I decided to stop by Los Tacos in Encinitas after reading all the great reviews about this specific location! The parking lot has plentiful parking but was completely full as I was leaving around 12pm. There were tons of order pick-up spots and 20-minute max parking spots that help with the flow. The restaurant was impeccably clean with a growing line of lunch-goers. The workers were very efficient and the line moved quickly. I also noticed the apparent owner/manager talking to regulars and greeting customers as they walked in, which I really liked to see! I was served my order to-go in less than 10 minutes and ended up unexpectedly using the other 10 minutes after taking my first bite--after that it was hard to stop. The burrito was the perfect size (not too large and not too small). My original breakfast burrito was wrapped in a fresh hand-made tortilla filled with fluffy eggs, the perfect amount of bacon, cheese, soft fresh potatoes, topped with the avocado salsa verde which went perfectly with everything. I even ended up sipping the salsa (it was that good) between bites of the burrito. I was also blown away by the clean and fully stocked salsa bar. So many options (including non-spicy ones for those with gastric limitations too!) and they even offered radishes, carrots, and pickled onions individually wrapped with care. Everything tasted fresh and home-made. After 7 years being away from San Diego, Los Tacos delivered exactly what I had been missing. I was a little surprised at the prices which were a little more than I am used to, but they do pack in a lot of filling for each taco. My visit was also around dinner time so the cashier did tell us that there would be a 15min+ wait. Once we did get our food, I could tell the quality was very good and like I mentioned, it was piled high. This was my first time here and I got a California burrito and added guac and extra cheese. The burrito was massive, and not in a great way. I couldn't hold the burrito without it falling apart which made it hard to eat. And there was barely any guac or cheese in there, which I paid over $3 extra for. I was recently visiting a Yelp Elite events at Mochichis (go...you'll definitely enjoy!), and while chatting with the owner, she mentioned that the tacos next door are the best in Encinitas. I was JUST thinking about street tacos, and this definitely caught my interest. After finishing our chat, I walked next door and took a look. Definitely more of a dive joint, but it was clear that the two people making tacos and burritos knew their way around the grill. I HAD to give it a shot, so ordered a combo plate - two pollo tacos, one carne asada taco, with beans. They were selling Mexican Coke (so pure sugar water), but I asked if they had Diet Coke - they said no, only Diet Pepsi - a HUGE score in their favor. Another huge score - real habanero salsa for the street tacos! I was served in less than five minutes - and these street tacos are as good as the ones you get in Ensenada - perfectly cooked meat, and a HUGE dose of guac on each one. Devine, truly. On my next visit I tried the Genghis Khan burrito because a coworker recommended it, but the chorizo overwhelmed all the other ingredients. 2.5 stars. My most recent purchase was the Dos Amores. Everything here is just a clear cut above the competition. Quality control is tight (a family run restaurant), service is warm and welcoming, and the food. My goodness, the food. Homemade corn tortillas, hecho a mano. Made from scratch salsas that are so fresh and full of color and flavor. An ambitious menu with a huge variety of proteins. Enormous burritos bolstered by impeccably prepared beans and rice. Fresh fish prepared Baja style or grilled. Carne asada made with premium steak. Rotisserie al pastor charred and topped fresh pineapple straight from heaven. To top it off, the prices are extremely reasonable. read more

The burrito is called the "Original" and costs $11.55 plus tax. The burrito was of good size. It offered more in girth than is length. The burrito tasted great, and the flour tortillas tasted great. I liked the potatoes in the burrito, but I would have liked it. There were fewer of them and chopped into smaller pieces. They took away some of the bacon's flavor and texture or just put more bacon in the burrito. At any rate, the burrito was delicious and was good eating with the red hot salsa and the avocado salsa. The service was super friendly. The you lady at the counter was very cool and is a fan of "Joy Division," Imagine that! I get it It's Cinco de Mayo so of course all of the Mexican restaurants are probably busy. I ordered beef rolled tacos along with family order. Husband waited 15 min and when he got them they told him "we ran out of shredded beef so we gave you chicken." They prob should have told him before. And that would have been fine except when I went to eat then it was like a chicken breast cut into strips - the most gringo rolled tacos ever. I went to this location happy to see the sign saying lost tacos I went and ordered three tacos El Paso . I ordered the rice and beans with three of the tacos. I went to the salsa bar they had no salsa they had two of them one was green and one was red both of them are way too hot for my tacos the beans look like canned beans Tasted like canned beans the rice was uneventful I ordered a kids burrito it was huge it was the size of as wide as a fist and bean and cheese burrito with the same beans in the inside I've never been to a location where you don't have Salsa maid I said are you getting out some of this the Verde sauce and she said we don't have any I said oh OK I did like the fact that they had limes and everything bagged in the little baggies for you to take to go but I was so disappointed the El Paso was good I was so disappointed that I didn't have the salsa I needed and the beans and rice were terrible. Their fried shrimp was lacking seasoning and the batter was too heavy on it. Fish taco was decent but nothing special to brag about. The lengua was okay, tiny portions, prefer elsewhere for my lengua tacos. Asada was okay as well. Salsa bar or lack of one required you to ask the staff for salsa for your tacos. Would I go out of my way to drive here to eat their tacos? Nope. The person that I typically trust for 2nd opinions for places to eat has sadly disappointed me on this place.
