Carnitas, grilled fish, lengua & birria tacos

I pretty much stumbled upon Los Tacos, as I was at a place next door and saw many people going in/out. It seemed like a popular place since quite a few regulars came by to pick up tacos. Plus it smelled amazing and they were making fresh tortillas in-house. I would say they have a good menu that had all the usual meats and then some. I was a little surprised at the prices which were a little more than I am used to, but they do pack in a lot of filling for each taco. My visit was also around dinner time so the cashier did tell us that there would be a 15min+ wait. Once we did get our food, I could tell the quality was very good and like I mentioned, it was piled high. They also had a nice self-serve bar for limes, salsas, etc. great spot to satisfy your taco cravings!

This was my first time here and I got a California burrito and added guac and extra cheese. The burrito was massive, and not in a great way. I couldn't hold the burrito without it falling apart which made it hard to eat. And there was barely any guac or cheese in there, which I paid over $3 extra for. The carne was good but the fries were extra crispy which I didn't love in a burrito. If I do go back, i'll try a taco instead of burrito next time.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I'm usually very hesitant to try Mexican food place the further you are from the border. But according to my kid, it was the BEST CARNE ASADA TACO EVER. I've actually have never seen him eat a taco so fast ever. Nestled in La Costa, this place is a nice touch to the community. I would say it's a notch up from being just any taco shop. The open air bar seating adds a nice touch, with plenty of table seating inside and outside. Giving you an area to "dine out" My spicy surf and turf burrito was MASSIVE and delicious. I can attest to the carne asada my kiddo was referring to earlier. My husband had a healthy size chorizo breakfast burrito that he also loved. There's a nice range of salsas to choose from at the salsa bar. TBH, none of them were my favorite but the salsa Fresca still gets the job done. I didn't realize how new this place was. Only open for a few months but the staff were all super friendly and accommodating. Came by to see if we needed anything/boxes and cleared our finished plates. Great place for Mexican food in North County!

We tried the California burrito, garlic shrimp taco, and the battered fish taco. All of it was amazing! The order was exactly to our specification. I ordered no chipotle sauce, but after trying it, I realized it wasn't very spicy and actually very delicious. Highly recommend the chipotle sauce for extra flavor! The restaurant is clean, modern, and has great customer service.

    Carnitas Taco.... Yes!!!

I have been looking for the perfect Carnitas taco since we got back to California and today... I think I found it. Los tacos is a small shop buried in a strip mall but when you see all the construction workers lining up to go in, you know you found authentic Mexican food. Service was quick parking was easy and the food inexpensive and absolutely delicious, they even understood when I said crispy Carnitas they were perfect my new go to spot.

AUTHENTIC pollo y carne asada street tacos!!!!

I was recently visiting a Yelp Elite events at Mochichis (go...you'll definitely enjoy!), and while chatting with the owner, she mentioned that the tacos next door are the best in Encinitas. I was JUST thinking about street tacos, and this definitely caught my interest. After finishing our chat, I walked next door and took a look. Definitely more of a dive joint, but it was clear that the two people making tacos and burritos knew their way around the grill. I HAD to give it a shot, so ordered a combo plate - two pollo tacos, one carne asada taco, with beans. They were selling Mexican Coke (so pure sugar water), but I asked if they had Diet Coke - they said no, only Diet Pepsi - a HUGE score in their favor. Another huge score - real habanero salsa for the street tacos! I was served in less than five minutes - and these street tacos are as good as the ones you get in Ensenada - perfectly cooked meat, and a HUGE dose of guac on each one. Devine, truly. I'm hooked, and will be back for more.

I enjoyed a good bacon and eggs breakfast burrito at this Encinita's local favorite. The burrito came with bacon, regular potatoes, eggs, and cheese. The burrito is called the "Original" and costs $11.55 plus tax. The burrito was of good size. It offered more in girth than is length. The burrito tasted great, and the flour tortillas tasted great. I liked the potatoes in the burrito, but I would have liked it. There were fewer of them and chopped into smaller pieces. They took away some of the bacon's flavor and texture or just put more bacon in the burrito. At any rate, the burrito was delicious and was good eating with the red hot salsa and the avocado salsa. The service was super friendly. The you lady at the counter was very cool and is a fan of "Joy Division," Imagine that! They only offer inside seating, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Is the kids burrito and that's a copy of the rice and beans

Why not upgrade some of the aging furniture, design, infrastructure? oh well, just a name change. Why not take the chance to make changes since ownership was staying the same? Some of those items were stale and new r&d items could be added, but maybe too much change would drive customers away. To update my old Rico review I started coming here 20+ years ago and since that review is 15 years old I have changed my mind on the Justin burrito. Why was I eating 4 different types of carbs? Why even have lettuce? Also why no sour cream since were throwing everything in the kitchen sink in there (sans meat). The justin burrito is like seeing a fat vegetarian, sorry not sorry. I think I was just eating becuase I was bored and hungry and had a fast metabolism, always eating beyond satisfied. I'd much rather eat perfect bites to a satisfying amount rather than overindulge on chasing balance. I still haven't met Justin, but my fear is after all these decades of eating these massive burritos maybe he's no longer around. The decor is mostly the same, the menu is mostly the same, the staff, etc. etc. Prices have gone up and to me more than the times. 20% on the Justin and 30+% on breakfast burritos. How is the Calidilla (quesadilla wrapped CAB) $17? i'm fairly certain the quesadilla portion isn't equal to an equivalent price increase versus the standard $7 cheese quesadilla becuase I weighed a CAB and quesadilla and the Calidilla and 1+1 does not equal 2 and the price difference isn't proportional Something that I did notice is that my usual favorite California burrito has waned. I don't think anything specifically has changed, but probably my level of love for it. I found the fries to be a little less crispy, the meat a little greasier, tortilla a litte dryer, hot sauce a little milder. The nostalgia is hard to recreate and even harder to explain to others, but alot of things were amazing just becuase I was in my early 20's. I still feel like it's not a taco shop or an ertos. I call them Mexican fast food leaning more towards a restaurant now. $13 breakfast burritos is wild.

We ordered the carne asada and shrimp rancheros plates that came with rice, beans and a flour tortilla. Also two burritos, cabeza and fish. And a coconut flan for dessert. Pros: Convenient location Food came out very quick Great customer service Coconut flan was absolutely delicious The shrimp rancheros were also delicious, very well seasoned & cooked perfectly. Cons: The burritos were much smaller, not as filled as other burritos from other Mexican restaurants. The carne asada was over cooked and dry There was only 2 pieces of fish in the fish burrito that were so over fried that it was hard and inedible. We had high hopes for this place, but our first impression fell flat. Not sure if it would be worth it to try and go again.

I grabbed an Uber after work on a Thursday and headed north 11 miles. As I arrived at the Fish Shop, I could smell the goodness inside and saw the line waiting to order. The restaurant is on one side, with an open bar on the other. Ordering is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Pick your fish, pick how you want to consume it (plate, sandwich, salad), and pick your sides and drink. I went with my work colleagues recommendation of a blackened sea bass sandwich with onion rings and a Marg. That choice was FANTASTIC!!! You seat yourself once you order and place the buzzer given to you by the counter person on the unit on your table. Although busy, there were still tables available (bar and restaurant, plus out front). As the NBA playoffs were on, I sat inside. Everyone working here was friendly and as I already stated... my meal was the best I had on this San Diego visit. A bonus was a gorgeous sunset just 3 blocks down from the shop. There was only about 7 people in front of me when I got in line including a family. There was an older couple ordering and it took about 20 minutes for them to complete their transaction. The rest of the line moved ok after they were done, but I probably waited about 40 minutes just to order. I ordered 3 of each kind, a dozen. Then I went to get water. They were out of ice. I sat in the window seating and waited. It took a bit, but it was a nice day so I didn't mind too much. A girl came out calling names but it was very difficult to hear her. I finally heard my name and she dropped off my oysters. I asked for more cocktail sauce and she left to get it. She brought it back but immediately left and never told me which oysters were which. I had to flag down another employee and he told me which oysters were which. In the past, I haven't liked some of the choices, but this time they had a whole different selection and I liked all of them! They were so good and fresh. I don't know why I waited so long to return. The food was very mediocre, especially given the high prices. The guacamole was outright gross and we only ate about half of it, which is unusual for us as a guac-loving family. It tasted like poor quality avocados were used; it had that weird rotten fruit taste that low quality avocado variants often have. The beef taco was good with a nice portion. The fish tacos had a nice flavor, but there was barely any fish in them and one of my tacos had a bone that hurt my tooth. The potato taco was flavorless and definitely the worst of the tacos. My husband said his California burrito was 4/5 and my kids seemed to like their kids meals (though I ordered the quesadilla only for each of them and was given the more expensive plate with rice and beans, which they don't like, so I was charged for food I didn't order and didn't want...).
