I don't usually go to Kingsway nearby Metrotown for foods but this time I felt like having lunch outside rather than eating in food court. I searched for Vietnamese cafe and I found this place. They have pretty good reviews. I went there with my wife and we ordered grilled half pork and half chicken on rice and pho. This foods didn't disappointed us. I was surprised the broth of the pho was gracefully rich and tasty. The beef balls had natural beef taste. The grilled pork and chicken were having a nice smoked flavour but not burnt. Well done! The owner was there serving the customers and he is friendly and welcoming. At one moment the sunlight came in from the window he immediately went to pull down the bind so the customers won't get the sunlight directly into their eyes. He kept serving tea and refilled frequently. I'm happy with their service. In terms of foods and service quality, this is a place I will definitely return. read more

Seating can be a bit tight. Staff are friendly. No complaints. The pho is pretty decent. Beef slices and beef balls are decent. Served in clear broth with onions and cilantro. The bean sprouts are buried at the bottom of the bowl, not served on top. Not sure if this means the volume of food is reduced. Overall quality is decent. The other dishes here look pretty good too. The restaurant is located right opposite to Metropolis and it's quite convenient to get there. It was a bit busy (~80% full) when we visited during lunch hour, but the place was still pretty quiet, which was nice and relaxing. We tried their grilled pork and spring rolls on rice, pork salad roll, and Vietnamese coffee. The grilled pork and spring rolls were delicious! This hole in the wall gem is small but not their portions. I had the grilled pork and chicken on vermicelli and it was fantastic. The meat to vermicelli ratio was 2:1, marinated and grilled to perfection, and sub $20. Great deal for Vancouver. They close at 8.30pm on weekends which is a bummer. A hidden gem near Metrotown! My partner and I ate here on a bit of a whim, as I was hungry coming from the gym on a Saturday afternoon. It was quite busy in the restaurant, as I saw a few people waiting for tables. I was seated fairly quickly though. The menu is fully in English, as another Yelper pointed out, which was interesting to me. It would have been easier for me to understand what dish I wanted if it was in Vietnamese lol. I found the service to be very quick and attentive, even as the restaurant got busier during the lunch hour. We ordered crispy spring rolls as an appetizer. I thought these were just okay. I found the filling to be too little, which made for more crunchy skin that felt overly oily. I enjoyed the pickled veggies and lettuce included though! Nice authentic touch. I ordered bun bo hue for myself, and I was internally comparing it to my favourite place (Cafe Xu Hue; yes I have a Yelp review for that already too!). I thought this restaurant did really well! The broth was clean yet full of flavour, and a decent amount of meat was provided. It wasn't too spicy for me (which is always good), and I thought that the lemongrass flavour really came out. I've sat inside the restaurant and ordered soup-based dishes before and wanted to try a rice dish this time. I ordered half lemongrass chicken and pork on rice, to go. Was told it would take ~10 mins for prep and it was ready on time. Overall the dish was average, didn't surprise me but met my expectations of what a grilled chicken/pork chop on rice would be. Both the chicken and pork were a bit dry, which was unfortunate, however they were seasoned well with visible grilled marks. They use normal long grain rice which seems to be the standard for Vietnamese restaurants, with the texture being slightly on the drier side, which I preferred. I also liked how the pickled carrots/radish and sliced cucumbers provided a refreshing cleanse between bites. The fish sauce was typical, I didn't notice any fragrant additions other than the usual salty flavour. Came here for an impromptu lunch with my partner after her yoga class. The prices here are great and the food was amazing. I had their lemongrass chicken on rice, and my partner got their bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and spring rolls. I tried a bit of her food too! I got half rice with my chicken and mixed all the vegetables (they give a good amount!) with the rice. It was the perfect ratio with the chicken for me. They also gave an ample amount of chicken!! The chicken was seasoned and grilled well, juicy and soft. Nuoc mam was good. I should have asked for no pickled vegetables, but that's on my partner for thinking she could eat it all lol. The bun bo hue soup was also really delicious. I want to go back to either have a full dish of this or try their pho to see how it holds up! The spring rolls were meh. A very modern looking vietnamese restaurant. The place is small with very tiny tables. The menu doesnt have any vietnamese on it so some thing are confusing. They have a seafood patty noodle soup with tomato. The picture looks like bun rieu but not sure. It would have been better to have both english and vietnamese. We ordered the pho dac biet and the grilled pork with spring roll vermicelli. The pho broth was well made. There was a stronger taste of one of the ingredients but I cant pinpoint which one. The bowl was on the smaller size compared to other restaurants. Bean sprouts are already in the pho and not served on the size. They also give a pinky sized lime. It would have been nice to have some herbs too. The vermicelli was also well made. The spring roll was made with rice paper which I like. The pork pieces were really tender. The bowl size was also small. Overall, their dishes are made better than some mom and pop viet noodle shops, which reflects in the price. Stopped by for lunch and it was quite busy. I had their lemongrass chicken on vermicelli. It was a good portion of chicken. It was flavourful and meaty. I liked how the vermicelli bowl was about half salad/pickled veggies and half vermicelli. It was a tasty meal. My friend had their special beef pho and they were able to accommodate her request for just beef ball and tripe. Just to note, their pho comes with the beansprouts in the soup already. My friend wasn't a fan of it, so make sure to ask for it on the side! There is a note on their menu about it, but it might be missed. Service today was just okay. Reasonably good vegetarian pho. I placed a take-out order for dinner on a Thursday and my order was ready for pick-up when I arrived. I got one piece of basil & mango salad roll ($4.95 plus tax), and their tofu & vegetable pho (veggie broth; $11.95 plus tax). The salad roll was decent, with fresh mango and basil, and then mostly bean sprouts and lettuce, with a sweet and tangy peanut sauce for dipping. $5 for 1 salad roll is steep, given that most places sell 2 for $6-8. Decent salad roll, but overpriced and the quality doesn't match the high price. The pho was decent. You get a generous portion of mixed veggies (broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, carrot, butternut squash), deep fried tofu pockets, and thin rice noodles, with bean sprouts and lime for garnishes, along with hoi sin and sriracha. I really liked the veggie selection. The noodles were underneath the veggies and so were stuck together by the time I got home (15 min drive). The broth was very mild, with a gentle umami like flavour, low sodium and oil (which is nice), but in general just pretty bland. Returned for their delicious banh mis with a friend and enjoyed our meal together in a comfortable environment. We were able to sit for quite a while since it was a slower time and I ordered a chicken banh mi with extra veggies. Looking back, the extra was not really necessary because it was mostly pickled radishes and carrots. I love these but there intensity of the amount of pickled veggies overwhelmed all other flavours and drowned out the chicken. The chicken layer isn't very thick but it is well flavoured and the bread is deliciously crispy! My friend liked the beef stew with "Lobok" and said it was tasty! The quality of the chicken is good and decent portion. Fiance loves the Spicy Beef Noodle and Soup (aka Bun Bo Hue). The broth is flavourful and a good spice, and the ingredients are quality! Sometimes we add a Salad Roll to appetize our appetites. Overall, our meals are always satisfactory and hits the spot. Please note that the 2 stars is for the fact that they do make decent food. I had the lemongrass chicken on rice and it was good. I went with two of my work friends and they loved their dishes too. However, for out party of 3, our experience was tainted when the server(possibly the owner), tried to kick us out twice - after less than an hour of being served at the restaurant. The gentleman raised his voice and tried to defend himself and embarrass us in front of all his customers at his own restaurant. He claimed that he welcomed my friend and offered a table before our arrival. Our friend was early by 10 minutes and arrived at 12:20 PM. We were only a party of 3 and two of us arrived at about 12:32 to 12:35 PM. By 1:10 to 1:15 PM, he politely came to our table and asked if we could finish up. We decided to pay for all our food beforehand. There was only one party of 4 waiting at that time and they got a table. He then more sternly asked us to finish around 1:30PM again. There were no signs of any time limit on any of the tables. The second time around he said "6 people were waiting" for a table. I was not facing the entrance but when I looked back, there were only 2 frustrated people waiting, even though there was a table for 2 empty, and an "bar" type set up by the window that could fit 3. Furthermore, there were a few other parties of 2 sitting in tables for 4. He raised his voice when I responded to him that it was the second time he has asked us to leave in under an hour. We had no idea that the restaurant was an "eat n' get out" type restaurant when busy. I pondered if I was one of those customers that just sit around and occupy a table for no good reason, but, here is some context and comparison. There is a cute Japanese cafe restaurant called Yama Cafe on East Hastings just a block east of Victoria Dr. They have a 1.5 hr seating limit that they post at all times in case it's busy, they enforce it. Cafe Ludica, an Italian restaurant near the Stadium Chinatown area has a 2-hr time limit when busy. Both my colleagues were also offended, and all of us work in customer service and healthcare. No restaurant I know of, kicks people out so that they can fill another table for two people, just because maybe that party of two did not want to sit at at table for two. Talk about entitled. There were also no posted disclaimers/reminders/messaging, and we were seated and having a meal together there for under an hour. Most small restaurants will not seat a party until the entire party is present. My early friend and colleague would've been happy to wait for us at the bar area until we arrived. If I had to wait an extra 10 minutes for a table, I would not be complaining. Furthermore, may I suggest that parties of 2 sit at tables for 2, instead of tables of 4? Or perhaps sit at the bar? I've done that many times before if it's a busy place. What's the issue? If you choose to dine here, just beware. If it's during a lunch or dinner "rush" (there were no line-ups outside by the way), expect the risk that you may be pushed out 10 minutes or less after you take your last bite. read more

This is one of the good Vietnamese restaurant that I found in the Metrotown area. The place is quiet popular with a line during lunch and dinner time. The flavourful broth for the pho and pho ga keeps making me want to come back. Both their beef and chicken broth tastes fresh and has a tint of sweetness in it. The brother doesn't makes me feels thirsty afterwards like some broth at other Vietnamese noodle place. I still want to try their dry rice dishes but I always caved for the soup noodles. I just can't turn down soup noodles! I like their banh mi as well. I think those are my soft spots for Vietnamese food- a good broth (good quality beef too) and a good old bahn mi. What's better than a warm tasty bowl of pho on a snowing day? I'm glad that I've discovered a great place through Yelp at a corner of a commercial complex I don't normally visit. The restaurant is not very big and seats 30 people at most I would say. It was packed by the time we left (6pm) so be prepared for a short wait during peak hour in cold weather. For 4 of us, we've ordered spicy beef noodle soup, house special noodle soup, seafood and meat noodle soup, chicken wings, and chicken&beef on rice for my 2.5 year old. All tasted great! I must highlight the fact that the chicken wing is so crispy and flavourful which I found it second to Phnom Phen. The shrimp in the seafood noodle soup is very fresh which is quite impressive. Lemengrass chicken was one of their signatures and a must try. It was nicely done, only thing is that I tasted less Lemengrass but it's still yummy. Also, all mains come in standard size in a prize range of $11-$15. People with smaller appetite may found it a bit waste. read more

I was here on May13 (saturday) for a lunch and felt like having Pho. I was happy since Ha Cafe is closest one to Metrotown Library. I got #1 special beef soup ($8.95) and the portion was big. Have to mention their noodles don't come small and large and it's one size only. Soup was good and oil was definetely skimmed from the soup. I personally don't like oily soup for Pho. That was BIG plus. However, why isn't there any basil and sprouts with my noodle? So turns out sprouts is already inside the noodle and few other veggies were inside (says on the menu as well). I found that odd. I like plentiful of fresh basils and bean sprouts to feel the crisp texture while eating Pho. This place is my friend's favourite for their rice plates. We came here for lunch and it was pretty good. The place was busy around 1pm on a weekday. The waiter let us read the menu when we waited a bit before seated. He was very friendly and efficient. I had the lemongrass chicken and pork on rice while my friend had the grilled pork and spring rolls on rice. The meat was nicely seasoned on both dishes. The carrot, turnip and lettuce salad was very fresh and their pickled carrot and turnip were very refreshing. They also serve a variety of appetizers such as wings and fries, calamari, and soup, etc. Noodle and soup (pho) is a must for a Vietnamese restaurant. They also have Vietnamese subs (banh mi) and vegetarian dishes. Hot and cold beverages are also available. Gotta try other dishes another time. Have had decent dishes in this restaurant. I used to come here often in High School since I craved Vietnamese during the cold winter months. I recommend coming here during lunch time since it is in a "village centre" and it is usually busy during dinner time. I usually order Pho Tai Chin Bo Vien at Pho restaurants and the broth here is delicious! Plenty of Meat Balls and if you want to try other types of Vietnamese food they have a large variety of food you can choose from in their menu. Their staff is friendly and the serve their food pretty quickly. During high school my friends would always get The Beef Pho Broth so that could be a dish you can definitely try out. It literally tasted like diluted chicken / pork broth. The meat was also pretty dry, average noodles, a little unappetizing. We also ordered the shrimp salad rolls, which was also quite disappointing as it was literally only two small pieces (usually you'd expect to see 4 from an order). Visited Ha Cafe for a lunch with a co-worker. Space appears clean, staff is very friendly. The first thing that we noticed was the belching regular over in the corner (deemed a "regular" due to his casual conversations with staff in their native tongue). Our appetizers arrived fast, with chicken wings that were good, but not exceptional. One pet peeve of mine is when the diner's meals are not brought out together. Our meals were brought out separately. The meals were good western-style Viet cuisine. Overall good, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here again. read more
