The place was pretty empty so my friend and I were seated immediately. Feeling really hungry, I decided on the Koobideh dinner combo. Yep, it really is enough to feed two people. The dinner combo comes with either lentil soup or salad, pita bread, pepperoncinis, and your dinner plate. I got the lentil soup; interesting flavor didn't taste like a traditional lentil soup. It had a slight minty taste to it. The Koobideh plate consists of basmati rice, two skewers (one chicken, one minced beef), a grilled tomato, and chili. The flavor of the skewers was, sadly, quite subtle and bland. I compare it to eating tofu, a real lack of flavor. At least the skewers were moist. Perhaps my experience was a fluke and I'd be willing to give them another try. Located in front of PCC, so street parking sucks. They do have a lot in the back (that I was unaware of). read more

Try this place for the first time with a friend and boy was I pleasantly surprised and the food was really good I had hummus and salmon kebab and it was extremely delicious I would say that despite the very slow service the food was well worth it I hope you give this place a try just make sure you're not A Muslimfob because there are Muslims That go there but they are very nice. They usually give you a lot of basmati rice which is a definitely a plus. I prefer basmati rice over normal grain rice. The food is also very filling, sometimes I can't finish whatever I ordered and I usually can eat a lot. The price matches what they give you so it's fair in the end. Big portions, but the service is terrible. I really question if a person isn't born here that being rude is an excuse. The server came over to refill my friend's tea and I asked if I can have one too and placed my cup down. She just left abruptly with my friend's cup and not mine. The bussers have better hospitality than the actual servers and I'll bet real money that they don't get compensated. They also left their massive doors open during dinner and the whole damn place was fucking freezing. Just get takeout. I came here with a friend and we both got the lunch special. The lunch special comes with either soup or salad. This was my first time trying the barley soup and that is the least thing I like. I ordered the beef kabob and my friend ordered the chicken kabob. They are both good, although I will get the chicken next time. I've been to this restaurant for a couple of times but my last experience was disappointing. I ordered crisy rice" Tah Dig" and Beef Koobideh, I'm Persian and I know Persian food. Crispy rice was an absolute waste of money, it was stale and tasteless and very difficult to chew, probably a leftover from 2-3 days before. Love Heidar Baba. The food is always hot and delicious. The staff is warm and welcome, from the start to finish. We always order 3-4 dishes, and that feeds the whole family of 4, with left overs. okay so this place was disappointing. there were a lot of problems. i came here with my boyfriend and he ordered the lamb while i got the shish kabob. for some reason they were...strange. both tasted the same, expired. the food also looked weird; the image of the food on the poster were completely different! mine seemed to be missing a lot. unlike other people, i didn't have a green pepper and my tomato looked like it was smacked before someone bought it, left it in the fridge for 6 days, and burned on the sides while being cooked. the service was terrible. the servers ignored our table a lot. especially when we needed refills. afterwards, we gave them a hundred. it took 20 minutes for them to get our change and i was already running late for my summer class at the nearby college because we had to ask twice for the check. then they gave the wrong change, 20 dollars short so we complained and got the money back. overall, NEVER AGAIN will i be coming here. we both ended up with diahhrea and i got a little food poisoning... i'm usually optimistic about places and i give them another chance but this place just killed it for me. read more

Great little place that is run/owned by real Persians. The food is great, look at the rice they make and the Kebob they prepare- all in plain view. The service is great - they have a gal there that is just a joy. She is funny, cheerful, jokes and makes you feel extremely welcome. Best way to describe her is she is mid weight blondish hair and you will know who she is by her outgoing personality. The lamb kubideh is great, so is the lamb shank, the soltani is also wonderful. Food: The food is delicious! The meat melts in your mouth and the flavors are bold but not overbearing. We ordered the plate that feeds 3 but in reality it fed 6 people (leftovers fed 3 more people) but don't quote me on this i guess it could feed 3 people depending on how hungry you are. The food included a side soup or salad, basmati rice, grilled tomato and chili, a lula, meat and chicken.... I'm not a big meat eater but this meat was DELICIOUS! Upon getting recommendations from a number of friends about this place, I finally decided to check it out since I was going to be meeting up with an old friend in Pasadena tonight. Right off the bat, I was surprised at the great location, right across the street from PCC. The environment is clean and the restaurant is quite big (bigger than it looks from the outside). They also have their own parking lot in the back, which is a plus in the area. The waitress was really nice and accommodating. I ordered a sandwich with the barley soup. The soup was really good and the sandwich was decent. It was a really large size though. My friends ordered sandwiches which were humongous and they had to take them to go since they couldn't finish. I have heard the dinner plates are good but we didn't feel like trying any of them tonight. We ended up sharing a raspberry chocolate gelato which was amazing. Tried this place out because I was craving some Mediterranean food one day. I called in an order to go, I got 2 order of koubideh plates, and a side order of hummus...it came out to around 36 bucks. The lady on the phone asked if we wanted it family style, and I said yes because I don't know what that means here and I wanted to know what that was... Haha... Honestly at first I was kinda surprised by how pricy it seems, then we went in to pick up our food within 20 minutes of calling, and my husband pointed a large aluminum tray on the counter and asked if that was my order, I told him, I don't think so...but sure enough that humongous tray was my order... Holy cow, that's a lot of food. So the price matches the amount of food, we were able to feed a family of 5 and still have leftover for the whole family the next day. Definitely worth it. And the koubideh was very tasty, along with the rice, pita bread, grilled tomatoes and grilled peppers. They always say, the first impression is the most important one, and unfortunately, the one I got from Heidar Baba wasn't as good as I had hoped. Ordered the Soltani (combination of barg and koobideh), and stood off to the side to wait. I ended up waiting and waiting, and finally went back to the server who took my order about the status of my order. She inquired and looked around. Turns out it's been completed and tossed into a warmer and my server was not notified about it. Seriously? My server advised the owner what had happened and to compensate me for the wait, I was offered free bahklava. Nice gesture. I'm not sure if it's because the food is Halal, but their barg is the worst I've had from the many Persian restaurants I have dined at in the LA area. The meat was chewy and rubbery, not pleasant at all to eat. The koobideh was good and seasoned nicely. I wished the saffron basmati rice was bettered seasoned as well. It was quite bland when compared to other places such as Shamshiri and Raffi's. Will have to think about whether or not I'd like to go back and try their other offerings. A reviewer wrote that they're always clean. Um, true, I arrived just before 9pm on a Sunday night to place my order, but it was still not a good first impression to see about 4 empty tables in the main dining area that still need to be cleaned from the previous customers. I had À La Carte white chicken skewers and beef koobidah (ground meat skewers) and they were just so tender and perfectly seasoned as they're marinated long enough to absorb the flavors.
