Talk about a HIDDEN JEM. Right next to a gas station isn't usually someplace you find AWESOME food but this is one of those exceptions. Having set my Apple Maps before reading the description of the restaurant, my wife and I set our course on the way back from the San Diego Zoo. I didn't want to get home too late and the parking situation for the better restaurants near the zoo didn't look promising so we decided to go further away from San Diego to find a place on the way home near the 5 freeway. Cancun may not look like much but the food is pretty freaking amazing. My surf and turf burrito filled with generous amounts of shrimp and carne asada was incredible. Adding sour cream and guacamole just put it on another level. No burritos like this near my home. My wife's shrimp plate was also a winner. Lots of shrimp. My wife's only gripe was not enough rice and beans. Even the side of corn tortillas was moist and tasty. I'm not sure if they make their own tortillas but it seemed like it. Even the french fries are incredible. Nice and crispy but not dry. I thought I'd still be hungry after just the burrito but I had no idea what a monster it is. Even after eating 3/4 of it, the remainder was still heavy. The older lady working the register is so sweet. A little hard to understand since she has a thick accent but very nice and helpful. The cook was cool too. Very happy when I stopped before leaving to tell them the food was "delicioso". Don't let the gas station scare you away. The food is jammin'! I'm not sure why people in the reviews call this a hidden gem. I Definitely cannot relate. The food was mediocre at best. The fish tacos were really unimpressive... there was more breading than fish as you can see in my photo and they really didn't put much of the fish taco sauce on it. Over all, the food kind of lacked flavor especially from a Mexican spot. Updating my review to 5 stars since they have improved the dining room ambience and maintained their cute, dog friendly patio. Food still delicious and wildly consistent. Great tortillas. We recommend the "7 Mares" seafood stew. Generous. For the folks commenting on prices. Everything is expensive everywhere these days.. prices seem on par with the neighbors and area. I've heard great things about the Mexican joint connected to a gas station for ages, and finally got around to trying it. It's pretty good. Husband and my 2 year old enjoyed the rolled tacos. I ordered a chicken soup, which was flavorful and good. Sometimes the chicken in chicken soup can be dry, especially if they use the breast, but the chicken was tender, and there was lots of dark meat in the soup. The kids also had a quesadilla, which they loved, though it's hard to go wrong with a quesadilla. You can order a cheap-o wine for $3.50. The white zin was a bit off in color, but oh well, I wasn't too bent out of shape about it for $3.50. Maybe next time we'll pair our burrito with a Sutterhome cab instead, LOL. They have a great selection of salsas, including a mild, roasted red, spicy red, habanero mango, guacamole green, and medium green. Would be better if they had a salsa bar, instead of the tiny to-go cups. I did see a salsa bar that was empty, so maybe we were just there at the wrong time. read more

Worst Mexican food I've ever eaten Taco Bell is a 5 star Michelin rated restaurant compared to this place. The fish taco and fish burrito had a pound of nasty fried shell with a shriveled dried of fish stick in the middle literally a joke. Flavor was horrible, quality horrible, was not cheap. Nothing against Roberto's, which is just a taco's throw from here, but this place is 10 times better, easily. The burritos aren't massive here but they aren't small, either. However, the flavor of these babies is off the charts. The Surf and Turf burrito wasn't overflowing with shrimp but the carne asada inside was tender and delicious and the sautéed peppers were fantastic. You'll wish you ordered two of them. They probably offer 8 different hot sauces and they are all unique and good in their own way. Watch out: the hot ones can be very hot. I don't pray to the god of authenticity but most of the food here is very authentic. But mostly, it's just excellent. Seating inside and out, even though you're at a gas station/7-11.
