I ordered the beef rib pho, which also came with beef balls and slices of beef. The broth was tasty and clear, and the sliced beef was tender. This is one of the most expensive Vietnamese restaurants I've been to, and it's definitely not in my top three. The fried chicken wings were a little too salty, but really good. Very crispy and juicy. My bo luc lac was good as well. The cherry tomatoes were a nice addition, the onions weren't too raw, and the meat was tender and yummy. There wasn't enough sauce though as there was a lot of rice and it was very plain because they don't give nuoc mam. They gave some kind of salt nuoc mam dip instead, which I didn't like too much. The pho soup was pretty good -- rich with some depth. A little too salty. Service was very slow despite the restaurant being pretty empty. Decided to go to CoM Vietnamese because my friends and I wanted a nicer pho/Vietnamese food place that was not a quick in and out (e.g., Thai Son, Lotus, etc.). There's free parking for 2 hours in the back parking lot. We went on a Sunday night and there were only a few tables besides us. Restaurant was spacious and overall quiet and servers allowed us to sit for quite a long time (provided that we did order a lot of food haha!). We each ordered one of their noodles and shared their chicken wings. Their chicken wings are actually really really good. I would compare it (almost) to Phnom Penh's wings - the perfect balance of crispy and juicy meat! We actually ordered 2 rounds of this (one each of the chili fish sauce and butter garlic) because it was so good! For noodles, I decided to get the Hu Tieu as it isn't commonly available at other Pho restaurants. I think it was just okay - portions are quite large but you are paying over $20 for a bowl. Found it slightly bland and the sliced pork belly wasn't all that tender. It's a pricy restaurant for what you get but the atmosphere is much more relaxing and laid-back than other conventional pho restaurants. This Vietnamese restaurant has lush interior, high ceiling throughout. Space is nice decorated. Parking is in an adjacent building. We walked in on a Saturday evening and we're seated right away. Staff was friendly and attentive. *Chicken Wings (caramelized chili fish sauce): so crunchy, taste of fish sauce is very distinct. I could have this as for main dish. Love it! *Bún Bò Hûe: soup was rich and delicious although portion was small. *Tô Tô Special: this dish of grilled meats (pork belly, beef & chicken) is marinated perfectly! *Crispy Yellow Croaker with Mango Salad: this new item on the menu is worth trying. Fish is fried so crispy to the bones. My only comment is that sauce was poured on the plate and made this dish a bit too salty to eat. I'd prefer it served on the side. We came to CoM Vietnamese for lunch on a Monday morning at around 11:30am and the restaurant wasn't busy. The crowds started to roll in at around 1:30pm. The restaurant was nice, clean and modern. Seating is comfortable. We mainly ordered pho and the noodles were very delicious. -Phở Bò - 4 stars - a little salty but very good. -Bún Bò Huế - 5 stars - delicious, spicy kick and tasty. Best pho noodle I've had in my life. -Thai Style Vermicelli Noodle Soup - 5 stars - delicious. Love the spicy kick. (My Viet friends, stop your caravan, take a break at the nail or hair salon or mushroom farms and correct me if I am wrong, thank you). I have been here when it was first opened and I wasn't impressed at all. It was jacked up and hyped up by a few foodies who thinks a turkey is a peacock during the Autumn season. Anyways, I heard it had gotten better over the years so back to give it a 2nd shot (). Here were the food I ordered; 1. Crab spring rolls. It was okay, nothing to wow about. (Maybe because it became a generic item on the Vietnamese menu, I had better ones). 2. Papaya salad. This one was pretty good; decent amount of each ingredients and the sauce was well balanced. 3. Shaken beef (Bo Luc Lac). The cubed beef were nicely pan fried, tender and caramelized but abit too much oil (as you can see on the pic without me touching it and not enough juicy sauce.. gotta shake that meat more!) 4. Pho Bo. The soup was hot and tasty, the noodle was cooked right but the beef was a bit tough and on the thicker side (beef needs to be sliced thinner, could get choked). 5. Stone bowl pho. The broth was pretty tasty and definitely stayed hot for a long time. I kind of screwed up and dumped everything in all at once (don't always have time to foreplay with the meat) resulting in certain meats overcooked especially when I am a slow eater. But honestly, besides the stone bowl I didn't find much difference between this and a bowl of regular pho other than paying more. Overall, the restaurant was pretty clean with a good amount of spacing between tables. It's a pretty cozy little space with a casual atmosphere. There's a free parking garage for customers at the side of the building, make sure to register your parking inside the restaurant. The service was okay, pretty standard and nothing to complain about. Plus there were only 3 or 4 tables only. As for the food; the broth for both of the soup were pretty hot and tasty, but meats were a bit on the tougher side, the salad and roll was decent. I don't understand how the prices are steep for very mid quality. The meat was very dense, and their fish sauce was too sweet. Really nicely setup with extremely high ceilings and a lush interior, not like your standard Vietnamese hole in the wall. I saw that they had a sizeable vegetarian section menu, which is what brought me in. They have a pho chay (veggie pho; $18.50 plus tax), so I gave that a try. My soup came out in about 10 minutes. The soup came with tofu sheet, fried tofu skin, veggies (broccoli, green cabbage, carrot, white mushrooms), and noodles in a gentle mushroom breath. The broth was pleasant, not that rich, but not water or boring. It was amplified nicely by their homemade chili oil. Everything was very tasty without being amazing, though I did really like the tofu varieties in here. Good, friendly service. $18.50 makes this one of the priciest veggie pho in Greater Van, so I can't say it's good value for money. But at least the quality is good. While we appreciate the ambience, the clean decor, and diverse menu, the portion sizes for the noodle soups only came in one standard sizing unlike the small medium large options at the typical pho spots so the items were a bit small for family members who had bigger appetites. I got the Bun Bo Hue as that is typically my go-to order when I try new spots. The soup was lighter, cleaner, barely had the chilli oil film, and lacked the usual meats that you would see in bun bo hue which was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. Overall, while this may be a great spot for a first date or first timer's experience to Vietnamese cuisine, the food was pricey for the typical standard Vietnamese items that we got like pho and vermicelli bowls. Free 3 hour parking beside the restaurant so very convenient but walking distance to bus stops and the skytrain station for people who don't drive. We later saw the closed off section was used for the staff to have their meals. Food price is higher than your regular Vietnamese restaurant. Nothing fancy stood out. Order a bowl of pho, spring roll and the com special. They don't provide bean sprouts with the pho or siracha/hoisin sauce. So don't expect it. They do give you pickled garlic. I can finish a whole plate by myself :) very crispy and juicy inside, a hint of sweet, hint of butter and garlic. So yummy! The crepe was nice, a bit on the messy and oily side as you wrap it with lettuce and eat with your hands mostly, with the fish sauce it was good. I found it a bit too much beansprouts inside with nothing much else. $19 The pate with bread was so-so. Nice presentation, there was a hot plate with several fries, pate, slices of meat and a sunny side egg in it. The bread was very crunchy. But we won't order it again. $19 We ordered pho as well since we wanted to try their broth. It was nice and clear, not as salty as some of the other place. About $14 Wanted to try the flan as it sounds really good with cream and light Vietnamese coffee. Was good, but not a must-have item. $6 We finished lunch for 4 people for about $80 dollars. My gf and I ordered 3 dishes, all were delicious but oh my - we each paid about $26 which was pricey. CoM is a new addition to Richmond's deep Asian food landscape. Clean and modern with great ambience. Nice attention to detail down to the beautiful dinnerware. We ordered a little bit of everything to get an idea of the overall quality and taste of the menu - pork spring rolls, wings with caramelized fish sauce and garlic, green papaya salad, Bun Bo Hue, beef To To, Vietnamese crepe, and Cari Ga (curry). Overall we were pleased with the freshness, presentation and of course the taste of everything. The seasoning was well balanced and the addition of fresh herbs always makes things pop. If you have an MSG sensitivity you'll be glad to know they do not use it in any of their dishes. (I have yet to try the ubiquitous beef pho which is my standard measurement for Vietnamese restaurants but will report back soon.) One of the partners came by to introduce himself and he was clearly excited about his new venture. I am excited for him as I really think they did a great job of changing things up with the Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond. I have always said we need a "high-end" version in this city. Speaking of high end, don't expect "hole in the wall" prices. This place is clearly positioned as upscale with the focus on quality ingredients in each dish. The atmosphere is trendy and would be a good spot for an evening out with friends as they do have a cocktail and drink menu to compliment the food. Being raised in a Vietnamese household, I don't often go out to get Vietnamese food. When this place popped up in Richmond, I had to check it out because you don't often see modern aesthetics paired with this kind of food. Servers were friendly, the ambiance was bumping, to a point where I attempted to Shazam some of the songs but the remixed songs on their playlists were too obscure for me to find. Overall, the food was well done. I had their version of the classic bún bò huê and it was decently done. I did not come in expecting authentic Vietnamese food but it was good nonetheless. We ordered the Pho Saigon ($14), To To Special ($19.50) and Seafood Spring Roll ($4.25). The first two items arrived in reasonable time. The pho broth was flavourful without being too greasy. The steak and beef brisket slices were good. However, I miss the beef balls, tendon and tripe found at other restaurants. There was a good amount of noodles and noodles had a good chew. The To To Special had grilled chicken, pork and beef. It was a good way to try a variety of meats. The organic egg was fried sunny side up and I like a runny yolk over rice. The kitchen forgot to make the spring roll and we asked staff where was our order. We were done eating by the time the spring roll arrived. The spring roll reminded me of Chinese deep fried wontons with mayonnaise. I could taste mainly shrimp with a bit of crab. It as unfortunately cold in the centre so it appeared the kitchen rushed deep frying the spring roll. Given with the growing competition of newly opening restaurants left & right: I get dizzy just thinking about how many options are popping up in the lower mainland. One of Richmond's more aesthetic Vietnamese restaurants. While a bit on the pricier side, the food is decent and the service is straightforward. CoM is a spacious, contemporary-looking, and well-decorated restaurant right on the corner of Alderbridge Way and Lansdowne Rd in Richmond. Since it was my first time visiting this establishment, I opted for street parking which was about $4.00/1.5 hrs. Little did I know (cause I'm an idiot), there's actually 3 hour free parking in the parkade of the same building so don't make the same mistake that I did - don't pay for parking, there's no need! Anyway, my party of two was immediately seated upon arrival and were brought drinks and cutlery without delay. The menus were a simple double-sided piece of paper, presenting mostly typical, but well-known Vietnamese dishes as well as a few in-house specialties. Being Vietnamese myself, I opted to go for classic menu items to see how CoM would fare on my first visit. Also, since the restaurant is named after "com" which is also the Vietnamese word for "rice", I decided to order a rice entree. Here are the items that I ordered: 1) Cha Gio (Pork Spring Roll) - $8.75 for six pieces (three rolls cut in half), very nice fish sauce for dipping, small portions 2) Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup) - $15.25, decent portion and excellent ratio of meat to noodles, soup is decent, but nothing special, a little on the sweet side and a bit too much MSG 3) To To Special (essentially a big chicken, beef, and pork rice plate with a fried egg on top, served with some cut up cucumber and pickled vegetables) - $19.75, filling, tasty, overall flavour palette is on the sweet side if you add too much of the fish sauce, I also like how the meat is served already cut into bite sized pieces One interesting thing that I found was the presence of a coconut element in the spring rolls. As soon as I bit into a piece of the spring roll, which was hot and crispy, my tongue was unexpectedly greeted by what I believe to be the rice paper, but which had been given a bath in either coconut milk or coconut water prior to being set in the deep fryer. This is a very unique Southern Vietnamese cooking technique that not very many other Vietnamese restaurants employ - at least, none that I have been to anyway. Another thing that I really liked about this meal was the portion sizes. Except for the order of spring rolls which had only three small spring rolls per order, I found the rice dish to be quite filling. As a guy who is 5'9", 190lbs, athletic build, I left the restaurant feeling quite full after finishing my To To Special. The ratio of meat to rice was great, and the ratio of meat to noodles in the Bun Bo Hue was also very nice. Now, on to the things I didn't like to much: I found the soup of the Bun Bo Hue to have MSG - some people won't mind this, of course, and that's not a huge issue and certainly not the biggest of my gripes with CoM. My biggest no-no with CoM is the final bill that you'll have at the end of your meal. For myself and one other person to have lunch, the total bill came out to over $53.00 after tips. To me, that's a bit much even though the quality was good, and I think that the dishes I ordered didn't truly live up to the price tag that was on them. (Also... $20.00 for an order of Banh Xeo??? Yes, the food was good, but if you're looking for a decent Vietnamese meal that won't break the bank, and you don't really care about the atmosphere, then maybe CoM won't be the right place to eat all for you if you're not willing to pay a little extra. That being said, if you're not concerned with finances, you like to enjoy the dining atmosphere overall, and want some very good Vietnamese food, CoM is definitely a good choice to go with, and is probably one of the most pleasant Vietnamese restaurants in Richmond to be in. The arrangement of plants, flowers, and trees as well as the furniture really made me feel welcome and comfortable as I had my meal. Food is good...nothing super special but pricing is a bit high. I wish they have more options to their noodle menu. Service is good. Spacious area with plenty of seating. There's free parking in the building where the restaurant is located. Entrance to the parkade is just slightly past their main entrance. I ordered their PHO SAIGON noodles...good. This is the Anh and Chi for Richmond. If you feel like ordering one bowl for pho for under $10, then this may not feel like a place where you get value for money. When we opened the doors we were greeted right away. The decor was tasteful. High tops, round tables and a light wooden bar made us think of coming back if the food tasted good with both family and friends. And we will, because: 1) The Owner recommended sweet and crunch papaya salad with prawns, pork, peanuts and I think tamarind (tangy but not too acidic like other places). This might be my go-to place for any future craving for papaya salad. 2) He also recommended Chili fish sauce chicken wings that reminded us of Phnom Penh with its own personality. I wouldn't say they taste better, or spark as much nostalgic joy, but that's probably because it doesn't have the water-downing MSG-after-effect. Definitely would order this again. 3) We also ordered the Bún bò Hue which was a decent size, not too spicy (I added the extra Chili oil they gave us after we ordered with every bite I stole from my partner). Next time we come, I'd try the Pho Ga that the owner recommended as well, that comes with free range chicken. 4) On the menu, the seafood spring roll with crab caught my eye. It's pricey at $4.25 but worth trying at least once! It's 1-2 bites of no-regret. In general, we don't mind paying extra $ for quick. and friendly service, art-like interior design (brought to you by the same design studio that did the decor for Savio Volpe, The Botanist, Kissa Tanto and Bao Bei), as well as thoughtful No-MSG food. CoM Vietnamese has been on our "must go" list for a while now and today seemed right to "CoM" and give it a try (haha I'll show my self out....) Arriving at the restaurant we were pleasantly surprised to see free parking was offered around back, which is quite hard to find in the area! We were promptly greeted as we walked in and our server was not far behind to get us started with any drinks. We were quite hungry so my girlfriend ordered the Hù Tiêu Khô, I got the Bún Bò Huê and we shared a side of Chà Giò. I also got an Iced coffee made with condensed milk but they had the option to put coconut milk instead. Food came super fast and the first thing you notice is the presentation was great! The look as well as the taste was also very good. The soup was nice and hot and was packed full of flavour and the right amount of spice. The spring rolls were cooked to perfection with lots of filling and they were very crispy even after the last roll was watts . The iced coffee was also very good, not too sweet and not too bitter so it complimented everything! Overall we were very pleased with the service as well as the food and quality CoM has to offer. The server was very nice and even made sure we had a pleasant dining experience since it was our first time there.
