    crispy spring rolls appetizer
    Ashley N.

A hidden gem near Metrotown! My partner and I ate here on a bit of a whim, as I was hungry coming from the gym on a Saturday afternoon. It was quite busy in the restaurant, as I saw a few people waiting for tables. I was seated fairly quickly though. The menu is fully in English, as another Yelper pointed out, which was interesting to me. It would have been easier for me to understand what dish I wanted if it was in Vietnamese lol. I found the service to be very quick and attentive, even as the restaurant got busier during the lunch hour. We ordered crispy spring rolls as an appetizer. I thought these were just okay. I found the filling to be too little, which made for more crunchy skin that felt overly oily. I enjoyed the pickled veggies and lettuce included though! Nice authentic touch. I ordered bun bo hue for myself, and I was internally comparing it to my favourite place (Cafe Xu Hue; yes I have a Yelp review for that already too!). I thought this restaurant did really well! The broth was clean yet full of flavour, and a decent amount of meat was provided. It wasn't too spicy for me (which is always good), and I thought that the lemongrass flavour really came out. A great spot overall! I would definitely come back to try other dishes, and to satisfy my infrequent bun bo hue cravings.

half lemongrass chicken and pork on rice
    Samuel F.

I've sat inside the restaurant and ordered soup-based dishes before and wanted to try a rice dish this time. I ordered half lemongrass chicken and pork on rice, to go. Was told it would take ~10 mins for prep and it was ready on time. Overall the dish was average, didn't surprise me but met my expectations of what a grilled chicken/pork chop on rice would be. Both the chicken and pork were a bit dry, which was unfortunate, however they were seasoned well with visible grilled marks. They use normal long grain rice which seems to be the standard for Vietnamese restaurants, with the texture being slightly on the drier side, which I preferred. I also liked how the pickled carrots/radish and sliced cucumbers provided a refreshing cleanse between bites. The fish sauce was typical, I didn't notice any fragrant additions other than the usual salty flavour. I wouldn't go out of my way to order this again, however if I'm in the area and craving Vietnamese food, I would stop by.

We ended up trying Ha Café Vietnamese Cuisine after the place we wanted to eat at was randomly closed. This spot has had plenty of turnover over the years (Asakusa Sushi and Old Street). It's next door to Mui Garden Restaurant. We dropped in on a busy Friday afternoon (12:15pm). Seems to be a popular spot for solo diners. No atmosphere with news up on the TV. - Herbs - basil, lime and a massive pile of bean sprouts. You have to ask for the beans sprouts. - Special beef noodle soup (#1) ($15.95) - bun bo hue was very mild in spice level. Noodle portion on the small side. Broth was unmemorable. - Spicy beef noodle soup (#5) ($14.95) - pho dac biet was okay. Broth on the sweeter side. Barely any tripe. Run of the mill, generic Viet spot. 2.5 stars.

    Spring rolls

Came here for an impromptu lunch with my partner after her yoga class. The prices here are great and the food was amazing. I had their lemongrass chicken on rice, and my partner got their bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and spring rolls. I tried a bit of her food too! I got half rice with my chicken and mixed all the vegetables (they give a good amount!) with the rice. It was the perfect ratio with the chicken for me. They also gave an ample amount of chicken!! The chicken was seasoned and grilled well, juicy and soft. Nuoc mam was good. I should have asked for no pickled vegetables, but that's on my partner for thinking she could eat it all lol. The bun bo hue soup was also really delicious. I want to go back to either have a full dish of this or try their pho to see how it holds up! The spring rolls were meh. Flavour was lacking and it was too mushy on the inside, even for my soft mouth. The service is quick, to the point. The restaurant is slightly small and cramped, but it's not too loud in there. I didn't like that the menu didn't have any Vietnamese--surprisingly it made it more confusing and I was questioning what some things were.

A very modern looking vietnamese restaurant. The place is small with very tiny tables. The menu doesnt have any vietnamese on it so some thing are confusing. They have a seafood patty noodle soup with tomato. The picture looks like bun rieu but not sure. It would have been better to have both english and vietnamese. We ordered the pho dac biet and the grilled pork with spring roll vermicelli. The pho broth was well made. There was a stronger taste of one of the ingredients but I cant pinpoint which one. The bowl was on the smaller size compared to other restaurants. Bean sprouts are already in the pho and not served on the size. They also give a pinky sized lime. It would have been nice to have some herbs too. The vermicelli was also well made. The spring roll was made with rice paper which I like. The pork pieces were really tender. The bowl size was also small. Overall, their dishes are made better than some mom and pop viet noodle shops, which reflects in the price. It would maybe be compared to the viet noodle guy near brentwood.

Spicy beef Noodle soup. (bun bo hue).

Bun Bo Hue here was actually good. (Spicy beef Noodle soup). Would highly recommend. Broth is clear, tastes how I expected it to taste. There are some places that make it really bland around Burnaby but not here. I don't need to go to Vancouver to get BBH now. Thanks

Chose this place purely for its location as I was picking up a quick bite after a long tattoo session next door.. ordered 3 soups (2 house specials and 1 seafood+meat pho) and 2 shrimp salad rolls. The pho broth tasted good but were all too overwhelmingly sweet to be fully enjoyed. I like sweet and savory broth as much as the next person but this was too much. This is confirmed by my diabetic friend having a jolt in their blood sugars. Ingredients all seem fresh and made with care. Salad rolls appear to be made to order. Reading previous reviews, it seems like grilled meat with rice or vermicelli dishes is their strong point.

Vietnamese gig located in Old Or hard shopping center. Small place maybe can house 25 clientelle maximum or even less,no patio seating. Excellent service, accept cash/debit/credit. Noise level is average, kids friendly and i may say good for small group. For my appez: I had the calamari i am actually surprised because it was good..really good crispy outside tender inside,it taste fresh.. Then for my main entree: Lemon grass fish on rice this the real reason why I visited this place..usually I eat from other place lemongtass pork or chicken, this is different right?! Well it was breaded fish and deep fried with sauce and vietnamese salad and broken rice, not bad though, but not great as well.Just for the record that I tried it. Market price is within range. Another place that needs a washroom makeover.

    Lemongrass chicken on vermicelli
    Natalie W.

Stopped by for lunch and it was quite busy. I had their lemongrass chicken on vermicelli. It was a good portion of chicken. It was flavourful and meaty. I liked how the vermicelli bowl was about half salad/pickled veggies and half vermicelli. It was a tasty meal. My friend had their special beef pho and they were able to accommodate her request for just beef ball and tripe. Just to note, their pho comes with the beansprouts in the soup already. My friend wasn't a fan of it, so make sure to ask for it on the side! There is a note on their menu about it, but it might be missed. Service today was just okay. They didn't refill tea until I asked and they didn't seem too attentive. But when they were, they were friendly. Overall, it was a pretty good meal.

Spicy seafood sweet and sour soup (canh chua)
    Sonia C.

First time coming to Ha Cafe and it was really good! The menu was fully in English, which was new for me, as I was used to seeing the names of the dishes in Vietnamese. Regardless, the food still tasted very authentic. I got the spicy sweet and sour soup or canh chua. I got the seafood one which comes with fish and shrimp. The fish was so fresh - texture was firm and flaky and not fishy at all. They also used fresh pineapple instead of canned which made the dish even better as it didn't add an overly sweet canned fruit flavour.

grilled beef short ribs on rice
    Leeza N.

Got takeout last week since my family and I were too lazy to cook and the weather was too crazy to go out. I got the grilled beef short ribs on rice ($14.95) and it was a pretty big portion so I shared it. I really liked how they marinated the beef it was so flavourful and tender, I also liked how they shredded the lettuce as well, the rice was fresh and the fish sauce was really tasty too. Overall, super delicious and I will be ordering from them again!

    Basil & mango salad roll
    Matt B.

Reasonably good vegetarian pho. I placed a take-out order for dinner on a Thursday and my order was ready for pick-up when I arrived. I got one piece of basil & mango salad roll ($4.95 plus tax), and their tofu & vegetable pho (veggie broth; $11.95 plus tax). The salad roll was decent, with fresh mango and basil, and then mostly bean sprouts and lettuce, with a sweet and tangy peanut sauce for dipping. $5 for 1 salad roll is steep, given that most places sell 2 for $6-8. Decent salad roll, but overpriced and the quality doesn't match the high price. The pho was decent. You get a generous portion of mixed veggies (broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, carrot, butternut squash), deep fried tofu pockets, and thin rice noodles, with bean sprouts and lime for garnishes, along with hoi sin and sriracha. I really liked the veggie selection. The noodles were underneath the veggies and so were stuck together by the time I got home (15 min drive). The broth was very mild, with a gentle umami like flavour, low sodium and oil (which is nice), but in general just pretty bland. Overall, filling and reasonably priced vegan pho, but not a top spot in Greater Van.

Ha Cafe is a true hidden gem in Burnaby. We have come here several times and it never disappoints! My go-to dish is the Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli. The quality of the chicken is good and decent portion. Fiance loves the Spicy Beef Noodle and Soup (aka Bun Bo Hue). The broth is flavourful and a good spice, and the ingredients are quality! Sometimes we add a Salad Roll to appetize our appetites. Overall, our meals are always satisfactory and hits the spot. My picture was from pre-covid but they are opened for takeout (not sure about dine-in).. so gonna have to order soon, as it's been over a month since I've last had Viet food - may or may not go crazy soon.

It is also a fantastic spot to work if you wanna have a café setting because their pastries and bake goods are absolutely fantastic. In fact last year for Christmas, we bought one of their Christmas cake options which proved to be super popular with the family. What I love about this location is the decor. On one side it is a simple industrial warehouse. But it has that post modern feel with all of the live plants. The live plants is what I love and the tall ceiling for the plants to fully grow. Though if they are looking for something else, which could really bring this to the top, it would be to have a fish tank. A fish and or water feature around the massive plant island in the middle of the dinning area would be chefs kiss. Of course, what about the food? From here, I find the food here is excellent. Sometimes the flavour combinations are a little weird. But that's typical for the Vancouver foodie scene. Vancouver food scene is a fusion hybrid of local ingredients mixed with traditions from cultures from other places around the world. But the bottom line is the portions are a good size. The platters in particular are large and would feed a very hungry person. You definitely get your moneys worth. You don't get much table service once you are done with your order. But that is all right because of it size and volume for the amount of people who come through. We ordered the mussels as an additional appetizer in white wine broth and also each ordered the $45 menu. We both selected the Oven Roasted Beef Striploin and for dessert there was a choice of cheesecake with caramel sauce, cinnamon cheesecake, and black forest cake. My Mom chose the black forest cake and I ordered the cinnamon cheesecake. The mussels appetizer dish was quite generous in quantity for $23 and mussels were a good size. Served with 2 slices of toast, the white wine sauce was more watery than other places but still decent. For the $45 course, the Summer Corn salad comes with artisan greens, feta, carrot, radish, tomato, red onion, orange vinaigrette. This was a refreshing light start to the meal and we both really enjoyed it. For the slow roasted beef striploin, it was served with asparagus and bell peppers, mash potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a red wine demi. The beef striploin was lean but not tough and was super trendy and juicy. Yorkshire pudding, which I'm usually not a fan of, was really warm and soft. Overall, a really solid dish that was generous in portion. Dessert was also solid for both the cinnamon cheesecake and black forest cake. We barely finished the dessert and both of us had leftovers of our entree to take home as we couldn't finish our food. Great value for a 3 course $45 meal for today's economy and the service was really friendly and warm.

Not just for golfers…read more Reward yourself after playing 18 holes with a meal at Burnaby Mountain Clubhouse. This restaurant is open to golfers and non-golfers alike. Stepping into BMC is like taking a time-machine back to the 1960's. Decor looks straight out of an era when Polaroid cameras ruled the photography world. The restaurant itself is moderately sized, but they were able to accommodate our party of 12. Restaurant was very dimly lit; most of the light was coming from the setting sun. The menu had as many choices as a typical White Spot. Prices were reasonable, but entrees could be upgraded which could cause prices to escalate if you weren't prudent. For example, I ordered the steak but got the lobster upgrade which raised the price by 30%. And, it was the lower-grade Caribbean lobster instead of the much juicier Atlantic lobster. It took a long time for the food to begin arriving. But, we did have a larger party that night. But, after a long wait, all our food arrived almost all at once. Presentation was good, and portion size was adequate. My steak was medium rare even though I had requested rare. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals, and a few were unable to finish their food. Service was only okay. If they weren't taking your order or delivering your food, you didn't see much of the staff. And, the restaurant wasn't exactly busy either. We did ask a server to take a group photo of our table, and they happily obliged. I'd skip the round of golf and go straight to the restaurant.
