Roberto Mexican Cafe is spot on Mexican cuisine. All the sauces and spices are exactly what you would experience South of the Border! They have many authentic dishes to choose from including many vegetarian options. I love the Carne Asada Burrito and a side of Refried Beans! Very filling and large enough to share. The price is affordable and worth every penny. You won't leave hungry, in fact you will leave extremely full! The little cafe reminds me of a quaint Mexican cafe in Mexico! Visiting Carlsbad is always special for our family. On this visit, for convenience sake, we ordered delivery from a new-to-us Mexican restaurant. All around a hit for our group. Loves the kids meal options and my husband enjoyed his surf and turf burrito. I devoured the carne asada nachos. Our boys shared the carne asada plate and it was a generous portion they were able to share with leftovers. Can't vouch for service since we had it delivered but will have to make a stop in at the actual establishment next time. read more

One of the better chorizo burritos I've had, it was very flavorful and it was a pleasant surprise. The spot is close to the beach and they have some seating inside and out. They were pretty quick in getting my food out and the staff were nice. read more

we walked here from the hotel a few mins walk... 3 min way..... not wanting to eat at pricey hotel again. David helped us and was amazing in his manor and kindness. This become a tourist trap? WAY overpriced and half the size of others. Pros: Burritos on the beach is easy, within walking distance. Food was OK, exact same you get at other mex restaurants. Cons: $17 for a burrito? Same price for sit down restaurant that give you sides. Half the size of places like Cotixan up the road. Chips and guac for $10 was like a single servicing of chips, with 8oz guac but it wasn't Hass, actually tasted like the frozen wholly guacamole product. Don't expect to eat inside on a winter evening, place barely has standing room only. LOTS of Mex restaurants in the area, try Kotija or Cotixan, both way better options. read more

I ordered the Chile Relleno burrito avocado. It comes with rice and enchilada sauce. I added avocado and refried beans. The chile relleno was cooked perfect with just the right amount of cheese. The avocado was fresh and added a nice contrast to the enchilada sauce l which was on parr! I can't vouch for their meats, as I didn't have any...but the chile relleno, moi! read more

Food was terrible. Extremely bland and oily. Adobada was mostly fat. Asked for flower tortillas but got corn. During payment the cashier Selena kept looking how much I was going to tip and that determined how she was going to treat me. She was extremely rude after. The salsas were good though. read more

Consistently good Mexican food. Order in or take out, Roberto's has been my go to whenever I want great, authentic Mexican food.

I'm going out on a limb and questioning whether this place is under new ownership or management as the size of my $20 (adding tax , tip, and sour cream) burrito is close to half the size it used to be. Easy to go a block up the street if this continues. Lame!! read more

I visited the Carlsbad state beach for a family picnic but forgot that I was supposed to pack food. I quickly went to Yelp and found this burrito joint open at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Lucky for me, it was not lunchtime, so the place was empty. I ordered a couple of breakfast burritos and California burritos to go. I saw that they had coffee on the menu and decided to order that too. It turns out they have a Keurig machine for coffee. The burritos were good even though we ate them after 2 hours as a beach picnic lunch. I will order again when I visit the beach and when it's my turn to pack the picnic lunch. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I have been jonesing for Mexican food since I have been out of the country for several weeks. Bland chicken, bland pico de gallo and bland guacamole. I asked and paid extra for pinto beans and got bland refried. Friends had crispy tacos that were dripping with grease. Their shredded beef and and chicken were also bland. I love Mexican food but this was just plain sad. Two taco plates and a burrito with 3 mineraguas was $60. The ladies working in the front and in the kitchen were nice. Rolled tacos always taste better in Southern California. The order of three was crunchy and topped with decent guac and cojita cheese and alot of lettuce. Eat these with a view of the ocean and you can't go wrong. We also had some good breakfast burritos for about $6 each. You can get the Mexican scramble and add whatever you want - in my case hash browns and also bacon in another person's. The fresh pico de gallo really made this burrito burst with flavor, plus the green sauce has alot of flavor when added on top. The front service girl in the AM was really sweet and the burrito's were a good start to the day. read more

This place is amazing!! We ordered dinner last Sunday. I was surprised how busy they were when we walked in and I am glad I decided to give them a shot. I have been ordering food around but this place is a winner. Delicious food, friendly staff, reasonable price and I do not understand how people are complaining about Robert's food being pricey I was reading the other reviews that people like to add stuff in their burritos but what are they expecting? getting for free?.. anyway, we will be back for more delicious food! I am trying to understand how this burrito was created. The thickest layer of clumped up cheese ever. Not very appetizing.
