First off, my husband and I are usually the type to order the same food and go to the same restaurants over and over again. But while shopping on Colorado Blvd, we decided we wanted to try something different. We both love Indian food, but I have a sensitive stomach, so sometimes Indian restaurants can be hit or miss for me. We decided to give Chak De California a try, and WOW! What a hidden gem. We've lived in Pasadena this whole time and somehow never knew this place existed. The moment we walked in, we noticed how beautiful the restaurant was. The decor is modern, stylish, and has such a warm vibe. The staff and who I believe was the owner were incredibly welcoming and kind. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the meat platter, and honestly, the food was incredible. The chicken tikka masala was hands-down the best I've ever had. The sauce is absolutely amazing, the meat was super tender, and even ordering it a little spicy didn't upset my stomach at all -- which tells me they're using really quality ingredients. Another thing we loved was the atmosphere. There was a DJ the Saturday night we went, and the music was such a cool mix of Bollywood, French house, and eclectic lounge vibes. It was chill, classy, and not overly loud or crazy. Super cute date night vibe. Overall, genuinely a 10/10 experience. I'm literally at home right now waiting for my chicken tikka masala on Postmates and felt the need to write this review immediately. Don't sleep on this restaurant, seriously go try it ASAP. Yes, the prices are a little on the higher side, but honestly, it feels justified because the quality is there.

A friend recommended this place and I like indian food so why not? The space was giving low profile club vibes, even got a live DJ spinnin. Their menu had a lot of interesting items, but one thing that stood out to me that I had to try was the crab dip. The crab dip came with small slices of garlicky naan and it tasted sooo good. I ordered the chicken naan wrap for my entree and it was delicious too. Our waitress (whom started a few days ago) was the nicest person ever!

Delicious food, interesting decor, good value (we had leftovers ;), service was pretty slow considering there were only 2 other tables seated.

My friend and I went over the holidays so it wasn't too busy at all. We loved the chicken tikka masala, the cheese naan, and the chai. Between us, we shared those and an appetizer and were absolutely stuffed until past dinner time. I highly recommend going here!

Came here for a friend's birthday party. Only had the vegetarian options. They're pretty good, I'd definitely come back here next time I'm in Pasadena

Chak de California is open in a new spot (just a few doors down) in Pasadena but I had been to the previous tenant and loved how they decorated that space, so I was really happy to see a restaurant take over and not have the beautiful aesthetic go to waste! What we ordered: + Gol Gappa Shots: their take on pani puri. The puff balls were crunchy which was great, the mint flavored water could be more flavorful and the filling was good but I also think from form of freshness (herbs or onions) could be good here! -- BUT looking at the menu, maybe the Dahi Puri Chaat is more up my alley! + Murg Makhani - their version of butter chicken. Lots "tomato gravy" as on the menu was delicious and very creamy. I would 100% come back for this dish. There was plenty of dark meat but my personal preference is to make the pieces smaller. + Palak Paneer with Lamb - very aromatic and the lamb was tender! Have never had paneer with meat before and it was solid! I would definitely come back and try one of their more fusion varieties next time.

An amazing restaurant. Went on a weekday afternoon and it was very relaxed, they had the World Cup on one screen; you can tell that otherwise it was a chatting sit down vibe. The service was great. The food was better! Enjoyed some fries and Samosas with mango mojito (beer and wine only, no spirits). The chutney was so fresh! The Chicken Korma was probably the best I've had so far, and I've had a few. Very rich flavor accompanied by some naan and rice that really rounded everything out. We got spicy and it does have a kick. Please check this place out!

Not too sure how this place got this high of reviews. Online it said it was open at noon but they didn't open till 1pm. Ok no problem.. we went somewhere else and come back at 1. Once seated we order the food...They told us the sizzling plate will take about 35 mins which we said sure. Little did we know.. the whole meal took over 40 mins to come out. I'm not sure how they could've been this slow for the stuff we ordered. It wasn't like the place was full. Almost through the meal the server brought out the sauces. It just seemed like the flow of what came out wasn't carefully thought out. The taste of the food was just ok. I wouldn't rave about this or think it was worth coming back for. It didn't mention goat cheese was going to be on the pizza which did catch us by surprise. There was a fork on the floor that I found at my table when I sat down and since I was the first to sit at that table it was a bit odd.. like was the floor not cleaned? Only reason I came was to use my Amex Resy credit.. but nothing really stood out.

Authentic new Indian Restaurant! Came here on a dinner date spontaneously last night with my other half last night and so glad we did!! There aren't many indian spots in Pasadena that are formal sit-down so Chak-de takes care of that in good ol' Old Town Pasadena right on colorado ave. It's across directly from Prince Pizza and all the other local eateries. It looks like it *just* opened and here is my experience: FOOD ORDERED 1) GOL GAPPA (appetizer) -11$ very authentic and if you've never tried it, you should! thin little crispy appetizier with potato and chickpea in it (you pour the sauce in it before eating) 2) CHAK DE SIZzING SAMPLER - 36$ - you should definitely GET THIS especially if you have a group of people. it 's under the "tandoor" section and comes with tandorri wings, seekh kebab, paneer, and tandoori chickn masala! - skip the other appetizers if you don't have room - definitely easy to share with 4 people; we happily took leftovers home 3) CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20$ - typical staple and nothing spectacular compared to other restaurants; yummy taste as usual. get this if you are with people who don't like to try new things and want to play it safe. my man always wants this and i have no objection - comes with rice so don't order extra 4) GARLIC NAAN - must - get this to eat with your main curry b ased items. 4 pieces was great - usually naan is naan but we both think this one gets a special shout out as they were 4 large crispy thin pieces that were freshly wood fired and good quality pieces for an indian restaurant!! 5) MANGO LASSI DESERT DRINK - don't skip! :) always great everywhere. chak de's doesn't dissapoint - they ran out of lamb and samosa the day of our dinner so they nicely offered a MANGO LASSI which we didn't expect OVERALL *You can make a reservation on RESY * Food was SO GOOD despite not all items available * Service was attentive with one waiter on a monday night. *Parking is street or nearby structure *Large restaurant for family seating - for both casual and celebration dining Will be back when craving indian food! Hope this place makes it! It took over Lounge 54. btw lol so funny to dine where you used to party. xx OCT 2025 review

Indian food always seems to hit the spot whenever I want delicious, flavor-packed cuisine. I've tried a few places around Old Town Pasadena, but I haven't tried the relatively newer Chak-De. It's spacious and modern, and right off Colorado, so I came here for lunch with my friend. We got the classic Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, and Basmati rice, as well as Mango Laasi. The Mango Laasi was very delicious and it's a must have here! Of the two entrees, the Chicken Tikka Masala is definitely the better of the two, featuring that classic Masala flavor. It is what I always gravitate to when I go to a new Indian spot. The only blemish here is that there's just not enough proteins and the Masala is a bit watery. The Lamb Vindaloo is a bit more of a mixed bag because while it is good, it's a bit strong in its vinegar taste. I think a more layered, complete flavor would help. It's also missing some of the heat that I come to expect from Vindaloo. Thankfully the garlic Naan delivers in its strong flavor to balance everything. Overall, the food is good enough for us to come back and explore more.

This place is our new go to restaurant! Chak De California made my birthday so special, and I'm so grateful for the experience. Jesse Singh, the owner, took the time to welcome us personally and share the story behind the restaurant. You can immediately feel the passion and heart he has put into creating this place. As we simply touched base on simple indian ingredients, Jesse shared how everything in the restaurant is fresh, made daily, without microwaves, from home. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being welcomed in as a guest. The food was incredible. The paneer tacos were easily my favorite and are an absolute must-try. The chicken tikka pasta was also amazing and such a perfect fusion of flavors. Every dish was unique, flavorful, and thoughtfully made, as we tasted in the brilliant Saag (took us back to our roots in Punjab). What stood out just as much as the food was the hospitality and ambiance! The staff was genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. It's so refreshing to be treated with such warmth and care. Thank you to Jesse and the entire team for making my birthday celebration, with the AMAZING house mango Kulfi, one to remember. We'll definitely be back!

Had this bookmarked & noticed that a few Yelp Friends have left their reviews on here. It looks like that hometown feel type of shop but the experience today was NOT that. Service was polite but not quite that welcoming that you would feel at a mom n pops shop. It's too bad coz if it were, we would frequent this diner/cafe. Most places that we're regulars at, we feel valued as patrons and are welcomed like family. I find less and less places have this kind of atmosphere. We ordered breakfast staples; Hubby ordered a machaca combo with flour tortillas & black beans, I opted for the (2 large!) banana walnut pancakes combo with chicken apple sausage, potatoes & over medium eggs. Our food arrived timely, hot and good presentation. Hubby said the machaca was decent because having had his fair share of machaca, these passed. My pancakes were huge! Flavor was good, as the banana slices & walnuts were cooked in, not just placed on top like most places. Macadamias would've been a better pairing though. The chicken apple sausage was flavorful & eggs were cooked as requested. Noise level was somewhat loud with all the clanging as tables were cleaned/bussed around us. Overall a decent experience for our first time visit, as mentioned, if the service was more thoughtful & welcoming, it would've made the difference from a 3 star to perhaps a 4 or a 5 star. Food for thought.

When the host at the front, who was managing the waitlist, told us our table was getting cleaned, she pointed to a specific table that was being cleaned by the busboys. Shortly afterward, I saw a customer approached the staff, and they seated him at the same table we had just been told was ours. I immediately asked the manager what was going on. The manager told me that the host had "said it wrong" and that the other customer had a reservation. I understand that reservations need to be honored, but then why were we told that this particular table was ours after we had already waited 90 minutes? We had given our name, followed the waitlist process, and patiently waited. If there was a reservation for that table, the staff should have known and communicated that clearly. The next available table could have been given to the reservation party. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the manager's attitude toward us compared with his attitude toward the other party. We had done nothing wrong. We were understandably unhappy because someone else was seated at the table we had just been promised. Since the confusion was caused by the restaurant, we would have appreciated at least a meaningful "I'm sorry." Instead, the manager seemed annoyed when speaking with us (think about a cold tone voice and side eyeing). At the same time, he was smiling and friendly toward the other party. The difference in attitude was very noticeable and left us feeling like we were not being treated fairly or equally. This was especially uncomfortable with the difference in our ethnicity and the other party. I cannot say for certain that race was the reason for what happened, but the combination of being passed over for a table we were told was ours, and then seeing the manager treat the other party so differently made it very difficult not to question. I hope the restaurant reviews how its hosts and managers handle situations like this, because customers deserve to be treated consistently and respectfully.

Despite its popularity, I find the food to be fairly average. Much of it tastes like it's made from standard commercial food-service ingredients rather than prepared fresh. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

Yesterday evening I met a friend I haven't seen in a while for dinner and we chose to do the Dine…read moreLA menu. I had never been to Bone Kettle and didn't know what to expect, but wow the service was impeccable! Our waters were kept full, and waiters were swift to clear empty plates or wipe the table before placing the next courses down! The ambiance is lightly dimmed and intimate and very spacious both indoor and outdoors seating. To begin I had the malaria corn riblets and silly me I tried to eat it with a chopsticks and biting right through it. LOL. When I realized the cob is there I ended up using my hands to eat it and I did feel like I'm in a nice restaurant but using my hands felt a bit weird but that's OK, it was absolutely delicious, the corn was easily pulled off the cob and the aoli had a very rich flavor. To drink we were offered the $25 surprise option which was between white or red wine and we chose the red. Our surprise wine was the Abondanza red and paired absolutely perfectly with the meal. For the second course my friend and I both chose the Nasi Udok and boy were we happily smelling the scent of the food and digging right in. Those braised eggs had an amazing taste accented by whatever the sauce was on top I've never had an egg like this. The Cornish hen was lightly crunchy on the outside and nice and hot and juicy on the inside. Absolutely delicious paired with the rice which had this aromatic ginger smell and taste too me that just complemented everything so well. For the last course was dessert and we got the Panna cotta. This is not your average Panna Cotta, no it's amazing. The cheesy base sits in a pool of sauce and little green tid bits that my friend and I can't guess what they are. Instead of being a sweet sweet dessert, the Panna Cotta was a sweet savory dish. I loved the variation and I savored every bite. Definitely a very delicious and amazing experience that I recommend next time you're in the area!

Came on a Wednesday night for dineLA dinner with a friend. The restaurant was bustling for middle…read moreof the week. Lighting was dim, nice place for a cozy dinner. This is what we ordered: Appetizer -Crab salad: light and refreshing. Dinner was off to a good start. Entrees -Nasi uduk: cornish hen, cucumbers, egg, and rice. Beautifully presented, well prepared. -Fatty brisket: loved this dish. The 36-hour bone broth is what customers come back for, even on a hot summer day. Dessert -Es Cendol Panna Cotta: did not hit the spot. The dessert looked like green beans swimming in a thick layer of syrup, which was sweet and savory. It tasted like soy sauce with sugar and had a distinct herbal medicinal flavor. The syrup overpowered the panna cotta instead of complementing it. I made the mistake of ordering this dessert without reading what es cendol was: a traditional Indonesian dessert with green pandan jelly noodles served with coconut milk, palm sugar syrup. Since I convinced my friend to order this dessert and she did not want to try it because she said it looked like "Shrek food", I asked a server if it was possible to swap out her panna cotta with the milk and cookie, the other dessert listed on the dineLA menu. -Milk & Cookie: nice palate cleanser. Milk tea ice cream, crunchy black sesame lotus cookie. This dessert was a nice finish to an enjoyable dinner. Thank you to the staff for accommodating our dessert swap. Will be coming back for the 36-hour bone broth.
