After my amazing experience here the first time I had to come back! This time ordered my favourite Vietnamese staple, beef pho, and spring rolls. The crab spring rolls were so delicious I don't think I've ever had spring rolls this good. Beef pho was also decent. Okay-ish spot for Vietnamese food located just along street of a plethora of other ethnic eateries. ** Service: okay but somewhat slow. Half the restaurant was filled when we got there and it took a while for food to come out, even for the pho which should be relatively quick to put together if they already have the broth ready. My drink was made incorrectly but they kindly remade it for me without issues ** Ambience: clean, relatively small establishment but probably comparable to all the other spots in the general area. They were still able to accommodate our party of 8 by pushing some smaller tables together while utilizing both chairs and booth spaces ** Food: not the best but not the worst. I got the bun ga cha gio (vermicelli with lemongrass chicken and egg rolls), but felt the chicken lacked that charcoal/grilled flavor and did not catch any essence of lemongrass. The menu offers quite a bit of choices. Low sodium option is not available. The salad roll with a loose sauce is easy to dip into. The lemongrass grilled chicken noodle soup is disappointing. Chicken is way over cooked without much of lemongrass flavor. The texture of chicken is odd - very mushy and unappetizing. The special vermicelli set is not that special at all. All dishes are small and the vermicelli is quite dry if not dipping into the meat sauce, which is quite greasy. So happy to finally make it back here! Tre Viet hosted a very successful Yelp Elite event and the food was so great that I've been wanting to return for ages. It's just really far from where I live! Small place right on Denman. I'd been to the old Vietnamese place in this location, but this was my first visit under new ownership. I came to try their Pho chay ($15.95 plus tax). The place was totally full when I visited, other than a couple spots at the counter, which I sat at. The pho came out in about 10 minutes. You get a good portion of medium-width rice noodles, broccoli, carrot, oyster mushrooms, lotus root, and deep fried tofu cubes. The broth was on the bland side though, hence the rating here. Given the high standard for veggie pho in Vancouver, the broth on this one just doesn't compete. Decent spot, friendly service; but if you're looking for veggie pho nearby, better go to nearby Ong Ba (or even Viet Sub or Q&M). read more

Originally ordered their Bun Nem Cua Be but since they ran out, they offered me the leftover 2 hanoi crispy crab parcel with the Bun Cha did the same price. Couldn't say no. Talk about customer service. Both were delicious. The Bun Cha is definitely one of my favorites in Vancouver. Pricing is pretty standard for your Vietnamese places these days. I ordered nuoc cam vat (or fresh orange juice) during a Yelp Elite Event and it was divine. Amazingly sweet and had a good amount of pulp. The flavour was exactly what I was expecting. I also got my partner sinh to bo (avocado smoothie) which was good, but a little too icy for my preference -- not very creamy. It could also be a little more sweet. The service was great despite the restaurant being completely full and bustling. It can get quite loud in there when it's full, but it's still really nice. Great decorations, comfy booth seats. Is it too corny to use the word authentic? Am I being nostalgic because I am sitting outside on a busy street on a hot sunny day with an icy minty lime drink? Like in Hanoi? Our waiter is very accommodating and checks on us a few times. I order the house Banh Mi and it comes out warm and crusty with moist flavourful meat and veggies. They bring out a couple of hot sauces and hoisin of course. But, they set down a container of sliced garlic and peppers in vinegar which is a game changer. I lightly dab some vinegar and a sliver or two of the garlic and one tiny pepper and take a bite. I loved the contrast of the vinegar with the coriander and the slight heat from the pepper. Also, they had added Maggi sauce which pairs so well with the pork. The pickled carrots taste bright and have a tender crunch (not too sweet). I also tried the vermicelli with lemongrass chicken, nice and tender with a light char. So good. Bathroom is very clean. Definitely our favorite spot for Vietnamese on Denman. read more

Pho-tastic! As is the case with most, if not all, things in life, first impressions matter a lot when trying out new cuisines, restaurants, dishes et al. Thanks to Tre Viet, I had the pleasure of going on an unforgettable culinary adventure in what was my first ever rendezvous with Vietnamese food (gasp! Where have you been all my life?!). I'm finally out of the lengthy food coma that was induced during said dinner a fortnight ago, hence this delayed review! This neat and new local small business is just a few months young. Akin to the location of the Vietnamese island in Southeast Asia, Tre Viet is tucked away in the bustling and happening West End neighborhood of Vancouver. With paid parking lots and street spots in the vicinity, getting to this retreat is easy peasy. I lucked out by finding a 2 Hours Free parking spot a couple of blocks away (though parallel parking on Denman St is nerve-wracking!). Needless to say, the evening was off to a great start! Thankfully I was not the only one in my group who was going to be trying this cuisine for the first time, so sharing a table and the yummy food with Vietnamese food vets and newbies ensured that the entire evening was fun and delightful. Soon after the elaborate menu got us drooling, the magicians masquerading as the fantastic Tre Viet staff started serenading us with magical dish after dish after delish. And I was blown away by the beautiful plating of the items, the heavenly aroma, and the complexity and depth of flavors in every dish. We started with the Sai Gon Imperial Spring Rolls which were crispy and fresh, setting the tone for an incredible meal. The Tre Specialties platter was a highlight, with the Bun Cha Ha Noi Style Vermicelli Noodles and charred pork slices being a standout. The pork meatball was tender and flavorful, and the Bun Nem Cua Be Ha Noi Style Vermicelli Noodles with crisp crab parcel was another delightful surprise. The Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Rice Plate was aromatic and savory, and the Tre's Special Soup with salted superior egg beef ball was rich and comforting, especially on that cold, overcast evening. But the pièce de résistance was the Pho Noodle Soup, with its velvety broth and tender beef. Throughout the meal, Jamie and his team of kind and attentive staff Annie, Chloe, Taylor, and head chef Tony worked tirelessly to deliver a master class in hospitality. With additional ingredients such as a cozy atmosphere plus a warm and inviting ambiance thrown in, this heartening mixture was the perfect recipe for a memorable dinner. Tre Viet has won me over, so they've earned a well-deserved 5 stars and a permanent spot on my favorite restaurants list! I can't wait to return with my wife and explore more of the menu. we came by on sunday a little after 1:00 pm and this place was full and there was a crowd outside. glad to see that tre viet is doing well, but we had to wait approximately 30 to 45 minutes to get a seat. jamie took my name and number down, so we took a lazy stroll and explored the stores and restaurants around denman and english bay. we were seated at 2:00 pm and was promised they would add another table as soon as the other party next to us left. we were a party of three and had ordered the anchovy chicken wings to share. i had their refreshingly thirst quenching calamansi iced tea, and grilled chicken banh mi. the baguette was crusty and had a nice soft chew. i enjoyed the flavours and textures of the grilled chicken with pickled carrots and daikon along with their tre viet mayo, fresh cucumber and cilantro. read more

Let me start by saying I usually don't leave a review unless I really hate or love it! In this case, I LOVE it! My family and I are on our vacation and first time in Vancouver. It's really hard to trust Yelp especially it is subjective to each persons taste. Tonight's experience is different and my entire family is very happy and beyond satisfied with our meal. The two dishes we ordered are BUN CHA HA NOI and Lemongrass pork chop with double sunny side eggs. The lemon grass rice dish was great. But the BUN CHA HA NOI was outstanding. I've had this dish in different variation but all were okay. However, here was different. Presentation of the food looked beautiful. The pork slices and patties were perfectly marinated. The pickled carrots and papaya were a must and they had them. Along with the side dish of minced garlic and fresh chilies. The noodles were warm with fresh herbs and veggies. I've never been to Vietnam, but the taste of this dish allows me to imagine Ha Noi Vietnam. Now let's talk about service. The gentleman who served us was super sweet. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the restaurant was small, exceptionally clean, and bright. Lots of pictures of Vietnam on the walls. Excellent menu, there is something for everyone. We decided on pho. I had the well-done brisket pho, and it was delicious. The pho was quite spicy, just the way I like it. There were other ingredients at the table that could be added to the pho, The bowl was huge and I could not finish it all, even though I wish I could have. The server was friendly and helpful. Tre Viet was almost full at 6PM on a Friday night. We were promptly seated and read the menus in this well-lit cafe. We ordered a spring roll that was delicious. After the appetizer, we ordered a chicken with lemongrass and a pork dish with lemongrass. Each came with deep fried rolls, rice and a clear broth and salad greens. For dessert there was a tasty Vietnamese coffee-flavored flan. Ariana Grande happened to be on the TV screen in concert in the background, which would have been fine to enjoy if we were a party of one. And it became a point of conversation over dinner - "what singers are you listening to these days?" - so we wove it in to the experience. As well, there were three porcelain cats all wearing red poppies on the eve of Remembrance Day. We'll be sure to return. A fine addition to choices to dine on Denman Street. read more
