My husband and I love Five Guys burgers and their cajun fries (A must-try!!), but this review is all about the customer service at this particular branch. We've been to several Five Guys around San Diego, and this place, by far, is memorable to us because of their 5 star customer service. They greet everyone coming in and OUT with a great smile, and they even check on us to see if all is well with our food. Plus, the place is so freaking clean, including the bathrooms! Love it! This branch deserves major props for the customer service and upkeep.... and I haven't even really said much about the food yet! :) Keep it up! read more

Love this place, burgers are great! I skip the bun and they are the only ones who have figured out how to wrap the lettuce so you don't get mustard all over your hands...ok maybe you still get a little. Fries are great too. Buffet of soda options is nice. The only downside, no chicken so my husband who doesn't eat red meat wont join me for one of these. But otherwise, highly recommend. read more

They need to go back to fry school and relearn how to cook frys, i don't want greasy soggy frys for $5. You had one job, leave frys in until they are cooked and you fail every time. I have to ask to get em extra crispy just to get cooked normally. These guys are so nice to everyone. Sure, they could act a little macho and flirty with some girls but they get their job done. Burgers and fries are freaking amazing. My girlfriend always order hotdogs and fries. In Encinitas where everything could be "healthy" and pricey, I welcome burgers and fries openly into my tummy. Way worth the price! May even be up to par with In-N-Out. Definitely worth a shot if you haven't been. They also take orders online! Lookit that. You can just come by and pick up your order. Food was very expensive- the cashier, which is one of my students at LCC, was very rude and unwelcoming. I have suspicions of him vaping in the school parking lots, but have never been able to confirm it. This is a story about a burger joint and a good Marketing plan. Wait! This is a story about a burger joint and a scheme: Convince the American public of good burger food by Sunday evening television viewing of the likes of an American President, frequenting a Washington D.C. location. Okay, it's not just that, but it's not that far off, either! Somehow, during lunch and dinner periods, this chain has figured out a way to convince restaurant-goers to pour in by the droves, for a product that has no flavor. Oh, but by the way, be prepared to pay over $10 dollars for what they call a "Little Bacon Cheeseburger, Fries and a small drink. So I am handed my empty cup from the young, motivated employer, who practically held me at gunpoint for a "weeny-sized" combo meal and I proceeded to the "State of the Art" Softdrink dispenser for my Cola product. You know the other 4-letter word cola? ;-) The machine produced a super-flat, terrible cola. Only for the young employees to be doing their best at their age, to make us anxious-customers happy and finally after ten minutes, get us a softdrink. Ughhh! So the burger and fries come out. For the fries, they weren't bad. Cooked in Peanut oil, and not a bad flavor and hot and fresh. Probably the best thing this place with EVER have going for it. But then the Burger. ok so remember, I ordered the "Little Bacon Cheeseburger". It came out and the bacon was burnt to a crisp and I mean, there were black burnt portions of what they called bacon, which was about as this as paper. Almost! The burger itself was bland! PERIOD!! So after taking this first bite into the burger, I asked about the bacon. That is when this young, motivated employee, eager to satisfy my needfull objection of burnt cured pork, proceeded to tell me to keep the burger and they'd make me a fresh one and correct the burnt bacon problem. About 5-7 minutes later, a new burger was produced. Another counter clerk stated that the bacon is only cooked well-done as the burgers are and that is that. No other way. Soooooo, I took a few bites of the replacement burger and called it quits for the evening, placing my $10.74 cent dinner remnants into the nearest trash receptacle, only to hopefully soon, know it would go to crowd the landfills off Highway 52. To summize, the corporate management, must have a level of controlling employees like no other company in Corporate America. Don't get me wrong, the kids seemed to get to work here, do a pretty good job. They are motivated to provide to you the best service they know, which is asking alot, coming from probably, a 17 year old. Probably their first job? Hands down the WORST-tasting burger food I have ever had, EVER! I am not saying this place can't make any necessary change, but they sure should consider it, otherwise, "Go back to wherever it is that you came from". Not impressed... The venue was completely lifeless, as were the workers, and the product left me with nothing but buyers remorse. The burger was average at best, yet was priced as a sit down restaurant yet it's fast food. The fries were great ranch fries, but when I asked for ranch they said they didn't serve it, but offered BBQ sauce instead... That's just offensive for some reason... As I said on my check-in that day, I shamefully admit that I wish I would have put on my largest sunglasses, hat and bowed my head to go to McDonalds instead. i saw this place passing by on my way to the freeway one day and thought i'd give it a try. the place is nice on the inside, the staff is courteous and the simple menu makes me think of in n out...but that's where the similarities end. the burgers aren't nearly as tasty as in n out and they're a bit pricier. they do give a couple more ingredient choices but the patties didn't have the same home made feel as in n out and they didn't taste as good. the grilled mushrooms look like they were canned mushrooms that were grilled, not fresh ones. i'd put the burgers in the same category as wendy's or six dollar from carl's jr with he caveat that the lettuce and tomatoes seemed fresher (mushrooms were canned) i also got the cajun fries. i love natural cut fries and i like cajun spice so i thought that would be a win/win. nope. the fries were soggy and they put entirely way too much of the spice on the fries making them inedibly salty or if you do eat them, you'll need a tall glass of water to wash down the salt. would i go back? probably not. why go here when i can get a better burger for cheaper at in n out? read more

Five guys burgers aren't too bad, but they are not worth the price at all. Also, I deliver for Doordash and pick up here pretty often. Every single time I come in, the meal is not ready by the pick up time. Doordash gives them 15 minutes to complete the order, and I as the driver have to pick it up by a certain time and deliver by a certain time. Every time I come in, they just barely get started on the fries and it's so annoying. They always say it's going to be a few minutes and you end up waiting for 10-15 additional minutes. All of the workers appear to be under the influence of weed. Annoying. I get it's a part time restaurant job, but cmon. Get your stuff together management! There's no way you should have to wait that long for a meal. read more

i've been to five guys so I came here with low expectations... They are still doing construction in the area so I parking was a bit difficult to find. the service was nice and was greeted upon arrival. I only ordered fries that ended up costing my like 6 bucks. WHAT DA HELL?! Really? wow. Nonetheless, being a potato freak, I still found a way to savor each bite. Hell if i'm gonna pay 6 bucks, I better enjoy every bite!!! I was nice giving two stars. Really am sorry guys, wanted to like you a lot but just couldn't. However I always try a place twice, because I know an opening can start rough around the edges. I was excited to try these cajun fries I've kept hearing about, and to my dismay that was the worst part of the meal for me. I was happy to see they wait to cook them until I place the order, but I would have been happier to wait another ten minutes to have them cooked all the way through. Soggy, gross, and waay too much cajun seasoning. There is a balance that needs to be found; I had to drive home with the windows down so I could breath. First, maybe last visit today, Wednesday at 2:30. LOTS of kids, running around apparently enthralled with the do it yourself beverage machines. I paid $6.25 for a basic cheeseburger. It took a surprisingly long time to get. I had time to observe the line and the managers didn't seem particularly happy and the teen employees didn't seem to be either. Sooooooo disappointed!! As an east coast native, I was beyond excited when Five Guys was coming out west. I tried the one in San Marcos and thought it was terrific! I ordered a burger with everything on it and fries. They were worth every calorie!! I went to the one in Encinitas about two weeks after it opened (thought I'd give them some time to get thru grand opening growing pains). UGH - not a great experience and it turned me off to Five Guys altogether. I went at 6:30 on a Friday evening. They were really busy but I was willing to wait. There were so many people working behind the counter to get burgers & fries cooked. The food prep workers were all diligentlyworking fast and hard, but no one seemed to be getting their orders. Strange!!! I waited over 20 minutes for my burger and fries. Only one of each - it's not like I ordered a dozen burgers, all with different toppings. By the time my order came, my 4 year old had had it and was crying to go home. No big deal, I'll eat my burger at home. Wrong. When I got home, it was cold, soggy and nothing but a big mess. I tried it anyway. Gross. It had congealed and just fallen apart. I had to throw the whole thing away. It just didn't transport well in a less than 10 minute drive. I had heard so much about 5 guys burgers, how wonderful the experience was etc etc. I've been there a few times and here is my take: Burgers are pretty good. It's nice to be able to choose whatever toppings I like, and heck do I like my toppings..unfortunately the burger buns are not so great and don't stand up to much before getting all soggy. Fries are really good, but again I have a issue with the serving size. They either give too much or too little.....very irritating indeed! Soda machine is brilliant. Raspberry Vanilla Diet Coke is a winner for me!!!! Prices are like buying a good burger at Chilli's or Islands, kinda on the heavy side, only you get them served in a brown paper bag, which for me cheapens the whole feel of the place. So much wasted paper. They should look closely at how In-n-Out do it. Trays are king and re-usable. Overall I recommend 5 Guys as a once in a while option in town. Just make sure it's an early lunch otherwise you will not want dinner. read more

I got food poisoning from eating here. I was violently ill and had to take two days off of work. I called the manager and she tried to tell me that it couldn't have been their food because I became very ill 7 hours after eating there. She claimed food poisoning takes 32 hours to kick in. It was only their 2nd day open so they really need to work on proper food handling. read more

Last night I checked out all the hype over 5 Guys. After 8 pm the place was still fairly crowded on a Friday night. Lots of teenagers 'working' behind the counter that looked pretty clueless. For the amount of customers and food produced.......they could cut the staff by 40-50% and lower their prices. I think the catch or marketing pitch for 5 guys is that you can add all kinds of toppings to your burger. Even grilled mushrooms or grilled onions. Over $10 later for a double burger and regular fry (no drink) I found out that apparently a lot people don't mind getting ripped off. The fries weren't even close to McDonald's or even In n Out's. But they give you a HUGE amount in a regular size fry. The regular would feed at least 3 people! They only offer soft drink's--no milk shakes. Ever heard of a burger place not offer a milk shake? Un-American! But this place has free peanuts in the shell for when you are waiting for your food to come up--makes quite the mess on the floor! The burger itself was pretty good, but the bun was too soft and couldn't adequately hold the contents. I also felt they cheated on the amount of lettuce, and grilled onions. Tomato--totally unripe and crunchy. Tomato was crunchier than their french fries. I can say I've been to 5 guys, and will still be baffled by all the hype. Good marketing plan, but won't be surprised when they go by the way of Crispy Kreme or other over-hyped establishments. Give me Carl's, In n' Out, Mc Donald's or Jack In the Box over this place. read more

Good service, greasy food. Not bad but really East Coast tasting. The dining room is really warm and your clothes smell like burgers and fried food when you leave. Turn on the AC, degrease the burgers, wrap them in paper so they aren't soggy when you open them up and tone down the propaganda (best this, best that). First time I ordered a veggie burger and was totally unimpressed....NO KIDDING :) I wasn't aware that you get to choose as many toppings as you want. Tonight I ordered a simple cheeseburger with grilled onions mushrooms peppers pickles mayo and ketchup....YUM. Pricey for a fast food burger but damn it was good.
