Cute setup!

The food trucks are really starting to become a scene over in the Ronkonkoma area. Ya got hot dogs and tacos and comfort foods and now you can even meet the Greeks. Well, it's actually "Meat the Greeks" as this relatively new mobile spot is emphasizing the protein in their name and giving off some pretty legit cred to wanting to meat (or really meet) them. Flashback a bit as my wife and I had noticed this food truck set up on Ronkonkoma Ave before it actually started doling out the edible goods. Honestly we weren't sure if it was really going to set up there, but one day not too many months ago, the place was lit up with a few signs and activity to show that the Greeks were here! Since then, we've taken out from them two times (one being just yesterday) and I have to say their grub is great. Now it's a food truck so the menu is not extremely extensive, but they have a nice array of classic and unique items. The classics include gyros, souvlaki, falafel, spanakopita (and tiropita), hummus and a few others, plus the unique selections in a Greek burger, Greek fries, and a couple of "Mega" versions of things which just involves a plethora of meat (check the menu). Ordering is easy as MTG has a fantastic website and uses the Toast app to place the order. And what did we order? Well perhaps my wife and I will mix it up in the future, but we basically got the same food both times we went. Our items started with the spanakopita (spinach pie) which was flaky as it should be and filled with a nice creamy, cheesy, spinach(y) interior. From there, we split a gyro (with the classic gyro meat) and one of the Greek burgers. Both times the gyro was packed with slices of that delicious beef/lamb protein along with thinly sliced tomato, onion, and tzatziki. The burger takes a regular beef patty (that is quite tasty on its own) and adds in feta, red onion, and tzatziki. It sounds simple enough, but oh does it hit the spot. The kicker of all kicks are probably the Greek fries. These bad boys honestly looked a little "meh" the first time my wife and I pulled them out of the bag, but oh man were we wrong. Topped with herbs, olive oil, a little lemon, and feta cheese these spuds are crispy, flavorful, and hard to stop eating. Definitely go for the potato. I almost forgot that we also ordered some hummus the first time around which came with warm pita and was as respectable in taste as hummus can be. Before rounding things out, I do want to bring up that "meet" part of Meat the Greeks. Both times I picked up food, the people working in that tiny food truck were extremely friendly and personable. They used my name, asked if I needed any utensils, smiled, and thanked me for coming. Even while I waited yesterday in the slightly chilly air, one of the MTG folks clicked on the two heat lamps they have posted on both sides of the truck (along with some fake plants with lights and a little Greek music from a speaker). You could tell this food truck really wants to make you feel welcomed and that is definitely helpful in wanting to come back. Overall, Meat the Greeks is a fantastic little food truck. They have a menu that keeps it simple while still having a few eclectic options that helps to make sure you're getting good quality. Plus you can't sleep on the friendliness of the workers who are probably one big family (hence the picture on the side of the food truck). You'll want to meat...or um meet these Greeks and their food truck as soon as you can.

The sausage & egg were not large enough for the bagel. This was also one of the more expensive bagel sandwiches I've bought in the area and I don't think the quality matches the price. The place also felt messy and unclean. Maybe the quality and cleanliness would have been better if I got food first thing in the morning, but I don't think I'll be heading back here anytime soon given the other options in the area.

So I made my way over there to try em out. Long Island really rapes you on a bacon egg and cheese, or at least this crap-hole does. Paid something close to $9 and it was god awful. I have a hard time believing this ever could have been good. I see 80-90% of the pix on here are from one dude three years ago, some look good n all, but this place is anything but. Hard pass. Signed - a guy struggling with living on Long Island again.
