    Inside menu display of burritos

Not unlike El Pueblo, the cheap Al Pastor and fish tacos are pretty decent! The TJ street taco sized tortillas are a bit on the small size but overall can't beat the deal. Also "on special", I tired the shrimp diablo burrito (shrimp, rice, beans, and cheese) - mostly rice filler but the beans have good flavor. I suppose if you're on a budget it's pretty filling and not terrible. No complaints on the breakfast burrito nor the fair price to add sour cream. Pretty much what you'd expect out of a standard SD BB. That being said, this would not be my choice for a Cali burrito. Sadly, basically a ton of soft undercooked fries and little meat and even less of the guac pico and SC. Too bad they skimp on the carne asada because it seemed like decent meat. Salsas are pretty mediocre "to be expected" milder red, spicier red, habanero, Verde, and a cream based cilantro lime if you're into that weirdness. Maybe it's nitpicking but I always find it weird to charge more than the menu prices which I'm going to assume is a 4% CC upcharge without any mention. I won't even penalize for the friendly yet "grab your food and move along" seeing as it was 15 mins to close.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is clean and the service was polite and efficient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When trying a new place I always go with a carne asada burrito as a baseline to compare to my favorites. Serrano's carne asada burrito came with carne, guacamole and pico de gallo. For $14-15 it seemed on the small side. The meat seemed to be of decent quality with no gristle. Something, I don't know if it was the marinade or the pico but there was a sweet taste to the burrito. I tried the their two red salsas, spicy and mild. Both were underwhelming in my opinion. I'm one and done with my Serranos career

The Cali Breakfast Burrito was bomb. And huge!! Salsas were yummy. Service was great.

$1 dollar al pastor and fish tacos everyday! Weekly deals. Absolutely delicious and worth every penny here at Serranos Mexican Food Restaurant. Their horchata is the perfect consistency and so good! We will be back next time we are in town.

It's not $7 even for just egg and cheese!!

They advertise prices in the outside and the menu prices in their board are not what you get charged. Example a breakfast burrito says $9.95 on the board but when it's rang up it's $11.95. . This isn't the first time I've addressed it , they just need to update their menu it's been months! Still good food but I get sticker shock after a family of four orders because their prices are $2-$3 higher than what it says inside.

Just wanted to write a followup review. Near a PB park in ENC we play at Monday mornings. Do k Oct after. Just very good food and very reasonable price plus daily specials. Had some fish, pastor tacos. So good. Also tried taquitos. Very good. Highly recommend and great service.

This spot never lets me down. Been coming here for years and it's the same great tasting meat, salsas, and perfectly made tortillas that keep me coming back. From sopes, burritos, to street tacos....most of what you get here will be delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And you can't beat how close it is to the beach! Grab some d food and go watch the sunset from the bench at moonlight beach.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Highly recommend muy rico el burrito

The food was amazing just had the jalapeño popper and they had e frat daily specials too

    Breakfast burrito #7-great!

Excellent breakfast burritos for a reasonable price! It was a perfect balance of eggs, potatoes, bacon, and tortilla. We asked for easy cheese and it was just right. The cheese was nice and gooey, not the pre shredded that never melts. The bacon was large chunks of crispy pork. And the variety of salsas gave it that extra zing. Perfect location: lots of parking and only 1/2 mile from beach. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff were professional and helpful. We'll be back!!

This is the 2nd time we've come to this place and it was really good. The beef had a lot of flavor. Fast service too and staff were friendly. It does get busy but when we went it wasn't that busy which was nice. The only negative thing I'd have to say was the trash can. Both were pretty full and hadn't been changed in a while. The restaurant overall was not bad and we would definitely be coming back when we are in town again.

Still yummy and fair price Pros: great food, very authentic. Chic tortilla soup comes with lots of items on the side so you can enhance as you like. Al pastor is super yummy. Fair prices, especially with all the other restaurants gauging people. Had catering from here once, it was great! Cons: hmmmm, I'll have to come back to you, can't think of any. Owners are very nice and helpful.

outside of the prices, the food is great! I love their breakfast burritos and recently ordered the tacos. you can never go wrong with a carne asada quesadilla, everything is delicious. They have a great salsa selection, the habanero salsa is still my favorite. ample seating inside to eat and the woman is always friendly and helpful. their tacos, burritos, and quesadilla are on the pricier side, but their breakfast burritos are well worth it!

Stick to items with corn tortillas and you should be good. That's my wife's strategy.

I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos and a house coffee. The coffee was actually pretty good! Cream and sugar were delivered separately to finish with your preference. As for the tacos, it was okay. The fish was a bit dry for my liking, cabbage could have been chopped with more finesse, and I wished they QC'd their limes a bit before putting them on the plate. Both were bone dry and I had to ask for more. Moreover, the cilantro lime rice was also a bit bland. It needed salt to lift the flavors in my opinion. There weren't even flecks of green if it was supposed to be cilantro? I tried boyfriend's veggie hash but was disappointed to find that it was almost all potatoes. Having said that, it was an extremely generous portion so he was filled up. While I didn't try it, our friend that had the chorizo hash also said it was okay so I'm guessing the ratio wasn't quite right. Anyways, ask for their chili sauce on the side, that's actually quite surprising. It had really good heat and was more like a chili crisp than a vinegary hot sauce. The plates that did score favorably at the table were the carne chilaquiles and the divorced eggs.

Luckily we were given the tip to try El Nopalito which is located just off the northbound Santa Fe Drive exit on the 5. You might want to look at google maps if you don't know the area which is in an older somewhat run down strip mall. Don't let that fool you though, appearances can be deceiving. Indise El Nopalito is clean and fairly large, probably seating around sixty. The kitchen can be viewed from where you order, which I like. We ordered nothing but tacos for starters to see what we liked, they have 21 types of tacos on the menu, so we chose Carnitas, Carne Asada, and El Pastor. Good choices all, freshly made, well seasoned, great toppings and big portions. The two of us were almost full just eating the three tacos. But no, we wanted more, so we ordered the Mole Oaxaca (Red Mole) which was excellent. A very complex taste with cinnamon and chile. Three tacos and the mole finished us. The service was friendly and prompt and I enjoyed sitting there because there was much to see. When we walked in it was a few minutes before noon. We were really surprised because there were about thirty high school students there mostly having sodas and tacos. Within ten minutes they all disappeared to go back to school. The restaurant was almost empty for a few minutes and then many Mexican Landscape Workers came for lunch. At one point there were over twenty people in line and the restaurant was full! This all in the space of fifteen minutes. They did not order tacos, but the daily specials, stews, soups, etc. They were friendly too and there was a great atmosphere. We were impressed by the taste of the food, the great selection, and all we saw. Ignore my other reviews for Mexican restaurants in the Encinitas/Leucadia area, this is our new favorite! We will try to be there about 11:40 again.
