I feel as if the other location is slightly more flavourful; the shrimp on my skewer for whatever reason was both cooked nicely, or very overcooked which I was slightly confused by. Otherwise, still edible and very negligible. Keep in mind this location is cash only.

I went here again some time last month. We ordered #23 Bun Rieu (crab noodle $18.95) and #7 House Special ($17.95). Bun Rieu was good. Noodles were nicely cooked. House special was alright it was rather salty. We both wanted to finish our food, but the soup was pretty greasy. Noodle for house special didn't taste too good. Every time we sipped some soup it felt oily. Staff was nice to explain we can opt out beef oil for our food. I didn't find anything memorable about their food. Staff were nice and helpful though.

So one weekend I was shopping with the fam and it was time for a lunch break. After a long drawn out yelling match and "discussion", we settled for this fairly new location of Hoang Yen. We did have to wait a bit for a table, it was quite busy. As we were seated menus were quickly handed to us and utensils were quickly placed in one bunch on the table. After a quick look we made our choices and ordered. Food came at acceptable time frame. Unfortunately the family dug into everything before I could even bring out my phone to take a pic. I will say this, the pho for all of us was good. And I didn't experience my usual "dry" mouth like I usually do because of the amount of msg in the food. The only thing that was strange to me was the mushiness of the deep fried roll.

Second location recently opened in Burnaby and we dropped by around 5pm to avoid crowds. There was no lineup and staff seated us right away. Service was quite efficient and 5 stars for friendly smile and greet. For future visits, I would likely stay true to their pho specialty and order variations of pho noodles with soup. I found their pho menu items on par as original location but other items were a "miss" for my first visit. The crab soup was too salty and lacking of "content" with not much hints of crab flavors; moreover, the chicken skewers and the vermicelli dishes were a bit dry. The coffee was also off at the time of our visit, lacking in aroma m, made evident from not seeing much coffee grind powder in the the drip filter. It was disappointing as I recall their original Victoria location had pretty good drip coffee. Ambiance here is considerably more modern, equipped with large screen TV though the place is not spacious. Most tables are quite close together and prob not the best place for intimate date or client talk. Overall, they are a fine option to satisfy Pho cravings in the Metrotown neighborhood. I would still consider visiting again for friendly service and easy parking when I want a warm bowl of Pho! Bonus: Covered parkade available for 2 hours of free parking. Also, it's not far from bus stops and Metrotown station. Credit cards not accepted but debit cards are accepted.

I finally had a chance to visit one of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants in the Lower Mainland. I believe they are famous for pho and other traditional Vietnamese dishes. So, we ordered seafood pho, deep-fried spring rolls, shrimp salad rolls, and lemongrass chicken and pork chop served with rice. The shrimp salad roll was just okay, and the deep-fried spring roll had a lot of minced pork filling. I think there were more ingredients in the filling; however, my impression was that the minced pork dominated. The spring roll sheet was a tad overcooked; it was too crispy and hard. The pho's soup had a lot of flavor; I recommend ordering pho at this place. The lemongrass chicken was good, but I prefer the pork to be sliced a bit thicker. The chicken had a stronger flavor compared to the pork, which was a tad dry. Overall, I think this place specializes in pho. The restaurant is very popular, and there is a big lineup after 6 PM. I will revisit this place when I feel like trying a different flavor of pho.

The long waits are worth it! This new pho joint offers unique selections like crab meat pho (second picture) which is definitely something to try if you've never had it. The interior has also been upgraded with new fixtures and seating. I will say the broth here is a bit saltier for me, but could be what you are looking for if you don't mind!

this is the first visit to bun cha ca hoang yen's burnaby location, situated by kingsway and nelson. conveniently, parking is available both on the street and in their garage. we were a party of three, arriving shortly after 2:00 pm on a friday. upon entering, we were seated in the back, past a noticeable fan that kept the area cool. the ambiance is casual and inviting, well-suited for family meals. the interior features hoang yen's name in striking red lettering on the wall, surrounded by colourful rice paddy hats, each depicting scenes from vietnam. this adds a unique cultural touch to the dining experience. i opted for their three bean drink, a traditional vietnamese dessert drink. this consists of three distinct layers of ingredients: sweetened red beans, mung beans, and pandan jelly. the drink is topped with a generous amount of crushed ice and finished with either coconut or evaporated milk. this blend of textures and flavours creates a refreshing and substantial dessert, particularly enjoyable in warm weather. typically, my go-to dish is their namesake, bun cha ca (a fish cake noodle soup), but this time i decided to share the grilled prawns and chicken with vermicelli. the dish was beautifully garnished with fresh mint, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber slices, and crushed peanuts. i appreciated that they provided a syrup dispenser of nuoc mam (a flavourful fish sauce that adds umami richness to the dish) on the table. this was alongside the usual condiments like hoisin sauce, chili oil, and sriracha. while the dish was visually appealing, the grilled chicken and prawns were slightly disappointing as they tasted a bit dry. it seemed like they might have been pre-cooked and then quickly seared before serving, which affected their juiciness and flavour. the spring rolls were only okay. service was efficient, albeit a bit challenging at times due to the floor plan. when seated in the back, it can be a blind spot for servers, making it harder to get their attention. despite this, the staff was responsive when we did manage to flag them down. note: similar to their vancouver location, this restaurant accepts cash and debit card only. overall, the visit to bun cha ca hoang yen was pleasant. the restaurant's atmosphere, the unique decor, and the refreshing three bean drink were highlights. however, there is room for improvement in the quality of the grilled dishes. given the efficient service and inviting ambiance, it remains a good choice for a family meal or casual dining experience. i look forward to trying their signature bun cha ca on my next visit.

Hoàng Yến is back... and this time, in Burnaby! In celebration of its grand opening, everything is 15% off for the next week. If you can brave the cold in line, then do give it a try. My pick is their specialty Bún Riêu ($17.95), which arguably put them on the map. It is loaded with crab paste and egg slurry, tofu puffs, slices of Vietnamese pork ham and pork leg, shrimp, and tomatoes. The broth is like a warm hug - so rich and flavourful, yet not heavy. While the bowl looks big, I think it could've done with more noodles. Definitely combo up with either the salad roll (Gỏi Cuốn Tôm) or spring roll (Chả Giò) for an additional $5! Between the two, I do like the salad roll more as it's light and refreshing to balance out the pho. Another popular pho which I recommend is the Bún Chả Cá Đặc Biệt ($17.95) because the special fish cake is divine. You can even order that and add the crab as a topping for an additional fee. Unlike Hoàng Yến's sister location on Victoria Dr, this location is a lot smaller so the passageways can get quite congested. The foot traffic was non-stop for its grand opening week and we probably waited about 45 minutes to be seated. I was surprised to see the seating for certain tables, with one individual sat at a four person table and the two of us also initially being sat at one. That said, the service was still great, particularly from the owner's daughter who apologized for the wait and was very personable - even thanking us by name on our way out.

Went 5 days after their grand opening around lunch time. Waited about 25mins for 4pple. Its 15% for the first 2 weeks of grand opening so hit them up! Its a bit small inside, but glad to have them open up another location in Burnaby (1st location is on Victoria Drive and 35th Ave). Staff were very nice and efficient. Food was as usual.

we came to try on weekend, wait more than 1 hour ,lineup outside, but because its famours and we haven't try yet, and also there are 15% off for first 2 weeks, so thats why we decide just wait, each noodle soup is $16.95. more expencive than other pho, but more noodles and meet inside,I heard other customers from another table said its too much noodles. i wish if there has small size will be better for the lady. And we ordered fish soup and house special beef pho noodle, The taste was mediocre, nothing special, and the spring roll was mediocre too. No surprises.

I searched for Vietnamese cafe and I found this place. They have pretty good reviews. I went there with my wife and we ordered grilled half pork and half chicken on rice and pho. This foods didn't disappointed us. I was surprised the broth of the pho was gracefully rich and tasty. The beef balls had natural beef taste. The grilled pork and chicken were having a nice smoked flavour but not burnt. Well done! The owner was there serving the customers and he is friendly and welcoming. At one moment the sunlight came in from the window he immediately went to pull down the bind so the customers won't get the sunlight directly into their eyes. He kept serving tea and refilled frequently. I'm happy with their service. In terms of foods and service quality, this is a place I will definitely return.

Seating can be a bit tight. Staff are friendly. No complaints. The pho is pretty decent. Beef slices and beef balls are decent. Served in clear broth with onions and cilantro. The bean sprouts are buried at the bottom of the bowl, not served on top. Not sure if this means the volume of food is reduced. Overall quality is decent. The other dishes here look pretty good too. Guess I'm coming back at some point.

The potion for the large bowl is HUGE. I almost finished (but that's another story!). The bowl of noodle soup came to the table steaming which I loved. The bean sprouts were lightly blanched and still warm. The taste was actually very good. They managed to keep size and flavour in one. I had the #1 House Special (Rice Noodle Soup With Rare Steak, Brisket, Fatty Flank, Tendon, Tripe and Beef) and my friend had the Vermicelli Noodle bowl of Lemon Grass Chicken with Minced Pork-the chicken was moist and tender and enjoyed a lot. Chicken was seasoned and grilled perfectly. The restaurant is big but not fancy. You come to eat and then go. Service was good as they came by to fill our tea pot and check if all was fine. They were also very generous on the meat portion. The restaurant gets busier at night time. They are open till quite late. One other thing that B and I really liked was their tea. The decor of the restaurant is average. The restaurant was pretty clean and modern when we went. Also they do have lots of tables.

Really lame vegetarian pho -- this is what my review is based on…read more I stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday after noticing they had a vegetarian pho ($14.50 for a small; $15.50 for a large). It does not come with tofu, so I added some (another $4!) to my small size. The pho came out in less than 10 minutes. The pho came with lots of veggies (lots of broccoli, plus cauliflower, carrot, celery, white onion and green onion), plus lots of rice noodles, and tofu. Of course, the broth is usually what makes or breaks a pho, and this was one of the most low-effort, lamest vegetable broths I've tried in Greater Vancouver (and I've tried over 90 pho places in the Metro area that have veggie pho options). In fact, I saw the woman fill up my pho bowl from the hot water dispenser. So, they don't even bother to have a proper veggie broth; they just base the broth on hot water, with maybe some salt and possibly some other spices? The broth tasted like barely salted water. Super lame. Embarrassing product to serve. The value is bad given the very lame quality. I like that they have a veggie pho option. The portion is big and you get lots of vegetables, though the lack of tofu is definitely a thumbs down given the already above average price for the pho. All in all, don't come here for veggie pho. 2 stars is very generous.
