I think she may have left a lonely pickle slice or two on her plate. The girlfriend and I also both ordered the iced version of the "pep talk" beverage. It was a LITTLE sweeter than I would prefer and I would have liked a stronger fennel presence, but she adored it just as it was, so I was glad to have given her the idea. The service, from the host at the register, to the server who took our order and the additional staff who bussed the table, was excellent. It was a busy summer Friday and I was a bit worried because I was time-restricted thanks to needing to catch a train, but they were efficient and cordial while keeping the vibe laid-back in a way that seemed effortless (which I'm very sure it wasn't). The current prices might make it so that I couldn't patronize this establishmrnt as often as I did with Bruce's Café, but everything is so good and it has such a classy, elevated feel, it is worth every penny. Thank you to Bruce and Son and its wonderful staff for letting me experience both a lovely meal wrapped in bittersweet bittersweetly cozy memories.

Did I think I was getting just another American-German influenced restaurant with only brats and potato pancakes? Did I expect polka? The experience was actually slow and refined, without the white tablecloths. Alpina has German, Swiss, and slightly Northern Italian influenced cuisine, along with a selection of alcohols I was completely unfamiliar with... which made the experience feel full of new things. The most memorable food was actually one of the simplest. The chef prepared incredibly creamy, caramelized onions with a slight sauerkraut tang that was amazeballs. I told our waiter that I'd write him a love letter over it, and here I am! The pappardelle had shredded duck, cheese, and big, fun, chewy noodles that were satisfying to slurp. It just needed a dash of pepper to elevate it. The meat and cheese board included a few things I'd never tried before, and it was so good I was searching for a meat shop in Manhattan so we could buy them again. Portion sizes aren't huge for the price, but it was worth it to us. Don't be afraid of the dark entrance, the ligonberry on the menu, and ask the bartender about the connection between the giant copper gnome and penguin shaker gone rouge.
