My friend took me here and we each order the House Special. This is my favourite pho in town. I do not prefer beef as my protein but have learned to enjoy the odd beef broth here and there. This is one that does not taste beefy and in fact, when I brought another friend here recently, she commented how 'clean' and tasty the soup is. She was surprised I am drinking the soup as she has known me to not like the smell of beef. It is a healthy size. We ordered the fish cake seafood noodle soup and the spicy hue lemongrass beef noodle soup. Food here is very affordable and DELICIOUS. I ordered the duck breast with coconut curry and my partner had the pork belly rice bowl. Both came out fast and were presented beautifully. Service was good but we were left waiting a bit for our server to check on us / take dishes / pay the bill. I'm unsure if that is just a Canadian thing? I've had this happen a few times. One of a few Vietnamese places along this stretch of Cambie. Parking is available on the side streets. The inside is fairly cozy looking. Cool looking traditional hats on the wall. Staff are friendly. The food quality here is decent, but the bowls are disappointingly small. Probably one of the smallest bowls I've seen in town. There is no larger size (only 1 size available), and it wasn't cheap. Knock 1 star off. Looking at the other reviews, looks like I'm not the only one who feels this way. This is a real shame, as the quality is actually decent. Buddy and I left hungry. Came here on an off Wednesday after 9 and was lucky to have been seated right away for a relatively large party. This place got packed by the time we left closer to 11. Good signs for a small shop in cambie village. I took a quick look at the menu to find no Vietnamese references to their classic dishes, but rather a thoroughly descriptive menu in lieu of - no going to lie, I was a bit hesitant about the authenticity of the food. I order the BBH (referenced as the spicy Hue style noodle) on the menu. I was surprised that the noodle came out piping hot, excellent on a brisk cold day. We were served with the classic sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño slices and lime on the side which I dunk into my hot soup. The noodles portion was smaller than expected, served with a nice mix of meats - a series of noodle slurps and the dish was demolished. I actually enjoyed aromatics and slight sweetness of the soup over the noodles itself or the meats. I was surprised to find decent Vietnamese noodles for late night! We were deciding on whether to go to Pho Xe Lua one block over or try here. We googled the prices and it was slightly cheaper here. However, the portions are so small. We got the chicken vermicelli bowl which was already $14 and it doesn't come with a spring roll like other places. If you want one, you'll need to add $4 and it is half the size of other places. Taste was just as other places. The pork banh mi was also very small with one thin slice of pork for $7.25. Taste was also similar to other places. The prices here are really expensive with small portions and the taste did not justify the prices. I would rather go down 1 block and eat at Pho Xe Lua. read more

Tradition getting together with modern creating interesting and really tasty dishes. I have walked by Viet House numerous times and now no more. My new go to place on cold rainy days for noodle soup or a fast bite to eat. This month, I been there twice in one week. What I enjoyed: Five Spices Duck Breast. Panned seared and cooked to perfection. So easy to cut into and flavours bursts in your mouth. Pork Belly on Rice. So tender the pork belly melted in my mouth. The sauce is delicious on the rice. Spicy Hue Lemongrass Beef Noodle Soup. The spice level can be adjust from mild to hot. Broth was very clean and lots of beef pieces. The other dishes we had were Coconut Curry with Chicken, House Special Pho, and Crispy Chicken Wings (You can ask for both sauces: sriracha and BBQ and not just one) were all good but not my top marks. Services was fast and nice they leave a bottle of water on the table. Viet House is one of a few restaurants on Cambie Street that is open late (Sunday to Thursday 11am-12am; Friday to Sunday 11am-2am). Ordered take out from here today and ordered quite a few appetizers and some dishes as well. The prices here are not too high and their portions are quite reasonable as well with a large menu of dishes that you don't see at most vietnamese places. We started off with the deep fried wontons, spring rolls and chicken wings. The wontons were filled with pork and were fried extremely crisp without being too oily, making them a huge hit! The spring rolls were a little boring and overpriced but the chicken wings were also quite tasty! The chicken satay was also expensive but very flavourful and the meat was juicy and not too fatty. The house special pho was a good price for the amount of noodles and meat as well as a nice variety. The broth was too salty for me though and a few sips was already too much. The pork in the grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli bowl was thin cut without bone so the portion was quite small and ate a little bit dry but again, a large bed of vermicelli, which were a bit hard and dry. Finally, the chicken coconut curry had lots of vegetables and chicken pieces AND came with rice (which was a surprise!) It was spicier than expected but very flavourful and not too heavy. Overall, the prices are not low, but not unreasonable either and the food is quite tasty! My partner and I checked this place out after catching a movie at the theatre next door. We found the service to be quite slow, I know they got quite busy at once so it was quite the wave which I can understand can be difficult but the pace never picked up even when it died down. We enjoyed our soup, I got the chicken pho and my partner the hot and sour pho. The chicken chunks were big and juicy which I enjoyed as sometimes the chicken is dry and very thin in others. I also loved the fresh basil and lime on the side. After we were finished we just wanted the bill and it took about 15-20 to get the attention of someone who was working there which was frustrating. The food not we're ordering didn't even tasted that great. We're egg rolls came out with out veggies, BBH with meatballs and quails eggs. My bún cá tasted bland. The veggie pho is $15 plus tax, and to add tofu is $4 for 4 pieces of tofu (what a ripoff). The broth is pleasant and is amped up nicely with the chili oil, and you get a nice portion of mixed veggies and well-cooked noodles. But the value is bad given the middling quality. There are much better pho places in town for veggie pho. Just walk over to Main and try them (Pho Goodness, Ivy, Bon Cafe, etc.). Skip this one. read more

Nice casual ambiance restaurant. Good service and good food at a great price. The food is not typical Vietnamese, as there is somewhat of a fusion flair included. The food presentation is clean and almost French like. This is not the place if you are looking for typical or traditional Vietnamese food in which the flavors tend to be more intense. Nonetheless, the food is still good and well presented. We had the Lemongrass Chicken over rice and a sandwich. Plus we had fried banana with ice cream for desert. When stated "fresh avocado smoothie" you don't envision an avocado icy.. which was what I received. I love pho, and growing up in Van, i know pho places. In conparison to most pho shops, this is a pretty clean, cozy, nicely lit and decorated pho shop. I liked all the bamboo hats they had on the wall. Nice personal touch to the shop. I had the house special pho #17 along with the crispy chicken wings. The order came fairly quick, piping hot, and i wouldnt have wanted it any other way on a cold day. The soup was a nice clear, flavorful stock, filled with tripe, brisket, meatballs, and rare beef ( pleeennnty of meat ). Inparticular, i like how all the rare beef is piled up so that its above the soup, and individuals can choose to dip it in the soup, and cook it to their preference. Also, each bowl of soup comes with their own personal amount of basil and uncooked bean sprouts which was nice (usually comes shared between a table). We also ordered the crispy chicken wings, comes with a sauce, akin to spicy mayo. They came hot, had a nice flaky batter to them, allowing us to really focus on the chicken which was actually nice and juicy!! Overall, the restaurant had a really good warm, cozy vibe to it, playing Vietnamese music for most of the duration we were there. A step above most pho shops in Vancouver for sure. It wasn't your typical Vietnamese restaurant with lots of different pho options. They only had a house special pho but, I personally don't like some of the things in a house special so, I went for a Bún bò Huế ( spicy noodle soup) They gave us Luke warm water. I hate Luke warm water specially while eating something hot. I need my water cold and ice would be nice. Lol my own personal pet peeve at restaurants. Just saying. My Bún bò Huế was nice looking it looked like it was going to be very flavourful and the bowl it came in was pretty. Unfortunately it was lacking some flavour and even spice. It was on the bland side. They also give you a small bowl with a teenie dot of hoison a lot of chilli oil and siracha. I just asked for one with hoison. I love this place! Another great Viet restaurant in the Cambie village area - I prefer this place over the pho place down the street for 2 reasons: they serve alcohol and they accept cards! I got a salted plum mojito and it was probably the best mojito in my life! A well balanced flavour of salt and sweetness. My bf got bun how hue and I tried some and it was delicious! Strong hue flavour and plenty of topings. I got the grilled pork chop with a fried egg and I was disappointed because it wasn't flavoured with lemongrass and the meat was a bit dry for my liking. A little bit disappointed in this spot. I asked for bun bo hue and specifically asked to hold the ham and all pork meat. Server said yes no problem and came back there was the meat. It's more so I don't like wasting food and when I said to the server: " is this pork meat"? She said yes, and gave me the look like what's the problem. I said to her I asked for no pork meat. I'm actually really glad I didn't have cash on me today and the other pho restaurant just a few doors down only takes cash. This restaurant is clean, the background was like one of my old school hip-hop playlist (real hip-hop, not mumble rap or gangsta rap, real hip-hop). All the ladies (waitresses) were attentive and quick to respond to the needs of patrons without hoovering around. I ordered the house special pho and it was the best pho I've had, even outranking my usual spot in East Van. The broth was very clean and not just a greasy mess. From speaking with one of the waitresses she also told me that their curry won 2nd best in all of the lower mainland. I'm going to have to come back and try that. I didn't order anything to drink however they do have a wine list. There is paid street parking in front and also a bus stop I believe on the other block making it easy to access. Great food, warm atmosphere, prompt service. After being disappointed at my go-to Thai place nearby, we stumbled across Viet House last night for dinner. What a nice surprise it was! This is not your typical pho hole-in-the-wall. It feels more like a neighbourhood restaurant, somewhere you could take your parents or a casual date. The cost is on par with other Vietnamese haunts, but the quality of their food really shines above the rest. I ordered the tofu coconut curry which featured veggies in a spicy coconut sauce with rice on the side. The presentation was excellent and the dish was even better. My wife had the vegetarian pho and said it was delicious. There were more veggies in the pho than is normally the case, and they were perfectly cooked. Their vermicelli bowls and sate peanut soup also piqued my interest. Our server was friendly and not pushy, and the food came out within ten minutes of ordering. In our experience, you pay at the front when you're done, at which time you're given the bill. Will definitely be back! read more

Stumbled upon this little vietnamese restaurant on a saturday night when there was a line up everywhere else. I'm so happy I did. This place opened up about 3 months ago. It's a casual place that is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 2 am. They serve appetizers like deep fried wonton, spring rolls, and skewes. They also have sandwiches, vegetarian, pho, vermicelli bowls, sauteed dishes, and rice bowls. The price ranges from around $10 to $14. The dishes are delicious. I had the chicken noodle soup and it was hot, flavourful, and bountiful. The spring rolls were crispy without being oily. There isnt any line ups to get in and they have tables for groups of people. It was a very snowy day so the perfect time to go for Vietnamese. We decided to try Viet House, which I've never been to but N's been a few times. It's located next door to a XFT branch. We dropped in on a Wednesday (around 6:15pm) and it was reasonably busy. They had a TV up in the corner playing Jeopardy. Service wasn't particularly friendly or helpful. The three page menu consists of appetizers, steamed bao, banh mi, vegetarian, pho, vermicelli, rice, sauteed, chef specials and desserts. It's interesting that none of their dishes are described in Vietnamese... - Rice noodle roll (#2) ($4.85) - lemongrass chicken, lettuce, vermicelli and herbs served with a peanut sauce. N was starving so ordered this while we perused the menu. - Spicy hue lemongrass beef soup (#18) ($11.50) - aka. bun bo hue. Beef balls, beef brisket, ham, quail, onions in a spicy lemongrass beef soup. The broth lacked depth and flavour; only notes I tasted was MSG. Meat quality didn't fare much better but the one good thing is you get a TON of meat. The beef brisket was dry and overcooked. - Sate peanut (#22) ($11.95) - rare beef with scallion and cilantro in a peanut sate soup. This was the better of the two bowls that we shared. Broth was spicy but also had a lightness to it (tasted lime). Rare beef was excellent; thinly sliced, tender and didn't overcook. - House special pho (#17) ($11.25) - aka. pho dac biet. Beef balls, rare beef, brisket, tendon, trip, cilantro and onion. M liked her bowl. Standard Vietnamese fare at VH. Nothing I'd come back for. If I'm in the area, I'd much rather go Shiro or Nabebugyo few blocks down the street. read more

Definitely different than your typical mom and pop pho place in Vancouver. This restaurant is comfortable with air conditioning and lots of seating. Menu is more expansive than most pho places. It seems like their specialty is duck because it is available in different variations on the menu. We tried the house special pho and the duck breast. The broth of the pho is quite good - probably less flavorful than other places because it seems to be MSG free. The duck is unique dish with rice and side vegetables. They do make an effort in plating which is quite surprising. The portion size of the pho is good but I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had. The duck, however, is nicely seasoned, flavorful and tender. I could do without the stir fried frozen carrots and peas and would have preferred maybe just extra bok choy. Price point is absolutely higher than comparable places like Mr Red Cafe - probably due to the neighborhood and the location. There is another cheaper pho place on the same street but you can tell that Viet House caters to a different clientele. Unfortunately they didn't have the crab vermicelli special on the Sunday we went, I want to try that next time for sure. Overall - good place to go for lunch for something other than just pho. Order some of the duck dishes because they are quite unique and you won't find it at other Vietnamese places. Jennifer (owner) created a set dinner for us, which included 3 appetizers (calamari and wings, BBQ Short Ribs salad, and Homemade Clam Chowder), main course (pick one: duck curry, lobster and clam pasta, BBQ short ribs, or steak), and finished off with a chocolate mousse cake. The lobster and clam pasta was very flavourful and cooked to perfection. Also their plating is amazing - definitely looks like something you'd find at a 4-5 star restaurant in downtown. This is the third restaurant to open at this location in two years. It is now a Vietnamese restaurant that is more targeted to English and Chinese-speaking community than Vietnamese...the menu is mostly English and Chinese. It offers a little bit of every category of Vietnamese cuisine. They have banh mi, noodle soup, rice, some "specialty" dishes, and vegetarian options too. I had the pork chop rice today. To be honest, I was very disappointed. First, they didn't use broken rice. Second, my pork chop had no carmelization and didn't taste like it was grilled. Lastly, the fried egg was broken. C'mon man - a restaurant kitchen just gotta know how to fry an egg! My wife had the lemongrass tofu banh mi. The bread was nicely toasted, but she thought the lemongrass flavour was too subtle. Thank goodness the pickled garnishes and sliced jalapeño was able to add some much needed flavor. Service was not bad, but not good - just there to get the job done, if you know what I mean.
