Banh hoi, nem nuong, chao tom (#37) ($13.95)

There's plenty of Vietnamese competition in the area with Cafe Dang Anh, Hanoi Old Quarter, Hoang Yen, Viet Mama Cafe and Hoi An Cafe all in the vicinity. I'm not sure what La Maison Da Nang specializes in (Central Vietnamese food?) but they seem to do a bit of everything. I've been for lunch three times now. The inside is modern and bright; depending on where you sit, it can get very sunny. Service was friendly and food came out lightning quick. Make sure to ask if you want your bean sprouts cooked! The menu is large with appetizers, pho, mi quang/banh canh, vermicelli, clear rice noodles, rice plates, vegetarian and banh mi. Trip #1 - Herbs - bean sprouts, lime and cabbage/banana blossom/lettuce. - Banh canh da nang (#27) ($11.50) - noodles were thick, udon-like with a reasonably good spring to them. Wish there was more crab meat. Shrimp were tasty but the BBQ pork tasted like freezer burn. - Bun bo hue dac biet (#29) ($10.95) - the broth wasn't very spicy but interestingly had chili flakes. All the meats were enjoyable, particularly the beef. Their BBH won't blow you away but it was serviceable. Trip #2 - Bun rieu (#38A) ($10.95) - the broth was light but still had good depth to it. Liked that it came with pork blood, Vietnamese ham, tofu and crab. It was much more satisfying than the one we had at Viet Mama Cafe. - Bun thit nuong, cha gio (#35) ($10.95) - good crunch to the spring rolls but the filling was bland. The grilled pork was excellent. We don't order too many vermicelli bowls but this one was solid. - Banh hoi, nem nuong, chao tom (#37) ($13.95) - not sure I've seen this dish before. A good variety of herbs and lettuce to wrap your meat and vermicelli in. J didn't love the pork pieces but everything else he said was tasty. Trip #3 - Bun bo tai da nang (#28) ($10.95) - R really enjoyed his bowl. Had a taste of his broth; seemed spicier than than their BBH offering. - Bun cha ca da nang (#30) ($10.95) - quite a few things inside this bowl including bamboo shoots, taro stem, tomato, cabbage, pickled pepper, dill and even a couple pieces of pineapple. Broth is on the lighter/cleaner side with a subtle underlying sweetness. Will come back to LMDN. Reasonable prices. 3.5 stars.

I was going to Hoang Yen but I gave up seeing the long line up. I ended up having my lunch @ La Maison Danang Vietnamese Restaurant Da Nang Udon comes with Rice Noodles, crab meat, char siu/BBQ pork, Vietnamese ham, pock hock meat, shrimp and boiled quail egg in soup. The soup base is like curry satay with some spices. It is basically short rice noodles kind of like soft Chinese Lai Fun. It's good to try other regions of Vietnamese food. Vegetarian menu (2 of 2)

There are so many Vietnamese/pho places on this stretch of Victoria Dr, but few of them are veggie-friendly (Chau Veggie being the obvious exception). When I discovered this place had a separate vegetarian section, I decided to try them out. They have 4 different veggie noodle soups (regular pho, tomato pho, spicy pho, and and an udon that's identical to the pho other than the noodles) -- each currently $15.95 plus tax and tip). I ordered the tomato pho (bún riêu chay), since this is a less commonly found soup in veggie form. The soup came out in about 10 minutes. It came with deep fried tofu, veggie ham (just a few slices), mixed veggies (a couple pieces each of broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, bok choy, king oyster and shiitake mushrooms), one piece of tomato, even some pineapple, and slightly-wider-than-usual vermicelli. The broth, I must say, tasted a bit fishy, but they assured me it was veggie broth -- odd. I amped it up with chili oil and their garnishes (which included more than usual: mint, basil, bean sprouts, green and purple cabbage, lemon). Everything was pretty satisfying other than that odd broth character that I managed to cover over with chili oil and garnishes. The interior is much more modern and polished than your typical hole-in-the-wall pho place (nothing wrong with that style), so it's a bit more comfortable. Good spot but there are better veggie options in town.

Overall: it was just okay. There's too much competition on the same block that have very good reputations that just OK is not good enough. It was FREEZING COLD in there. Service was meh, only one young boy who said he was pretty new to the job. The da nang soup was my favourite, seems like it's a specialty there and I would recommend it. Otherwise the other two appys were nothing special, both lacked filling. I've had better at other places. I also read they use very little MSG to be healthier which is good for people who dislike MSG but I'm not trying to eat out to be HEALTHY so give me that GOOD STUFF LOL

I went here on Aug 18th (Tuesday) for Vietnamese food fix. I really wanted Bun Cha for my lunch and something else caught my eye off the menu. Never heard or tried #37 Banh Hoi ($13.95) it was similar to Bun Cha from Hanoi. Long menu got my overwhelmed at first since I love BanhMi, Pho and Bun Cha and almost everything looked good. Waitress helped me answering my question on BanhHoi and the Bun Cha(dipped noodle with meat and spring roll) on the menu. She was very informative and friendly. #37 is a popular dish from DaNang according to what she said. This dish was quite impressive it came with variety of leafy veggies and meats. Meats were fresh and tender. I'm not sure if beef was in it, but skewered pork was tender and yummy. It also had chargrilled BBQ flavour. Shrimp with sugarcane was pretty good just that sugarcane was hard to eat. I nibbled a bite to squeeze the sugarcane juice. My dish was hearty and refreshing overall. Perfect summer dish I would say! It also felt like Vietnamese style of lettuce wrap with noodles and meat. I want to try different dishes next time; thank you, LMDN! I left the restaurant feeling full that day.

Tasty Vietnamese place in the new building on the corner. Parking is available on Victoria as well as the side streets. Staff were friendly and helpful. Inside is bright and modern. It is a brand new building after all. Plenty of windows. Spring rolls here are short and stubby. 1 order contains 3 spring rolls (6 pieces). Nice fluffy batter. Tastes authentic. I also had the #49 combo. Lemon grass pork chop is nice and moist and not too greasy. Shredded pork is really fragrant and is one of the better ones I've tasted around town. Special mention. Egg is served in round form. Comes with fish sauce as well as soup. The soup is not the MSG (similar to wonton soup) type at all. It's a more bland (not a bad thing at all) homemade variety, the kind someone's mother might serve at a friend's house. The place does have a sign on the front counter saying they go easy on the MSG. Lastly, the salad consists of some shredded lettuce and carrots (non pickled), and some cucumber and tomato slices. I must say the food here is very good and authentic. My friends agree at well. My understanding is that this place also offers a lot of other local dishes that aren't too common around town. Will be back to try those too. Recommended.

Been eyeing this place since it opened many months ago in a new building. What intrigued me is the possibility of another Vietnamese regional restaurant. Da Nang is in Central Vietnam and very close to my favourite eating city of Hoi An. Today I stopped by for lunch with a friend. We were greeted and seated immediately. In reviewing the menu I was happy to see a regional noodle. We ordered: #26 Mi Quang: Da Nang shrimp, pork, quail egg and veggies. This is not a soup like Pho but a savoury sauce to coat the noodles. It had a little hot sauce kick with intense pork stock. This was my favourite dish and will be coming back to order this. It reminded me of my all time favourite cao lau noodles from Hoi An. #35 Bun with grilled pork, spring roll, vermicelli and veggies. It was ok as it think I had better elsewhere. Nothing to special to note but it's a classic. Don't think I'll order this again. Mimi Shrimp Pancakes: crispy on the outside, soft inside. A hint is sweetness upon first bite but finished with a savoury note. Served with lettuce and assorted herbs so you can make a mini wrap. Really liked it. Vietnamese Ice coffee: not on the stronger side as I'd preferred but still refreshing on a hot day. Overall, the place is clean and modern, service was friendly and fast, food nicely plated, and offers a good regional noodle dish.

La Maison Da Nang is definitely one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. I came here with a group of friends. I ordered a number 35 - grilled pork, fried roll vermicelli and we shared the chicken wings (fish sauce) and the banh xeo. Food portion is at the smaller end but the food was super delicious. This is one of the few restaurants that offers banh xeo. The banh xeo took the longest to make. However, the portion size looked ok. It was super delicious. The pancake was super crispy and flavorful. The chicken wings were really tasty as well. It was a tiny bit over cooked. The flavor was quite apparent. I really liked it. My vermicelli was superb delicious. They gave me enough fish sauce for my vermicelli. This was great, I am so glad I didn't have to call them over for more. Portion size was ok but it was definitely smaller than other Vietnamese restaurants. The vermicelli came with spring rolls. The spring rolls were nice and crunchy. Overall, food was very tasty. The decor is definitely way nicer than 95% of the Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. This is probably because it is in a new building. Also note that there are many free parking in the area.

I like how we are getting more Vietnamese restaurants which serve more than the typical pho and rice rolls here. Victoria Drive has several Vietnamese restaurants within 2 blocks that you can eat there for a week and not hit the same joint. This place is clean and bright. Covid safety protocols are observed, and sometimes that means the staff may not notice you if you are tucked in a corner. There is banh xeo here which is not commonly found in vancouver. It is delicious. The crepe is a bit crispy and gives a slight crunch in texture. It is big enough to share among 2-3 people. I also like the chicken wings. I had the lemongrass chicken on rice which was nice but not that fantastic. Besides pho, there are other noodle dishes here including the ones with crab meat and fishcake soup. The menu is interesting enough that I will want to go back to try other dishes and get more of the Banh xeo and chicken wings. I heard the coffee is good too.

I always wanted to try this place so I popped in yesterday to order takeout. I didn't realize they have quite a menu (for a Vietnamese restaurant) so I took a few minutes to decide. I ordered the Mi Quang with prawns, pork chop on rice, salad rolls, noodles with fish cakes and a Vietnamese iced coffee. The server said that it will take 25 minutes so I went to do some grocery shopping while they prepared the food. What I like: Mi Quang - flavourful sauce, perfect noodle texture. Pork chop on rice - meat was slightly dry but still good and I loved the broken rice Stay away from: Iced coffee (took them forever to make it but it tasted weird and too much ice), Salad rolls - average but peanut sauce was too watery, Fish cakes with vermicelli (not a fan), the soup was very strange with cabbage and carrots (there is another elite yelper who feels the same way) Anyway, I will definitely return to this establishment. Like I said, there were many items I would love to try. Service was friendly and genuine.

We knew this was a new Vietnamese restaurant and it was close to home, so we gave it a try. We came on a Sunday afternoon. It was not too busy before noon. We seated right away. A server brought us a couple of hot water. One cup of hot water looked fine as the water was transparent but the other cup of hot water was yellowish! my guess was the hot water was mixed with tea but we requested hot water. The server should not bring a cup of clear water and a cup of yellowish or orangey colour of water to us. She should have changed it before serving the customers. We ordered the salad rolls and two bowls of #28 spicy rare beef, Vietnamese ham and beef balls with vermicelli in soup. The sauce or dip for the salad rolls should taste like peanut flavour, however, I couldn't taste any peanut flavour at all it was so different from the salad rolls that I had at other Vietnamese restaurants. The bowl of spicy beef noodles was fine. The table had a small sign and said they would use very little MSG but I still felt very thirty after lunch. The pricing is reasonable. There is street parking near the restaurant. The restaurant is kind of spacious that it has many tables and chairs. The food came out quickly once we ordered it. However, based on the food quality that I had, I would probably not come back and I would eat Vietnamese food at other restaurants as Lower Mianland has many options. I saw some people rated this restaurant high. They might order other dishes that tasted more delicious than what I ordered.

We recently tried out La Maison DaNang for the first time. We were actually supposed to go to Hoang Yen but the lineup was way too long and it was -8C out and we were like nope aint waiting. Did some googling and this place came up and it was just down the block. Thought we found a gem - the food tasted great, prices are very cheap compared to most other good Viet rest and the interior was clean and minimalistic. Although the food was good we kind of left with a sour taste because half our food came super late. We had 4 people with us and two got their food fast but mine and another didn't come until after the two had already finished their dishes:/ We got kind of annoyed since we waited over 40 minutes for our food and when the last noodle soup order came they got the order wrong. We ended up just taking it anyway because no point in waiting even longer. Service is extremely slow. Would have been an amazing experience if not for that (since the food was delicious). We ate: -lemongrass chicken, minced pork meat, shrimp wrapped in sugarcane, spring-roll vermicelli bowl -lemongrass chicken + fried egg w/ rice -bun rieu -pho special (not pictured)

35A lemongrass chicken with fried spring roll over vermicelli
    Jennifer T.

I think most people come here because the line next door is too long. Got the #35A - lemongrass chicken and fried spring roll over vermicelli, and it was very mediocre. The chicken itself was decent but a little burnt at the bottom, and a little bit on the dry side. This whole dish is supposed to be dry until you add the nuoc cham but for some reason it was a bit wet, probably from the veggies not being dried enough. The worst part however was the nuoc cham which was watery and didn't have enough flavor. I have Vietnamese food every so often and this is probably the worst nuoc cham I've ever had. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing and should have gotten pho instead, or maybe I should have just gone to any of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area.

A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth.
