If you are looking for a good burger or hotdog, and fries made out of real, fresh potatoes... this place is top notch. My main criticisms of this place (which prevented me from giving them five stars), are that it's consistently difficult to find a clean table at which to sit, and why don't they serve onion rings? I've heard many good reviews of Five Guys, so hubby and a couple friends and I decided to try it out. Their regular burger comes with 2 patties and their little burger comes with 1 patty. I got a little cheeseburger with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, tomato, ketchup, mayo and pickles. Hubby and I shared a regular fries, half cajun, half normal. The burger was ok, I was very disappointed with the "grilled onions," (they were lightly steamed if that) and they slapped on way too much mayo. The cajun fries were much better than the regular fries, but they still weren't great. They are thick and kind of soggy. In-n-out is hands down better than Five Guys, but being that Five Guys is right around the corner, I will probably try it again. It is better than any fast food burger in the area. Pros: We did see Phil Mickelson when we were there. I guess he is an owner. Their soda machine is futuristic cool. They offer free peanuts in the shell. Cons: No milkshakes. The burger patty was dry and it was a really busy Sunday afternoon so I didn't get how they could have possibly overcooked it to be THAT dry. The fries were good, peanut oil definitely makes a difference. The extra star was definitely for the fries. And I don't even like fries. A good old greasy, melted cheesy burger hits the spot sometimes, and today was one of those days. There's a big mound of potatoes in the middle of the restaurant that have yet to be peeled and eaten, so it came to no surprise that they were generous with their fries, one of the few places you can order them Cajun style, the taste of which took me way back. That what this place is, a throwback to eating a delicious, sloppy burger with no regard to the consequences: a belly full of happiness. I wanted to give this place a 2 but, my husband insisted on giving them a 3. So actually 2 1/2 is good. The place is always crowed-the people are very friendly and the place is clean. The burgers are just ok. They do need to work on perfecting them. The cheese is NEVER melted-just slapped on. The bacon however is good and crispy. Five Guys is kind of expensive for something that isn't really very special. Don't get me wrong, the burgers are decent. And decent is fine, except when you're charging for "very good". What takes it down from 3 stars to 2 for me (I'd really give them 2.5 honestly) are the prices. The standard Five Guys cheeseburger is very close in price to some much better burgers from places like Chili's or Islands, and Island's burger comes with endless fries! Me and a friend each getting a burger, fries, and a drink, is like a $27 affair. If I want to spend that much on a burger meal, down the street at fancypants Solace you can get a f$@#ing *fantastic* huge burger and fries for 11 bucks and come out nearly equal, even after tax and tip. In fact this is exactly why I am singularly confused as to why 5G gets compared to In-N-Out so often. About the only similarity between them is that they are both burger chains. In-N-Out is a fast food joint with a drive-through and In-N-Out burgers are literally less than half the price; I can get TWO Double-Doubles for the price of a standard 2-patty cheeseburger here. And despite all that, In-N-Out *still* wins in quality in a lot of ways. While they aren't as meaty, In-N-Out's sponge dough buns are fantastic, their produce (lettuce, tomatoes, onions) are much much fresher and better tasting, and their grilled onions are tastier and more caramelized. Of course it's nice that you get to pick toppings at Five Guys, but the toppings themselves are of unimpressive quality (shredded lettuce instead of leafed, dried-out diced onions instead of slices), and the flavorless bun will fall apart like store-brand grocery store stuff. It's not just this location, either. I ate at a 5G in Connecticut and it was essentially identical. I have to say that I do like their fries and I appreciate when they dump loads of them in my to-go bag. But as far as the burgers, for me the best thing Five Guys has going for it is that it is way closer than In-N-Out or The Habit. I'd go to either of those places instead if either were close -- they're both better and cheaper. read more

The first time I went to 5 guys, I was surprised to see 2 hamburger patties in my bun. I thought I got away with something and debated....should I give one patty back? I decided not to do that as they would not use it again. On my second trip, I noticed 2 patties again and realized I was not let in on some very important secret. Now, I am clear. The cajun fries are also outstanding, as well as the beverage options in those "do it yourself" machines that can make just about anything. Generally, I'm not a fan of a restaurant that brags more than the imagined offspring of Kanye West and Terrell Owen's love child, but I suppose such a restaurant wouldn't want to overwhelm their customers with the potential awesomeness of a gigantic mural of 70's Burt Reynolds with his chest hair flowing in the wind or maybe Tom Selleck in the shortest shorts ever created for a man a la Magnum P.I. If you want delicious freedom fries then you've come to the wrong place. Granted the freshness is there but a freedom fry should brighten up your day, it should make you want eat that third porterhouse steak for dinner, or do an extra thousand pushups after your daily regiment of a thousand butt crunches for the ladies. I like the burgers at 5 guys but avoid this one. The place was freezing. When I told the employee that it was freezing they told me that it gets warm by the grill. All of the customers took their food outside even though it was a cool overcast day. Clearly the employees value their own comfort over the customers comfort. I had to review this place because someone gave it a one star which just isn't true. Food poisoning usually starts in 2-6 hours (not the next day). So I'm pretty sure it wasn't this place. Really fast service, quick lines, and an awesome soda machine. Had to increase the star average because I like this burger. In-N-Out is good for consistency. 5ive Guys offers variety with their toppings and cajun fries. I prefer the regular 5 guys fries because it seems to me that the generic cajun spice slightly overpowers the true potato flavor. Aye. *Pro tip: Upon receiving your order, keep the bag open to prevent steaming the fries and to preserve what crispiness they may have. 5G's meat-to-bun ratio beats INO by far. A little cheeseburger at 5G seems equivalent to a dub dub at INO. And by my experience, juicier. The cheese at 5G seems creamier too. Produce is fresh. Jalapenos are raw. Bacon is super cwisp. Fries are fresh cut. But the backyard BBQ buns can't beat INO's sponge dough OG bun. Nap Time! read more

What's all the hype with places cooking their fries in peanut oil? I just don't get it and I absolutely do not approve. It not only gives the fries a funny taste, but a lot of the oil is soaked in to the fry itself making it even greasier than normal fries. The brown paper bag that my fries came in was soaked through by the time I got out to the parking lot and in to my car. Aside from the fries being an abomination and too salty, I do have high remarks for the burger itself. It was pounded out before me and grilled to perfection. Tender, moist and medium-rare. I chose not to add mushrooms or onions to it either as to see if the burger itself can stand up on its own. It totally passes with flying colors! read more

This place is OVERRATED!!!! I had high expectations about this place but it was a huge disappointment. First of the burgers are unnecessarily oily and greasy and the fries are just a disappointment. I literally took a bite out of one fry and set it down since it was really soggy not so tasty. They also give you the option to add all these sorts of toppings but adding all the toppings it makes the burger even worst. The burger tends to be to big and forces you to use a knife and a fork. If you don't use any utensils and you have every topping possible on the burger it just becomes a mess while eating it with your hands. Also the price is way to much for what it is......i rather go to in-n-out for their reasonable prices and way better burgers and fries. o yeah also their consistency. read more

Definitely a good burger, and the location is very clean. However, I've come to this location on a few occasions during my lunch and I'm always very disappointed. The amount of time that it takes for me to get one burger is absolutely ridiculous. It should not take 20 minutes to make a burger especially when there's only two other customers in the restaurant! This has happened EVERY time I've gone there. Based off their awful time management and slacking I'd rather head to the new Habit, or even all the way down to In-n-out for an actual quick bit to eat. read more

This is one of those cases where I went in having heard a lot of good things about the place and left a bit disappointed. I ordered a little cheeseburger with most of the ingredients and split some regular fries. The burger was pretty good. In-N-Out is better, but this was at least a cut above the rest of the average fast food burgers out there. The fries on the other hand were not very good. They were overcooked, soggy, and cold. The touch-screen soda machines were interesting - unfortunately one of them broke and people were causing long lines trying to figure out how to use them. Free peanuts is nice - downside of that is custodians constantly in the way sweeping up shells. I'll come back again in a couple of months and see if they work out the new store kinks - definitely skipping the fries and getting a bigger burger though. read more

I really was looking forward to eating my Bacon 'All the Way' burger but it just had very little flavor. I had to end up using Ranch dressing to get flavor but for 9.00, you would expect a great tasting burger. The staff was friendly and I like the free peanuts. It was clean inside and outside of the establishment but for 9.00, I'd much rather go to In-N-Out and get two Doubles or even McD's for two Quarter pounders and have a bit of change left in my pocket. The meat, the cheese and the bacon here are very tasty. There is a good selection of toppings you can choose from to make it your way, I personally however prefer when a place offers a signature burger so I can get the same flavor combo each time. The fries are ok, but are served a bit greasy making them a little on the soggy side if you don't eat them right away. The lines can get long, so I would plan on having an early or late lunch or dinner to avoid waiting more than 20 minutes. read more

The fries make me a fan! The price and burgers make me want to give this place less stars! I hate that there are NO meal deals. Your burger will be $5-$8 alone. Fries are another 3 bucks. Drink is another couple bucks. We spent $21 to eat there. that $21 got us: one basic regular cheeseburger, one bacon cheeseburger, one order of fries and two small drinks. And we got the same sh** that WENDY'S serves!! I'm sorry, but I had a bacon cheeseburger from here that tasted exactly like the baconator at Wendy's! This is my first visit to 5 guys, and I'm impressed, the price is high, but as they say, you get what you pay for. Its rather hit this place once a week than in and out twice a week, hands down! They serve free peanuts by the case, to lunch on while waiting for the meal, and everything is prepared out in the open till observe that all is fresh. They're open till 10, 7 dys a week, one hour later than shoot of other restaurants. All burger toppings are free, except bacon and cheese, and they offer a variety of milkshake flavors. We've tried other places from drive-thru to sit-down places and none of those burger's live up to the 5 Guys Bacon Cheese burger with tomatoes, onions, lettuce and cajun fries. We typically get the Junior burger becaus ethe regular ones are so huge! It's a ton of calories but when you are craving good a burger and fries you're not really concerning yourself with your caloric intake. read more

OK, do all you guys have a giant stick up your ass or something? Just kidding, but seriously, I was expecting better reviews. I went/heard about this place for the first time a few weeks ago. They are similar to In-N-Out I suppose, but I think they are way better. They have TONS of choices for things to go on top of your burger (grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, raw onions, bbq sauce, A1, the list goes on...) all for free! There are NO combos here which is kind of a turn off, it'd be nice if regular fries (which is quite large for someone like me) was only a dollar more if you already bought a burger (instead of being another 2.99). But I thought the fries were seasoned and cooked deliciously. I go there with my BF and we usually both end up getting a burger and 1 order of regular fries and we never feel like we were jipped or should have gotten more. We usually have extra fries. Yes, this place is pretty greasy! Mostly because of the fries though, because my buns have never been soggy, and the toppings are always good quality and tasty. Their bacon is good, seemingly crumbled all over the top of the burger. As someone else mentioned, their "little burger" is just a one patty burger, which is a good size. I'd say that this place is more expensive than In-N-Out but you also most definitely get a lot more. I think I have found my new favorite hamburger joint. We gave this establishment a real chance by going there 4 or so times over the first month in Encinitas. But they are too high priced for what you get. I mean c,mon - a $6.59 big bacon cheeseburger that is worth around $3.50. The little hamburgers are worth around $2.50 at best. The fries are good but should be priced at $2.99 not $4.99. We've been here several times since we live close by and come here when we're in the mood for fast food burger without going to a "sit down style restaurant". It does beat the fast food chains close by such as BK, McDonalds. It's comparable to InNOut for it's "traditional" style of burgers and fresh potatoes for fries. Remember that their regular size fries are huge and meant to be shared. The Cajun style I didn't care for as much since it came off more soggy. Keep in mind the regular style burger is "double patties", so specify the single patty for less money. I do appreciate their soda fountain which has the most flavors I've ever seen!
