It's really a bummer that my experience here wasn't great as I've been looking forward to trying this place for some time. Our food came out cold. I got a chicken bowl and it was just cold, in fact, the chicken was colder than the rice below it. My MIL got a tri tip bowl and the beef was cold and it was really REALLY tough. My kid's food came out really hot - I'm guessing our plates were just left out while they finished the rest of the order. I will say that I do like the health food angle they're going for, and despite the cold food, none of it felt greasy, heavy, or overly salty, which I appreciate. First time trying this restaurant. Located in La Costa Town Square, there's plenty of parking on a Saturday at 11:30am. Walking in, there were no customers inside and just a couple of people outdoor on the patio. It's set up like an Urban Plates where you order at the register then take a number and seat yourself. The food is then brought out to you. We ordered the California Burger, Beef Empanada and the Vegan Avocado Hummus Sandwich. I ordered food "to go" at 7:45pm for my daughter and I. There was a large party of people that kindly let me go before them because they hadn't decided yet. Somehow, their food came out first. They were all eating their meals which included steaks, etc. We had ordered 2 plates to go. I asked about my order and they said it wasn't ready yet in an "annoyed voice". Right after I sat back down, they called me up for my order. My other concern is that the staff was cleaning while they were cooking the food including the hoods over the grills that had food on it. They started cleaning around me and the table I was sitting at, while I was sitting there. It definitely felt like they wanted me to leave. I had to check, maybe they were closing, but it was 8pm and they close at 9pm. I was shocked at this behavior. I don't know why they were treating me like that, I don't think I said anything rude. I felt like I was being kind and just ordered simple items from the menu without any adjustments. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't tip because I was getting it "to go". Maybe they were angry at that. Either way, they shouldn't treat customers the way they treated me. As for the food, they didn't give me the included bread sides (I didn't want to go back in to ask for them and deal with the employees again), the rice was greasy. The chicken was good but the chimichurri steak tasted fishy for some reason. My daughter tasted the steak too just in case my taste buds were off and she tasted the same weird fish taste. We're disappointed because its a convenient location for my daughter and her team (30 teammates) to go eat at after cheer practice but we're going to have to pick someplace else. read more

I eat at Bushfire quite often, both at the Del Mar and Carlsbad locations. It feels like home cooked food to me, simple, satisfying, and delicious. I like the seating area at the Del Mar location a bit better, and it's also closer to me. However, the food and presentation and service at the Carlsbad location are slightly better in my experience. I was not impressed a few months back with the food but I decided to give it another try as I got off work late and wanted to feed my kids. I had dinner there on Tuesday and the top of my mac and cheese was hard, and the chicken was tough and dry. My son didn't finish his chicken sandwich and said "it's not good.". My other son has chicken tenders but it's basically three small tenders in a big bucket of fries. The worst of my complaint is that I have been sick since Wednesday morning suffering from what is most likely a food borne illness. I see other people have reported the same thing. I hadn't ordered in a while so I decided to go for the salmon bowl. I noticed a bad taste in my mouth and was confused, as they're normally pretty good. I cut open the salmon to find that part of the insides were like, very dark and poor tasting. It's unlike any salmon I've ever tried from them. We went here recently after going to the nearby theater. The menu was different, easy to walk up and order your food. There was seating outdoors but no heaters setup so really if you go when it's cooler you can only sit inside which is limited.it would have been nice if they had the heaters near the tables rather than off to the side where they aren't being used. It would maximize the space and allow for more guests. We almost didn't end up going inside because of the seating and no outside options. read more

Today I decided on the braised grass-fed brisket bowl with jasmine rice and mixed veggies. The meat is super tender and juicy while the veggies have a nice variety and are sautéed. Didn't like when they changed out the clear glass at the counter to hide the sides. Those visuals were important. What were they now trying to hide? Located in the La Costa town square, there is plenty of parking for this restaurant. We came here around 1 pm on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. They have a decent menu filled with bowls, plates, sandwiches, burgers, etc. We got the Thai chicken curry bowl, the steak plate, empanadas (chicken, beef, veggie), and a kombucha, followed by a couple of glasses of wine. My friend had to ask them to cook the steak again as it wasn't as medium as she wanted but otherwise enjoyed her plate. The Thai chicken curry bowl was excellent! This would be my recommendation for this restaurant. I would also definitely recommend adding the roasted Korean cauliflower for an extra crunch and flavor profile. The empanadas were all delicious and we couldn't pick a winner! The kombucha and wine were good too. We stayed here for about 3 hours and it didn't get busier so we had a lot of privacy for ourselves.
