Curry Time is small mom & pop establishment that serves traditional Indian food in a fast casual format. The place is small, and there are a few tables to sit at if you want to dine in. However, the day of my visit the air conditioner wasn't working, so it was warm inside. I've had take out from here before and came back to pick up some Samosas for a party. I was greeted by Nancy when I arrived. I asked for some Veggy Samosas but she said they didn't have any, so I ordered Veggy Pakora and Garlic Naan instead. The Pakora smelled really good and was still warm when I arrived at the party, as was the Garlic Naan. I liked the spices used on the Pakora. It had a nice flavor. I don't usually partake in Indian food, but I've had my share in SoCal and much more in NorCal near San Jose, so I can say that I'm not that unfamiliar with flavor profiles and the cuisine. Normally, I don't meander to this side of Pasadena, but it pays to explore once in awhile. There's street parking, some parking in the back, or if you really need to you can park across the street and walk over. It's pretty busy, even on a weekday at an off hour (between the lunch and dinner rushes). Walking in, despite having 2 floor cooling units, it was SUPER hot and humid. But people were still dining in, so I'm sure they have loyal customers or when the food hankering is that bad, the heat doesn't matter. Most of the food was moved to the back to survive the heat and it seemed like only one person was working at the time, so I had to ring the bell to summon them. Lady was curt, but clear in her explanations of the menu and how long it would take the food to be ready. I got some veggie samosas, but she also recommended that they come with something. I'm not entirely sure what it was, but I agreed since, sure why not. At the end of the day, I couldn't parse through the menu to really get an idea of what it was. Everything was VERY spicy or had a really sour (flavor profile, not that it went bad) taste to it. I enjoy spicy food, but it meant I couldn't really share with my family which sucked. Not that diverse of a flavor profile that I've had at other Indian restaurants before, so that was a bit disappointing. The fried exterior of the samosa was pretty good. The strange mix that came with it was a mix of spicy, sour, and really dry. The sauce that we got was a super tart vinegar kind of grape tasting sauce? Didn't really go great with anything in the order. Maybe what I ordered wasn't the right thing, but my experience was lukewarm at best. read more

Updating my review to 5 stars because I promised I would. Packaging is immaculate - we went from loose styrofoams with curry spilling everywhere to neatly sealed containers, double wrapped with Saran Wrap. Totally spill proof (thank you owner for taking my thoughts about packaging into consideration). Ordered my usual - and this time it's exactly what was promised. Hardly any bones in my goat curry order. Food is delicious as always (it was never about the flavor, the place has a great cook). Thank you again for being open to customer suggestions when it came to my concerns the last couple of times. I'm glad I came back :)!! read more

We came at 7pm on a Saturday. There were no food out. We were told they close at 8pm so they started closing up but we can still order. We got a spicy chicken curry, mango curry and the spinach cheese with garlic nan. We also got the mango smoothie which was delicious as usual. She went to the back and we got our food in about 15-20 minutes. It was very okay. No where near as good as their El Monte location. She messed up on our order and put in a different chicken than what I asked for. The spinach here also tasted different and not as good as the El Monte location. The table was very dirty and I had used many napkins to try and wipe the very thick black dust but gave up. The whole experience was more of a 3 stars for me but my friend liked his food very much so I'm bumping it to 4. read more

I love the aroma of delicious Indian food when I walk in. The smell made me really hungry. I arrived closer to 6PM, and I thought they were sold out because there were only three items in their steam table. The staff member named Nancy reassured me that all items were available. She was really nice, and she was able to offer suggestions. Honestly, it would have been easier to decide if there were only three items left, but there were so many I wanted to try. I wanted to try their pepper chicken, spinach cheese, goat curry, coconut chicken, and garbanzo. I'm getting hungry from listing them out. I ended up ordering a bowl of the mango chicken. I have never seen mango chicken curry on the menu of any Indian restaurant I've been to. It felt unique to me. I recommend the mango chicken if you want something sweet and spicy. I liked that it also packed a bit of heat in each bite. The garlic naan was also good. The texture reminded me of mochi. It was a bit chewy to me. There was plenty of parking in the back. Parking for the car was no issue. I was able to park on the street too. Apparently there are three other Curry Times (Pasadena, Pomona, and El Monte). I was told that the El Monte location accepts EBT, which I liked. I will come back to Curry Time for sure. It will be a good place for future lunches. read more

I had a great experience at Curry Time! I was able to sample the curries offered for the combinations, which was very kind of them to let me sample so I could see which one I liked the most. My favorite I tried (I tried the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and chicken curry) was the chicken curry. I ended up ordering veggie samosas. They were really flavorful, and I love the crunch from the cooked dough. They were made fresh to order. I really appreciate the kind customer service of this establishment. Hmmm, we arrived tonight (Friday) before 7 pm (restaurant closes at 9 pm), as soon as you enter the restaurant, you can feel the heat from fans blowing hot air inside restaurant - very uncomfortable!!! (It was a lot cooler outside than it was inside the restaurant!). A handful of people in restaurant but only one person was eating. No one behind the counter? As we walked towards the counter, noticed NO FOOD in area where hot food is displayed? Waited a couple minutes, no one appeared, didn't feel comfortable and decided to leave! I stopped by Curry Time on a whim, just driving by. I don't normally order Indian food since many restaurants I've tried are either not authentic, or they do a mish mash of food from various regions. This was a quick, fast casual format so I figured it would be quick and easy. And prices are fair so not a huge loss if the food was not great. The owner was there as I ordered and we had a great conversation. I learned there are other branches of this shop. It was close to closing time and she kindly offered me a taste off several of the dishes. I was pleased to notice the flavors were all distinct. Everything was well spiced and fresh tasting. I was very pleased. All the chicken curries are delicious. I settled with the mango chicken and also the goat curry (authentically cooked bone in) and garlic naan. The pricing was a bit misleading initially because there are upcharges for various combinations. However, I recently returned and noticed the signage on pricing was clearer. Been there several times and I've never had a curry that I did not like. Yesterday I decided to try the mango lassi although it had a strange pink color that I wasn't used to.... I'm glad I did. It was the best lassi I've ever had. I even bought a second. The naan bread is huge ! read more

I got the combo plate with 2 entrees and it was amazing! Everything was super flavorful. The portions are big, so you definitely get your money's worth. Customer service is severely lacking, we arrived just after they opened and went in to say we had an online order and one of the gentleman said they had just opened and it wasn't ready yet. So we left and went on a walk. We returned when we reached the time it stated the food would be done. It was done on time but it was the wrong order. I selected the Chicken Curry pizza and I received the tandoori chicken pizza. When I told them I had the wrong pizza he said no you ordered the chicken curry pizza. I had ordered (online) the chicken curry masala pizza when I asked why the pizza given to me had peppers and olives he said he didn't know why the online description said that because the online description for the chicken curry pizza doesn't have tomatoes and he doesn't use tomatoes. This will be my go-to Indian/curry spot. I've tried four or five other Indian places in Pasadena. All fell short in one way or another for me. Not Curry Time. Ordered the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and samosas. All excellent, very well spiced. Maybe the best saag paneer I've ever had. Nice family running the place when I stopped by, not sure why it's listed as closed. It's a neighborhood spot, good for a quick lunch/dinner. I had the black pepper chicken and butter chicken combo. Pretty good sized portions. The black pepper chicken had a nice spicy flavor that I enjoy, but a little too much onion. Their butter chicken wasn't my favorite, would prefer if the chicken was roasted, seemed to be just boiled in the sauce. Sauce could also be creamier and it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The garlic naan was really addictive and yummy. I was happy a local indian place opened up. Overall pretty good spot for takeout Indian! We got a 3 item combo, which is a great way to try more than one dish! The goat curry was very good flavor but almost all the meat pieces were bone or fat, which was disappointing. Otherwise the coconut curry and saag paneer (spinach/cheese) were both very good. I was a fan of the original Curry Time location in El Monte so I was excited to hear that a new branch opened closer to me. This spot feels exactly like the original, offering the same solid taste and great value. The interior here is similarly sized (maybe a little smaller) with a good number of tables for those dining in. I usually opt for takeout for the convenience. Their menu is the exact same with a good range of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I'm a fan of the 3-item combo and a drink since it's the best if you want to maximize value and variety. If you have a normal-sized appetite, it's honestly enough food for two people. For most people, the 2-item combo is plenty enough to fill you up. My go-to's are still the Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Veggie Korma, and Mango Lassi. All pretty basic, but they're good and the meat's tender. Service was quick as expected and super friendly. Unlike the original, I don't believe they have a parking lot, but maybe I missed it, so you may have to go with street parking. The taste and value here are still consistent with the original. The flavors are still solid, with generous portion sizes that don't disappoint. read more

Not a fancy sit-down restaurant but a quick, run in and grab some really good curry to go place. They have several meat or vegetable curries cooked and ready to. Generous servings. And I stopped coming because of the food and the service was so bad and then I came in about eight months ago I thought I would try it again because it was under new management and met the owner Chef and I decided I was gonna come back again because the food was so delicious. I ran in here on a whim. It's a small restaurant but the lady who operated it was very kind and offered me and a friend samples when we didn t know what to get. I got the butter chicken and coconut chicken. It was really flavorful and probably the best I've had in a while. She had a good mix of meat and vegetarian dishes available. The food is good, I love the El Monte location. The guys that work there are not the nicest, might just be me. I was upset personally that they do not have anything spicy at this location, I miss the Kadai and Vindaloo chicken. Curry Time has opened under new management and had a small but diverse buffet offering of veg and nonveg dishes with other freshly made food to order for dine in or take out. As a vegan, I picked the eggplant, a potato-cauliflower dish and an onion jalapeno paratha, which wasn't on the menu. The woman working the cash register and kitchen said she was a vegan too and was only too happy to make the paratha for me with whole wheat flour at my request. I had everything to go and was delighted with the taste of the dishes. The flavoring was mild to medium spicy, but she said she could make it spicier if asked. A bonus was that there was ample parking in front of the restaurant and it was right next to where I get my dogs groomed, I'm eager to go back and try the vegan Indian pizza. read more
