Tons of food... all good...the lemon chicken soup was very creamy and honestly the best I have ever had. My small Greek side salad was anything but, and very very fresh. My standard order is spanakopita, but I thought I'd try the (feta / spinach) stuffed chicken, served with a very yummy rice. I barely squeezed a bite as I was so full from everything else, but it was excellent!!...and I didn't mention the chickpeas and pita.... One of my favorite Greek restaurants in this area that serves authentic Greek cuisine with generous portions at reasonable prices. Instead of my usual gyro platter I ordered the grilled filet of flounder dinner and I think I discovered my favorite fish dish going forward. Flounder was cooked to perfection: moist, flatly and well seasoned. Served with a vegetable, rice and a side salad. First time trying something either than a gyro or souvlaki and was truly amazed with this dish. Our server Victor was outstanding and always on point. I will not bury the lead here. Akropolis is a fantastic authentic Greek restaurant without a doubt. I first visited Akropolis about eight years ago. My cousin, who lives in St. James invited a bunch of the family out for a meal. At the time it was about 45 minutes to an hour from where I lived. I thought it was fantastic, but I was disappointed that it was so far away. About 3 1/2 years ago, we moved closer to it and I've been there many times since. Today I grabbed a Gyro to go. However, I have had many great meals there. One of the great things about this restaurant is that they offer chickpea salad and pita bread when you arrive. The salad is fantastic. Somehow this type of service is a lost art? Their entrées are also really good. They have a fantastic egg lemon soup. I would also highly recommend the spanakopita as well as the falafel appetizer . For the main course, I would definitely recommend the mixed grill. If you're like me and I have trouble making up your mind this solves your problem. My wife is not a huge fan of Greek food. But she is a huge fan of burgers. The burgers here are outstanding as well as the fries. Close it out with the baklava and I think you are good to go. Definitely check this place out. Wow!!!! First time trying this restaurant & definitely will not be the last. The Gyro meat was the freshest I've EVER had & so delicious. The Avgolemono soup, out of this world. So so good!!!! Both the side salad & Gyro was enough for two ppl. The next table (7 ppl) all kept saying how delicious their food was. The service was great!!!! Rico was so attentive & friendly. The restaurant was packed which is always a good sign. They also have outside seating right in front. Give it a try & enjoy!!!!! I almost forgot & had to edit this because I had to tell you about the most delicious rice pudding I've ever had. Still my favorite Greek spot in the area. I have tried almost every local spot and Akropolis is the best. Their portion sizes and quality/flavor is unmatched. One of my new favorite items is the Greek Country Salad. It tastes so fresh and authentic. The grape leaves that come on top are phenomenal. The lemon chicken soup is always a favorite too in addition to the gyros. They also have the best tzatziki! Pick up orders are always ready quickly and the restaurant is always packed. It was our first time here at the restaurant and I'm glad we did. Walking in, it felt like the place has been there for years and it has this charming fixture to the place and it was quite busy with probably a lot of regulars. We didn't have to wait far too long for table for two. We were greeted with free chick peas salad and some bread. The salad was really good and that was a great start to the rest of the meal. I ordered the sliced lamb and beef gyro sandwich for $13. Let me tell you, the portion of the gyro along with all the fixings especially the chopped lettuce was stupendous. Most important of all, the beef was absolutely tender and no dried corners whatsoever. We also got the mixed grill where we got to pick 3 proteins, so we selected the veal, sausage, and chicken souvlaki for $30. We upcharged that by $6 additional for a side of soup, choice of soft drink or coffee or tea, and a dessert. It was so worth it. All the meat especially the veal was so tender. Love it when a place knows how to cook the meat to perfection without overdoing it. The mixed grill came with rice pilaf and green beans. But definitely the star was the meats. When it came to dessert, we got the spomuni truffle ice cream with an upcharge of $3. All in all, amazing food, real down to earth excellent service and care and certainly will come back in the future. read more

Years ago when I went with my Mom and sons, they all wrinkled their noses to the thought of the chick pea salad. Well one taste and they all changed their minds, had to get more, yes it's that good. I got lunch today in Nesconset at Akropolis, and it was delicious! The portions were humongous, and the prices were more than fair. I think the restaurant was family owned, at least it felt like it was. The staff were so friendly and super quick. I ordered a chicken gyro and an egg lemon soup. The soup was delicous it had big pieces of fresh chicken (you can tell it was definitely homemade) and my gyro was huge I ate maybe half of it (rest will be dinner) the yogurt sauce was honestly the best I've ever had! My Husband had the Mediterranean chicken he said it was delicious and his chicken was so tender (I didn't get a picture of his,he gets aggravated when I take my "stupid food pics" lol jerk ) and my son had a grilled cheese and fries. We all got drinks, and the bill was only 51 bucks. Honestly, that's cheaper than some crappy fast food meals! read more

So yesterday I had moussaka for the very first time as i have been wanting to try it. This place is my go to for greek food so, I ordered. It was literally delicious. So good I want more....but there was an issue; It came as a sandwich width and length piece and a gigantic pile of green beans. So 1/4 moussaka and 3/4 string beans. Gross. So I tried to call them today to see if we could do something different. I paid $24 for a pile of something I don't like with a small bit of something I love. A kid kept answering "hello? Hold!" ....I hold a few minutes and then tried again. Twice. So forget it I ordered from another place in the area. Consistent and delicious! We have ordered in from Akropolis too many times to count! The gyros are always huge, fresh and delicious. They have the best yogurt sauce of any greek restaurant I have been to. The pitas are always soft and taste as if they were just made to order. Came here on a weekend for dinner and the place was packed so I highly recommend calling ahead for a table if you can. There is seating at the bar available too which opens up quicker than the dining room area. We didn't mind the wait and once we were seated, things moved pretty quickly. Our server was polite but very much down to brass tacks which we liked bc we're not big talkers. Food was prepared quickly and was super fresh and flavorful. ABSOLUTE knockout place! The owner is adorable and keep checking on and joking with our table. We had a big dinner party under some sad circumstances because we were together for a memorial but this restaurant helped us to forget about that. I tried galaktoboureko for the first time and it was delicious! 10/10 would recommend this plans! The portions are HUGE so be prepared for that! We could have ordered half of what we did. Seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. -Chicken Gyro: 5/5, again, delicious. The size of these were massive and they didn't skimp out at all. -Falafel: 2/5, definitely not the best I've had.
