Rava Masala Dosa - crunchy and yummy
    Aurora L.

Great spot for authentic South Indian food! Just make sure to check their opening hours since they're not open all day. Rava Masala Dosa: Crunchy and absolutely delicious, with perfectly cooked onion pieces adding extra flavor. Mysore Masala Dosa: Spicy and flavorful, especially tasty with the red coconut chutney. Chicken Curry: Bursting with flavor! The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. Idly and Medu Vada: Both were fresh and delicious--classic South Indian staples done right. Masala fried fish: Seasoned and delicious! Mango Lassi: Perfectly balanced with sweetness and tartness. Highly recommend pairing it with the spicier dishes! One note: be patient with the service. You can tell they are doing their best with what they know, so a little understanding goes a long way. If you're craving authentic South Indian food, this place is a must-try.

Everything is good here! We order super mild and it still has a kick. Flavorful and fantastic. Family size dosa!

An absolutely delicious and enriching culinary experience! I started the meal off with the samosas, which were hearty and delectable. I then ended with two different types of dosas paired with their signature curries. The goat curry was my absolute favorite and had tons of flavor with moderate spice. A true gateway to excellent South Indian cooking in Southern California!

Overall Experience We have visited this restaurant multiple times over the years and always enjoyed our meals. However, our recent visits have been noticeably different and not in a good way. The overall quality and experience have declined significantly. Service The service has become slower and less attentive. What used to feel warm and efficient now feels rushed and careless. Food Quality Dosa Experience * We ordered the Paper Masala Dosa, which they proudly claim is "as thin as paper." Unfortunately, what we received was the opposite -- it was quite thick and nowhere close to the crisp, paper-thin texture expected. * At this point, a simple Sada Dosa would have been a much better choice. Chutney Issues * Earlier, their Tomato Chutney tasted like a balanced blend of tomato, chilli, and garlic. * Now, it just tastes like chilli and red colouring, with hardly any hint of tomato. Cleanliness Concern * The most disappointing part was finding hair in the dosa, which raises serious concerns about hygiene. All these issues seem to have started after the change in management. The consistency, flavours, and overall quality that once made the place reliable are no longer the same. This used to be one of our favourite spots, but the recent decline in food quality, service, and hygiene has been very disappointing. Hoping management takes notice and works to bring back the standards they were once known for.

One of the best Indian food restaurants in San gabriel valley. Always super busy with people dining inside and lots of take out orders. Kitchen is super fast cooking everything to order. They have the best Dosas and plate choices for the price. Super friendly staff and owner plus they have Indian Taj Mahal beer which is great! One of the best mango lassis too!

*Review for for food only Was lazy to go out for food so I jumped on Uber eats and this place was a top eat on the app so I decided Indian food it was! I ordered the chicken tikka masala and an order of garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala had really good flavor, but the sauce was too runny for my liking. In my experience im used to tikka masala being on the thicker side, the one form here was almost like a soup consistency. The rice was cooked well. The garlic naan was great and it tied the meal together well. Can't say I recommend since I'm not sure about the service or how well other Indian restaurants in the area perform in comparison.

So delicious. This is our go to Indian place. They serve the kingfisher beer in frosted glasses as well.

It's been a while since I've been here. Still good solid South Indian food. Got the dosa and the goat biriyani. Large portion for the prices.

But while shopping on Colorado Blvd, we decided we wanted to try something different. We both love Indian food, but I have a sensitive stomach, so sometimes Indian restaurants can be hit or miss for me. We decided to give Chak De California a try, and WOW! What a hidden gem. We've lived in Pasadena this whole time and somehow never knew this place existed. The moment we walked in, we noticed how beautiful the restaurant was. The decor is modern, stylish, and has such a warm vibe. The staff and who I believe was the owner were incredibly welcoming and kind. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the meat platter, and honestly, the food was incredible. The chicken tikka masala was hands-down the best I've ever had. The sauce is absolutely amazing, the meat was super tender, and even ordering it a little spicy didn't upset my stomach at all -- which tells me they're using really quality ingredients. Another thing we loved was the atmosphere. There was a DJ the Saturday night we went, and the music was such a cool mix of Bollywood, French house, and eclectic lounge vibes. It was chill, classy, and not overly loud or crazy. Super cute date night vibe. Overall, genuinely a 10/10 experience. I'm literally at home right now waiting for my chicken tikka masala on Postmates and felt the need to write this review immediately. Don't sleep on this restaurant, seriously go try it ASAP. Yes, the prices are a little on the higher side, but honestly, it feels justified because the quality is there.

And then there are restaurants that take you on a journey because you can taste and see the passion behind everything they do. This was unquestionably the latter. Five stars. And only five stars because I am incapable of giving it more. The food was exceptional, but the one thing that elevated the entire experience was the truly memorable hospitality during the evening. Our server, Raj, first took the time to get to know us. He did not simply take our order but he was intentional in learning about each of our very different palettes. He asked the right questions and guided us toward flavors and dishes that we probably would not have discovered or even ventured to on our own. Every recommendation was another success. He was knowledgeable, personable, incredibly attentive, and somehow managed to be present whenever he was needed without ever feeling intrusive. Beyond our table, the hospitality continued. The owner, Harsimran, made a point of coming over, visiting us, and making us feel genuinely welcome and cared for. Even the young woman who had been working the front, who held no responsibility or obligation to our table, was so charming and warm that she added something wonderful to the experience simply through the way she interacted with us. A cheery "welcome," a slight nod, a warm smile. It made all the difference. And then there was the food. Their spices are procured locally and ground in-house. The commitment to this kind of quality certainly shows in the final product. The attention to detail in this establishment is as impressive as I have encountered in any restaurant, and I have dined, and worked in many. Nothing felt out of place or arbitrary. Nothing felt auxiliary. There was absolute intention behind the ingredients, the preparation, the presentation, and the balance of flavors. You could taste the passion in every dish that reached the table and you could smell that same passion from each dish before you even saw it coming. The intoxicating aromas surrounded us like a gentle wind that we were happy to be stuck in. And I have to specifically mention the gulab jamun. Quite simply put, it was the best I have ever tasted-- and I have tasted many... my figure proves that. I would return to this location for this dish alone. But therein lies the problem with this place: you leave feeling completely satisfied while simultaneously thinking about everything you had not had the opportunity to try. Before you've even walked out the door, or even risen from your table, you're already planning your next visit because you have things that you know you're going to crave and others on the menu that you suddenly can't live without trying. For me, round two is already decided: a deep dive into their specialty halwa with house-made pistachio ice cream, made from locally sourced and hand selected pistachios. Exceptional food. Exceptional hospitality. Exceptional attention to detail. This is what a five-star dining experience should feel like, and I can't wait to return. Again, five stars only because I can't give it more.

Normally, I don't meander to this side of Pasadena, but it pays to explore once in awhile. There's street parking, some parking in the back, or if you really need to you can park across the street and walk over. It's pretty busy, even on a weekday at an off hour (between the lunch and dinner rushes). Walking in, despite having 2 floor cooling units, it was SUPER hot and humid. But people were still dining in, so I'm sure they have loyal customers or when the food hankering is that bad, the heat doesn't matter. Most of the food was moved to the back to survive the heat and it seemed like only one person was working at the time, so I had to ring the bell to summon them. Lady was curt, but clear in her explanations of the menu and how long it would take the food to be ready. I got some veggie samosas, but she also recommended that they come with something. I'm not entirely sure what it was, but I agreed since, sure why not. At the end of the day, I couldn't parse through the menu to really get an idea of what it was. Everything was VERY spicy or had a really sour (flavor profile, not that it went bad) taste to it. I enjoy spicy food, but it meant I couldn't really share with my family which sucked. Not that diverse of a flavor profile that I've had at other Indian restaurants before, so that was a bit disappointing. The fried exterior of the samosa was pretty good. The strange mix that came with it was a mix of spicy, sour, and really dry. The sauce that we got was a super tart vinegar kind of grape tasting sauce? Didn't really go great with anything in the order. Maybe what I ordered wasn't the right thing, but my experience was lukewarm at best.
