    Fish n chips

You're on the harbor, looking out at the harbor. 10/10 for location. The bowl of clam chowder comes in a paper cup which I didn't care for. The clam chowder itself is decent. Solid 7/10 for the chowder. Fish & chips is fried in avocado oil now, which is great. Still a lil too greasy but good nonetheless. Fries were a lil overcooked but decent. I would definitely come back again to try more of the menu. Solid 4/5. Great location. They also openly say you don't have to tip if you don't want to which I appreciate. Still tip ppl! I saw someone's burger order and it looked amazing. Will be back to try that burger!

Clam chowder - part of the Friday Sampler Plate. Coleslaw in the background.

Stopped for lunch and ordered the Friday special Sampler Plate. 1 piece of batter-fried fish and 2 pieces of batter-fried shrimp, French fries, a cup of clam chowder, and coleslaw. When I picked up my order, I was stunned by how huge the piece of fish was - hung over both sides of the 12" plate! The fish was juicy and tasty - 5, the shrimp were okay but nothing special - 3.5, clam chowder was good with enough clam pieces to satisfy me - 4, French fries were okay - 3, coleslaw was good - 4. The serve-yourself tartar sauce and cocktail sauces were disappointing - the cocktail sauce had an off putting flavor with no hint of horseradish taste; the tartar sauce was bland. But for $20, I thought the value was good, and I will return when I have an urge for fish and chips.

Counter service restaurant right on the water in the harbor. Probably the best fish and chips I've ever head!! Cole slaw was good as well. Had bottled beer available. Cocktail sauce had no horseradish in it that I could taste. It was more like ketchup and hot sauce I will definitely go back next time I'm in town!!

Captain's platter-2 pieces fish, 2 shrimp, and fries

I've had this restaurant bookmarked for about 15 years. Lack of parking can really deter me from visiting a place. Well, today I met my fish and chips connoisseur friends here. Parking wasn't that bad but it was a little walk. We all ordered the fish and chips. We had the Captain's special that came with 2 pieces fish, 2 shrimps, and fries. We had a nice seat outside by the water. The lady at the register was super friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. We all started eating. The first thing we all noticed was how greasy the fish(and shrimp) were. The fish was also pretty thin, not a nice chunk of cod like we are used to. The fish was very similar to a piece of tilapia. My husband and my friend had a hollow crust too as there was just batter and no fish on the ends. Overall, disappointing after waiting this long to try it.

It takes me a couple of tries to really review a place. After my 4th time back here I'm a fan, that's how you know this place values quality. The shrimp is fantastic and the fish just pairs well with the 3 sauces they let you try! The lovely people that run this place makes you believe this is home. (small tip, I ALWAYS get the small clam chowder on the side. Trust me it's worth it.)

Small Fish & Chips ($14) - The highlight was the batter, which was perfectly crispy. I wish it was a thicker cut of fish, but it was still so good and paired well with their tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I also appreciated how thick the fries were, but they could've had more seasoning.

This is are second time coming for lunch the food is great and you can sit inside or outside! The food is ordered at the counter and they call your number when ready! We both had Fish and chips but changed the chips to Onion rings!

Dont let the size fool you. Its mostly fried air.

Probably and easily the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Firstly, they only have cod for their fish and chips. If you know fish, you know thats the worst to have cause is not even fulfilling or meaty. Is a skinny strip covered with fried batter. The taste was horrible, I had to use extra salt and at least their fish sauce was good. I kept dipping the fish on it. Don't even get me started on the fries. Hard and slightly burnt. No flavor other than their avocado oil. Needless to say, I went to my room with a stomach ache that is lasting a little longer than I'd like. My escort had the fish tacos. Same, it look gigantic and he was so excited but it deflated as he took a bite. Same kind of deal a ton of fried batter and a skinny slice of cod. 50 bucks wasted. I don't recommend it at all. It was rather empty compared to the other spots and now I know why. Will not be coming back and I hope to forget the whole experience.

Awesome! Not often do I say that, for an order at the counter, fast food place. But Harbor Fish & Chips was awesome! And sitting out by the Harbor watching the boats come and go and the setting sun, amazing! Full disclosure, I'm not a big fish fan, unless it's shellfish, I don't like the fishy taste and everyone tells you, "this doesn't taste fishy" and it does. And this was the best fish I've ever had. It was so delicious melt in your mouth and literally no fish flavor at all. We had the Fish Taco, it's big, hanging out on both ends with their fried fish. 5/5 Shrimp, battered and a little spicy (not hot just flavor) flavor to it. 5/5 Fish and chips, so tender and yummy! 5/5 Comes with fries or Cole Slaw. Cocktail sauce, Tartar sauce and katchup plus other available condiments. I noticed they had hamburgers and chicken sandwiches available as well, but truly you should try the fish! Must try place in San Diego for fast food!

Fish, shrimp and chips. So crispy and good

OMG I'm still dreaming of the food from here. Made a stop on the way to San Diego and I wish I had not because I want more! Lol The harbor was busy and parking can be difficult to find. The guy working the counter was welcoming and friendly and took our order quickly. There are quite a few tables inside and outside as well. We got the sampler plate which comes with fish, shrimp, fries, clam chowder and coleslaw. This was the best fried fish I've ever had. The batter was crispy with good flavor it didn't even need the malt vinegar or tartar sauce. Best clam chowder I've had to date and coleslaw was so fresh and tasty. I would definitely drive out of my way to come back and eat here again!

SUCH BIG FISHHH!! I think one of the biggest fish i ever had but it was as very good! They have plenty of seating indoor and outdoor and there is nearby free parking. Vibes are right at the beach so perfect for fish and chips. Im also obsessed with the coldslaw.

There's just something about Harbor Fish & Chips that feels like a little reset button by the ocean I come here when I need a mental break--grab a warm, *so good* clam chowder bread bowl and take a walk with that perfect harbor view. It's simple, peaceful, and somehow always exactly what I need. It's quickly become one of those little hometown magic spots that just makes life feel softer (and tastier)

    Love this!
    Stephanie N.

Beautiful view of the water & the fact that they fry in avocado oil makes it already a 5 stars for me. Service was great & the fish was so good. Reading the old reviews, I must've been lucky because my fish pieces were very meaty.

Bottom: Sampler Platter (1 Fish, 2 Shrimp, Coleslaw, Fries & Chowder) Top: 2 pc Fish & Chips (an extra piece given of fish)

The view is great. Had fish and chips. Portion size is great, fish is deep fried so for me was a touch on the greasy side. Coleslaw is good.

She was right! I got the Stratford Scramble and a mocha latte with oat milk. The scramble was a HUGE portion and delicious. Did it completely wow me? No, but I definitely enjoyed it! The mocha latte was SO good. Nuzz got the Chilaquiles Jalisco and his first ever nitro cold brew. He loved both! The chilaquiles weren't too spicy, and he said the nitro was different from any cold brew he's had before and almost creamy. But the COFFEE CAKE!! When they asked if we wanted toast or coffee cake, we both chose coffee cake and thank goodness we did Soft, sweet, icing drizzled on top and SO good. That is something I would 100% come back for! Beautiful location, friendly service, good breakfast and great coffee. Such a relaxing way to start the morning. We'd definitely come back! And next time, coffee cake again. No question.

The fountain drinks, coffee, and tea are self-serve, which makes everything simple and convenient. Our visit was great! I ordered the chilaquiles, and they were delicious--flavorful but not spicy. My kids ordered chicken and fries, while my daughter got a hamburger, which she really enjoyed. Another thing I liked is that since you pay when you order, once you're finished eating, you can simply leave without having to wait for the check. I also want to give a special thank you to Tiffany, the manager. I accidentally forgot my wallet, and thankfully someone turned it in. Tiffany was extremely helpful and made sure I was able to get it back. I truly appreciate her and the staff at Stratford! Overall, I'm very pleased with the location, the food, and especially the customer service. My family and I will definitely be going back!!

I chose outside in the shade and it was quiet, relaxed, and really comfortable. I ordered the Dirty Bird and it was SO good. The chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside, not oily or dry. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, the fries were nicely seasoned, and it was a good amount of food. They happily put my pickles and hot honey on the side too. I asked for ginger ale and they offered ginger beer instead, which was a pleasant little surprise! The menu has a ton to choose from. The outdoor seating has an amazing view of the Oceanside beach and pier. The indoor seating is an open air concept with their coffee bar and bakery at the front and a closed kitchen in the back. The weight staff was very professional and courteous. Ours was especially attentive and took the time to tell us what some of the more popular dishes are at breakfast time. The food was delicious. Their coffee was delicious! I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, and they were moist and surprisingly, very citrusy and slightly tart which was balanced with a few dollops of lemon curd that was on the plate. I also ordered a coffee cake, which I did not end up eating however, when I had it as a midnight snack later, it was delicious. It was so buttery, especially on top where the crumble was. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. My daughter ordered the Hawaiian style fried rice. We were pleasantly surprised that the spam on the plate is homemade spam and not the kind you get from the can. It definitely tasted a lot better than the kind you get from the can. Sidenote: I am a fan of the one you get on the can, however! The fried rice was fried with kimchi, pineapple, green onion, and toasted sesame oil. The plate came with a thin omelette on top. The portions are good, and if you are not too hungry, you can definitely share them. This place is also dog friendly, which I found to be great since I am the owner of a rat terrier. There were plenty of other customers with their furry friends chilling at their feet. In fact, the restaurant offers a pet menu with options like unsalted hamburger or unsalted and grilled chicken thigh. I am definitely going to go back when I'm in the area.
