    Curry chicken

Been here many years ago and decided to come back for dinner with friends. I heard it's under new management but nothing has changed much and the food still very good. Spring Rolls: stuffed with pork and veggies and not too greasy. Nice crunch with each bite and the fish sauce was nicely balanced. Hanoi Crab Noodle Soup: full of tofu, crab pieces, and vermicelli in a tasty tomato broth. A big bowl of comfort food. Chicken Curry: the sauce was rich and full of flavour with a nice kick of spiciness. Saigon Rice Cake Omelette: lots of green and a crunch omelette filled with bean sprouts. Like making your own taco but with greens. We loved: the friendly service, lots of free street parking, cool playlist of music, portion size, value, equal amount of vegetarian dishes for my friend and meat for me, and the menu is not too big. Will be back!

Mom was craving for Viet food while visiting Vancouver Canada, search for it and recommendation from our friends, took a short Lyft here. Glad we did, with my cousins in tow, we ordered a bit of everything. Egg rolls was bomb good, crispy, meaty, and a perfect bite wit beer. Bò Bía, fresh rolls, lot of veggies, tightly rolled, peanut sauce, yummy. Bánh Bôt Chiên, taro flour cake with egg, more like a Chinese style, was quite good, a popular dish here. Bún Mang Vit, duck noodle soup and salad was generous portion, light and fresh, the ginger fish sauce was light, I could use more kick though! Bún Bò Huê' spicy lemongrass beef & pork noodle soup, was generous, not as spicy as I expected. This is a perfect noodle soup dish for the winter cold nights, beside Pho, of course! Hu Tíu Khô, dried noodle with prawn, meat, and all the goodies. This was the most popular dish here as I saw how many folks ordered it! Cafe by the owner is well known here. He's not here often but when he is here, ask for him to make you some, beside, he's charming and hella funny too! New owner, the food is changing slowly, and definitely for the better, check them out! If you are craving for Viet food while in Vancouver!!

    Seafood and pork noodle soup

Been to this place a couple of dozen times since it opened, I would say I have mixed feelings eating here. One thing for sure is that they have one of the better spring rolls, Phnom Penh rolls, and a couple of other nicely done dishes. This place has been around for a long time, started out with their location in Richmond. It was one of the nicer small cozy Vietnamese around that time, but definitely need some better AC. Stopped by a quick lunch on my day off and we ordered the following this time around; 1. Spring rolls. Nice light crisp skin with juicy moist meat filling. Tasty and well done. 2. Phnom Penh rolls. Fresh and tasty with a nice light crunch. Very refreshing indeed 3. House special pho. Meats were fresh, soup was hot and tasty, noodle was okay. Good portion for dinner but a little bit too much noodle for me for lunch. 4. Seafood and pork noodle soup. Tasty broth and a good amount of seafood. 5. Vietnamese slow dripped iced coffee. Came already for me in a glass with iced, I would preferred to have it slow dripped in front of me. Overall, a nice little Vietnamese restaurant to come to for some of their special dishes. I really like how they always give you fresh bean sprouts and not some broken recycled ones like some places do. However there are a little inconsistency in their service; sometimes good, sometimes whatever, sometimes anyone home, but most of the time it's decent. This time around a nice 3.5 stars.

Great atmosphere. Very spacious and has a vibe. The food were not terrible. Service was friendly. Lots of lights coming in to the place and my tummy. A good place for those who want something authentic.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and got the Spring Roll ($7.25), House Special Pho ($9.50), and Lemongrass Chicken ($10.50). It wasn't packed at that time and had a steady stream of customers coming in and out. The spring rolls were extremely greasy and we couldn't have had more than one piece as it really clogged up our throats with the amount of grease. It was also cold, super lumpy and not crispy at all. It was quite disappointing. The lemongrass chicken also tasted ratherly burnt which we did not finish either. The dish also claimed to come with broken rice, but it was definitely not broken rice that was on our plate. We had better luck with the pho, however, it wasn't by much. It was enjoyable, with the combination of MSG, the broth tasted good and there was a good amount of ingredients in it. It was quite a pricey lunch as we didn't get to finish much of our dishes.

Bun bo hue, spring rolls, bun rieu

Definitely start with the spring rolls, they're nice and crunchy with lots of meat. There's only one size for noodles & soup and it's a bit pricier than other pho restaurants, but the portions are huge. The bun bo hue was good, but I've had better in Vancouver. The bun rieu was really tasty with so much flavour. I made my partner trade for my bun bo hue lol.

Small Chicken pho with quail eggs, chicken balls and chicken $8

Choose your fighter . When you eat pho are you looking for a more umami taste that tingles your salivary glands or a sweeter, cleaner pho? I always judge a pho place by its house special and its chicken pho. I like a clean and clear broath that comes with goodies like quail eggs, chicken balls and chicken . At Green Lemongrass in Richmond the price difference between a small and large is only a $1 so its pretty inexpensive. The best time of day to get it is late night, because we found they tend to mess up our order during the lunch rush. We ordered a salad roll and then they gave us spring rolls, when we corrected them and then started eating. Near the end of the meal the salad rolls still weren't done being made so we just cancelled it altogether. The food is delicious, no doubt, but the service lacks desire so it's not something I'd go out of my way to get. All talk aside, if convenient I'd return because it honestly is tasty and affordable. 3.5/5

We were trying to get into Do Chay but the wait was too long so we headed over to one of their sister restaurants, Green Lemongrass. The same owner/family also run House Special (in Yaletown). They're next door to Bambu. The inside has been renovated and there's plenty of tables. Service is no frills; we had to flag down a waitress to attempt getting our teapot refilled. The menu is split into starters, pho, noodle, rice dishes, vegetarian, drinks, desserts and Vietnamese shakes. Prices are slightly higher than other Vietnamese spots in the area. Sad that their bun bo hue is crossed off the menu now. Trip #1 We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 6:15pm) and had our choice in seating. - Herbs - Thai basil, bean sprouts, red chili peppers and lemon wedges. Standard. - Phnom Penh rolls (A3) ($8.50) - Asian pork sausage, jicama, carrots, lettuce, caramelized onion and crushed peanuts. It came with a side of peanut sauce and bean sprouts/shredded carrot. Pork sausage was similar to lap cheung and the jicama added a nice crunch. Pricey for two rolls. - Ca ri ga (C8) ($14.00) - chicken curry with taro root and potato in a creamy coconut curry. This came with bowl of rice. N enjoyed her dish. - Bun rieu (N7) ($13.00) - Hanoi crab noodle soup. Minced crab, tofu and vermicelli in tomato broth. The broth was clean tasting. Crab came packed in rectangle format; break it apart yourself. Never seen it presented like that before. Pork hock, pork blood, tofu puffs and tomato were excellent. The only thing I wasn't satisfied with was the vermicelli noodles; too thin and no bite. Trip #2 - Herbs - bean sprouts, basil, lemon, jalapeno and saw tooth. Haven't seen saw tooth very often but I liked it (similar flavour to coriander). - Hu tieu sate (N6) ($13.00) - beef, tomato and rice noodle in a satay sauce. The sauce had an underlying, subtle heat to it. Good amount of beef along with a couple slices of tomato. Unfortunately, the noodles were overcooked; too soft and no bite or texture. The noodles didn't hold up. - Pho dac biet (P2) ($11.00) - rare round steak, beef brisket, beef balls, soft tendon and tripe. The broth was flavourful but leaned on the sweet side. The tendon was my favourite of the meats. Beef balls were not fresh. Beef slices cooked very quickly in the broth so beware, if you like yours on the rarer side. Again, the noodles weren't good. These ones clumped together in the bowl. - Pork satay & spring roll vermicelli (N9) ($13.00) - grilled pork and crispy spring roll served with vermicelli. B got this to go for lunch the next day. Decent eats at GL but not one of the Vietnamese spots on my return to list.

One of my favorite places for vietnamese food in Vancouver!! Our recent visit revealed a nice remodel of the space, newer vibe and some nice new editions to the menu as well. Overall execution of their food is on par each time and my regular eats are lemongrass chicken or pork vermicelli or rice plates. Its fresh, light, hearty and so delicious. Egg roll combo adds great crunch and flavors as well. My friends who love pho also enjoy the noodle soups here from regular pho, seafood, and a recent edition of braised duck with egg noodle. Definitely recommend checking it out!!

Came here to Green Lemongrass on a whim since the restaurant we were going to try was a bit of a dud. This part of Kingsway has a ton of Vietnamese restaurants so I was hoping to try some authentic food here. I decided to skip getting the classic pho and tried the bun rieu here instead. I thought that the bowl itself was a decent portion but there could have been a much stronger flavour to the broth. You could tell that they used crab but I found the taste to be a bit thin for my liking. The staff were nice however and the space itself was pretty decent, although it was a little drafty because they left the black door open. Overall, this place is not bad, but definitely is not super memorable when compared to the other places on Kingsway. This place is good for getting a quick fix of Vietnamese food but it may leave your tastebuds wanting a little more.

Green Lemongrass is a Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver that specializes in traditional Vietnamese dishes. It's a nice, laid back option that is near many other Asian places. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The restaurant itself is very simple yet clean. There are a variety of tables include a few large rounds in the back. But's it's pretty nondescript and there was little to set itself apart from any other restaurant. 1/2 Star. Service - We were there for a late lunch, so it was not too crowded. The staff was friendly and helpful, making plenty of recommendations. They were fast, courteous, and help with any special requests. Not spectacular but very solid. No complaints only positives. 1 Star. Food - We ordered a number of dishes. First of all, it was very traditional with great presentation. Our papaya salad with dried beef was a great starter, tasting nice and fresh. Our egg rolls were wrapped in rice paper (Vietnamese style) and taste great, but they were WAY to greasy. I went off the path and ordered grilled beef rib with vermicelli. The beef was a little tough and more Korean style, and I was hoping to have something more like grilled beef. Overall we enjoyed our meal and the prices were very reasonable so they get bonus. 1 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Maybe. Green Lemongrass was very good, it's just luck we found it. I just don't know if I would plan a trip here just to go. If I'm in the area, no doubt it's on the list, but Vancouver has so many options I would be hard pressed to return just to return. 1/2 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Yelp score

Pho Menu - price they showed on their website was $3 cheaper... :/

Biking in the rain to get here was worth it! (they even have a bike rack right in front of the door, kinda rare for Kingsway) Clean decent looking place with delicious food. We got the House Special Pho and Chicken Vermicelli, with an avocado smoothie on the side. Broth was perfect, rich and everything I want in pho. Spring rolls that came with the vermicelli were huge, crispy, and delicious. Avocado smoothie was creamy and huge too. Definitely worth the trip! If you're anywhere nearby, this is the pho place to go to in this part of Mount Pleasant. Sorry Pho Long and Nha Trang.

Place is medium sized and has parking at the front and back. So if you have a small-medium group larger than 4, this place would be able to accomodate. Ordered the lemongrass chicken, deep fried spring roll, pandan jelly and avocado milkshake. I would say they're decent. Not the best but not the worst. I would recommend other Vietnamese restaurants in the area.

A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality.
