Talk about a HIDDEN JEM. Right next to a gas station isn't usually someplace you find AWESOME food but this is one of those exceptions. Having set my Apple Maps before reading the description of the restaurant, my wife and I set our course on the way back from the San Diego Zoo. I didn't want to get home too late and the parking situation for the better restaurants near the zoo didn't look promising so we decided to go further away from San Diego to find a place on the way home near the 5 freeway. Cancun may not look like much but the food is pretty freaking amazing. My surf and turf burrito filled with generous amounts of shrimp and carne asada was incredible. Adding sour cream and guacamole just put it on another level. No burritos like this near my home. My wife's shrimp plate was also a winner. Lots of shrimp. My wife's only gripe was not enough rice and beans. Even the side of corn tortillas was moist and tasty. I'm not sure if they make their own tortillas but it seemed like it. Even the french fries are incredible. Nice and crispy but not dry. I thought I'd still be hungry after just the burrito but I had no idea what a monster it is. Even after eating 3/4 of it, the remainder was still heavy. The older lady working the register is so sweet. A little hard to understand since she has a thick accent but very nice and helpful. The cook was cool too. Very happy when I stopped before leaving to tell them the food was "delicioso". Don't let the gas station scare you away. The food is jammin'! I plan on stopping by again when I attend Comic-con next year. read more

When we first moved to Carlsbad 10 years ago, I went on my search for Carnitas. My yelpers led me to Cancun. The picture of my Carnitas burrito comes up on the homepage of Yelp quite a bit, so today I thought let me go in order my burrito and show the beautiful family and friends that take care of me at Cancun. I walked in today and took my surprise. The entire family and friends were at a table eating lunch, so I showed them a picture on the front page of Yelp. I'm not sure why people in the reviews call this a hidden gem. I Definitely cannot relate. The food was mediocre at best. The fish tacos were really unimpressive... there was more breading than fish as you can see in my photo and they really didn't put much of the fish taco sauce on it. Over all, the food kind of lacked flavor especially from a Mexican spot. I'm really not looking forward to the smell of my husbands flatulence later... it seems the quality and enjoyment of the food was not worth the consequences that come along with it. read more

When we first moved to Leucadia, I tried the crispy shredded beef taco (even though their specialty is seafood) and I've yet to discover a better one in San Diego. Love the ceviche too. Latest visit was terrible. Not sure if the ownership changed. The tacos were super expensive $5.50 each and they are super tiny. The tortilla is basically cheap mass produced low quality machine made processed food. There was a tiny piece of meat in the taco, barely taste anything. Updating my review to 5 stars since they have improved the dining room ambience and maintained their cute, dog friendly patio. Food still delicious and wildly consistent. Great tortillas. We recommend the "7 Mares" seafood stew. Generous. For the folks commenting on prices. Everything is expensive everywhere these days.. prices seem on par with the neighbors and area. They could add like a small portion value menu for folks short on change. I do wish they would plant a nice big shade tree for the patio, because its hot out there mid day. read more

First of all, what a rude younger women behind the counter. She rolled her eyes and said "oh my f-ing gosh" under her breath as I simply asked for a little thing of salsa. I'll explain. I heated up my lunch at 711 because I work 12hr a day and pack my own food. 711 had no plastic knifes, so I come to Cancun Mexican for a knife and a little plastic ramekin of salsa. She had the audacity to try and sell me a $7 chips and salsa "deal" rather than let me pay for a small thing of salsa. I told her really? I can't have the plastic thing? "No we don't give those out" I know I said, I will buy it for a dollar. That's when she proceeds to get attitude and say stuff under her breath over a salsa (photographed). Horrible employee and not the best salsa to be honest. The ambiance in there did not meet my standards of a fun place to go, her disgusting attitude ruined the vibe. EDITED AFTER I POSTED!!! I've heard great things about the Mexican joint connected to a gas station for ages, and finally got around to trying it. It's pretty good. Husband and my 2 year old enjoyed the rolled tacos. I ordered a chicken soup, which was flavorful and good. Sometimes the chicken in chicken soup can be dry, especially if they use the breast, but the chicken was tender, and there was lots of dark meat in the soup. The kids also had a quesadilla, which they loved, though it's hard to go wrong with a quesadilla. You can order a cheap-o wine for $3.50. The white zin was a bit off in color, but oh well, I wasn't too bent out of shape about it for $3.50. Maybe next time we'll pair our burrito with a Sutterhome cab instead, LOL. They have a great selection of salsas, including a mild, roasted red, spicy red, habanero mango, guacamole green, and medium green. Would be better if they had a salsa bar, instead of the tiny to-go cups. I did see a salsa bar that was empty, so maybe we were just there at the wrong time. read more

Food is made fresh and is so amazingly delicious!!! My husband and I enjoyed the #21 fish plate as seen below. Comes with corn or flour tortillas which I recommend corn hands down. As for the kiddos Super nacho for one son and a carne asada fries for the other which both enjoyed so much. My hubby has tried several dishes and he says he is never disappointed. As for me, I'm one when I like something I am fixated on that when I come!!! I highly recommend this establishment and is great for eating here inside or outside patio or taking your food to the beach near by. Don't be fooled by the 7eleven next door this is not a hole in the wall establishment but is up to date, clean, and has a delicious food menu. Service is wonderful and friendly every time we come. Oh parking is ok but wish they had more parking but as long as you're not coming in a fleet of vehicles you should be good. I admit it ... I am a regular! I LOVE everything I have ever had here but my standing order is the Garlic Shrimp. I am particular about well cleaned Shrimp & have always been AMAZED. This dish can be eaten as a dinner itself, burritos or (my favorite) soft tacos. The mix of fresh vegs in simmering the extra large shrimp is delightful. I've had the Chile Relleno (which is my barometer for alllll things when searching for consistently delicious Mexican food. I LOVE their Beef rolled tacos & always ask they not be cooked too crispy. Love Cancun. It's never crazy busy - at least when I go. Since the pandemic they put up 2 cute and super clean areas to eat outside with AstroTurf and umbrellas. I've had a bunch of the entrees from chicken soup to enchiladas. All were great. The employees have always been super nice and accommodating. Make sure you check in on Yelp. The food here is okay, but the prices are high. 5 rolled tacos with just lettuce is $10 which is very expensive for the quality. At Roberto's up the street, the prices are high, but the food quality was better. The shredded beef in the rolled tacos is much more favorable at Roberto's. The rolled tacos here are much thinner, and the shredded beef inside lacked flavor. The service here was quick, and friendly. I feel they need to work on the quality of the rolled tacos, along with the prices. I really felt the quality was excellent, but the prices are very high. read more
