I love Dalu Hawaiian BBQ! I typically do takeout and it never disappoints. The customer service here is pretty good. The two young ladies at the front are always so nice, helpful, and welcoming! My go-to order is usually the Orange Tofu and/or Pineapple Tofu, the Spam Musubi (got 2 this time!), with a side of rice, veggies, and macaroni salad. The veggies always taste so fresh and their macaroni salad is so creamy and smooth! The tofu has so much flavor you won't even realize it's tofu! The Spam Musubi is always so fresh and has the perfect glaze. 10/10 food and service! The environment is usually clean, which adds a positive experience for customers. We were excited to try this place because the menu looked great and we love Hawaiian food. Overall, it was disappointing experience, and it didn't quite live up to our expectations. Located in a Ralph's shopping center in Oceanside, right off the 76. Plenty of parking in the shopping plaza. The outdoor windows are covered with menu items, so that was interesting to see as I walked up. The inside decor is nice with colorful lights, nice photos on the walls, clean, and modern looking. The staff was friendly and my to go order was ready and waiting. They made sure what utensils and sauces were needed and got me out the door pretty quickly. I tried the mini plate of pineapple chicken, rice, macaroni salad. It was exactly what I was wanting and expecting, it hit the spot. Tasty and warm. Found the location through Yelp and wasn't too far from the hotel so I made the trek. Checked out the menu which was very similar to most Hawaiian type places. They had one dish called Pineapple Chicken which I have not seen before at a Hawaiian place so I asked the guy working the register. He wasn't sure so he asked the cook but he did not know how to describe it so the guy pulled out a book with photos to show me what it looked like. It basically looked like sweet and sour chicken. I went with the mini teriyaki beef plate. It was a lot of food considering it was a mini plate. The beef was tender and they give you some extra sauce which was pretty good. I was excited to support a local, new business who recently opened up. I really wanted it to be good. I really enjoy Hawaiian/ Japanese food. I enjoy all of the restaurant options in the Old Grove shopping center. In my opinion, the food and service at Dalu is seriously lacking. The service was not friendly, nor accommodating, despite the owner, Luis, claiming on this page that they have pride in their warm, welcoming Aloha spirit. Imo, the mac salad lacked flavor, the Chicken Katsu was not tender and the mixed plate with the ribs was stringy and grisly. On top of that, I bought (2) $50 vouchers from KUSI Be Your Guest, which should have given us $100 worth of food, but because the cashier, the manager and the owner, didn't understand how it worked or chose to not honor the original agreement they made when they agreed to do the vouchers, I essentially did not receive 50% off, but rather I just pre-paid for my food. I tried to explain this to both the cashier and the manager, meanwhile through all this, my food is just sitting there and getting cold. Both in-store employees did not understand what I was trying to say and they had me call the owner. The owner said that I had only paid $12.50 for each voucher, which simply was not true. At first, she was going to have me screenshot the vouchers that I have read from, but then, changed her mind. She had the employee read me the voucher instructions, which was such a waste of time because it didn't address my issue. She told me to complain to the place where I bought the vouchers. I felt that because this business handled my situation so poorly, I will only choose businesses who appreciate my business and agree to honor the agreements they make with a third party. read more

The last couple visits were so diffrent from our first visit. While the food tastes amazing, we were highly disappointed the last two times we were here. Both times we dined in and both times our food came out cold. We waited for a while before they brought out our food so we assumed they were making it fresh. My husband and I shared the Katsu mixed plate. The food was not hot at all. The katsu was not Krispy. The meat and rice were warm. I thought the food was made to order. It seems as if they kept it under a warming light. We will give it one last try. read more

This is a great place for Hawaiian fare. We had the Chicken Katsu Curry and Teriyaki Beef Bowl. Both my husband and I were very happy with our meal. My meal, the teriyaki bowl, arrived on a plate though the name says "bowl". It threw me for a moment as I thought I ordered the wrong thing. Topped with green onion and sesame seeds. Yes, please! It's not always a topping I see on this type of meal at other places. I was excited to have my teriyaki bowl include a good portion of vegetables. (Other places will only have a broccoli head and a couple of carrot slices in theirs.) Not a piece of food was left on that plate. I definitely enjoyed it from start to finish. My husband wanted to try their version of katsu curry. He enjoyed his meal as well. Only thing he'd like to have added would be potatoes and carrots. It didn't diminish from the experience. We were visiting california and driving back towards San Diego when the kids and I got hungry and decided to stop by for food literally 30 minutes before closing because we wouldn't have made it back to San Diego in time for any place to still be open. Even with us coming in 30 minutes before closing they were so friendly, welcoming and accommodating . Let me preface this by saying I'll give 4 stars. Because its overall rating is so high and my favorite Hawaiian bbqs overall rating is so low so maybe I'm not the best judge here. But I will explain. We came here on a whim after going to Lowe's. Thought it would be great to find a good Hawaiian bbq place near home as my favorite is near the mall and I really don't care for the other place nearby here. My husband got the mix plate but he has to go to work so no review on that yet. I got the katsu chicken and we also got the lumpia and spam masubi. The lumpia was really good. I liked that a lot. The spam masubi was also good however kinda a rip off as one order comes with one piece for $4.50 but at my preferred place it's 2 pieces for $5.50 as one order. I'd much rather pay 5.50 for is both to have one vs 9. Also my katsu was missing the katsu. As far as I know chicken katsu is for the katsu sauce? Unless the sauce we received was supposed to be katsu? The very watery soy sauce tasting sauce? I've had katsu at many places and even curry and Japanese style and I can't believe that would be what they're passing off as katsu sauce but another reviewer said it was watery. My husband did NOT think what we received was katsu but instead a teriyaki sauce. A very liquidy one. The Mac salad was a bit bland and not very creamy. Again maybe watery? Hoping that means it's lower in calories than what we're used to but no way to tell. The chicken itself was ok. It had a few inedible pieces. I don't go to many Hawaiian bbq places except my favorite because most other places have a lot of tendons, fat, questionable pieces in the meat and unfortunately that's what I got here. This place is really hidden away in a shopping plaza away from the beach. I was amazed finding Lau Lau on their menu. It's not easy to find a place with other foods besides the popular or typical Hawaiian food favorites. I ordered Lau Lau, lumpia, Hawaiian Sun drink & luau BBQ chips. Hawaiian food is a strange thing. Mainlanders think it's all Luau's and pineapples, but as a Filipino with family roots in Hawaii it's actually surprising how much of a cultural mix that makes up Hawaiian food. Portuguese, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc. Recently Poke has taken over the Island food scene, but what we see here, I call "chipoke". I recently took a job nearby and i'm eating here weekly. As i work thru the menu I'm moved by a few thoughts: They have Saimin, it seems like a cross between Teri Cafe and L&L, portions don't leave me quite filled. Service is excellent, decor is clean and vibrant, prices are good, portions could be bigger. I generally like to feel heavier when I eat here. lol Spam & eggs I would have liked another slice of spam. Longanisa I'd have actually liked a little more of the grease on my rice, but that's just how I eat it at home. Eggs were a hair overcooked (over easy). Portuguese sausage was perfect. I like their teriyaki bowls, but think the sauce could be bolder, smokier, thicker, sweeter. Veggies were crisp. The ahi poke bowl feels more bibimbap than Chipoke. I'd wished the garlic shrimp was more garlicy. Saimin was a little thin, but still good. The mac salad I wish was thicker. Katsu mix I wish was crispier, the beef on the Aloha mix was stringy. I wish the musubi was a little more densely packed on the rice and the sauce was thin. I wasn't a fan of the wraps, I never saw a wrap anywhere on Hawaii. I'm looking forward to their burger and Loco Moco, but based on the differences between their photos and what I've eaten they still should be good. What is that all about?! Do you ask your cashier at McDonald's what's in a Quarter Pounder with Cheese? Rant over... This place is awesome! The service was super friendly. We got the spam musubi, teriyaki beef bowl and Loco Moco Mini plate. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. Plus, the portions were ample! Definitely worth the money. My friend couldn't even finish her bowl! In closing, they may have had some growing pains when they first opened but they definitely worked out the kinks. Brand new spot alert! This Hawaiian place just opened near my house (between Burn Body Boot Camp, Love Boat Sushi, and Graziano's Pizza) and it's such a gem. The inside is fresh, clean, and beachy, and the team couldn't be friendlier. For their soft opening we tried the katsu plate, the Korean BBQ chicken, and a kids' cheeseburger + fries, big portions, great flavor, and the mac salad was chef's kiss. (Because honestly... if a Hawaiian place doesn't nail the mac salad, what are we even doing? ) Plates run about $17-20, kids meals around $10, and it's so worth it. The bulgogi fries was good! However, the meat was not cut so it was hard to eat as the meat and fries ratio would be off. I am lazy so didnt like that I had to cut my meat to eat The mac salad was interesting - it had snow peas and it wasnt as creamy as our preference is. I just came from the soft opening of Dalu Hawaiin BBQ and they are definitely a great addition to the Oceanside dining scene. Dalu Hawaiin BBQ is located on Old Grove Road in a shopping center that has a few hidden food gems in its corner. They took over the old location of Pick-Up-Stix and they are bringing a fusion of Hawaiian, Korean and Japanese flavors to the Oceanside community. Their interior is spacious, with plenty of seating for groups and families. There are also very beautiful photos hanging on the walls depicting the Hawaiian lifestyle. Service was excellent and friendly and I can tell that some of the employees were nervous being their first time. I ordered their lava wings, Loco Moko, and a mixed platter that featured their famous garlic shrimp, teriyaki beef, and Korean fried chicken. The lava shrimp started with a heat level of one and slow slowly built up to four out of 10. It was delicious flavor profile of savory hot flavors I also appreciated that the chicken was cooked through completely, and was still moist on the inside. Their local Moko was legit and was true to the flavors of this traditional dish. I also loved the teriyaki beef with its sweet overtones and the Korean fried chicken had an addictive, savory quality to it. But I really love their garlic shrimp and that they would place the garlic butter on the white rice to add flavor. I really loved my experience here, and if anything, the only disappointment was to their Horchata drink; which was not true to the traditional style. Highlights: food, delicious, hot, and fresh! Very on point with authentic local island flavors. You get a nice portion of food (we had plenty left overs for a hearty snack). Clean, bright, and very relaxing seating indoors. They have a small shared courtyard for outside dining too. The people who work there are great! Have eaten here when it was just opened and it was delicious. However when I ate there Saturday it was awful. The katsu chicken pieces were too thick and unevenly fried and there was very little sauce. The macaroni salad had too much mayonnaise with little other flavor. The food here is good. Probably 4/5 for fast food standards. I've gotten take out twice since they opened. However, I am giving them 2 star because my order has been wrong twice. It also takes much longer to get your order than the time they quote you (even if you order ahead of time). I ordered veggie lumpia and when I got home, it was actually pork. I couldn't eat it and had to toss it. I also ordered Malasadas with Nutella and when I got home, it was actually regular Malasadas. Very disappointed. The restaurant is clean and has nice ambiance though. For how much they charge, they could at least get the orders right. read more
