We ordered take out. I ordered the "beef stew" sub broccoli for carrots. The order took one hour. Now we must remember that soup is supposed to be hot!! So stops along the way are never good. When the soup arrived as you can see in the picture there was hardly ANY broth. I recieved one package of Saracha and one package of hoisin sauce no utensils it was cold and it wasn't even a soup. I paid $48.90 I am a regular at this place and I couldn't have been more disappointed unfortunately!! My advice is NEVER order take out from here go into the actual store. SMH read more

Saw this cafe and been wanting to try it! They offer pho, Bahn mi, rice plates and vermicelli plates, along with various drinks. I definitely recommend getting the White Lotus Platter to share as an appetizer. It has a bit of everything so perfect for those who can't make up their minds. Love my special lychee jelly drink. Got noodles here for dinner one night and it was yummy! I was surprised that when I said "spicy" for my bun Bo hue option, it was almost not spicy at all. But the broth was flavourful still, and then give you a really good amount of toppings. I was running out of noodles to accompany the toppings--defs a good value. Beautiful pho place in Fair Market strip mall. Parking is plentiful in the nice large lot in front. The interior looks nice and modern. There are seats for maybe 16 people inside. I've been told that the seating area has recently expanded (they took over the adjacent spot). Staff were friendly. Wow their kitchen looked busy. Takeout orders were happening like crazy the entire time my friends and I were there. Pho is a bit pricier than the competition ($14 as of the time of writing), but the quality is there. I was definitely happy with the Bun bo Hue. The spiciest setting is maybe a medium at best. Nice broth and chopped onions. Their pho toppings also include some red cabbage in addition to the usual fixings. I also tried their cold cut banh mi. Pretty tasty and authentic, though the size is a bit smaller than the competition. Bread was nice and crunchy on the outside. Definitely will come back at some point. Recommended. read more

Tucked away at the corner of the strip mall, this place stands out as it looks newer than the other tired looking shops or restaurants. This place is clean, bright and spacious. The prices on the menu reflect that. It is quite a jump from $11 to $14 for a bowl of pho. The saving grace is at least the pho is tasty. Nothing worse than paying more for mediocre food. I had the bun bo hue medium spice. It was good and it was not very spicy. I asked for the usual sauces plus chili oil. The chili oil hot sauce tasted house made and was really good. It went very well with the noodle. I also liked that it did not come with cubes of pig blood and trotters. It was just the ham, beef balls and slices which I prefer. We came here for our sons first restaurant meal after a trip to buy low and it was excellent. The staff were so accommodating with providing a baby bowl, spoon and scissors to cut our food so he could eat it. They also have high chairs. This was really above and beyond and we didn't even ask for these items, they just gave them to us. Food was good! We ordered a pho and noodle combo. Both were tasty. Decent vegetarian pho but far from the best in town. I stopped in for lunch one day looking to try their veggie pho ($14.50 plus tax). They contain "vegetarian meats", and though I was told they were vegan, I had my doubts (some veg seafood has egg/dairy), so it might be worth asking to see the package or omitting them. Anyway, the soup came out in about 15 mins. You get a generous portion of thin noodles, tofu, broccoli, carrot, and all sorts of veggie meats. Personally, I could do with less of the veggie meat and more veggies. The broth was fairly bland, almost tasting like a very light homemade chicken noodle soup broth. They have homemade chili oil which amps up the broth nicely. Filling and reasonably satisfying overall, but not especially interesting veg pho. read more

The stewed base was lean and very beefy, excellent! Pork Patty Bahn Mi I love their Pork Patty, cooked to well down and seasoned perfectly. I expected whole shrimp with a sugar cane glaze or something but in actuality it was like a shrimp and fish paste ( texture like a fish ball) skewered on a sugar cane stalk. It was, however, super tasty. We ordered the house special pho and a vermicelli bowl. Spring rolls was crispy and fresh. The broth of the pho was delicious and very flavourful. Small shop with a few tables, we went for an early dinner so there was a couple tables to spare. It is still on my list to try their beef stew and bahnmi's so maybe this will be the year! Iced coffee is quite weak, possibly made from powder?? Really lacking on coffee (notably the chicory) flavour and tasted more like milk tea mixed with a bit of coffee. Definitely not using cafe du monde or trung Nguyen brand of coffee. The condensed milk is either really poor quality or watered down, there was almost no condensed milk flavour. I wouldn't recommend getting this. (Edit: they use a "sweetened condensed creamer" which explains the strange flavour) Bun bo hue (hot) was decently spicy. Not sure I would want it more spicy (like some of the other reviewers) since it would drown out the rest of the flavours. My personal preference isn't to burn my mouth off so it was spicy enough to get me to take a break 3/4 into the bowl. Overall flavours were great and meat was tasty and tender. Noodles were nice and soft, I would have liked a little bit of chew but still good. Portion is on the smaller side but enough to be satisfied for lunch. Based on these two items, my true rating is 3/5 but giving it 4/5 as it's a great spot for a quick fix in the area. Certainly not a place you need to go out of your way to but it won't disappoint when you have a viet food craving. I really like this family-run Vietnamese shop in my neighbourhood! Their food is tasty and their portions very reasonable. Recently I ordered takeout and was surprised to see they upgraded their soup takeout containers - I would recommend just for that :) Very heavy duty, well packed soup and toppings. I ordered their Bun Bo Hue and their broth was delicious! It didn't come with a huge pork hock which I appreciated because I find it quite hard to eat actually. They recently expanded their cafe so I was really excited to return and try their dine in! It was raining today so we stopped in for a late lunch. The cafe was really spacious and clean inside with about 5-6 tables to sit and a section by the window with bar stools. The decor inside was so clean and modern, the bathroom was also clean and spacious. The service was really fast, we ordered right away when we sat down and they gave us hot tea. The menu here is very short and simple, but has enough variety to try different things. My boyfriend and I both got the house special pho and a cold cut banh mi to share. Our order came out in 10 minutes and the Pho portion was really big, you get so much meat and different types as well (rare, brisket, tripe, beef ball, etc). The broth was clear and clean which I really like and light but tasty, I added some hoisin for a bit more flavour. We both agreed that the pho had such a hearty broth and they used quality cuts of meat and didn't skimp out at all. The cold cut banh mi was amazing although a bit smaller than other banh mi shops, I was really impressed with the quality of the bread, we noticed that they made the breads in house. The pork belly in the sandwich was so good and the sauce in the banh mi was so creamy and delicious, we bought extras to bring home and eat the next day. We've been coming here for a while and not only is it a Great family run Vietnamese restaurant but the food is amazing! Seating is very limited with only a few tables but the food is excellent. We've ordered, soup, bahn mi, meat platters/dishes and all have been really good. Their bahn mi's are probably one of the best in Vancouver, it's definitely our go to, there is lots of meat and just enough pickled veggies, cilantro and hot pepper. Try the pork, it's my favorite. Their pho is really good too, the soup is not overly salty and and the flavors have developed really well; a really good beefy flavor. Okay, if you've been reading my blog for a while now, you probably know that I'm not really inclined to wait in long lines for restaurants. I usually pre-plan and look up when places are busy to avoid those hours. Unfortunately, Google's not always that accurate (I probably shouldn't say that out loud... I can hear the black helicopters hovering nearby as I type this). We headed out for (what we thought was) an early lunch at a place that just popped up on my radar recently... White Lotus Cafe. This Vietnamese restaurant is located in an out-of-the-way strip mall off of Lougheed Hwy, near Holdom. We were a bit surprised that there was already a line-up out the door when we got here. When we entered the restaurant, we quickly figured out why... this is a really small location. They've only got seating for maybe 20 people at best. But since we were just a party of 2, they said the wait shouldn't be too long. The first item that we ordered was the Gi Cun ($5) which is basically a salad roll filled with shrimp and Vietnamese ham and then wrapped in rice paper roll. The rolls were shorter than I'm used to but they were much fatter as well. These were really good and came with a thick peanut sauce. The main reason why I wanted to come here was for their White Lotus Platter ($16) which is basically a sampler platter with a side of vermicelli, pickled vegetables, and fish sauce and topped off with fried shallots and green onions. In the platter, you also get Ch Giò (deep-fried spring rolls with ground pork and shrimp), meat patties, sugar cane shrimp, and grilled meats. The price is well worth the amount and variety of food that you get in the platter. Last up was the Bánh Mì ($5.75) served with pâte, cilantro, cucumbers jalapenos, pickled daikon & carrots, mayo, and your choice of meat. In hindsight, I probably should have stuck with a cold-cut version instead of ordering the chicken variety. I'm used to chicken bánh mì being made with grilled chicken and I found this chicken was more like roasted chicken so it was a bit drier than I would have liked. That being said, this Viet sub had a nice crusty exterior when you bit into it and the rest of the filling was quite good. So, with all of that said... the food here is pretty good (especially given the area). But expect a bit of a lineup... especially during their busy hours. read more

This place is a really good. The bread for the Banh Mi is made fresh daily by the owner himself and the pho is delicious! Salad rolls are a must here. There spring rolls are O.K., but my preference is the salad rolls here over the spring rolls. This place has limited seating so be prepared to wait. Today I tried the Beef stew with Rice Noodles which was the special. It was hearty and filling. Very good for a chilly day. There is plentiful parking outside as this is probably one of the last few strip malls around Burnaby. The service was good with the servers mindful of my level of tea. The Banh Mi are quite large and not that much money so if you feel like a sand which try it out. It is certainly tastier imho than some sandwich shops out there. read more

This is a nice place for a quick bite to eat. In my opinion, they do banh mis (Vietnamese baguette sandwiches) the best. However, they also serve pho, rice plates and spring rolls etc. The restaurant interior is small and basic, so it can get crowded during peak lunch hours and you may have to wait to get a seat. There is also a clean washroom and ample natural lighting. Staff are friendly and efficient, food is tasty and fresh. I especially love their vegetarian banh mi! Highly recommend. The price is super reasonable for the sandwiches (~$5). Overall I'd recommend this place if you're craving some comfort Vietnamese food in the Brentwood/holdom area. read more

I have bookmarked this place since it opened and we finally realized our goal today. On a rainy September Saturday at 12:40pm, the hubs and I arrived and the small dine-in area is full. There are 2 two seaters and 3 four seaters. We waited about 5-10mins and got our table. We were served hot tea and place our order immediately as we analyzed the menu during the wait. Not that there is much to deliberate about as the menu is very small, which actually reminds me of some small shops in Vietnam where they specialize is a few dishes and that's it. The order came at 8mins after ordering. In between the time, there were constant amount of incoming patrons and various food delivery orders coming through. The back of the house is fully visible and we can see 6 staff working together (one or two of them as a dual role of cashier, server, packer). Unlike other pho places, this place is fully ventilated, but still warm from the kitchen (shocking!). House Special Pho ($11): Good protein-to-carb ratio, the meat is a bit overcooked, but the broth is tasty without a lot of sodium. It passed the test of not a lot of water needed to quench the thirst. Decent price. Bun ($11): Good protein-to-carb ratio as well. We ordered spring roll and BBQ pork and was satisfied with the charring and flavours of the pork. The spring roll, while flavourful, is tiny compared to other pho places. Overall, the customer and kitchen service is great. Highly recommend this place. read more

Hearing great things about this place, I had the opportunity to try out their chicken banh mi today! What I really liked was that there was quite a bit of shredded white meat chicken (which I prefer) that was lightly flavoured along with pickled veggies, mayo and and pate atop crusty bread. The reason for the 4 (really a 3.5) instead of 5 stars has to do with the off-putting smattering of pate at the ends of the sandwich, the slight lack of flavour in the chicken itself and the higher prices. On the menus from last year, a Banh Mi was $5 and now it is $5.75. Although still very affordable, I wasn't expecting this walking in. Ontop of that, I do not really like pate and there wasnt much in most of the sandwich until I got to the end where I found a huge slab of it. The bread was crusty without being too hard but nothing too memorable. Overall, the sandwich ate kind of...bland? But because of the plentiful protein AND CHICKEN BREAST OVER DARK MEAT. So happy to have an awesome pho restaurant close to home! I've been at least 15+ times through the years. My favourite thing on the menu is the vermicelli bowl with bbq pork. Their bbq pork is always perfectly smoked. It's a small spot so if the tables are all full you'll have to take it to go. Pho is also a good option. My only complaint is the lack friendliness.
