Ample parking but it always seems to get packed. This is a very popular place. My girlfriend and I volunteer at the Custer Observatory across the street, and the parking lot is always full. We finally made it a point to come out early and find out what the buzz was about. First, the building is beautiful and the grounds look very well maintained. The staff is friendly and the bar was very well attended to, judging from the crowd around it. The menu has a nice selection of items, and we focused on some sandwiches, a salad, and an appetizer. I have to say, the marinated brisket burger was better than I expected. Nicely fatty and very flavorful. I ordered it with bacon, just because. My better half ordered the French dip, and she tried to finish it, but couldn't. Half was packed to go. All in all, it was a great dining experience and we'll make it a point to be back for sure. read more

When you get off the Orient Point Ferry, Sophie's Restaurant is the ideal spot for lunch or dinner. It's an old converted house with a dining room and a nice bar. It is worth stopping, go slow because you might just drive by it without realizing it. The food is excellent. We had the chicken sandwich and the clam strips. The staff is sweet and nice. We've visited the North Fork of Long Island a few times now but this is a first to Southold. We arrived later in the evening so we didn't have much of a chance to scour Yelp like we usually do, rushed to get food and landed on Sophie's. The headline is 3.5 stars is actually a perfect rating. The service was cheerful but this is a very American/ Jack of all trades kind of restaurant. We got two types of wings both of which were solid bar food. I got the burger which was pretty good and my wife got the summer salad. My group split a pizza too which was decent as well albeit a far cry from anything you'd find in NYC. Solid for what we needed and for anyone in a pinch. Looking forward to experiencing everything else the area towns have to offer over this coming Memorial Day weekend. read more

Update 8.24 visited with friends for a weeknight diner. Everything very good as noted last year with one exception; my dirty martini was great except the price $24. Each for two. That is a ripoff number. NYC Price for that drink. Check the liquor prices and avoid unpleasant surprise. read more

The food is outstanding, particularly for the price. I really enjoyed the "Seafood Stuffies" which were much like a baked clam but with several types of seafood - I'm still thinking about them! I also had a salad and sweet potato fries that were both excellent. The rest of my party all cleaned their plates. The waitress was quite personable and very funny. It's sort of a neighborhood bar with terrific home-made food. It had about 6 beers on tap and a few excellent craft beer choices. I plan to return many, many times. read more

Horrible experience. Terrible service. Appetizers arrived cold and with the entre. The table itself was very wobbly even after fixing it which makes for a horrible dining experience. Add to that poor service, food served warm at best. Appetizers were forgotten and showed up later. No one wants their appetizers with dinner. Made the table way too crowded and unpleasant. Took forever to get second round of soft drinks. Pizza was unremarkable Took forever to get the check. Which they add 4% to if you use a credit card. Who pays for dinner for four with cash?!? So that cash back you get on your CC? They take it instead of it going to you it goes to them. And so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. I'm done with Sophie's. It's not much more than a dive bar with mediocre food. For the dozen or so times I've eaten or ordered take out it's always been bad food. Skip this place. We stopped in for dinner and a drink. The food was very tasty, and the place was a bit noisy. But it was nice to see the locals having a happy Friday. The service was very nice, but it seemed like a long time to get our bill. Everyone knows what that's like. My guess is that they got busy. We first visited Sophie's about 10 years ago-we were not impressed. Mostly fried food served in styrofoam plates and uncomfortable high-top tables. This past fall, we visited Sophie's again (first time in 10 years). WOW-what an improvement! Delicious marinated steak, fantastic clams-on real plates! Beautifully decorated, comfortable dining table and chairs, friendly staff-great food and drinks. We have returned several times since-always satisfied with our dining experience!! I've lived on the north fork for over 15 years. I've been to Sophie's on a few occasions. On our last visit two friends and I were waiting to be seated in a somewhat busy Sophies. The sign said "wait here to be seated". While we waited for about 10 mins with several staff passing us by, not acknowledging us. I asked one very disgruntled worker excuse me is this where we wait to be seated? She very RUDELY replies, Yes , but your in my way so you need to move. I respond, I'm sorry the sign said wait here. Again she very rudely responds... stay over there NOT here. Owning a restaurant myself I was completely taken a back by how this employee would treat costumers. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was tired because she was clearly working very hard. However, a simple apology would have been accepted instead as we were walking out she continued to say stuff to us. SO SO SO disappointed in SOPHIES in southold. There are so many other great places to venture on the north fork that we will gladly love to give my business to. read more

My husband and I were staying down the street from Sophie's during 4th of July, and decided to stop by for lunch before wine tasting. Sophie's is definitely more of a bar than a restaurant, but we enjoyed sitting in the front interior "porch" area, which has plenty of windows and a nice serene quality during the daytime. Sophie's also has a formal bar and another large room with a pool table for night time revelry. While we ate, a few local regulars stopped by to chat with the bartender and to grab a quick pint. It was a nice convivial atmosphere. My husband and I each ordered a 14" bar pie, which had a cracker thin crust, and was a somewhat large, but not overwhelming portion. All the flavors were there, and it was pretty good for pub pizza. I would definitely recommend Sophie's, and I would like to come back to try their stuffies, which I have heard are tasty as well. read more

Locals have been coming to Sophie's for generations. Best pizzas on the North Fork. Had the freshest and best Peconic Bay scallops on the North Fork with our party of four. sophie's is a southold legend and though visiting the area for decades, have never tried it. the burgers and pizza came highly recommended so that is what we all ordered. the bar pizza was yummy - thin crust which is what we all like and lots of cheese. burgers were excellent - big, juicy, great selection of toppings and coming w/ great crispy french fries and pretty good onion rings. i hear they have a new chef, so i think he's keeping up the reputation. the waitress was lovely, efficient and charmingly chatty. the problem w/ sophie's is the atmosphere. it's absolutely dismal! there are 2 rooms to eat in. one, ours, had 5 high tables that are impossible to adjust once you're perched on it. absolutely no decor. plastic utensils and paper plates! the other room had a couple of regular height tables but was equally stark. no music that i can remember and because we were separate from the bar, there was little liveliness. With a few changes, it could be a nice experience, but giving that it's been around for thirty years (w/ a break), i doubt changes are in the plans. read more

Unfortunately had a pretty bad experience here after hoping it would be a solid local place to grab a bite to eat. We ordered the Margherita pizza which is 100% frozen pizza. In fact as soon as I looked at it, I knew it was the brand "Newmans Own" frozen pizza. I know this because its one of my favorite brands to buy for home. We did ask the waitress if it was frozen pizza and she assured me that they make them fresh everyday. She even came back a few mins later to tell us about how "Sophie" was known for making her pizzas there and they kept the tradition. This story just made it worse as I know for a fact its Newmans Own and its frozen. Other than that, the burgers weren't great either. Looked like they broil the burgers and I dont really like them cooked like that. If the food was quality, this would be a great spot. Unfortunately probably wouldnt give it another try. If I want frozen food I can go to the supermarket and pay half the price. read more
