Lobster Lab is really just a question of how much you like lobster vs. how much you're willing to spend for a small meal. It's a difficult balancing act for most. I know that when I was younger, having lobster was relegated to only the most posh of circumstances, eating out when I was not paying as I couldn't afford it on my own. Because of that, it made lobster a special treat. Nowadays, while I have a good job and can readily cater to my family of four, I still have that little voice in the back of my head when it comes to getting something like this for myself. Is eating here worth it? Coming to Lobster Lab, I spent close to $30 for a small Lobster Roll, that was mostly bread, a can of Diet Coke, and a tub of drawn butter. It was fine, the bread was toasted and still very moist. The lobster meat was delicate, an ALMOST alright amount for the cost, that tasted fresh and melted well on the tongue. And the butter was clear, free of foam, but could have used a bit more salt. All in all, a pretty good Lobster Roll. Again, though ... it's that nagging question. Lobster Lab is probably the most expensive place to eat at in the Windmill Food Hall. This is especially true when you factor in how much you're getting on your plate. For half the price elsewhere at the Windmill, you can get a slightly larger Sushi Burrito, a container of Chinese Food, or a whole pizza. Is paying this much worth the cost simply because it's lobster? Ultimately, it's not the best Lobster Roll I've ever had, but it was pretty good; tainted by that high price tag. Still well made, still very good lobster without resorting to mincing the meat and mixing it into a salad, still very juicy with a tasty butter to dip it. I can't say that I'll ever come back here again, that cost vs. what you get was a bit much to take. But, I can still recommend others try Lobster Lab out if their looking for something tasty to try. read more

She was so sweet and gave great recommendations. She probably upsold me and honestly... no regrets because the food was fantastic. I ended up going with the XL Lobster Roll and Caviar. The lobster roll was creamy, tender, tangy, fresh, and delicious. She was absolutely right about splurging for the extra lobster. The bun was perfectly toasted--soft and buttery in the middle with crispy edges. 10/10. The caviar came on brioche with herbed cream cheese, shaved egg, and chives. SO good. I already love anything with caviar, but the flavor combo here made it feel extra special. 10/10. It's also located inside a fun food hall with tons of different food options. This was my third time coming. I got the lobster roll in an attempt to try Something new each time. It was pricey but as an occasional treat, worth it. Especially since they don't skimp on toppings. I got the regular and it was over flowing with shrimp. The larger with 6 oz would have been too much. I worry that the prices will scare most costumers away. Every time I went they had the shortest wait/lone of all the food spots in the food hall. Lowering the prices by a couple bucks might hurt profit per item but bring in more customers. It's in the windmill food hall so we just ordered at the counter and they gave us a buzzer while we waited at our table. It didn't take too long, maybe a little more than 5 minutes before our order was ready. I got the normal Lobster Roll ($28) with butter. The rolls were pretty big but they still stuffed a lot of lobster inside so it's not like the roll was mostly bread. They give you a slice of lemon to squeeze over it as well and topped it off with some greens. Everything was essential to this roll and the mix of flavors really worked with each other well. On the other hand, the crab grilled cheese was surprisingly delicious. The crab sauce or aioli used on the sandwich was flavorful and really elevated the dish. For some reason, we came here to eat even though we knew we'd be indulging in lobster rolls and chowders days later in Boston. I guess we wanted to pregame? I was initially underwhelmed, but in hindsight, the food was solid and comparable to what we eventually ate in Boston. Admittedly, the food was decent. That being said, I'm not sure the $10 upcharge for the XL roll was worth it when there was more bread than lobster. I initially balked at the prices, but they are comparable to what we paid for in Boston (though portions in SD were indeed a little skimpier). Now, for the real reason I won't be back: there was a Blue Lives Matter flag flying directly above us as we ate. I don't know whose idea it was to proudly fly the Blue Lives Matter flag, but rest assured, I will not be coming back to Windmill Food Hall-- I will post my obnoxious "libtard" screed to the official WFH Yelp page :).
