Really disappointed because I actually tried to fix the issue before leaving. I ordered a California burrito with extra crispy fries, but was accidentally charged $2 for extra fries. At the drive-through window I specifically said I did not want extra fries, and the employee told me "it's okay," which made me think the order had been corrected. I got home and opened a burrito that was basically a tortilla stuffed with french fries and very little else. He likes the Super Breakfast Burrito. It's your choice of meat (he usually chooses bacon), eggs, request no beans, cheese and potatoes. At times it's been cheesy at other times skimped on. At the drive thru I find my self repeating myself. Not sure if it's me or the speaker system. My family has tried other things such as the quesadillas, chips and guacamole, hard shell taco (shredded beef and chicken), and the kids quesadilla. This places is open 24/7 which is great. My favorite spot for carne asada fries! Love the fact that it is drive thru! This time I ordered the combo plates and they were delicious. I def prefer the carnitas over carne asada. It also comes with 3 tortillas. I was able to make 3 tacos and still have half the box left to eat. The people are always super nice and friendly. I've been dying to try this place for several years as I always see it and pass it. I decided to go check it out today and was a little bit disappointed. My order was serpent, turf burrito, a bean and cheese burrito and chips with guacamole and cheese. I also got a large diet drink because when you're eating that much food, you don't want the extra calories of a soft drink. That's a joke. I thought the burrito was really good. It was the best I ever had no but I'm not gonna use that as the bar. It was definitely huge so from that perspective I say it's the largest burrito that I've had in the local area. I also ordered a bean and cheese burrito for my daughter and she told me that she thought it was good but not great the most disappointing part was the chips with guacamole and cheese. They literally threw a bunch of guacamole on chips and then threw melted cheese on them. It wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't charged $36 for lunch because I would say that was hardly worth the price. So overall, I give the food a 3 1/2 stars, the price, three stars, and the food amount five stars read more

I have been coming here for my Mexican food whenever I am in Encinitas for years! Their food and salsa is always my go-to on my lunch breaks. I usually have the pleasure of being greeted by the sweetest cashier, Aurora. She has a very kind disposition, makes sure I have everything I need, takes such good care of me, and she is the main reason I made it a point to write this review. I usually get their rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole and their orange salsa thats everything. The salsa is so good I usually ask for extra to take home. They are very generous with their regular tacos so I usually get extra tortillas to make them into two. Carne asada fries are great here as well. The meat was not overcooked and well seasoned, there was enough toppings, and the sauces you serve yourself were a nice complement. The portion size was huge enough to feed the 4 of us. Some reviews mentioned that the Guacamole and sauces are watery, and that is true. The hot red sauce also was not really that hot but still tasty. El Cotixan is our go-to when we need quick and easy food. Fast, tasty, has a drive-thru. Just kind of inconsistent. The same things seem to happen every 3 or 4 visits. Fish burrito sometimes is sort of thrown together and falls apart while eating. Sometimes the refried beans are cold. My biggest complaint is sometimes the cooks skip deep frying the rolled tacos and just serve them at room temperature. So disappointing. I've called about it a few times and was offered a replacement but could never take the time to drive back for that. I know Francisco or another manager will log onto Yelp and offer to "make it right" but I just want them to do it right the first time. There are easily a half dozen alternatives within a mile but I like Cotixan. They just need to get it right. read more

I went here because I was told the food was good. I ordered a 5 rolled taco plate I was charged 9 dollars for. I noticed the taste was not correct after eating 2 tacos, I thought it may have been the toppings or the packaged salsa.I still was not sure. I asked my husband to taste and my son. My son informed me it was the meat. I opened the taco and tasted a piece. It was awful, a taste I had never encountered prior. The tacos were also soft in the center, not cooked thouroughly. I walked into the restaurant to let them know they were serving bad meat. The counter clerk was polite, when one employee saw me he said oh oh. I told them they needed to taste what their serving to the public. I was offered a burrito, I asked them if the meat was safe to eat. After the incident I did not feel safe eating the burrito. I tossed it. I felt ill at the thought of having eaten what I did. I am only glad I did not get sick, and hopefully I will have no ill effects in the near future. I will never go back. read more

Although there are a few of these in the surroundings area, but I can comment on two I have visited. One is in Encinitas and another in Poway! The food is very good, and they serve substantial amount! Price is very fair that is during lunch time which were the two times I've been! It's just counter service at these locations. They have changed the way they give their salsa out. Instead of cups that you can dip your food and chips in, they give packaged salsa that is hard to open super inconvenient and no way to dip your food when eating in your vehicle. It was such a hassle to get the salsa open. Super hard to open and inconvenient. I might as well go to a Mexican Restaurants with no drive thru , walk in and do it myself so I can have cups to dip my food into. This is a lame system where I will not go back just because of the packaged salsas. I would suggest rethinking this process and go back to using cups and start using the larger ones like others, not the tiny little ones. Today was a disappointment. My mom loves Mexican food and this was right across the street from where my wife and my mom were doing their nails. I've been here before for a breakfast burrito and it wasn't that great and I swear I'd never go back here, but this is where my wife chose and I'm an obedient husband. We got the shrimp burrito from my wife and I and we shared that and it was hot and delicious and wonderful. Plenty of rice, which my wife loves. My mom, however, not so lucky, she ordered the Carne Asada plate. And let me describe the ambience of the place. It was fucking freezing! I had to go get a down jacket out of my car just to sit down and have a bite to eat, so that is the explanation I came up with when food was served and the Carne Asada plate. Everything was cold. Actually I only tested what my mom mentioned. Which was the rice and the beans and both were cold. I went up and asked for a replacement of the rice and beans and that took way too long. Minutes and minutes and minutes. Probably about four or five minutes and by that time, of course the Carne Asada of steak was cold. So it didn't help to get the beans and rice hot when the rest got cold. My mom's almost 90 and she hates cold food, but I hate cold food too. So I had a little bit of my mom's hot food and my shrimp burrito that was delicious. But then there was the rock, yes, there was a rock in the Carne Asada. It didn't break my tooth or anything, but I had to work its way out of my mouth and put it on the table and I tapped it a couple of times and couldn't believe it. A rock. So I took it to the guy that was behind the counter and I tapped it on the counter and I said this was in my Carne Asada. My teeth are fine, but you guys should be more careful. I don't know what to do about stuff like that. If there's a hair in your food or a rock in your Carne Asada. Really, what can you do about it except complain. So obviously probably not going to go back there. And would suggest that nobody go there. I am thinking that they were trying to save money on heat and that's why it was like a refrigerator in there, but if it was heated, the restaurant seating area was heated. Then possibly the food would've stayed warm as it made its way to the table. I don't know.But man, what a disappointment for my mom who doesn't get out much. read more
